We had just arrived at the KOA at Savannah South. They recommended Bubba's Bistro and gave us a card for a free complimentary dessert. So we decided to give it a try. There was outside seating and was dog friendly. There were old cars snd trucks that had tables in them. I had the Tea Brined Chicken and Dave had some fried flounder, shrimp and fries that were a little disappointing. I also ordered a taste of Shrimp and Grits and that was outstanding! The was the BEST meal we had during entire trip visiting Savannah, GA! The Sunday buffet had breakfast and lunch options. All freshly made. We LOVED the onion pie! This was off the hook yummy! Would love to try to make this at home. The baked Brie cheese with brown sugar was EXCELLENT! Never had that anywhere and we did enjoyed it. Fried chicken was not over salted, Mac and cheese had really good flavor and creamy ness. Had a lovely chat with the owner. They do chicken and dumplings during winter months seasonally. Wait staff was great! Met the coook as I had some questions about the veggies made with pork seasoning. Bubba's Bistro is located along US 17 in Richmond Hill, just east of the interchange with Interstate 95 at exit 87. Heading east, it will be on the right side of the road. My visit here was for dinner on August 23, 2022. The outside is no frills, but it is still a solid place. There is a sign you can see from the street on Hwy 17. Once parked, they have an area with their name on the building as well as a bench and some chairs outside. On the sides of the entrance to the door you will find a welcome sign and the hours of operation. We got here around 4:30 pm, so it wasn't too busy at the time. Once you come inside, you can see the bar in front of you. We were immediately seated at a table and the one who seated us was also our server for the visit. She gave us some menus and asked what we wanted to have to drink. For those that drink soda, they have Coke products. My mom got some iced tea while I stuck with water. After taking a little while going back and forth on what to choose on the menu, I ended up going with the Mix and Match Fried Chicken with a Breast and Leg. I got to choose two sides, so I went with the fries and macaroni and cheese. My mom decided to go with the Fried Shrimp with one side, choosing fries as the side. After about five to ten minutes, our orders came to the table. Everything looked good and it was very hot. My mom asked for some cocktail sauce for the shrimp. She brought the cocktail sauce over. My mom said it was hardly a cocktail sauce, but almost just ketchup instead, which she already had for the fries. The Fried Chicken came out as ordered and was also very hot. I did like the fact that it wasn't greasy either. I started on some of the fries first before devouring the chicken so it could cool down a bit. The fried chicken, both the leg and breast were really good. The fries were hot too and were just the way I would like my fries. The macaroni and cheese was also very good. By the time we were done, we were both full. We had talked about maybe doing a dessert afterwards, but we were both too full to do one. Overall, this was a very good experience. The server was attentive and on point, especially with the multiple water refills. The food was very good too. This is a solid place to come and get some good southern comfort food in the area. The pricing was good compared to the size of the food as well. If you're in the area, this place is worth trying out. read more

This place was such a delightful experience. We had a party of 8 and everyone liked their food - which with 4 kids is tough! The food was delicious - I had the fried green tomato BLT. It's definitely not a place to go for a light meal, but my tummy is still very happy. My favourite part of our visit, though, was the outdoor seating area. Our order was done very quickly and I couldn't wait to get home and dig in. At first glance, the food looked very appetizing. But, I've been fooled before! So, I was skeptical. I went for the Mac & cheese first. (I always try the Mac first! It sets the tone for the meal!) My Lordt! The Mac was excellent! The chicken was well seasoned and crispy! And the collards... seasoned to perfection and absolutely delicious. I devoured the entire plate! My husband and I exchanged goody glances, marveling at how delicious the food was. The picture I took of my meal doesn't do it the proper justice. I will definitely visit this establishment again as this was THE BEST should food I've had since I've been in Savannah! The food was all very good - we had two appetizers - spinach mushroom dip and fried green tomatoes. For our lunch we had a variety of brisket wraps, crab cake sandwich, and one of their burgers - no complaints around the table. Dessert choices were limited but the choices made were spectacular - fried moon pie with ice cream, and the lightest banana cheesecake you will ever come across - just wow. Honestly, their signature dessert should be the moon pie as it is a nice twist to the quintessential southern fave. If you're ever in Richmond Hill and driving on US17, near I-95, make the stop. This place is large. There is also outdoor seating. The decor is southern style. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by two very sweet young ladies. Our server Drake was outstanding. Extremely attentive, always making sure we were good. I got the white meat fried chicken with a side of collard greens and mashed potatoes and gravy. Chicken was crispy on the outside and so moist on the inside. Mashed potatoes and gravy were good, the collard greens were great with I think pieces of ham in them. My husband had fried shrimp with cocktail sauce and a side salad and balsamic dressing. Salad was very good and fresh. Shrimp was perfect. Also this restaurant was very reasonably priced. The only negative for me was the two sides could have been a little warmer but I was completely fine cause I would rather not have anything microwaved. Had not been to the bistro other than a couple (very high $) holiday buffets. Decided to drop in on a week night and sample the menu. My thoughts- I had the hamburger steak meal. $14.95 I believe. Two dried out med sized patties. One, and I mean only one, small scoop of mashed potatoes. Minimal gravy. My side was fried okra. Probably 18 pieces of okra. I'd say a 5 out of 10 I did order a side of collards and they were very good. 9-10 due to, again, small portions. Daughter had a burger and sweet potato fries. She said burger was great. The sweet potato fries ($2 up charge) were "eh". I tried a few like and good dad would do and agree...eh. Not hot. Tepid. $35 plus tip. Server was sweet. Very few folks in there and took 20 min to get food. I'd have to say we probably won't be back. Sad too, because when the Shores owned it the food was ample and hot and tasty. I have enjoyed eating here most of the time but I would not go an hour before they close because they didn't replenish the food and they were actually starting to put food away 30 mins to closing. We got there a little after 1:00 and the restaurant closes at 2:00. The buffet was basically empty-just dregs in the bottom of the pans and not very appealing. They didn't refill much while we were there. What I tried was fair to good. The collard greens and butter beans were very good. The fried chicken was well seasoned if a little greasy but no complaints about it really. Chocolate cake looked good but was extremely dry. Pudding was sitting out at room temperature so a no for me. I wanted some Southern comfort food before leaving Savannah and lunch at Bubba's Bistro fit the bill! Tucked away in a strip mall, it's easy to miss but worth the find. Lucky for me, it was Wednesday when the fried pork chop plate with collards and mac and cheese was the special! If this is available, I couldn't suggest it more. The fried pork chop was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The mac and cheese wasn't super gooey or creamy, but I couldn't resist eating every last bite. I'm actually a big fan of collards and enjoyed these too. They had a Yelp check-in offer for fried okra (Southern popcorn), so we got that! It was a generous serving and the spicy ranch dipping sauce was addicting. Even if that special isn't available, the menu is pretty vast for a lunch only place. There are sandwiches, salads, flatbreads, and sides that all sound delicious. They're only open for lunch Monday through Friday until 3:00 pm, and do a brunch buffet on Sunday from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. I'd definitely love to come back to check that out! read more
