We were seated promptly, but it took quite a while before a server came to our table. The restaurant didn't seem particularly busy, yet we had to wave someone down every time we needed anything. I ordered the halibut tacos, and they had very little fish compared to all the other fillings. My partner ordered the salmon salad. The salmon arrived looking burnt and had an unusual flavor. When we mentioned it, we were told that's how it's prepared, but they did replace the dish. Unfortunately, the replacement tasted the same. The salad itself was fresh and good, but the salmon had a flavor that seemed off. It's disappointing because the restaurant is in such a beautiful location, and we were expecting a much better dining experience. read more

We stopped here for lunch while driving along PCH 1 . The ocean view and the live music outside were beautiful, but unfortunately that was the best part of our visit. The service was disappointing from the start. Our table had a large hole in it, my boyfriend's plate had a chipped edge, and my napkin was dirty. I asked for a clean one, but it never came. When I reminded the server later, she asked if I wanted an extra napkin, which made it pretty clear there wasn't much communication between the staff. It was also very hard to get anyone's attention, and no one ever came by to check on our table. At one point, I even saw one of the servers walking around blowing bubble gum, which I personally don't think is appropriate for a restaurant like this. The food was just as disappointing. One of our kids ordered a burger, but the server never asked how he wanted it cooked, and it came out completely overcooked and dry. Our other child ordered the fish and chips, but it was mostly batter with very little fish. My boyfriend's fish burrito barely had any fish in it. I ordered the salmon salad because the ingredients sounded interesting--salmon, avocado, blueberries, pomegranate, and seeds. Unfortunately, the salmon was extremely salty and overcooked. I mentioned that it was almost impossible to eat, but I was told it was supposed to taste that way. A few minutes later they brought back the same salad with a different piece of salmon, but it tasted exactly the same. No apology, no alternative, and the salad stayed on the bill. The only other thing worth mentioning is the restroom situation. For such a large restaurant, having only two restrooms created a surprisingly long line. It's a beautiful place with an incredible view, but that's really the only thing that stood out. The food and service just didn't match the setting, and unfortunately I wouldn't come back. read more

I agree with the other reviews. Breathtaking location, delicious food, but service was lacking. We were driving on highway 1 and stumbled upon this restaurant for dinner. Statistically speaking, this is a no brainer. They have no competition. There wasn't any other restaurant in sight. Perched on a hill with the most amazing view. Their little courtyard looked like a storybook setting. We were seated by a lukewarm host. Our server seemed to be in a rush even though the place wasn't packed. I ordered the osso bucco, which had the most tender pork meat, risotto, and brussell sprouts. Sure it was overpriced and the portion was ridiculously small, but the flavor made up for it. Loved the tart black cherry mimosa - what a surprise combo! We were so hungry we just dug in without taking any photos. Oh after paying the bill, the server muttered have a good day under his breath as he was walking away, without any eye contact or smile. That pretty much summed up the service. And God forbid you need to use the bathroom! Trash was overflowing, floor was a mess, and they ran out of toilet paper. I had to flag someone down for help and got a weird look. read more

