I paid Miquel a $3k deposit for an AC replacement he said I needed. Miquel failed to start the project and then informed me that he would not be completing the work and would refund me. Looking at his reviews and prior lawsuits, this theft is a pattern of behavior. It has now been a month, Miquel has gone MIA. He has failed to return my deposit and I am suing him. I had my unit inspected by two other HVAC companies who told me that he was lying and my unit is completely fine. He has been sued before for similar types of fraud and scumbag behavior. Honestly, I am relieved that he was too high to start the work in the first place because who knows what damage he would have done to my home. Miquel also made unwelcome sexual advances through text prior to running off with my money. He randomly sent me inappropriate photos -- I fear his theft is partially retaliation for rejecting his unwelcome advances. Buyer beware! Maybe Miguel provided good HVAC service years ago, but, I used his service and his work is extremely unprofessional! He doesn't arrive at the agreed upon time. He takes long frequent breaks. But, most important, when he said the job was done, I could feel air leaking from around the entire furnace. He did a half-ass patch up job. A week later I turned on the heat to check the furnace and smoke and a foul smell filled my first floor. I called PSEG. They sent the fire department. The smell was not gas. However, Miguel failed to blow out the new heating system. The system started making a strange noise. PSEG arrived. They checked my furnace and realized one of the wires was coiled around the motor. Yes, the AC unit in our Philadelphia condo stopped working during a peak summer heat wave. We contacted Miguel at Bryant Home Services and he came by within two hours to diagnose the problem. He gave us options to consider and explained them carefully, pointing out the financial considerations for each option. We decided to replace the old (14 years) unit with a new one. Yesterday Miguel brought over the new AC unit, hauled it up two flights of stairs, attached a rope to it and then lifted it onto the roof. TL;DR: Miquel has the best prices in town, but you should hire him if you are certain about the job that needs to be done. Miquel was able to set up an appointment quickly and did not charge for assessing the problem and providing an estimate. He started up by recognizing the old air filter and replacing it (he did it free of charge!) When the a/c still didn't work he went up to the roof to check the unit, and immediately said it doesn't work and should be replaced. He told me the unit is likely from 1991 and it is time to replace it. He urged me to buy a new one the same day and pay him $2,500 for the job. I'm happy I decided to wait and get a second opinion the following day. Yes, I paid $150 for the visit of the professional HVAC professional, but the difference was that the other person I brought did a more thorough check. He came with tools to check the unit on the roof, and immediately identified that the only issue is the control unit. After reading the code on the control unit, he understood that the a/c just got too cold due to the old filter so it shut itself down. After a restart, everything was working properly, and I saved $2,500!! He also told me the unit is from 2014, not 1991... I recommend hiring him only if you are sure what needs to be done. If the price estimate for repair is large, I suggest consulting with another company as well. I sent out a few requests for quotes to get my refrigerant replaced since my A/C kept freezing. Miquel replied back pretty quickly that he could come by and give a free estimate. When he came, he did verify that the refrigerant was low and replaced it. As he was leaving, the A/C turned off and we both went "uh oh". He began troubleshooting some steps to see if it was maybe the thermostat or a blown capacitor. We went through the steps together to rule out exactly what it was. It wound up being the entire compressor needed to be replaced. I wasn't expecting to have to replace the entire unit that day, but Miquel did everything he could to try to avoid having to replace it. He gave me a fair quote for a new one and drove out immediately to pick it up. He got it installed in about an hour and stayed to make sure it was running. It's been over 48 hours now and my house has never been cooler. I work in IT, so I really appreciated him going through the troubleshooting steps and trying to find workarounds to save me money. In the end it wound up costing me a lot more than just the refrigerant, but Miquel only charged me for the HVAC unit itself and not all the troubleshooting steps beforehand (refrigerant, capacitor, etc.). Recently bought a home and am in the process of finding my "guy" for everything. My HVAC stopped blowing cold air last night and I was sure another huge bill was headed my way.
