I think the main reason behind the 4 stars is the ambiance. It is a very cute spot. It was a very quiet night and there were very few people. But it was not an issue. The main reason i am docking a point is because of the lack of vegetarian options. I wish there were more options such as pasta or something more hearty than just cornmeal and sauteed veggies. We obviously caught them on a bad night because the food was mostly really good, but the servers/cooks were overextended which resulted in a disjointed experience. I do agree with other reviewers that this place is likely the best quality food in Cambria which was a delightful surprise. Our server was really nice, they just didn't come by often and put our order in in the exact order that we told her the things. This meant that we got the bread and salads last and the other small plates in an order that didn't make much sense (we opted for all small plates. I think this is my bad for not telling them the exact order we wanted to get things in. So make sure you do that. We ordered the following small plates: Mushrooms: So incredibly good, my favorite dish of the night. Roasted beets: These held equal footing with the mushrooms. Really good, well seasoned and well dressed. Meatballs: These didn't work for me. They were really tough and the flavor was just ok. Came with undercooked kale that was sliced in long strips so we weren't sure if it was just a garnish or meant to be eaten. Potatoes: A little under seasoned, but about as good as roasted potatoes can be. Brussels sprouts: Good but came out at a weird time so I think that effected our appreciation of them. They came out at the end with the salads. Probably would have been good to come out with the mushrooms and meatballs. Polenta: not my favorite, the sauce on the polenta was delicious, but the polenta itself was a bit bland and thicker than I like. We ended up sweeping it through the other sauces which made it better. I wish it had come out with the meatballs. Dressed greens with tarragon dressing: Delicious salad, but not prepared well meaning we had a giant lettuce leaf mixed in with the ones that had been cut torn to more appropriate sizes which feels incredibly nitpicky. Bread: very good, but didn't come out how it appeared on the menu. It was supposed to come with a trio of butters and instead came toasted with olive oil. Still delicious though. Drinks - Ginger Lime Spritz - Remembered that I think yuzu tastes like bottled lemon juice, but can't knock them for my preferences and the drink was good with a nice kick of spice from the ginger. They seemed to have options for just about any preference. Dessert - pudding - Delicious but a little bit grainy and came with espresso grounds sprinkled on top which wasn't advertised. Normally I would love this but husband hates coffee so we just scooped it off. The restaurant itself is a cool spot with dark wood paneling and the tables are spaced out nicely. The entrance is confusing though because you walk down a hallway to an open dining room and the hostess stand is on the opposite end of the room. So we just sort of stood in the doorway until the hostess came to us with menus and then asked if we had come through the right door. It would have been weird to go to the hostess stand since your butt would be in diner's faces and it is also close to the kitchen so you'd be in the way of traffic. I don't see another way that they could have set things up though so gotta work with the space you're given. read more

I have no idea why this place has a good review. It either had a massive menu/chef change recently or all the reviews are fake. No way a normal person would rate this place five stars as is. This was easily the worst meal we've had this year in terms of price and food quality. I've never seen a half roast chicken priced at $70 anywhere else in the nation! My wife's shrimp plate was $28 for five shrimp! The burger was less than mediocre and smallest I've ever seen from a sit down restaurant. Service was ok, a little slow but that's not what I was upset about. Other places that have the nerve to price their dishes this high have way better food. read more

Brydge is a welcome addition to the Cambria favorites. The food was excellent- fresh, seasonal and unique. We had two small plates of the beet salad and zucchini and shared a Reuben. All very delicious and plenty of food for two. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. We sat on the lovely back patio surrounded by native plants and trees. The kitchen fan does whir out there so if you are bothered by such things, eat inside in the many cozy seating areas. We'll be back for sure! read more

