Vazquez offers Mexican food in the middle of lobster land. I had the enchiladas which come with beans and rice and that was a tasty combination. Second time coming here. They have a great selection on the menu. Plenty of seating both inside and outside, when the weather is nice definitely find a table outside to enjoy. Ok. I don't what to say except that what used to be a great spot is now just meh. The shining star here is the tortillas which I think are still made in house. I got a chicken quesadilla which only had bland boiled chicken and what tasted like mozzarella cheese. That's it. I forgot to say deluxe which gives you some veggies but really, people? Most places in Maine have to be described as something to the gist of "the closest thing to Mexican food in the area". As someone from Texas that tried Mexican food all over, I'd describe this place specifically as just a great Mexican spot no matter where it would be. After I have had so many lobster rolls I fear I may explode, Vasquez offers a welcomed variety: Mexican, which can be hard to find in this part of the world. Having lived in the Southwest, I can appreciate some good tacos and enchiladas and Vasquez delivered. Both the rice and beans were great and accompanied the enchilada well. The chicken was particular good. What a nice respite from the lobster and seafood in general. My only suggestion is to have friendlier front line order takers. Tasty food and huge portions. Order through the window and pick up from another window. Food is served in composable cardboard container which can get quickly soggy. Flavor is mild but well balanced. You have a choice of a couple of thin salsas to add to the food to spice it up. a "medium" green salsa was perfect for me. Tacos were on soft home made white corn tortillas which were authentic and good. A welcome change from fried fish and lobster rolls in down east Maine. This is the real thing - fresh, handmade, generous, messy, totally addictive. I lived in Mexico for two years and in Tucson for nine - so I know this is the real deal. It takes us two hours to get here and it's worth every minute. On the way we're dreaming of fresh corn tortillas, delicate and soft; spicy chorizo or pulled pork; diced sweet onion and cilantro - not too much of those but just enough. And salsa - as hot or not as you like. Start with nachos, get a sampler of tacos, if you're hungry add a quesadilla or a gordita, and finish up with flan. OMG. read more

The ladies are super accommodating and had lots of smiles..... We had the chicken and cheese enchiladas, red sauce, with rice and beans. A good portion of refried beans, which were tasty. A super portion of rice which was good. The enchiladas had a tiny portion of chicken tucked into a flour tortilla, with tomato, lettuce, sour cream and shredded cheese on top. Unfortunately, having baked the enchiladas w/the sauce, they were dry, and the "extras" hid what would have been top notch. A bit more sauce on top, with less "extra toppings" would have garnered a 5 star!! read more

It was just kind of a meh experience for me. Bottoms fell out of both tacos I got with the daily special, and the steak was greasy with no discernible flavor. Was just a blur of iceberg lettuce, soggy tortilla, bland rice, refried beans and greasy (not juicy) meat... Was expecting more from the reviews than what I got. Maybe it was an off day, who knows? Another not so 5-Star worthy aspect of this takeout experience was when I asked the woman at the counter what she would get, or what she recommended being that it was my first time there. She just said "I don't know. Just pick something to try." Someone representing the restaurant should be able to recommend a popular item if asked by a customer. Might give it another shot. This place is outstanding. You think you're in Maine. You should eat lobster. But noooooo. Eat lobster, but you must add this Mexican to your list. These corn and flour tortillas are some of the best we have had. The pork tamales are fantastic. The tacos, burritos, the Mexican plate, the quesadilla were all outstanding. The salsas are great. We ordered all of that plus an extra side of rice, which was at least 2 cups and the total for 4 people was $40. You can barely do that at a fast food place. I have lived in Los Angeles for the past 20 years, so it's fair to say I am familiar with Mexican food. I've been going to Milbridge for my entire life, so it was really cool to see a family settle down there and open this restaurant. Yeah!!! My mom lives there full time and she loves Mexican food, so we went to this place three times in two weeks (LOL). First and foremost - this place is LEGIT. They make their own flour and corn tortillas and they are AMAZING. 1. Breakfast burritos - although tasty and had plenty of bacon, they were a bit... soggy? Not sure why they were damp. I DID ask for the salsa verde to be put in the burrito so that could have contributed to it. Bless those flour tortillas. 2. Carnitas plate - this is the one to get. I got a steak plate and was fairly disappointed. Mom got carnitas. That's where it is at. 3. They have coca cola products (woo). 4. Outside patio is nice but in summertime, those mosquitoes will attempt to eat you. What else is new, though. 5. Home made horchata. It's pretty decent; a tad sweet for my taste. But no two home made horchatas ever taste the same. Worth trying if you are a horchata fan. Definitely going to go back next time I'm in Milbridge. read more

A friend told us about this place after I mentioned that my wife & I both like cilantro. He said the tacos have a good amount of cilantro on them. He was right. We went one day last week. My wife had tacos that were very good and well loaded with cilantro. I had the "Mexican Plate." It was good , but not served with cilantro . I asked for some and it was quickly provided. The salsa verde they provide is also excellent. I think we ate 4 of the little plastic cups of the stuff. This place used to be a food truck by the side of the road. It is now an extension of their house with a gravel parking lot and a few outdoor tables. We drove an hour or so to get there from Bar Harbor. It was worth the trip. read more

I thought the food was very good, I had the steak tacos and it seemed relatively authentic (I've lived in Houston 5 years and was pleasantly surprised), but they were really rude and they told us the food would be ready in 30 mins and it took 80. It would have been super ok if they had said an hour+ or something, but don't tell us 30 mins when you're packed and it's going to take over an hour. Waited several months for them to open up for the season and drove almost an hour to try them for the first time. Hate to say but it was a massive disappointment. Ordered several items like a chimichanga, taco salad, taco plate, chips & salsa, beans & rice. Everything was bland. And for $12.50 I assumed the taco salad would be a proper taco salad inside a large shell but it was just a plate of really salty tortilla chips. We sat inside and the entire side of our seats had cobwebs between them and the walls. The ladies working were nice so we'll probably try this place again and update this review if the food improves. read more

What a delightful little find in the middle of nowhere! If you find yourself Downeast stop in here for some of the most authentic mexican in Maine! Four adults ate for under $25 and we walked away with full stomachs and leftovers! The tortillas are homemade and the beef is top notch! Busy place with hardworking staff and the food is great. I went here twice in one week since it seems to be one of the only places around that is open daily with consistently good food. Some of the dishes were a bit bland (particularly the chicken options) but overall would recommend the food (especially with their selection of salsas on the side). I was happy, oh so happy. I ended up getting the Quesadilla, but wish they were open on Sunday when I was going to be heading on back home to try the enchiladas. Whenever we go to Maine we plan the long trip around making sure we make it in before Vazquez closes. Vegetarian and gluten free friendly, going there is one the of the highlights of our trip. We also LOVE their breakfast burritos but once we had to stop eating gluten, we called them if they could possibly make us some breakfast gorditas and they were so nice about it and the gorditas were amazing.
