I have been to Bubba Gump's in the US (varying states) and was excited this opened in Canada. I don't live in the city so I had a chance to see some reviews before going. Decided to try it despite reviews citing poor service or too much grease on the meals. Whole family went - no complaints. No wait time, seated quickly. Waitress was attentive, patient, got the order right. Meals were hot, filing, correct. Would I say it's an absolute go to? No, because it is a franchise and is pretty standard fare. The service was a bit slow considering I visited on a Saturday night that was to be expected. However, I ordered the shrimp Mac and cheese and it was overwhelmed with cheese and cream sauce. As well as it took twenty minutes to get a glass of water even when using the signs provided for the waiter to stop at the tables, during the beginning of the meal. Edmontonian here. My mother and I decided to stop by Bubba Gump to try it out for lunch. The mall is always quiet on wednesdays and unfortunately it seems that as a result of lower staffing (which is normal on quiet days), we had nearly seated ourselves before waitstaff attended the front. The waitstaff was quite polite and upbeat, but when our drinks arrived, the coffee had evidently been on the heater all day as evidenced by its very bitter odour and poor taste. Although the coffee was replaced, it became a bit of a highlight of our stay. Despite its much more bearable flavour, it was... pretty low quality grounds. So we figured that maybe coffee isn't their focus. Much to our chagrin when the bill was received, the coffee was priced at 3.75. For significantly less, we could have gone a few hundred feet to the nearby Tim Horton's for much better quality coffee, or gone to the Starbuck's on the floor below for a luxurious coffee at the same price. The menu is quite expensive, the coffee is abysmal, but the food itself is good. The waitstaff also seemed inexperienced, but that can hardly be blamed on them; they afforded fairly good service for being spread thin. I actually saw more staff in the Bubba Gump souvenir shop... Had to wait 3 hours for a table on a Monday night, service was confused and forgot to take a dish they ran out of off of our bill, and the sprite was just flat water. Overall, great experience. Made memories, ate some crab, some shrimp, some garlic cheese bread, and some fries. Our server was kind and relatable, and their birthday song was one of the best restaurant birthday songs I've heard to this day. Food was just OK. Overpriced for what you get. My wife ordered the crab legs and the server Mireille should have advised my wife that the market price for the fish is $40. The crab legs were cold and tasteless served in a crappy pot. When we asked about the price when we got our bill Mireille basically blamed us for not asking when we ordered! (As a server she should advise on any pricing not printed on the menu when specific items are ordered) French fries were dogshit, between the the loud music and other noisy patrons the experience was forgettable The staff are way better trained in the USA and the food is also a step above. We historically LOVE Bubba Gump Shrimp. We have visited 5 different locations in the states and love it. Now, our visit to the West Ed Location was sub par. It felt like their biggest concern was packing customers in like sardines and not customer service. We had no idea who our waiter was. Had to wait very long stretches for service for refills, missing items, etc. the Stop Forest Stop sign was ignored for 15 min at least (twice). We asked a girl for our bill and a to-go box, she left to get it and instead started taking other tables drinks and moving tables and never did get our bill. The poor girl who ended up finishing our service was so confused. This was also the first time in all our visits we had NO Forrest Gump trivia. Which was one of our favorite parts of this restaurant. It was very loud to the point my husband had to take our 2 year old out to the hall in the mall as he was overstimulated and was starting to freak out due to noise. Had two same experiences. I had gone to grand opening and and the wait time wasn't 't too bad. I had gone with friends and our server seemed to have little to no training. It was not busy and we waited 10 minutes for service. Along with that, the server almost spilled water on me. The portions of the food compared to US is smaller with a high price point. Our server also had over charged us as we requested to split the bill and she had calculated the math wrong. She never gave us the receipt with the total and the break down. I went back the second day with family. We ordered their $9 drinks where you can keep the cup. The drinks were filled 3/4 of the way for 2 of them and one of the cups didn't light up. It also too our served 15 mins to come take our order. Along with that the music was so loud that I was not able to hear the server properly. Rather than coming closer to me in order to hear my order we were shouting across the table. When my food came out, it was wrong and one of the servers was telling me it was right when it wasn't. My mom had asked me to try her food and the same server who got my order wrong came out of no where to tell me to stop eatting her food and eat my own food. Terrible! Took my kids while we were shopping at the mall to experience this Restaurant. Stood in line to get my name on the wait list and was told in would be a 55 minute wait. They took my name and number to text when the table was ready. An hour later I went back to find out there were 14 tables ahead of us and it would be another hour of a wait. Spoke to the manager. He wasn't responsive other than stating that they are very busy. He looked frazzled. Staff don't look trained. We ended up at Tony Roma's and enjoyed our meal there since my boys were starving by that point. I received a text from Bubba Gump an hour later stating that my table was ready. The shrimps were really good and the service was okay. One tip is order right away after being seated. In that way, you wouldn't wait another 30-45minutes for your order. The food serving was huge and it was for a reasonable price. I absolutely enjoyed the clam chowder soup. It had a lot of vegetables and clams in it that were evenly cut. Last time, I ordered a starter. I do not remember what it is called, but it has 4 cones of fries and shrimp. The different flavors of the shrimp were fantastic. They were evenly coated, and the coconut shrimp had a nice and rich coconut taste. They also came with sauces, albeit there was not enough sauce. I wish they would have given a bit more.