The food and the views are INCREDIBLE! But the service is questionable? We stayed at Ragged Point for 3 days for our Honeymoon and ate at this restaurant several times. What we discovered is the night shift and day shift are two completely different vibes. The Day Shift is happy to check in on you, accommodating, and kind. The Night Shift could genuinely not care if you're there. After being sat pretty quickly on a not so busy Tuesday Night, we watched everyone around us be served for 40 minutes before I could get anyone's attention. Lo and behold, the only person I could grab was the incredibly kind hostess who ended up taking our order. Once the server saw that we were actually being helped he decided he wanted to be our server...kind of? No apologies, nothing. And then he performed his disappearing act again. The hostess ended up coming back to check in on us and gave us some cheesecake. Get this girl a serving position. The Pro's: The Butternut Squash Salad, Cheesecake, Pancakes, Classic Breakfast, and Soup of the Day were phenomenal. The views, gorgeous. The morning crew, lovely. The Hostess with pearl earrings, nice. The Con's: Being ignored by every server and busser with zero accountability. RIP It's a great spot, and perfect for breakfast. Of the recommended restaurants along the Big Sur highway, this was the only one whose menu appealed to me, so I ensured that passing by this point (about 20 minutes north of the Hearst Castle entrance) coincided with lunch. I had a small meal of clam chowder - a plain creamy broth, nice selection of clams - and crab cakes, which came with a light aioli mixed in with black beans and corn kernels. I think the cakes had filler, but there was also real crab in there. Pretty good, and a satisfactory light lunch. Service a little awkward at first. I had to wait quite a while at the front counter for someone to show up, and then the seating area was blocked off with a rope we had to go around. The best views! Grab a seat on the patio on a sunny day if you're able to. Although the ocean isn't very visible from the restaurant itself, the outside grounds are so well landscaped and you will see many beautiful birds. Once you finish your meal, take a stroll to the viewpoints on the grounds. Absolutely stunning views of the coast! Iconic photo ops. The food at the restaurant was cooked well. However, overall it lacked salt and seasoning. Also, the fried chicken on my mom's meal was extremely overcooked. We came in 15 minutes before closing and yet they still accommodated us with grace and energy, we are so grateful! Our server was friendly and made us feel welcome and wanted, which was great after our 4 hour drive to the location, and no other food options were nearby. The chicken and risotto was delightful, I highly recommend. I ate every last bite! The fish and chips were well received, too. And they have a healthy portion of chicken fingers for those in your crew who aren't into fancy things. Not to mention the view is breathtaking! It has high potential to be very romantic. They had a menu full of great items, and we enjoyed the fish and chips and the Birria sandwich and onion rings. Loved that they had Pepsi products as well. Service was quick and friendly. Views from the outside siding were great & they also had ample indoor dining. Definitely walk around and enjoy the property like we did. The views of the seaside cliffs are amazing and there is a nice path to walk around. The gift shop on property is also nice. Ragged Point offers spectacular views of the California coast and a nice break from the drive. If there's a spot free in the parking lot, it is worth a short stop just for that. We dined on the spacious patio with our husky and found it pleasant enough (although just be aware, if you have a dog, they seem more "dog tolerant" than "dog friendly." Our waiter was visibly annoyed that we had ours with us). The menu had a nice range of choices and portions were large (too big, actually - we both had some left over but didn't think it would last the drive). While the food looked good, both my sandwich (pictured) and my husband's fish and chips were quite bland. Customer service could also be better. read more

Eight of us on a eBike ride arrived for lunch (with reservations) and were immediately seated inside with a nice view of the great scenery behind the restaurant. There is also beautiful patio seating. Service was friendly and great, with frequent touches to refill waters and teas and inquire other needs. The clam chowder was excellent with a thickened base full of clam and potatoes. The Butternut Salad, Monte Cristo Sandwich and all the desserts were terrific! Such a pretty little spot. Nice place to have some brunch on the way back from Big Sur/camping. Super pretty and quaint and lovely live music when we were there. Nice views of the ocean as well. There's also a hotel, coffee shop, snack bar, small market and gift shop as well. The drinks from the coffee shop are really good. We got some drinks to go after, but during our meal we really enjoyed the Big Sur Fog Tea Latte - earl grey with caramel and chocolate. It tasted like a fancy milk tea, but the focus is still on the tea flavor. The flavor was very earl grey tea forward and beautifully complimented with the caramel and chocolate flavors. Toasted marshmallow was great too. As for the food, the crab benedict was delicious - the crab cakes were perfectly seasoned. Th calamari katsu was very unique - tender and not chewy/rubbery at all. Good breading, nice and crisp. The side of macaroni salad was really good, love the big pasta they used for it and it wasn't heavy at all or super heavy on the mayo like it usually is. The biscuits were fire, beautifully flaky with good raspberry jam, served with butter and honey. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits, the shrimp was cooked perfectly, not rubbery at all, perfect seasoning and fresh. It's good that the grits came with the toppings of the shrimp, bacon and peppers, otherwise the grits would have sadly been a bit bland/underseasoned. The cheese flavor was not strong enough with the grits. It still balanced well with the saltiness of the bacon and shrimp otherwise. I would come back here when I visit Big Sur again, Deetjen's is still my favorite, but this place is better than Whale Watcher's Cafe. read more

