    Stunning views with a coffee.

The food and the views are INCREDIBLE! But the service is questionable? We stayed at Ragged Point for 3 days for our Honeymoon and ate at this restaurant several times. What we discovered is the night shift and day shift are two completely different vibes. The Day Shift is happy to check in on you, accommodating, and kind. The Night Shift could genuinely not care if you're there. After being sat pretty quickly on a not so busy Tuesday Night, we watched everyone around us be served for 40 minutes before I could get anyone's attention. Lo and behold, the only person I could grab was the incredibly kind hostess who ended up taking our order. Once the server saw that we were actually being helped he decided he wanted to be our server...kind of? No apologies, nothing. And then he performed his disappearing act again. The hostess ended up coming back to check in on us and gave us some cheesecake. Get this girl a serving position. The Pro's: The Butternut Squash Salad, Cheesecake, Pancakes, Classic Breakfast, and Soup of the Day were phenomenal. The views, gorgeous. The morning crew, lovely. The Hostess with pearl earrings, nice. The Con's: Being ignored by every server and busser with zero accountability. RIP It's a great spot, and perfect for breakfast. Hopefully they can figure out dinner service if they want people to eat.

The best views! Grab a seat on the patio on a sunny day if you're able to. Although the ocean isn't very visible from the restaurant itself, the outside grounds are so well landscaped and you will see many beautiful birds. Once you finish your meal, take a stroll to the viewpoints on the grounds. Absolutely stunning views of the coast! Iconic photo ops. The food at the restaurant was cooked well. However, overall it lacked salt and seasoning. Also, the fried chicken on my mom's meal was extremely overcooked. If they can correct the seasoning and not served overcooked chicken, this would have been a 5 star review.

DO NOT GET THE FISH N CHIPS. For $22, you think you would get a decent amount of fish. See pic, it was so sad and disappointing. I've seen chicken nuggets bigger than these. NO, I did not eat any, this is what I saw when I opened the box. Totally disgusted.

View was amazing. Customer service was a plus an easy place to take a bite.! a view to digest while digesting your food!

We came in 15 minutes before closing and yet they still accommodated us with grace and energy, we are so grateful! Our server was friendly and made us feel welcome and wanted, which was great after our 4 hour drive to the location, and no other food options were nearby. The chicken and risotto was delightful, I highly recommend. I ate every last bite! The fish and chips were well received, too. And they have a healthy portion of chicken fingers for those in your crew who aren't into fancy things. Not to mention the view is breathtaking! It has high potential to be very romantic. I guess that's why people choose to get married here :)

We thoroughly enjoyed our late lunch here while driving this area of Big Sur Hwy 1. The food was great and came out quickly. They had a menu full of great items, and we enjoyed the fish and chips and the Birria sandwich and onion rings. Loved that they had Pepsi products as well. Service was quick and friendly. Views from the outside siding were great & they also had ample indoor dining. Definitely walk around and enjoy the property like we did. The views of the seaside cliffs are amazing and there is a nice path to walk around. The gift shop on property is also nice. We plan to come back here someday and stay on the property, as it looks great!

Ragged Point offers spectacular views of the California coast and a nice break from the drive. If there's a spot free in the parking lot, it is worth a short stop just for that. We dined on the spacious patio with our husky and found it pleasant enough (although just be aware, if you have a dog, they seem more "dog tolerant" than "dog friendly." Our waiter was visibly annoyed that we had ours with us). The menu had a nice range of choices and portions were large (too big, actually - we both had some left over but didn't think it would last the drive). While the food looked good, both my sandwich (pictured) and my husband's fish and chips were quite bland. Customer service could also be better.

Eight of us on a eBike ride arrived for lunch (with reservations) and were immediately seated inside with a nice view of the great scenery behind the restaurant. There is also beautiful patio seating. Service was friendly and great, with frequent touches to refill waters and teas and inquire other needs. The clam chowder was excellent with a thickened base full of clam and potatoes. The Butternut Salad, Monte Cristo Sandwich and all the desserts were terrific! There is also a Coffee Bar that serves espresso and tea drinks, beer and wine, pastries, and to-go orders from 8 am to 3 pm every day.

The dinner was delicious and probably one of the best filets I've had in a long time. Also, sitting outside for sunset was so beautiful

Such a pretty little spot. Nice place to have some brunch on the way back from Big Sur/camping. Super pretty and quaint and lovely live music when we were there. Nice views of the ocean as well. There's also a hotel, coffee shop, snack bar, small market and gift shop as well. The drinks from the coffee shop are really good. We got some drinks to go after, but during our meal we really enjoyed the Big Sur Fog Tea Latte - earl grey with caramel and chocolate. It tasted like a fancy milk tea, but the focus is still on the tea flavor. The flavor was very earl grey tea forward and beautifully complimented with the caramel and chocolate flavors. Toasted marshmallow was great too. As for the food, the crab benedict was delicious - the crab cakes were perfectly seasoned. Th calamari katsu was very unique - tender and not chewy/rubbery at all. Good breading, nice and crisp. The side of macaroni salad was really good, love the big pasta they used for it and it wasn't heavy at all or super heavy on the mayo like it usually is. The biscuits were fire, beautifully flaky with good raspberry jam, served with butter and honey. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits, the shrimp was cooked perfectly, not rubbery at all, perfect seasoning and fresh. It's good that the grits came with the toppings of the shrimp, bacon and peppers, otherwise the grits would have sadly been a bit bland/underseasoned. The cheese flavor was not strong enough with the grits. It still balanced well with the saltiness of the bacon and shrimp otherwise. I would come back here when I visit Big Sur again, Deetjen's is still my favorite, but this place is better than Whale Watcher's Cafe.

