Hubby HATES when I book things for him without him knowing until the day of. The reasoning behind it is that it doesn't give him enough time to make up excuses as to why we can't have a pampering day together. "I don't need it", "It's too much money," "You can do that without me", etc the list goes on. I knew he needed a massage badly, and I really haven't gotten a facial in well over a year, so I booked us a Groupon and we were off on a Saturday morning for our pampering day! We were greeted by Carmen, who manages the appointments for the day. We were taken to a waiting room downstairs, as we were the first appointment of the morning. My hubby was taken first, and then I was taken into the facial room. What awaited me was an hour of real bliss. Facials, according to me, are all about the extractions, and I was really pleased that I didn't have a crap ton to have taken care of. However, my facialist, really amped up my skin! She was incredibly gentle and explained to me the overall health and condition of my face, which I really appreciated in knowing and learning. She did a treatment to remove some of the excess dead skin cells, and the creams throughout were really aromatic. I met with my hubby afterwards, and he said he was broken apart and put back together again. I guess he needed it afterall. read more

I have been to hundreds of massage spa's in my life, but I have never experienced what I did in this place. I will keep it short. First and foremost, the woman wore gloves to give me the massage. Gloves????? Are you kidding me. Her massage was worse than anything I have ever experienced before. I felt like she was petting me. No pressure at all. I hate to be rude to people, so I waited for it to be over so that I could leave. As I'm leaving, I witnessed the owner/ manager ( I believe his name is Bruno) defending his place to another customer. He was rude. I should have spoken to him, but I decided to leave. I will never go back to this place again. The woman who I believe was Russian, should be fired. I left more stressed than I did when I got there. Came here for the first time for massage and facial deal I bought on Groupon. My experience was absolutely incredible!!! From meeting Bruno, the owner, while checking in, who was so friendly and pleasant to the actual treatment, everything was superb. My massage and facial was done by Lia. She has hands of gold and used high quality products. Until going to Lia for a facial I didn't think it was possible to have a pleasant and relaxing facial but she certainly changed my perspective. I have received several massages and a facial. The services have been great. Four stars for the staff providing services. However, the customer service is lacking. Firstly, I had to leave three messages to confirm an appointment. My first message was very detailed and concise so I just needed one message to confirm. Also, I did not like the tone of the individuals leaving me messages. They gave me an attitude when returning my calls when they did not need to call me in the first place. Additionally, I have called during business hours and I had to leave messages because no one picked up. Secondly, I was to receive a blowout and although there were stylists on site, I left without it because the woman scheduled to give me the blowout had an emergency. I asked why another stylist could not provide the blowout and the receptionist told me that it was the owners prerogative to only assign specific stylists to provide this service. I hope that this treatment is not because I am a Groupon customer (do Groupon customers deserve subpar service?). Usually when a customer does not receive a service, the establishment provides a complimentary product or service as an apology, but I received neither. Thirdly, I wanted to communicate with the owner before writing and posting this review so I decided to write to him by email via the website. The website was not working. Three strikes and you are out. I can go back and receive my blowout, but I am not sure I want to. Bought a Groupon for this place because it was in a convenient location. The groupon was for a Swedish Massage and a Seaweed Facial. Made an appointment with a very polite and helpful receptionist. When I arrived the parking is street parking but really decent for Brooklyn. Some parts of Bay Ridge are just impossible but I got a spot right across the street right away. When I entered the Spa I was greeted by the receptionist and was taken right away to the lower level where their spa rooms are. First impression everything was very nice and clean. Looked very high end. The massage room itself smelled clean and fresh. I was very pleased. I'm very picky about my massage because I'm very sensitive so I'm always a little apprehensive when going to a new masseuse. Shirley though was great! The massage was so nice. The right amount of pressure and it felt like it went on forever. Shirley also did my facial which was great. All the towels she used on me smelled of lavender. She was very meticulous when it came to cleaning all the gunk in my pores. When I left I was in a little bit of a rush but Bruno himself was there and he knew my name and asked how everything was etc. It was really nice. And bonus! They did not try to sell me anything. All the other spas have always tried to sell me a bunch of stuff and I hate it. Without the groupon their prices are still pretty decent especially for the quality. And they do have a lot of monthly specials! The location was already great for me. It's so much easier then going into the city. Thank god for Bruno and his talent when it comes to coloring hair! This past Thursday, I had beautiful highlights and went to get a Keratin treatment at Giovanni Sacchi's Salon after I picked up a Groupon. I left their salon with damaged, greasy hair and bright orange highlights which I had to be seen out in public with. When I called to get