This is the best Italian food I've had in the area hands down! The Seafood Special was perfectly flavored, not too salty like some places. I've also had the chicken marsala, very tender chicken, DELICIOUS sauce. My boyfriend gets chicken parmesan and says it's the best he's had here in DFW. Service is excellent, I definitely feel like the servers are paying a good amount of attention to me, and even when I'm just picking up take-out, they make sure they address me promptly (love listening to the live piano while I wait as well). I moved to Texas from NYC two years ago and this is the first Italian food I've had that's decent. Ordered the Calamari which wasn't over fried and the Marinara sauce was a nice bright red color which is a sign of fresh tomatos, possibly San Marzano, and was a little sweet. For an entree, I got the Baked Manicotti; The pasta wasn't Al Dente and was a little mushy but the tomato sauce and mozzarella made up for it. Like I said, the sauce is fresh and sweet with a bright red color and the mozzarella had a good high moisture. Definitely a decent Italian place in DFW, which as a region, lacks quality Italian cuisine. read more

Im.not sure where all the negative reviews were coming from but after reading them I wasn't looking forward to going to Bruno ' s for a company dinner. Thank goodness I was pleasantly surprised. First the service was awesome. We had 34 people in our party. The serving staff was on point. The whole dinner service flowed very smoothly. Kudos to the staff. Now the food. We started our meal with bruschetta bread and calamari. The bread was good, the calamari was excellent. The seasoning on the calamari was so savory and it was fried just right. The marinara was fresh and tasted homemade. I split a caprese salad with someone and ot was plenty for both. The tomatoes were fresh as was the mozzarella. For dinner I had the risotto. I confess I'm a risotto snob and hard tonplease. I loved their risotto! It was creamy and delicious. The flavors of the mushrooms were excellent. The at some here of the party room was good for events. The restaurant itself was romantic and a great place for date night. read more

If you have food allergies or food restrictions, don't expect them to be honored here. My family is vegetarian and ordered vegetarian dishes - only for my 7 year old son to be fed a dish with fish. Instead of acknowledging the mistake (we hadn't eaten our food), the staff called us "bad people" and refused to let us leave without paying our bill. I found this place to be despicable and the defense the staff put up for it's order taking practices rather than just apologize was horrific. The gentleman defending this practice claimed to be the owner's brother. To get slapped with the bill $50+ for not having eaten a bite and feeding my family against the food restrictions provided should give you a good sense of what this place is all about. read more

I am so happy to have found Bruno's. My guy took me there for a date night last weekend, and I liked that it was within walking distance from our apartment. The fact that it's located right next to a creek, so if you get a spot toward the back of the restaurant, you'll get to sit in an area with floor-to-ceiling windows, and get the BEST view. We were seated promptly, and our waiter, Efrain, was wonderful from the start. We ordered a bottle of cab and were served some warm bread and butter. The butter was soft, which was nice. I hate struggling to put cold butter on my bread. Todd ordered the Penne with Sausage & Peppers, and I ordered the Capellini Pomodoro. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our entrees - the meal was substantial and really delicious. It was perfect with our cab! For dessert, we went with tiramisu, which was a bit on the sweet side. I usually like mine to have more of an espresso flavor, but I didn't mind. It was still good. On our way out, we stopped to say hello to the piano player, who was charming and kind - he played some songs for us (including some songs many players don't know), and we stayed to have coffee and espresso at the bar. This is one of my favorite Italian Restaurants! It's has always been much more Northern Italy with lighter sauces, and cream sauces instead of the Southern heavy red tomato sauces. The first time I was here, I called and made reservations. When I arrived at the host stand for my reservation, the host greeted me loudly by name and said that they had missed us. It was most impressive to my date. We were seated in the back, on the canal in Spring. The air was filled with soft Italian music, there were candles on the table, and the outdoor view was covered in lights. Everything was absolutely beautiful. What I remember most of that evening was the Dover Sole prepared and deboned at the table in a spectacular show of skill, that is almost impossible to find anywhere anymore. The appetizers were shared family style, just as when I lived in LIdo de Jesolo. The steaks were wonderful, the fish was cooked to perfection! The Saltimbocca and Veal Limone were mouth watering, and keeps me returning. I've been returning to this restaurant on a semi-regular basis since 1999! If you want an excellent meal, with romance... this place is difficult to beat! 5 Stars...6 if they were available! read more