The California Lime Pie was so good... It was the absolute best key lime pie I've ever had! Which is unfortunate because I'll probably never be back here again since I was in the general area for vacation... The girl working at the register was very kind and patient! This one lady came in ordered some coffee, left and came back asking for more coffee, the girl gave her extra. Then the lady left and came back asking for another... So she got more. Then left and came back a third time... Insane... And asked for extra again. She got the third extra helping and then left still disappointed with all the extra coffee she got but the employee helping her was smiling the whole time and super understanding and patient. I got the grasshopper which was alright, I wish there was more mint and chocolate flavor to it. The espresso was strong and I think overwhelmed the flavor of everything else so I have no idea why that lady needed so much extra coffee in hers. We also got the fog cake and that was pretty decent. Very sweet. My friend enjoyed his boosted strawberry lemonade which was a special for the day. read more

What a beautiful spot, I'm surprised it currently only has 3 stars. Everything we ate was delicious - crab benedict, shrimp and grits, byo omelette, and calamari katsu. The biscuits that came with the omelette were to die for! Definitely opt in for those instead of the toast. The grits though was a bit bland, would opt in for the potatoes. Service was great and accommodating, got a high chair for my nephew and had outdoor seating for the doggo. The views were fantastic and they also had a musician playing too. It just felt like the perfect Sunday morning with the fam. Also all the beverages deserve high praise! Got seated right way and I ordered the Mediterranean salad. Was a good portion, fresh ingredients with the right amount of protein (shrimp). If I were going to go back, I would recommend it. The ambiance is like dining in a greenhouse with a patio deck available. Very welcoming and pleasant service staff. Plenty of free parking and restroom are very clean. Ragged Point is more of a complex; it has an Inn, convenience/fuel station, art gallery/gift shop, coffee shop/snack bar, and burger shop (which was closed). Based on this experience alone, I would have given them 5 stars. However, read on. We continued our drive up the coast and did some hiking. Knowing that we would stop here for dinner, because we had such an enjoyable meal for lunch. Boy was this not the case. We were totally disappointed. Seated right away, but took a long time to for someone to take our drink order and meal order. Staff are over worked and seem and confused. We saw some people seated after us get their orders in before us. If we had other options, we would have left. But remember you do not have a lot of options on CA HWY 1. Ordered the Pork Chop, It was supposed to be a Iberico Tomahawk, it wasn't, it was a regular pork chop (be it was a good size). Supposed to come with Apple-Potato Hash, I received regular mash potatoes. Supposed to be Grilled Broccollini it was raw broccoli. When we did get our drink order in earlier, I requested a glass of Chardonay, never received it, but also didn't get charged. The menu does state the pork chop "(cooked medium)" mine was questionable (as a matter of personal preference I never send anything back, I've been known to box it up and cook it longer at home, rather than sending it back). I noticed two other dinners send their steaks back because it was undercooked. This meal was not worth the cost or time. I would not recommend you dining here. The wife and I shared the berry salad and the fish and chips. She had a cup of the chowder, which was delicious. We did find a hair in the salad, and I found that the batter was not so well cooked on a couple of the pieces of fish; however, the fish tasted very good and fresh. Service was OK, not overly attentive, but reasonably friendly. Ambience is amazing, their glass covered patio as well as outdoor seating in such a gorgeous location is what makes this place special. So we were staying at ragged point and I made reservations to go to the restaurant on site. And I also will probably go tomorrow morning for breakfast. Our server was RGabriel.. He was very attentive and nice and highly recommended the Branzino which is a white fish similar to Seabass. It was exceptional. I'm glad we didn't have leftovers except for some of the wine as we had bought a bottle earlier and drink half of it. forgot to take a picture of the food. I'm so mad. They serve bread, which is nice because a lot of places now charge you. We got some Honig Sauvignon Blanc. If you are spending any time at the Inn, you must try this restaurant. The view is nice and very calming. Now for breakfast, I give it 5 stars. All the food was excellent, omelette, black cherry preserves, fruit, coffee. Also the prices were extremely reasonable. We ordered a burger from here and it was disgusting the bread was old and hard it seemed like it had been sitting out for a while and had just been reheated. The bathrooms were dirty and seemed like they hadn't been cleaned in a while, and the outside seating area smelled like poop. When we tried to get the burger removed from the check the manager immediately started yelling at us claiming we had ate half of the burger therefore could only get half of it removed from the check but there had clearly only been two bites taken out of it. read more