Bruno's assistance to repair my locks, the receptionist quickly booked my appointment and I was seen this AM. Bruno took the time to explain what happened to my hair and offered solutions. I left less than an hour later with pretty, shiny chocolate hair and some highlights, sadly to get over the orange we had to go a smidge darker all around. Bruno explained this would occur before he attempted to fix the damage. Bruno/his staff are always welcoming, professional and accommodating. Prices are reasonable and the salon itself is upscale/much nicer than many of the Manhattan places that charge a fortune. The place was buzzing with clients this morning but everyone was being taken care of in a quick manner and seemed very satisfied. Glad I do not need to cover my hair with a hat when I go out tonight! This is my go to place now (it's very convenient being around the corner from me). I went there initially to get a manicure pedicure a few years ago right before my wedding. They were meticulous about my nails; making sure they were perfect, and beautiful. The manicure lasted for more than 2 weeks!! as for hair cutting; i am lazy and don't go as often as i should. but i use Rosa and she is a sweet heart. I also am not so meticulous about how my hair is styled. But this place works for me. Everyone else is also very nice; the shampoo girl, the woman behind the counter. Very friendly, and sweet. This salon is very pretty. I came here for the massage which I got as a birthday gift. All I can say, I would not come back here or at least I wouldn't want the same person that did my massage. Here is why: she spoke through the ENTIRE massage and I couldn't relax for not even one minute. She was talking about her life which I could of cared less about. PLUS she cut the massage by 10 mins. It was supposed to be 55 minutes but I got 45. I would either want someone else from here but if they all talk then I won't be coming back. Really happy with my experience here! I was in dire need of some color--my roots had well past grown out and being on vacation had lightened the overall color. I called at 9 on a Saturday morning and they were able to squeeze me a few hours later. The moment I walked in I was warmly greeted and my colorist was told I had arrived. Loved Bruno! He took time to break out the swatches and talk through what I wanted and what he thought would work the best. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the charge for the blowout (half the cost of the color). Even though it was really nice, in my opinion that's something that should be included in a color or cut service. I didn't want to write this review, but as a yelp user who relies on other people's honest experiences, I felt as though I was misled by these good reviews. This is for the massage and facial with Nathalie. I purchased a groupon for a 55 minute massage and deep pore cleansing facial as a birthday treat to myself. I enter the basement (spa) on this hot day & walk into a scorching hot room. Was told to undress & go under three layers of HOT blankets. Nathalie says nothing to me, but gets started with the massage, with rubber GLOVES on. Why is my masseuse treating me like day old jambalaya stuck on a frying pan?! Needless to say it felt HORRIBLE & all I kept hearing was the squeaking of the gloves as she rubbed my back. Yes, rubbed it, that is all. My muscles & knots were not touched during this "massage". She spent all of 10 minutes rubbing half dry gloves up & down my back, occasionally playing with my fat, then wiped a wet towel over it & moved onto my legs. When it was time for my arms she actually held my arm up the whole time, while just squeezing at my arm fat. She rushed through just rubbing her hands up all around like she had absolutely no idea what she was doing & like she was afraid to touch me. NONE of it felt good, in fact at this point my blood pressure was raised - so much for a relaxing spa day. This "55 minute Swedish massage" was actually a 30 minute rubdown. I was SHOCKED when she told me it was over. Apparently Nathalie also thinks a full body massage only includes back, legs & arms. Thats right - my hands, feet, head, NECK AND SHOULDERS were not touched!!!! What?!??? Just as she is about to start my facial (I'm dripping with sweat at this point) I say to her "you're doing extractions, right?". She responds "do you want the extractions?". I'm sorry but didn't I pay for a *deep cleansing facial*? Is this girl even licensed? There is NO way, and if she is then that school needs to be shutdown. After 10 minutes of suffocating me with steam while she sits back & does god knows what.. My patience has run out, my heart is racing, I'm agitated / pissed off I actually paid money for this girl to waste my time. I ask her to go to the bathroom and she says yes & leaves the room. I think she's going to bring me a robe or towel since I'm butt ass naked and the bathroom is down the hall, but she never comes back. So, I get dressed and walk out the room to find her sitting there. Oh I'm sorry did you expect me to walk to the bathroom naked?! Like what the actual f***?! When I tell her I don't want to continue with the services, all she says is "ok". I go upstairs and immediately ask for the owner. Now, Bruno was very nice. But I cannot believe for a second his words when he said he is "shocked" and has "never recieved a complaint about her." Was it her first day? I don't know but it was unacceptable from a place who labels themself a "Spa". I was not offered a refund or any amount of money back, even though I didn't fully recieve the services I paid for. But Bruno was apologetic & offered me to come with someone else. I was going to give it a chance but was appalled when I was given an appointment a week later. This was my birthday treat to myself I want it done today (my day off) & honestly I'm glad I declined & didn't risk experiencing anything like that