This is my second visit to Bruno's and the environment that it is in is really pleasant and an oasis in a very busy strip center. One of the greatest problems is to find parking to get into dinner. The host a fairly friendly and want to see did very quickly. I found the waitress a little confusing because I didn't understand her at all when she was describing the specials. Much of what I understood was very intuitive. The scallops and risotto were incredibly well prepared and a testament to the skills of the shift. It's so easy to over cook scallops and as we all know a risotto is not something that just anybody can make successfully and both of these elements were perfectly executed in the dish. Everybody Else had manicotti so there must be something special about the manicotti and I plan to try it the next time I'm there. The dessert was unbelievably good and especially the cheesecake in the tiramisu which were perfectly well flavored without being overpowering. I recommend a visit to Bruno's. I selected Bruno's for a client dinner based on the number of 5 star reviews. The interior/ambience was nice and we were seated at a very nice table, in a corner, with a view of the canal. The drinks from the bar were just ok, several came out incorrect and had to be sent back. The wine list was unimpressive and the waiter was not very knowledgeable. (Of his own volition he left the table to get the sommalier, which was perfectly fine and a pro move, but returned alone and recommended a Sterling Cabernet - missed opportunity for the house here, we like a good wine and are happy to pay for it!). We were a group of 5 - and had a chicken dish, a steak and 3 pasta dishes. All of the pasta was overcooked (flabby) and the lobster filling in the ravioli was pretty flavorless. The chicken masala was probably the best of the 5 as the bone in ribeye was very thin and not seasoned well (the broccoli was either cooked ahead or frozen). For dessert we ordered 2, chocolate cake that had been frozen or refrigerated and cheesecake that was good. For service alone I would give 5 stars, the wait staff was attentive even though they were busy. Tip was included for our party of 5, 20%. I will not be taking clients here again. read more

Someone has to get the word out about this place and I'll try not to repeat anything from the other reviewer, but for anyone who takes offense at Italian from Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill or takes pride in single-location restaurants with high quality food that marks a special occasion, Bruno's is a can't miss. The first trip I took here was over 8 years ago - my brother knew about this place from a friend of a friend and brought our grandparents here as part of a graduation celebration. Also to note that these ancestors are Italians, each that came to the US very young and know their way around the kitchen. They were very complimentary to the wait staff and management about the food, although that may be less noteworthy than the collection of autographed celebrity photos (mostly Cowboys legends) up on the wall at that time. About 18 months ago on my most recent visit I could tell that it was mostly unchanged. They had brought down the portion sizes a little but restaurants generally prefer that to serving huge entrees and handing out doggie bags pretty often. Warm bread and butter is the first thing to hit the table. Mozzarella Caprese "salad" was next. This was well done, thick slices of fresh mozzarella and tomato with a few glugs of olive oil - It almost makes you wonder why anyone would eat lettuce. I also sampled the shrimp scampi - if you like garlic and shrimp a lot, you will love this. For the main course it was the Saltimbocca: veal, ham, spinach, mozzarella in a wine-based sauce. If you aren't a fan of veal you will be if you try this, and it's proof that Italian does not have to have tomato or alfredo sauce to be good. The grilled salmon is another example of this, served in a simple white wine sauce and not a dry flake in the house. It's tragic to think that people know less about this Valley Ranch treasure than Carino's cuz of the giant sign on 635. By the way - since it is pretty upscale, the recommended attire here is business casual and it's nonsmoking. Enjoy. read more

In Dallas, Texas, this little shopping strip restaurant is hands-down my favorite for Italian cooking. It might not look like much from the outside, but walk in and you'll see a quaint and beautiful little mom-and-pop classy Italian restaurant with an expansive windowed canal view. This restaurant has got full-on Italian romantic stereotypes in full swing as well -- Italian waiters (I believe in tuxedos) speak in fragmented English to take your order. Excellent house wines, excellent appetizers, excellent courses, everything is, well - you get the idea. Come a little dressed up, or business causal and you'll fit in either way. Take my advice and ask for a seat with a canal view and you'll be in hog heaven. I even proposed to someone here, and she said yes. Thinking back, she was probably on a garlic bread high. read more