After an hour I said to another server that we still hadn't received our food and then our server brought out our food. He sat our plates down and said "you're welcome" we never saw our server again and the server who ended up helping us, closed us out. The restaurant is very pretty inside with live edge tables. Posting a review for our second visit to Ragged Point Inn Restaurant. Our first time was great, we had both a breakfast and dinner, the quality of which was surprisingly good. On our most recent trip, however, we had a shockingly bad experience. We reserved a table for 6 people about a month in advance for Thanksgiving dinner. We called to confirm those reservations again about a week in advance, and at that same time, received an e-mail advertisement inviting customers to join them for a special Thanksgiving dinner. When we arrived at 6pm, we waited 10 minutes before any hostess or server even appeared. When one did, she informed us there were no inside seats left. I questioned how that was possible if we'd reserved over a month in advance, and she replied 'everyone else reserved as well'. Which obviously isn't helpful since 'everyone else' was seated and we weren't. After another 5 minute wait, the hostess informed us they might have a table available in 10 minutes. This was puzzling since there were literally two empty tables in the middle of the restaurant in full view from the entrance. They did find a table, next to a window (not one of the two empty tables in the middle of the restaurant), and it was another 10 minutes before a waiter or waitress approached our table. That waitress seemed surprised, and took our drink orders only. Another 5 minutes passed and an older gentleman asked if we were ready to order. Most of us ordered the Thanksgiving meal special. It came out fairly quickly, but one or two meals came out well after, and were incomplete (no mac & cheese was available on the platter and nothing was substituted for it) The Thanksgiving meal special (which was approximately $60) was inedible. The meat was gristly with lots of fat. The green-beans were undercooked, and the stuffing looked as if it had been poured dry onto the plate (rather than moistened or actually stuffed in a bird). The gravy was cold. Two other tables (on either side of us) complained to the waiter about the meal and refused to pay. To the waiter's credit, he said they would not be charged. We also politely told him that that the Thanksgiving meals were horrendous, and he removed them from the bill without argument (as if waitstaff and everyone else already knew what they were serving was not something they could seriously charge anyone for). Throughout it all, there was no manager present. The hostess was incompetent and the food was atrocious. Maybe they sent regular staff home for the holiday and brought in a temporary team for the special holiday dinner. Whatever the reason, it may have been the worst restaurant experience we've had in 10 years and ruined a holiday meal (for which it was too late to organize anything else). I strongly recommend avoiding Ragged Inn Restaurant based on this, particularly for any special event or holiday. read more

Came here on a Sunday night during our stay with a reservation. I'm not sure if they were short staffed but the service to get seated, get our orders taken, and to get our food all took forever. Which was fine, we weren't in a rush, but the hostess was stressing us out the way she was running around and making remarks about how stressed she was. Overall the food was just alright, nothing special. We got the mushroom bisque and expected it to be creamier but it wasn't. The oysters were shucked pretty poorly, we also had to ask for 1 more oyster since they only gave us 11 out of the dozen we ordered. I must say we were very disappointed that Hwy 1 was closed on our way to Monterrey but on our return back to the 46 we stopped to eat and boy were we happy we did so! Gabby the waitress was so sweet and courteous. She was also very patient as I couldn't decide what to order. Now the food was very filling and appetizing. The server was nice and understanding when we sent our food back but the chicken tenders were the highlight and best food that we got at the table, that's just SAD the fish and chips were SOGGY & BLANDDDDD! like not even salt added, bland. And you can taste that the batter was old! We immediately sent that back. The halibut tacos were ok at best, the fish was overcooked so it was dry.. the sauce and pickled onions helped but the pineapple salsa sucked too. This is a bit delayed, but I promised myself I would review this place. My cousin got married here this year and I had the chance to eat here about 5 times over the weekend. It was a nice change from what we have here in southern Oregon. I had many dishes, some pictured and some not. The food was great! Very homemade, and a great variety. The wedding hosted over 100 people, plus standard hotel and summer traffic. And service was still on point. Friendly, fast and the staff is funny! Very relaxing vibe on the inside, nothing too fancy. Really enjoyed everything I ate, and I look forward to revisiting here. read more
