We had great service on a Friday for lunch. I had a side taco and beans. My friend had the chimichanga. It tasted more like a burrito with red sauce on it. I couldn't tell that the shell was fried. I wasn't a fan of the salsa. It tasted like it had some vinegar in it, which made it tangy. I liked the thin warm chips. Everything was fresh. Free Street parking is available. Went to Margaritas with a friend who lives in the area and frequents the restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat in the restaurant but noticed a lively bar with football shown on multiple tvs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On a busy Sunday evening, the restaurant only had two servers so was unable to seat all the tables. My friend and I each had margarita. Hers was a classic and mine was black cherry. Tasty drinks with the right amount of alcohol. Get the Mayan shrimp!! So good, even my husband who's not a huge shrimp fan, loved them! Fried pickles were delicious too. My quesadilla was good and hubby enjoyed the skillet enchiladas. I tried a frozen margarita with their raspberry lime infused tequila and that was quite good. Their classic margarita missed the mark for me and actually tasted too salty. Then I had the blood orange margarita which was okay. The drinks definitely need more tequila in them and then I think the flavors would be balanced. After being turned down by a couple of restaurants for it being late on Saturday around 9pm we saw this restaurant down the street, and can hear music playing. I wanted to say real quick because I read a review here that said "I love Hispanic food and this place is not." I totally disagree with this statement and Im from southern California where our Mexican food is amazing and always prestigious. I'm telling you, restaurant knows good Mexican food. Okay, onto the review. The chips they pass out are fresh and crispy and their salsa they give out complementary is way delicious!! My biggest regret the next day is not asking if I could buy a jar of it. For the dinner I had taco salad that had fresh tasty ingredients with this tangy mildly spicy sauce. Also I tried the burger which if I know It's not there specialty but I was so surprised on how great both the burger and fries were. The service here is also so amazing and the waitresses are sweet. 1 Star seems harsh, but how bad could it be, well let me tell you. So I never go into a Mexican restaurant with high expectations any longer. Most have "Taco Bell'd" their food for people who think onion is spicy. So when the chips and salsa are brought to the table and I get some salsa, well it tastes like a Taco Bell packet. So I now know what I am about to expect out of the meal and I generally would not leave a review for this type of establishment, but it only got worse. Let me start by saying the place was packed, both the dining and bar areas were full. I ordered the Prickly Pear Margarita, which was brought to me in a pint glass. As this is a chain and the place was packed, a true Margarita glass would have been greatly appreciated, where is Jon Taffer when you need him? My daughter ordered Tacos Americanos and I ordered the Tios's Super Burrito, while we waited on our food I saw the woman at the table next to me get up to get a set of utensils for her son and a gentleman from another table getup to get some small plates. It seemed that the patrons from the restaurant were all in the service area for one thing or another for their table. What I didn't know at this time was I should have been getting my own food. My daughter's tacos arrived at the table, and then 5 minutes passed and my food has yet to arrive. I'm looking around for my server and she is nowhere to be seen. She finally comes to the table after 10 minutes to check on us, see's I don't have my food, and heads back to the kitchen. She then comes back to the table and apologizes that she had hit "exit" instead of "enter" on my food order and she asked that it be rushed. So I am still waiting and looking around the restaurant and see Freddy Kruger riding in the bus in the mural on the wall, and a Stop Domestic Violence poster on the front windows, which for me that should have been in the restroom, not front and center of the establishment. To me it is tasteless what are they saying, domestic violence is so bad in our community that they need to display it so prominently. So my daughter had stopped eating and I told her to continue, that if my food doesn't arrive by the time she is finished we would leave. So just as she takes her last bite, my steaming hot plate of food arrives. The description on the menu is, "A real gut buster" and what I got was this tiny burrito smothered in cheese, salsa, sour cream, and a disgusting attempt at guacamole. At this point I am hungry, I cut into my dinner to take a bite and burn my tongue. So I can't tell you how it tasted, because I burned my tongue but it probably wouldn't have tasted good anyway because I was already disappointed with my service. As this is a chain and available to me in New Jersey, I won't be going to this or any of their establishments ever again. The sad thing is there don't appear to be any other choices here, so this is probably good for the locals. read more

This place is pure garbage. Chips and salsa...chips were decent but salsa taste exactly like Tostitos, only more sour. Order the Taco Del Mar aka Baja style beer batter fish. More like frozen fish sticks that we used to have in elementary/high school. The tortilla tasted like undercooked tortilla. Package tortilla from a supermarket taste way better than this. No salsa, only some nasty tasting cream. I end up eating half of one and just threw in the towel. My bf ordered 3 enchilada combo. Same tortilla wrapped with cheese, chicken, and beef. The enchilada sauce looked and tasted straight out of a can. I can't say much about the rice & beans. Should have known when we asked what kind of aqua fresca they have. Our server didn't even know what that was. Seriously? A real Mexican restaurant would know what that is. Be forewarn....STAY AWAY from this place!! read more