I am amazed this restaurant has not been reviewed. This was my first visit for an early dinner, and I was so impressed upon walking in. You enter through the bar into a lovely dining area (2 separate rooms) with Mustard colored walls, mahogany chairs, white tablecloths, etc., onto a beautiful atrium (glassed in patio area) overlooking a Canal, with a lovely landscaped walking path, lighting at night. Floor to ceiling wide windows with a soothing, peaceful view of flowing water in the canal. OMG, AWESOME! I started with a glass of house Merlot, and wonderful warm, soft bread with creamy butter. The menu is so varied; great appetizers, salads, pastas, veal, chicken, fish options; so much to choose from. My house salad had the most wonderful house dressing; a tomato based, with olive oil and basil....so light, fragrant, the color of a Catalina dressing you buy at the grocery, but so flavorful and not overwhelming. My difficult choice of an entree' ultimately was the Lobster Ravioli....what a great choice. 4 Large Raviolis with Lobster chunks, and a creamy tomato cream sauce, great for dipping the warm bread served. Also, couldn't resist ordering a side of Angel Hair Pasta with Marina Sauce...way too much food, but had to try it all. Of course, have a LOT for meals tomorrow (and maybe Sunday) but it was worth the expense. This is not your typical inexpensive "spaghetti & meatballs" Italian restaurant, but well worth the investment for quality and quantity of food and ambiance. Roxi was my server, and deserves a "10" for her delivery of attention. Unobtrusive, but there when you needed her. There are so many enticing items on the menu I want to try...how many times can one eat out each week? This is a great place for an important business lunch, a girl's night out, or that very special SO or spouse night out, or group events, i.e. birthday's, anniversaries, etc. Whenever you go, make sure you ask for seating on the patio; even call ahead for reservations ; patio seating is a MUST. Only complaint....not due to the restaurant or its service or food....one other table there when I arrived, also on the patio/atrium, next to my table....all of whom were talking LOUDLY on their cell phones, call after call, in a foreign language, getting louder as the conversations went on. Very distracting and interrupted a hopeful quiet dinner. What about the considerate policy of "no cell phones in a restaurant"? Even my server noticed this situation. Thanks for the Yelpers who recommended this place. Friday night we tried it for the first time. The experience was fabulous! There was four of us and we started with the calamari and a bottle of Chianti. I had the pasta fragole soup to start and lobster ravioli for my entree with a side of asparagus. It was all great! The soup was light and not over salted...my biggest gripe about so many soups. The ravioli was served with a pink sauce. The ravioli was FULL of lobster and the lobster was fresh, not to shell fishy. The sauce was light and creamy, not too heavy. I typically would have only eaten half. However, it was so good... I finished it and had no room for dessert. The asparagus was perfectly roasted and I shared with the table because the serving was quite large. The ambiance was quite elegant and next time, I will dress a bit better than jeans. I love to get dolled up and this place gives me that opportunity. Also, there is live piano which was lovely. It's in the bar so you can still comfortably share conversation at the table. The prices were very reasonable. If I had to gripe, there is one odd thing... the wine list. It sort of jumps from table wine to aficionado wine. There are no bottles that are in between. Thanks to all the recommendations from Mike, Daniel, Scott & Fuzz we finally tried Bruno's and of course we loved it! Bruno's is barely a two minute drive up the street from where we live. Unless your paying attention you'll drive right past it. We were seated instantly on a Tuesday night and started off with bruscetta. The bread was was amazingly with tons of garlic and just the perfect amt of basil on top. David ordered the Pasta Mia in which you pick a pasta and sauce. He had angel hair w/ meat sauce. It smelled so good I need to take a bite or twenty. I ordered the Mussels in red wine sauce which was decent but the sauce was more like a spicy tomato soup w/ spinach leaves. Also, the Mozzarella Capresse salad which was absolutely enjoyable. The only complaint I would have it that there was capers sprinkled over it and took away from the fresh Mozzarella. Our server Pete was a delight and very quick with the diet coke refills. I am planning on going back and making it my usual Italian haunt. read more