again. Considering how shocked Bruno was at how horrible and unprofessional this masseuse sucked, I couldnt trust his word that the next one would be any better. Unfortunately an apology doesn't put money back in my account, but thankfully Groupon did. I spent the rest of my day at a different spa & had an AMAZING experience. From the second she started I could tell the difference in professionalism. This was a REAL masseuse. Her hands never once slowed down or stopped during the very thorough massage - she found my knots & almost as if she knew what I had been through earlier - she spent soo much time on my head, neck and shoulders. Bruno - please do your salon a favor and find someone who knows what they're doing. For the same price somewhere else I recieved an amazing HEAD TO TOE relaxing and thorough massage which included my temples, hands, feet and everything in between. But, that is for someone elses 5 star review - I just wanted to give insight on the comparison. Anyway, lesson learned. In writing this, I hope I can help someone else with my honest experience because I hope no one else ever has to go through that on a "Spa day". Update: No Bruno, I've never been redflagged on groupon nice try. They gave my money back because they know how I am a regular customer and NEVER had one complaint made to them. This is my 2nd time getting a massage at Bruno. The first time I went was several years ago but I remember my experience was good. I saw a groupon deal and decided to go again. The massage rooms was in the basement. I got to the store at 2pm and with checking in and undressing, im not quite sure my massage was for an entire 55 minutes. I thought it was for an hour but no big deal. Theres a sign posted on gratuities which was 15% to 20% of the original cost which was $100 and up. The masseuse had a lot of strength and asked where I had pain. She focused a long time on my back. It felt weird that she wore gloves because of the many and many places ive been, no one wore gloves. Bought a groupon pamper package for 2. I definitely won't be going back to this salon. The massage was down right annoying and the facial was just ok. I asked for medium pressure and was told this is a swedish massage not a deep tissue. At other places, whenever I get a massage the masseuse usually customizes the pressure to my needs, not an option here! Apparently you just have to take what they give you. My husband asked for the oil to be wiped off his skin after the massage and was told they don't do that, while my masseuse wiped the oil off me, so clearly they do it. Very disappointed and annoyed total waste of money. They also charge a $10 per person 'tax' and ask for tip. Very unprofessional. read more

Bruno really does this well. From the second you walk in the door you are warmly welcomed by reception and, also, the owner. The interior design appropriate and exquisite. The quality of services is that of an upscale Manhattan salon yet it's local with better prices and an "old Brooklyn" kind of feel. If you want color or a cut Cathy is THE BEST (I mean THE BEST) - she'll help you choose a cut and color and will always go beyond the call of duty to keep her customers happy. Her clients turn to friends and some have followed her over too many years to mention. I also get waxed here and have a mani/pedicure. I have to agree with the other reviewers that when getting waxed, etc. they are always trying to sell you something - enough with the lymphatics and other services. If I wanted them I would ask. Parking is not too bad either. Overall I've truly enjoyed my services at Bruno's and as you can tell with my other reviews I'm pretty picky. read more

Don't go there for a massage. I think their masseuse is just the same woman who does facials and nails, and is not professionally trained. I've gotten a lot of massages and can tell the difference. She told me to lie down on a towel (and the towel looked like an old faded beach towel, not something worthy of a spa) and left the room, but didn't leave me a towel to cover myself! So when I realized this I had to get redressed and go find her to ask for a towel. She used way too much oil, and it made it too slippery to get a really good massage. She also did those body punching things - to me, those are usually given at the end of a hand massage when you're getting a manicure maybe, but they don't have a place in any real massage. She also kept talking and I really just wanted quiet. After a while of me giving her one word answers, she finally got the message. It wasn't terrible, but it bothers me when these salons tack on the word "spa" to their name when they really don't provide solid spa services. Just stick to hair, people. read more

I treated myself to a mini spa day at Bruno's!! Bought a Groupon and went a few weekends ago. I had the best one hour massage with Natalie! Super professional, theraputic yet relaxing... She worked every muscle on my body firmly but gently... You can feel she is trained to be a professional. She also gave me a wonderful mini facial. Lisa was super kind and gave my head a great massage while applying my deep conditioning treatment too. Bruno was so gracious and sweet also. I absolutely loved my experience at Bruno's Salon. Its like Manhattan in the Bay Ridge area. First off, Shore Road is beautiful, picturesque with the trees and water views. Second Bruno is in a great area, the end of Shore Road which means you can find parking. A lovely thing in Brooklyn. The place is clean, friendly and decorated tastefully. I had waxing with Olga, she was fabulous. It was my first time and she really explained everything and made it as pain-free as possible. I had upper legs waxed, bikini, lip and eyebrow. She is someone you really need to visit, because she is a perfectionist and really gentle. I won't lie the bikini area does hurt, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Plus I have