My opinion of this store is of them carrying off brands with high markups. I did not recognize 95% of their wines. I bought a bottle of sauv blanc from Santa Barbara County for $23. It was only average and for that price it should have been better. The selection is also very limited. The place is very nicely designed. Just got off the phone with an associate there. Her attitude was extremely poor, she was rude, snappy and thats extremely unprofessional. I called about a delivery that still is not here yet ( almost 2 hours later). It's sad because I really adored this place and was very excited to become a regular customer. No enthused at all. This review is not about the wine( side note: great wine selection) however the manager on duty, Tuesday November 20th, was being so disrespectful and rude to his employees. It was just shocking to be wine shopping and to listen to him berate them, talk down to them, and basically treat them like they were beneath him. The owners of this place should really address this. Nobody should have to work in a work environment where they are being mistreated by their boss. Though I have to say I was impressed by how the employees on duty stayed polite, quiet, and continued to give good service in that condition. I hope this gets addressed. There are many people qualified to manage a wine shop out there that are respectful and treat their subordinates in the proper manner fit for a work environment. Terribly overpriced. Will not return. The gentlemen (perhaps the owner) sold me a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Brut for $ 72 (including tax)! I felt that the price was high, but because I don't buy champagne often thought that this must be a reasonable price. On the next day I checked a few other liquor stores in the neighborhood, including the highly regarded "The winery", and the same champagne was under $55 (including tax). 30% higher price on a standard item is not justified in any way. read more

Conveniently located adjacent to the Harlem 127th exit of the ABCD, this local wine store has very friendly and helpful staff. Featuring an international selection, there aren't many labels I recognize, but the staff has always been helpful in aiding my selection. There are occasional tastings (with discounts) and always a $12 and under table for reds and whites. read more

I saw some less-than-happy reviews on Yelp and wanted to chime in about my own experiences with BTL. I've been here several times, and am always happy with my visit. The employees are very knowledgable, and if it feels like they're hovering, I always got the impression it was because they were genuinely trying to help. Also, for a smaller shop, BTL has an impressive range of wines, and do a great job rotating in new options, usually finding unique varietals and wineries to feature. Don't expect Trader Joe's prices, but they have a handful of good budget options and lots of mid-priced wines for special events/more generous budgets. read more

Staffed by some fine, friendly and helpful folks, BTL is probably the best wine shop in Harlem, and one of my favorite wine shops in New York. They have a finely curated selection; instead of a ton of bottles crowding the shelves, you get a hand picked selection marked by versatility, quality and knowledge. If you are looking for a great wine pairing they will undoubtably have something that fits the bill; and even if you are not sure what you want and just grab a random bottle off the shelf it's probably going to be something enjoyable. read more

I am a loyal and big supporter of BTL Harlem. They have an amazing selection not found anywhere in Harlem. My boyfriend and I order from there all the time and everyone has been very friendly in person and over the phone UNTIL tonight. I placed an order shortly after 9pm and the gentleman who I spoke with nicely confirmed that it will be an hour before I get my order. I called back 10:45 pm to inquire where my order was. A woman answered the phone and I informed her about my situation. To say that she was rude and completely disrespectful to me is an understatement. She refused to listen to anything I had to say, told me that I did not order from there since she was the only one working (LIES) and she said that I had used a third party like Seamless to place my order. I gave her my boyfriends First and Last name and she insisted that she could not find my order. I had to firmly repeat myself a few times that I was telling her the truth. As she continued to call me a liar indirectly , the man who took my order in the first place, heard our conversation and yelled "yes he did". He took over and apologized for the situation. If it were not for the cocky uninformed and awful customer service I would have accepted the apology and my wine but I refuse to give BTL Harlem my business if they hire people who care less about customer service. Don't let a bad apple ruin your store, just throw it out. read more

I went into the store tonight at about 7:30 and a very sweet woman worker helped me to pick a moscato. The chip reader was having difficulties and she was being kind an apologetic, even asked if I had a different card to try. One was a debit card and one was a credit card, both were declining (confirmed there was money on debit and plenty of available credit on CC). The gentlemen there assisted another customer on a different iPad chip reader and It went through so I asked if we can try that. Without even looking up, he said "It doesn't work like that, it's not our problem- I don't know what to tell you. You need to figure It out with your bank". I just stood there shocked, as he rolled his eyes. Even the lady looked at me and mouthed she was sorry about that. Im not one to ever complain, as I have a business as well and I understand reviews are quite bias, however, he was just extremely rude and I wasn't even interacting with him. The lady was more than happy to try and said sure! I didn't even ask him. He was so dismissive. I was going to go take out cash, however I didn't want to return to this location with his service. Please let the lady know she is fantastic and very welcoming. Please let the gentleman know that he just turned away a customer who wanted to give money. I was also purchasing the creative coasters you sell and a wine glass. I come here often and have never met or had such a horrible experience . As ridiculous as It is to write a review this long over wine (common we all need our wine sometimes!), I just thought the district manager should be aware of the poor customer service.