What a gem, recently opened in our little town! We had a sensational chickpea soup and delicious smushed little potatoes to start, which made us think the owners must have farmer friends in the area. Then the lunch platters we fought over were also great, one cheesesteak and one mushroom burger (with nicely charred greens), both accompanied with more picked-this-morning salads. Yumm! We were sorry the previous place closed a couple months ago, but this is an amazing upgrade. Very friendly staff, intimate atmosphere in a lovely old building, and as soon as the rains let up we'll get the spacious patio again. One of the best culinary experiences I've ever had. Should be 10 stars! From the moment we walked in we knew it would be special. Located in an old house, the ambience was amazing. Rustic but warm so much charm. Amazing. Owner/Chef Elaine greeted us as we entered and she took care of us the entire night. We felt like we were in her house. She explained that the "suppers" were her babies. And they were. We started with the small plates to share. Had all but three. All for off the chart. There wasn't one thing we didn't like. Finished off dinner splitting the Prime Ribeye between the four of us. Turned up perfect. Desserts were epic. Not sure why there isn't a line out the door every night. Do not miss this place. Was looking for a good place to eat after visiting Hurst Castle and stopped in for a late lunch on a whim. We were the only ones in the place and were floored by the quality of the food. You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients and everything was prepared perfectly. Ambiance is cute and cozy and service was great. Came to Blendfest in Cambria and saw a new restaurant called Brydge and thought we would try it out? The place is a historical house converted to a restaurant. We are a party of 6 and sat in a cozy cove in a very rustic setting of eclectic decor. The restaurant has a "home style" look and feel. We were immediately greeted and the service for the night was going to provided by Elaine, the owner and chef! This was a surprise but turned out to be an amazing experience! Being that we were 3 couples, at the bottom of the menu was selections of the "supper" series of three items: Ribeye Steak, Eggplant, and Chicken. The side dishes were bread selection of toasted sourdough and Naan! The other side was a perfectly dressed Romaine lettuce salad with French Feta cheese. We brought our own wine and paid a small corkage fee but looking at the wine list they have local wineries of which I was particularly interested in trying Phalen Farms...a new project for Rajat Parr a master sommelier and wine maker and a "rock star" in the wine industry. Unfortunately, since it was after Valentines Day and all the varietals I wanted to try were sold out. However, next time I come, I definitely want to try the wines! But, back to the food...after starting and sharing the salad and bread, we also ordered a side of Carrots and Cabbage that was spectacular! Some of the best I have ever had. The carrots had so much fresh flavor and exhibited that home rustic authentic cuisine and simple elegance rarely found anymore. The taste is so expressive it's almost in a pleasant way "perfumed" and vibrant. Another side that came was a Beet Salad. Now I'm not a big fan of beets and sometimes they are overbearing on the taste buds but this was amazing and balanced. Next the main courses: The first was the chicken and polenta: a half chicken, roasted perfectly and both the dark and white meat were tender and flavorful. Again, as a "theme" of the food here the aromatics and flavor are abundantly more than expected and true to the source and quality of the ingredients. The chicken taste like what chicken should taste like. Next was the Eggplant: cooked perfectly again with balance and tenderness of the eggplant itself and the tomato sauce and cheese that was not out of balance with the entirety of the dish...amazing! The finale is the Ribeye steak with Polenta. The steak was cooked perfectly and again the quality shines thru! However, the only negative note for the entire meal was the Polenta. It was good but by comparison to the other items, it's suffered slightly in my opinion and was a little "lumpy". We talked to Elaine for some time after the meal and then noticed that the place was trying to close. I did ask about a Chocolate Pudding that was reviewed with glowing reports but was sadly sold out! So, next time, for sure going to try the Phalen Farms wine and Chocolate Pudding to complete the total experience of Brydge! We will be back! When it comes to restaurants in the Cambria area, there are very few great food experiences and most of the older places have been in the area so long they get complacent. This is a new place that is heads and shoulders ahead of the rest in the area and hope that this place continues to grow and be successful. read more

We stopped by this place unplanned for dinner, and it turned out to be a wonderful hidden gem. We ordered roasted mushrooms and the prime ribeye and I was beyond pleased with how fabulous it was, dare I say even surpassing the likes of Harris Steakhouse or Niku Steakhouse in SF. The ribeye is 16 oz so it's recommended you share it, but due to the excellence in seasoning, tenderness and juiciness I could envision many eating it entirely on their own. The other dishes were to the same quality; the complementary olives did not have the typical overpowering bitterness; the roasted mushrooms are a must get as they were cooked to softness but had the addition of breadcrumbs that provided a crunchy texture and the salad that came with the steak had high quality feta cheese. High quality is what I would describe every ingredient used in each dish, I wouldn't be surprised if everything was locally sourced. The service was just as pleasant, our waiter was friendly and talkative and happily shared the history of the restaurant being a former house and a former sandwich shop. This brings me to the ambiance, as the building was initially designed to be a home, the restaurant very clearly looks like one from both the exterior and interior. This provides a homey feeling but do not mistake the place being unprofessional, the food plating was appealing and professional like any high end restaurant. My only semblance of complaint is that the plates are made of light metal so when cutting into steaks, it tends to shift the plate. The large cut of butter resting on the steak is also quite unnecessary and excessive. If you are a local or near the area because of visiting Hearst Castle anything similar, I highly recommend this gem as one of the best steaks in California. read more