This was by far the most enjoyable dining experience I have had in a long time. Amazing service! Bruno and his brother Johnny and their entire wait staff make you feel like family. Fantastic wine list. $4 Peroni. The Saltilbocca alla Romana was by the far the most satisfying dish the wife or I have had in a long time. Explosive flavor, amazingly balanced. Priceless. Finished it off with the chocolate mousse cake (amazing!) and the Irish Espresso (another amazing). I have never cared less about how much my bill will be. It could have cost $150 and I wouldn't have cared one bit. Amazing experience. We've lived here for almost 3 years and this is our 1st time here. We will be back a hundred times. Please come here. Bruno's has been around for a solid while. It's authentic and not a chain. The food is decent, lots of pasta and fresh meat & veggie selections. I enjoy sitting at the bar and striking up a convo with folks over a glass of vino. It's a romantic setting also if you're looking to bring a date and dine in. Very intimate, cozy and not too loud so you can actually talk over dinner without people shouting across the room at each other. It definitely doesn't look like much on the outside since it's tucked in a tiny shopping center but for sure it's worth checking out if you're in the area and looking for something a little different with your beau. read more

I was appalled by the food. I was there for lunch yesterday. My companion was known to "Johnny" and we were seated near the canal. That's what elevated this review to 2 *. I had the clam chowder - rather thin, quite flavorful, too few clams. Potatoes were cut to the right size, so definitely passable. But then the horror show. I ordered the linguine with sausage. I got a gloppy mess in a bowl. looked liked I might have prepared it on a single burner in a college dorm 40 years ago! Pasta eay overcooked. Thick, gooey red sauce, hot outside, cold inside sausage. Steam? What steam - it wasn't liquid enough tor there to be any spare water. So, won't be going back there. read more

Some friends that live nearby recommended that I try this place. The location is actually somewhat intriguing since you can see the nearby canal that runs through Valley Ranch. The interior is neatly appointed, and fairly clean. However the food tastes like what I can only describe as frozen Italian. Coupled with high prices I was totally unimpressed. I feel like the only people who love this place are that particular type of woman who only really appreciates something if a man wastes money on it; with a total disregard for the quality. This place wouldn't totally be out of the question if you were trying to impress the aforementioned type of gal, but if she knows her Italian food..... Randomly stopped by one early morning as they first opened. I was actually worried when I stepped into the place that I was out of my league and pay range. I let out a huge sigh, $9.99 for Eggplant Parmigiana. So very classy, at an amazing price, where is the catch? Outstanding prompt service, and did an Amazing job at not being overly friendly. They stayed out of view during chat with my guests, but when it was quiet, they came in and topped off the drinks and asked us if we needed anything. This is first class service. Food was amazing, properly cooked and large servings. They even split a serving for us. I hope this is a family owned business, just to top it all off. Bruno's is a neighborhood staple my friends, my husband and many of our friends enjoy it. My husband and I prefer to spend our $$$ in the neighborhood in which we live whenever we can. Whenever Johnny is hosting we always have fun! Johnny recognizes us and always takes a few minutes to chat, make jokes, etc. His brother Bruno is a completely different story. He is usually aloof and behaves as if he is doing US a favor by 'allowing' us in the door. This evening a friend of ours is having a surprise birthday dinner party for his wife. The hub & I wanted to surprise her by having a bottle of champagne waiting when they arrived. I called, Bruno answered the phone, took my name, CC information and my request. A few minutes later he called back to tell me my card had been declined and he had "ran it twice". I knew this wasn't possible but rather than make big deal I asked if he also accepted 'XYZ' card. He said yes and in a tone as if he were dealing with some deadbeat scum he proceeded to tell me they have "an hour wait for dinner..." so I would have to hurry...?! Again, this was a party for a friend so I refrained from giving him a lesson in customer service and common manners. I was left still wondering if I had screwed up and forgotten to pay my CC bill. So I called the CC company to check. Yeah, umm Bruno? You may indeed have run some series of numbers "twice" and had been "declined" but it wasn't my card. You see dear, my account has a ZERO balance. As it always does. The error was yours. Thank you for ruining my evening with your arrogant, presumptive behavior Bruno. read more

