I ordered the combo 3 with grilled tail on white shrimp, fried catfish and deviled crab with coleslaw and French fries. We got our food and checked it out. Looked good and fresh. His chicken sandwich you could tell was a fresh chicken breast not too thick or breading and decent seasoning. The fries are thicker crinkle cut and were good. My plate came and the shrimp were definitely seasoned I'm pretty sure blackened but that was great I love that flavor. I was disappointed thinking I was just gonna get boring grilled shrimp. My car fish was flaky and delicious. The Cole slaw was ok tasted homemade. The star for me on my plate was the deviled crab. I thought the crab taste was delicious and it actually tasted homemade and I hope it was! If I was passing by again and craving seafood I would make a purposeful trip to stop! I was born and raised in Savannah GA and I always visited the Skidaway location. I've always got seafood from the restaurant. Like 2 or 3 years ago I was back in town with family after a funeral dining in and I realized the expansive menu because a lot of times prior I used to pull up get my food and go. This location has a lot of business because of the location and the site says award winning. So I was trying to find a spot to grab lunch with my parent before I got on my flight. Decided on this spot because it has Salmon for my dad and it was close to the airport. We got in and the place felt a little dated. We were quickly seated and got some waters(no alcohol served). We ordered and the food eventually came out. My ribs were okay, but nothing mind blowing and a baked potato is a baked potato. My stepmom had the fish sandwich and was a bit dumbfounded that it had bacon on it even though bacon wasn't listed as an item on the menu. My dad had the Salmon and baked potato which came with greens and once again there was bacon and again not listed on the menu. Since he doesn't eat meat, it was a bit worry some for him as there might be meat cooked into the dishes. We quickly ate and moved on and I can say this might be a one and done. read more

I've been to Carey Hilliard's several times and every time I have the best experience here. This is one of my favorite Savannah restaurants, they have reasonable prices in everything. My favorite is their fried chicken which takes about thirty five minutes to prepare after ordering it. With those type of preparations you know it's gonna be delicious. The fried chicken is so crunchy and flavorful, they get it right every time. I had Mac and cheese which was good as well. I also like the green beans My favorite is the cheddar bake which is the baked potato topped with cheese, cheese and more cheese. I also enjoy the ribs which is on the appetizer menu. STEW was an amazing server all the other servers in the past were great as well. Whenever I'm in the area this is where I'll be. read more

Everything was fantastic! We used to have a Karie Hilliard's in Charleston, South Carolina and I'm so sad that they aren't there any longer! This was my husband's first time trying them and he agrees, they should come back to Charleston! Someone wanted a dinner someone wanted at lunch someone had breakfast and we were all able to get exactly what we wanted! Everything was cooked perfectly. Even though it was extremely busy with a line out the door, our waitress did a fantastic job keeping up with us. It's like you were eating in a family members kitchen and dining room. Just pulled into the Savannah GA location and crab stew was ordered ceasarsalad and a regular side salad.a kids cheese burger meal,catfish and shrimp, flounder and catfish and chicken strips All with assortment of sides such as Mac and cheese, fries,coleslaw green beans The crab stew just ok had alot of crab yet lacked flavor and substance in the base. Chicken stripe were exceptional and the fried catfish was delicious. Food and service were nothing to write home about. Prices were pretty good and serving size was good. Brunswick stew was mushy but had a really good taste. The food was tasty enough for the price. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit them though so it's good that they are conveniently located right off I-95. So if you're on a budget, this would be a good place to stop. This was my first time here. The reddish was amazing but it took extremely long to come out. I waited about 30 mins while the rest of my party received their food. After driving nine hours, we appeared for a late lunch at 3 PM yesterday. The weight staff was beyond belief. They accommodated us in every way possible and the servings were so great. We took half home each and had them the following day. The food, especially the very large salmon salad as well as my 1/2 pound of pork. We're more than satisfying and delicious. The manger offered to replace the fries, I chose onion rings. The onion rings were delicious. Dine in just after 12 noon on a Monday. We were seated fairly quickly. I absolutely love this place. You get a variety of things to choose from. Very nice staff! I mostly order takeout because I am always on the go. But when I do have time to sit the place is really clean and welcoming. My go to is always the salads. The house made caesar dressing is soo good. This is a solid old school southern restaurant and fish house serving up some damn good / great fried chicken and fried seafood platters. I can see how this place may not suit everyone's tastes; but hey, it is what it is. It reminds me of times way back when; in the day when I'd go to places just like this in Florida (with my parents and grandparents). We always ordered a ton of food because we couldn't decide what we wanted. My dad (or grandad) would always say, "whatever we don't finish we can get it to go; & take it back to the hotel and eat it later." He was always right in that regard. Whatever it was we boxed up & had taken back to the room; it'd get reheated later on and scarfed up late right after a night of vacation fun filled activities. So perhaps it's a nostalgia thing. I don't know...Whatever the appeal is (or was) I am not certain. I do love the ambience, service and food quality;seems to be from a bygone era that I dearly miss. We had lunch there today! Everything was just perfect. I especially like our waitress today--a super nice lady who was well put together and talked with such a soft, gentle, pleasant Southern accent. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed her service and feel she's exactly the type of servers a classic restaurant needs. I wish I got her name. We sat in the back booth facing the kitchen--we had Coke, BBQ ribs and baked fried wings. Anyway, thank you! P.S. The lady who ran the cashier today is absolutely pleasant too! The place kind of reminds me of an off the strip seafood restaurant you find in Vegas. The service was awesome. Staff were attentive and friendly. I liked the hush puppies and grilled shrimp, but the fried food choices left a lot to be desired. I had the founder fillet which wasn't done to golden brown. Today 3/7/25 at approximately 4PM, my wife and I wanted a nice meal that included seafood, and it seemed as though Carey Hilliard's Restaurant, a short distance from our hotel, may be our best choice. We arrived, were taken to our booth, and we placed our orders. We made it simple. We ordered one cup of Brunswick Stew and two combo seafood plates, both with grilled flounder and fried oysters. The Brunswick stew arrived, which is a local Georgia speciality. I must say it was definitely subpar. Our entrée orders arrived, and the grilled flounder was heavily coated with Old Bay seasoning and cold. The baked potato was not hot enough to melt butter, but the oysters took the prize. They were globbed together with batter and partially cooked. It was basically unfit for consumption. We told the server, and she went to get the manager. We explained to the manager that the meal was unsatisfactory, the oysters were not edible and we would just pay our bill and go. The manager left without saying anything, so we wondered what was to be the outcome. I found the server and she approached me with a bill. I found the manager and asked what I was paying for, and she told me that it was for half of the order. It seemed strange that I would have to pay for a meal that was one, partially unfit for consumption, and overall, poorly prepared.