We went for lunch on a Saturday while hiking in Big Sur. Ragged Point is a nice place with a variety of services available. On this day you could get a bbq, and watch the live band. We chose the dining room. The food was delicious and the service was ok. The coffee was excellent and so were the snickerdoodles.

Ragged point restaurant has Delicious food scenic mountain and ocean views of our amazing coastal area. We tried the halibut tacos and birra sandwich which were the bomb. Relaxing place to enjoy cocktails and wine outside in the beautiful garden. The staff was very friendly and helpful explaining the exceptional menu.

Ask the Community - Ragged Point Restaurant

What times do they serve breakfast?

Are dogs on leash accepted on outdoor dining patio?

Yes, but they can be a problem unless VERY well behaved and majority are not. Tables are close together & service is slow. Squirrels & other critters dogs love to chase are in abundance & there's a lot of temptation to follow "The chase."…

    What time does lunch end?

Call the restaurant; times can change depending on days, holidays etc. During busy days/times food goes fast. Get there before the crowd.

Seeing that there was a Patio and that everywhere I had been up to that point, including our hotel, had allowed dogs, I walked over with my tiny pup in his little carry bag. When we arrived, I saw that the patio was enclosed, so I realized I might have to take my pup back to the hotel, but then saw an open air spot with tables and chairs in the parking lot. I would have been willing to sit there and order, so my companion went to ask if that was possible, but was given a very quick and rude "we're not pet friendly", which I was an attitude I was already catching on to as I walked closer and saw unnecessarily large "no pets" signs. I was offended, not for the policy, but because I was already starting to see that was the case & it would have been so easy just to say it gently or nicely & acknowledge that our inquiry was no longer about coming into the restaurant or patio at all. That response made the difference between us taking the doggo back to the hotel room to return for dinner or writing a negative review apparently, because it felt condescending and no food experience is worth feeling unwelcome - especially when every place surrounding the area was completely pet friendly. They are located on a beach, but that day with not-so-relaxed vibes when a simple redirect would have been perfectly fine. I'm a pet person, and it's ok if that's not something you accommodate, I completely understand (especially, sadly, because some pet owners are not responsible, and their pets act like animals and not necessarily family members) - but there's no excuse for being rude when your entire job is service. You're in a beach spot where people come to relax with the people (or animal companions) they love most, no need to have an unfortunate attitude. :( Sorry restaurant/ chef/ other staff, I really would have liked to try the food. P.S. Dog-friendly places can happily have all my money, cheers to patio dining in (most of) California.

Hospitality is far more than delivering food and wine it is making every guest feel genuinely welcomed, valued, and cared for. When your name carries the legacy of Hearst, those standards should be even higher. The setting at Hearst Ranch Winery in San Simeon is undeniably beautiful. The oceanfront views are spectacular and make it a destination worth visiting. Unfortunately, the hospitality did not match the stunning location. This was our first visit, and sadly, it will more than likely be our last. Throughout our visit, it was evident that some guests received warm, attentive hospitality while others, including us, received only the minimum level of service. Hospitality should never feel selective. We ordered a charcuterie board, and after waiting approximately 30 minutes, I finally asked our server about it. Only then were we informed that we were expected to walk across to the General Store, pick up the board ourselves, and bring it back to the winery. We were also told that the winery kitchen is closed on Mondays and that the host had apparently been confused when taking our order. Had this been communicated at the time of ordering, the misunderstanding and the lengthy wait could have been avoided entirely. The apology we received felt disingenuous and lacked the ownership that transforms a service failure into a positive recovery. Mistakes happen in every hospitality business. What guests remember most is how those mistakes are handled. Hearst Ranch Winery has an extraordinary location and a name synonymous with excellence. I sincerely hope leadership reinforces that every guest deserves the same level of warmth, professionalism, and hospitality from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave. Beautiful views may bring people through the doors, but exceptional hospitality is what brings them back.

All food and non-alcoholic drinks are included with your stay (with a 1 entree limit for dinner). Over the course of our stay here, we tried the majority of the menu. Most of the food was top notch with the highlights being: *Moroccan Shakshuka - Comes out pipping hot in a mini cast iron pan. The spicy kick is infused within the eggs and peppers. Pairs perfectly with the toasted pita *Porchetta Sandwich - The pork was so rich and juicy and the crusty roll soaked up all the juices *Smoked San Marzano Bisque - The tomato flavor is very concentrated and infused with a pleasant smoke. A touch of creme makes it perfect. *Salt Spring Mussels - The fresh mussels were very tender and paired well with their spicy, smokey sausage. *La Bistecca - Medium-rare filet with roasted onions and chimichurri. Can't go wrong here. Areas for improvement: Their pizza crust is a tad thick and too floury for my taste. Their squid ink pasta is also too thick and chewy. A note about service: On the first night, I ordered their signature Marine Layer drink which has a bubble with Lavender smoke in it. Their machine malfunctioned, resulting in no smoke. I spoke to the manager about it and he personally rectified the issue for the second night and provided two complimentary drinks. This is an example of stellar service.