really sensitive skin and I was not as red as I usual get with the lip or eyebrow and also no burns. Loved it. My spa companion went for a Deep Tissue massage with Olga and loved it. Wish he could go everyday, it was very relaxing, clean and tranquil. Olga is the best, you must go and see her. She does everything from facials, waxing to massages. The salon also offers you cappuccino's or lattes, wine, water, whatever your heart or palate desires. Bruno is the colorist and I heard very good. As for price for the services I had, all together is was 165, but that is including the massage since it was my birthday treat. Still cheaper than Manhattan and a lot closer for me. A year and a half ago, I purchased a Groupon certificate for a facial session at Bruno Salon & Spa. I experienced my first facial there and was so impressed with the results of their aesthetician, that I purchased right then and there three more sessions. Due to personal reasons, I was not able to use the purchased sessions within the year's allotted timeframe. I called Bruno Salon & Spa and spoke with Carmen, the manager, who was so professional, compassionate, and understanding that she allowed me to extend my purchases beyond the one year time limit. In the last two months, I have had one facial, one dermabrasion session, and one massage with a beautiful woman whose name is Ciomara. Not only is Ciomara's work flawless and meticulous, but her energy and soothing spirit elevates each session I've spent with her. She is a beautiful soul and a true healer. The atmosphere and condition in Bruno Salon & Spa is intimate and clean and supremely conducive for being pleasantly pampered. The staff is welcoming and friendly and to top it off there are always delectable goodies offered gratis at the front desk. I highly recommend Bruno Salon & Spa to anyone wishing to have a refreshing and beautifying experience. I cannot believe some of these negative reviews, they are simply not true. Bruno was recommended to me by a friend about 7 years ago and I have been his customer for color. My friend also recommended Bruno to two other girlfriends at about the same time and they too, have been his customers since. Since I live on Long Island, traveling to Brooklyn is often a problem so I tried numerous people in my area (for touch ups), I end up going back to Bruno and he fixes any mess, lol. In my opinion, there's simply no one better than him professionally. In addition, he is a very pleasant person and the salon itself is very clean, tastefully designed and organized. I have been going to Bruno for hair coloring for years. He is great! I wouldn't go anywhere else. I live on the Upper West Side. I travel to Brooklyn to have him do my hair. He takes his time and does it correctly. He talks to you before to understand what you are expecting. My hair looks like it is naturally that color. His highlights are worth every penny! If you are going to dye your hair or get highlights you owe it to yourself to get it done professionally. Get it done by the best! I receive complements on my hair all the time! Today me and my husband had massage and facial at this place. My concerns are: gloves that they are using during the massage, the same gloves for the facial (they don't even change them!); instead of extractions my Esthetician pretended that she was doing something, when I asked why I've been told that they do only nose&chin and she doesn't have time. But what is funny is that she left me alone for at least 30 min overall before extractions. She didn't do any mask or facial massage, she just did fake extractions for 5min max. Also, she never asked my concerns or at least if I have any allergies. The massage table was squeaking...But I have to tell that my husband was more lucky, he had some Russian girl doing massage and facial for him, he is ok with his service. We started with a consultation where I was asked your basic questions - how do I wear my hair? what products do I use for styling/washing? do I want to keep the same look or change? I felt the stylist was very attentive and engaged in good dialogue rather than just nodding along to what I was saying. The final outcome is a great cut, plus 2 product recommendations that I will be able to work into my routine. Had a Living Social voucher for massage, met the owner (namesake of the establishment, was so congenial that I decided to spring for a color and highlight session with him, too. He truly worked with zest to get me a lovely head of mulit-tonal autumnal color! (I am a Fall color gal, after all!) The staff on the whole was sweet as well. The only issue was the long time I had to spend there--but then again, I should know better than to step into a busy salon on a Saturday expecting to not wait around. My cousin got married this past Saturday and we all had our hair and makeup done here for her wedding. I'm not 100% sure of his name, but I think it was Greg that did my hair, it was the only other guy working there besides Bruno. He did this awesome up-do which everyone complimented. What i really liked about him was that he took his time, he did not rush and he made sure I was happy with everything he was doing. He was also hysterical and very friendly too which is a plus. Also, it was pretty windy that day and my up-do didn't budge - huge plus! Everyone in the salon did great hair and we were all happy with how we came out. I also had my makeup done by Jovi and she did fake eyelashes. She did a great job too. She listens to what you want and is happy to change or add anything if you ask her to. She was a pro with the individual eyelash application too. Overall it was a great experience and they made my cousin and her bridal party very happy on her Wedding Day. The lady who did my facial was very kind and gentle on me and gave a lot of advice on how to take care of my skin after I have explained her the problems I have with my face.