I have been coming to Bruno's for a few months now. It never disappoints. The service is excellent and the food is great. My wife and i always sit beside the piano and enjoy the live music. This place is low key and moderately priced with a great wine selection. It is probably my favorite italian restaurant in the DFW because it has a little of everything. read more

Went here not too long ago with a group of about 20 coworkers after work. I randomly asked about eight of them what their thoughts on this restaurant was and the majority said, "it was average, I wouldn't spend money here but would eat here again, I've had better, etc." Who is located in Valley Ranch and is in a strip center. The dining area wasn't too bad, the men's bathroom only had room for one person and it looked torn up. Near the back of the restaurant as you get closer to the bathrooms, there was a stench of some rotten cheese or something that made two or three of us nearly sick to our stomach. We ordered about five or six or so platters with appetizers on them. The only thing that was worth eating on it was calamari. Nothing on the menu really caught my attention, so I ordered a flirt mignon. This was probably a notch above what you could probably get it Applebee's and cost about $30. And yes, I know, I should not have gotten steak at an Italian restaurant. A couple women got salmon and they said it was, " OK." Id say Maggiano's is a better spot to eat Italian. I wouldn't make a special trip for this place unless you live within a five minute drive or so. read more

I almost feel bad giving this place only 3 stars, but I have to be true to my tongue. First off, the restaurant is beautiful inside and had all the elegance that I would expect in a classy Italian establishment. When possible, they seat you in a large room that is glass on 3 sides. It looks out over the canals and is a gorgeous setting to enjoy a meal in. The service was great also. Our waiter was so nice, I wanted to just give him my wallet instead of just a simple tip. Unfortunately, the food was a bit of a let down. I get the feeling it may have just been a case of ordering the wrong items but I really was not overwhelmed by greatness at all. So I write this review more to just steer you away from some of the items that I had. The fried mozzarella sticks were not great. Just your average mozzarella with a the crumbly breading and a rather ordinary marinara. The soup was some white bean variety and was really pretty uneventful. It seemed too watered down and lacked any real flavor. I dumped about half a cup of parmesan cheese in it just to give it some real substance. Also got the baked chicken lasagna. This was for sure the best item I got but I still was not really blown away. The tomato sauce was much too overpowering for such a mild chicken and it was pretty light on cheese which would have enriched the dish and given it some balance. In all, it's decent for Valley Ranch and I am willing to bet that it has more to offer, but for now, I'm sticking with the 3. read more

Last weekend my wife and I were out and about and found our self in a part of town that we had never explored the food scape before. We decided to go and enjoy a nice adult dinner out and relied on our friends at Yelp to help us pick a location for Italian. We ended up picking Bruno's from the list because of the reviews and we are glad that we took everyone's advice. We arrived and were immediately impressed with the feel and look of the restaurant. After being seated my wife commented about how long it had been since we had been to a restaurant with cloth table cloths, a hazard of having teenage children I guess. The wait staff was very attentive and the owners were all very welcoming. One "welcomed us to the family", which was really true, they treat you like you are family. I ordered the Portabello mushroom risotto and it was right on target. It was rich and creamy and filled with delicious grill Portabello mushrooms, red bell pepper and asparagus. My wife got the fettuccine Alfredo, i think it has probably been two years since she has had this so it was like comfort food to her, and it was very good as well. I do not understand the great reviews this place gets! The service was good. Beyond that, this restaurant was a no go. The decor and the food presentation were both about 15 years out of date. I could have easily overlooked this if the food had been good, but it wasn't. First, we got the fried lobster ravioli. The filling was a tasteless paste and the inner pasta was too chewy. Then, I got the cheese ravioli soup. It was bland cheese tortellini floating in a mixture of chicken broth and melted butter with some curly parsley floating on top. It tasted greasy and disgusting. MY husband got the salad with the "house" dressing that tasted EXACTLY like Catalina bottled dressing. Then, I got the Veal Marsala. The sauce had a sickly sweet taste that was cloying.