The review is based on my experience during my Acadia trip during the Memorial Day long weekend. After watching the sunset on the Cadillac mountain, it was quite late.. we were near bar harbor by 8:45 pm and we realized that we have no chance to find a good restaurant there because it was so crowded. I yelped around a bit and found this Margaritas 20min away. I called up to check if they were accepting more people and luckily they had an availability in the bar area. Upon reaching the restaurant, Melissa took the order. She asked good questions, checked if we forgot to order something. When I asked for hot sauce, she mentioned that she has 2 options with different spice levels. She brought both and warned me before trying one of those because it was too hot. I thought that she really loved her job! It was closing time and still she cared for her customers till the last minute. I am not sure about the other staff but I am extremely impressed by her approach towards her work. The food was good. 5 stars for this location! read more

This place was pretty good. I was reluctant to try this place because I had visited the former restaurant The Mex at this location many years ago and it was a ketchup covered pile of garbage. Margaritas is a welcome replacement. We had great blood orange margaritas and variety of entrees that were well portioned and delicious. Our waitress was really good too. As a customer of the former Mexican restaurant at that location, I was pleasantly surprised to see Margarita's, a chain restaurant, take it over. It wasn't a big change in decor, I must say. I had hopes, because I've been to other Margaritas in Maine. The place ended up being very crowded on a Sunday noon. The interior ceilings act as an amplifier for screaming children and loud adults, so don't go expecting an intimate dinner. Our request to sit away from said children in the smaller dining room was refused. We had come early, and so they were filling up the main dining room first. No flexibility there. The chips were fresh and the salsa was decent, if watery. We ordered the enchilada rancheros, and asked for salad instead of rice and beans. This was a non-issue the last time we were here. I was surprised when the dishes came because the enchiladas were quite small. I'm talking six inches long and two inches wide. That's quite a downgrade in size from my previous experiences with the Margs in Augusta and Portland. The waitress brought us salad in side bowls which, it turns out, she charged us for despite our asking for an exchange from the beans and rice. (Why people think adding rice (starch) and beans (starch) with enchiladas makes for a complete dinner is beyond me. I guess it's because they fill up the plate with cheap food.) So we asked for refunds for the extra charge when we got the bill, which entailed going through the manager who wasn't entirely happy with us. But for $12.75 per dish, two short enchiladas and a little bit of salad doesn't seem unreasonable. I miss the Mex. their food was fresh, the dishes were creative. This is just another chain restaurant with a predictable menu. read more

Generally what you'd expect I guess although I thought margaritas was better. I've been to the one in Portsmouth and Concord several times although it was a while ago so maybe things have changed? I have to change my review from 5-star to 2-star. We were going here regularly for a couple years. Usually every two weeks for date night.. The last three visits were horrible. I actually hate going there now. Being over charged was becoming a regular thing. Once they "forgot" to give us our happy hour prices. The second time they charged us for items we didn't order and were meant for another table. It's obvious the place is understaffed but the servers won't make any effort to hide it. They meet you at the table with an annoyed "what do you want?!" and glare until you tell them your order. That's even if a server knows you're there to begin with. We sat one hour during one of these visits with no service at all and flagged down a server just to be told they didn't know we were sat and made us feel like it was our fault. (The hostess sat us. We didn't seat ourselves) The food still seems ok but the experience just stopped being enjoyable. We started going to Jaliscos and highly recommend that spot instead. We tried this place out for the first time for dinner last night and it was delicious!! Our server was very nice and welcoming and the restaurant was decorated well. We ordered pomegranate margaritas which were fantastic and tasted freshly made. We had the Baja Fish Tacos for dinner and they were tasty. Our only complaint is that the food seemed a bit overly salty, but we will definitely be back for great drinks and a good meal for a nice date night. read more

As a longtime patron and fan of The Mex, Margaritas' predecessor, I was rather resistant to the notion of a chain restaurant taking its place. Finally gave it a shot today, and was pleasantly surprised. The queso was superb, chips fresh and delish, guacamole and salsa as well. No one can do coconut shrimp quite like The Mex, so the salad with coco shrimp was adequate. Nothing to write home about, but still fresh. In the fine tradition of The Mex, service was excellent. Native Californian transplant to Maine, grateful to have a Mexican joint down on Main Street, a stone's throw from our home. read more
