You never know where you'll find a good Mexican place. Coming from Texas, I certainly didn't expect it to be a small town in remote Maine. But wow, they delivered. Everything in this restaurant is homemade, from the salsa to the tortillas. So it's no surprise that the food was incredibly fresh. The drinks too (the blueberry lemonade was excellent, tart and sweet). The burritos are appropriately massive and filling. In fact, every entree will likely last two meals, making the prices pretty good. One minor complaint is that they went a bit heavy with the queso blanco on our yucca nachos (think Mexican loaded fries), so they were very salty/sour. Overall, the restaurant exceeded all our expectations as we were driving to visit the lighthouse. read more

This place was open only for lunch after 1 for some reason, but this worked fine with my plans. It is a small and rather spartan place which offered a Latin American menu, notably with decent vegetarian options. Their crispy chili lime tofu delivered 100% on the description, being both very battered and fried and having a strong tart flavor. It made for a great taco filling, and arrived with ample beans and rice. The rice seemed to have been sitting a while and was a bit clumped, but the beans had a nice spice mix. Given the limited alternatives, I felt I made a good choice in coming here and was well fueled for some hiking. read more

What a fantastic gem of a restaurant in Southwest Harbor! We were visiting this charming town and noticed Bubs when we drove through - a quick Yelp search told us we had to try this place, and we're so glad we did! Everything was fresh & expertly made, and I especially loved the chicken tortilla soup on a chilly night. The delicious burritos are XL and definitely shareable. Staff was kind and helpful, and most of the menu seemed to be gluten-free, which was welcome news for one of my friends - there was even a GF tortilla option for the burritos. My wife and I ordered takeout; one chicken burrito, one house salad, and one chicken enchilada. We were amazed by the amount of food we received! We are both above average eaters in the middle of marathon training and we got three meals out of the burrito and it must have weighed 2-3lbs. The house salad was equally large. Overall, it was a solid 3-star experience. We arrived and stood by the door for a few minutes before anyone acknowledged us, even though we made eye contact with the servers. That was a bit surprising given how small the indoor dining area is. Speaking of small, they don't have a restroom inside, so you have to walk around the building and go up to the second floor to use the bathroom. The menu isn't huge but covers the Mexican staples -- tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas -- along with a few Latin American dishes like yuca and empanadas. The yuca nachos were honestly the highlight of the meal, really tasty. The enchiladas, though, were pretty disappointing; the chicken was super bland, and there wasn't even an option to make it spicy. The rice and beans that came with it were just okay, nothing memorable. We also got a burrito and decided to pay extra to double its size, which in hindsight wasn't necessary. The regular portion is big enough! Two people could easily share the doubled version. The pork in the burrito had way more flavor than the chicken in the enchiladas. What was strange, though, was that the burrito didn't automatically come with cheese; you had to pay extra for it. That's like ordering a lobster roll and being charged extra for mayo. The total came to $75 after tip, for one appetizer, two entrees, and a Dos XX beer ($6). read more

Very cute little spot in Maine within Acadia National Park. It's something different among the various seafood joints. We got a burrito and burrito bowl with fresh squeezed lemonade. My boyfriend's burrito was huge. My food was good right siz. But our lemonade was not sweet at all and we had to ask for some sugar. WOW! My husband and I popped by for an early dinner and we were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food (and the portions!). Everything is homemade, including the tortillas, with excellent flavor! My husband and I are originally from Texas, so we usually don't expect much when it comes to burritos and tacos in Maine. We were beyond impressed. Initially, we thought the prices were a little on the higher end (not surprising for MDI), but the food was truly worth every penny-- quality and quantity! We could each only finish about half of what we ordered (chicken burrito bowl and BBQ pork burrito). If you enjoy burritos, this is a must have while in the MDI area. HIGHLY recommend! This new addition to the islands food scene is absolutely fantastic. I lived in Texas for most of my life and I'm in constant search of great Mexican food. We've been coming to the island for 20 years and never found good Mexican food. On a whim, we tried Bubs. Bubs is very very good food. First, the tortillas used to make the burritos are homemade. They are fantastic. A perfect texture and flavor, grilled to a slight char in places. Excellent! The meats (and tofu) are very good. I had a tofu bowl for lunch, which was surprisingly flavorful and crispy. Later, I tried the sausage and chicken. All great. The vegetable additions are very fresh and the coleslaw is also great. Since it was a vacation, we tried the fresh churros, and we could have ate two times as many. These folks know what they are doing and clearly care about their food. No joke, go here. read more

For this sleepy little town of Southwest Harbor, Bubs is a standout. Their food is delicious, healthy and flavorful. I had shrimp tacos and my husband had the enchiladas. Tonight I had a burrito and he had tacos. The black beans are fresh and not mushy, the rice is delish. And, I had the best margarita I have ever had, truly. Bubs makes their own mixers and they are made with fresh juices. Their Palomas are made with hand squeezed grapefruit juice! Who does that? YUM. I am a little concerned that they will get overrun by a good review, but this little new place deserves all of the credit for their sweet little restaurant that serves great food. read more

Came back again after visiting this summer. The burrito is the size of an artisanal loaf of bread, so we split one this time. The ground beef was extremely salty before, and was again today. Otherwise the burrito and salsas tasted fine, and the plantains were nice. Unfortunately something was off about it and we both endured waves of nausea and burping up for the next few hours while hiking around, which isn't quite as bad as actually vomiting, but also isn't much better. Rare find by my wife who was looking for a place to eat after we hiked Flying Mt. Food is all fresh and cooked to order. You may have to wait 10-15 minutes so be patient it is worth it. We all had the bowls. You make your own by following a menu and asking the owner for assistance. I had the ground beef with brown rice, black beans, cold slaw and sour cream. Excellent. Others had the shrimp and churro beef with fixings which were reported excellent too. The guacamole and homemade chips were also top notch. They have homemade lemonade and various other alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Their vibe is chill with reggae music to dine by. You will love this great restaurant. Per my wife - On vacation and had the taste for a burrito bowl. My black beans and rice were both under cooked. I ordered sweet plantains for an extra charge and all I got was slivers! Really good and LARGE burritos. In fact if there is any draw back, the burritos are too big, as you'll want to attack with a knife and fork since you can't eat by hand w/o making a mess.