My husband and I came here for dinner after a day at the beach. This is an adorable restaurant in an old home just minutes away from Main Street. There is seating in the front, inside the restaurant and outback. We were formally greeted as soon as we stepped in and offered a tour of all sections before choosing where to sit, my face must've given away how much I already loved everything I saw. This was such a great first impression of the staff. We decided on the back patio, which is unfortunately the only picture I took the entire time. We sat under a beautiful old tree, it was very quiet and peaceful. My husband is a meat eater, and I am a vegetarian. He went with the cheesesteak and I went with the portobello mushroom sandwich. We both loved our meal. The portions were perfect and priced well. You can tell they pride themselves on fresh, quality ingredients. We had a French press of coffee and the stone fruit and sweet cream for dessert. The coffee was amazing and never got bitter. The desert was sweet and light. After our meal I was satisfied and full but didn't feel heavy and stuffed. Our server, Declan, was amazing! The entire staff was warm, welcoming and truly seemed like they were happy to help their customers. My only regret is not trying the beet salad but I will definitely be back. I can't think of the last time I was this happy about an entire dining experience. I can't wait to return on our next visit to Cambria! read more

This place was simply fantastic. We had the organic chicken and Wagyu burgers and every single person in our party loved it. Ages ranged from 11-53. Best chicken we've ever had. The chicken was baked to perfection. The breast was moist and tender and the skin on the thigh was crispy just the way I like it. The potatoes were smothered in butter and topped with cheese. So good. The owner came by to say hello. She's a first time owner and came to SF to go to school to be a chef and sort of just fell into the restaurant business. Absolutely incredible restaurant. The location is perfect, set inside a beautifully restored and maintained home from what seems like a 100 years ago. The space is quaint, and only seats about 12 tables, giving it an intimate feel. Seeing the servers move through the different parts of what used to be a house was so fun to watch. The service was top tier. We had a dedicated server, Delphina, would made excellent suggestions and guided us through the menu. She was attentive and checked in on us frequently. The whole staff was at a beck and call. Incredible service! Finally, the food. Fresh, locally sourced products won the day. We opted for a few side dishes (the olive oil potatoes and Gojuchang noodles) to pair with our main course, the half chicken dinner. The food was cooked to perfection, and had an abundance of flavor. The food is even better than the ambience, interesting ingredient combinations of great tasting (and sometimes healthy) entrees. Excellent service by Declan, a bright young man who exudes natural enthusiasm for his job and who Aldo appears to have been very well trained. The food may not have been the issue, but the overall experience certainly was. The restaurant business is difficult, and requires experience and knowledge to be successful. When the first dish to come to a table of four was only one patron's main course, it was a clear sign that something was wrong. No matter how unique a restaurant may try to be, it cannot take out each individual plate at a time and certainly not take out a main course before serving appetizers. It was even worse that one of the appetizers we ordered was never served at all. It is also worth noting that the restaurant was not up to standard in terms of materials and lighting. Plastic furniture, PVC made bathroom floor, electrical plastic candles, or too bright uncontrolled lighting are not acceptable in a fine dining establishment. When the owner or manager came to our table at the end of the meal, we were disappointed to hear that she did not offer anything in response to our poor experience. The best thing she could have done would have been to offer the meal on the house with a sincere apology. This would have left us with a good taste and would likely have resulted in a generous cash tip for her staff. It is understandable that running a restaurant can be difficult and mistakes may happen. However, after two months of running a restaurant, these mistakes should not have occurred. Many restaurants take a three month period of silent launch before opening their doors to the public, to ensure that everything is running smoothly. I understand the hard work and dedication that goes into running a restaurant and I hope this review is seen in a constructive light. read more

We decided to try Cambria's newest restaurant on our last visit there. We did not know that the restaurant doesn't have a beer or wine license and it wasn't stated anywhere on the website or on our reservation confirmation email. The setting is very austere with bare wood walls and floors and rolled up yoga blankets serving as seat cushions. Combined with the background new age music, you feel more like you're in an ashram than a restaurant. The menu is very limited, and many of the side courses are also part of the house suppers. We decided on the half chicken supper, which comes with polenta, a salad and grilled bread. The standouts were the polenta and the salad. The white meat of the chicken was overcooked. We also tried the roasted beets with greens that were very bitter and didn't add to the dish. For dessert, my husband ordered the mixed berries with cream. The berries weren't marinated or anything--just plain. The cream was topped with an orange crumble that tasted bitter. They mentioned they were changing the menu soon, and hopefully things will improve. We would have preferred to have spent our brief vacation time somewhere with more atmosphere like Indigo Moon or Moonstone Bar and Grill. read more

One of the best meals we have had *anywhere* in a very very long time! My family and I popped in yesterday for lunch. We got the wagyu burger, the grilled cheese, the pastrami reuben, the potatoes, and the Persian cucumber salad. We ended the meal with the homemade pistachio ice cream. Everything was extraordinary. We chatted with the chef for a few minutes. She does everything from scratch. The restaurant is in a beautiful, quaint building from the 1870s. We walked downtown and explored shops after our (frankly decadent and extremely high calorie) lunch. Really can't say enough about this place. Blew us away. Go! read more
