    Beignets

Brought my son here for a little brunch, we got seated right away by the window seat which was super nice to be able to look out onto the river. My son fell in love with Beignets that day. I had the shrimp and grits, which weren't super amazing but the flavor was good and I really enjoyed the Parmesan they put in it. It needed some salt or something, the flavoring of the gravy the shrimp was served with just didn't really stand out in the dish. But I do love Huey's and will always come back, service is always great, and the fried green tomatoes are some of the best!!

Chose to eat here mainly for the view, you can have a beautiful river view while you eat! I ordered eggs Benedict which was pretty good. The English muffins were a bit overcooked and one of the egg yolks was cooked all the way through, but besides that it was delicious. Considering the location, prices weren't bad. Service was really good as well. I'd come back and try their lunch/dinner!

Friendly and packed full of flavor, Huey's on The River doesn't hold back. With views of the river and a cool air conditioned dining room, this restaurant offers a wonderful experience on a hot day. Everything was flavorful and cooked well. The staff are all friendly and engaging. A great spot for lunch when visiting river st.

Good Creole/Cajun food on the riverwalk in Savannah! It is not fancy and it is moderately priced, all of which is a plus. Service is so-so, and food quality ranges! Corn bread which is complimentary is hard to eat. Simply put it falls apart and you find yourself scooping it with spoon! Grilled chicken sandwich is drowned in mayo in a bread that is stale. Gumbo is really good. The only downside is that they put little gumbo in a bowl and a lot of rice. Muffuletta sandwich was just awesome and we loved it!!! It was so good - I would say it's the best thing on the menu!

The vibe and views were beautiful, and the service was good overall, except for the maître d' who took a minute to come back?? maybe she was on a break. I mainly came in because I saw a couple outside enjoying a beignet, and since I was in Louisiana just a month ago, I was definitely craving them. They were nice and hot when we got them, but unfortunately, they didn't allow the dough to rise properly, so the inside was quite dense rather than fluffy. Still, I'd give it a B+ for effort.

God no. I would not try anything from here again after having their shrimp poboy. The bread was cold, not soft, and there was barely any shrimp!! Not at all New Orleans style, nothing close. It was a sad sad sandwich. We did also get the cheesy grits which my husband approved. Hope others have had better experience with their menu items.

In town for a girls trip and we wanted to eat near the river, this place came up on our search. Cool atmosphere with the open windows and live music upstairs. We ordered Jazzy Wings, the Herb Grilled Salmon, the Fried Green Tomato Muffuletta, the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and the beignets. The beignets came out first and they were amazing! The rest of the food, not sooo much. We had two orders of salmon at our table and both were not fully cooked. Let's just say no one in our party of 6 cleared their plates. Except for the beignet plate, that plate was practically licked clean!

Huey's didn't have a large selection of food, but they do have something for everyone, I personally tried the shrimp étouffée and thought it was pretty good. The seasoning was just right and not underwhelming or overpowering. They also bring out cornbread before the meal that is moist and melts in your mouth. The service was good. We didn't have to wait to sit for a party of 5. We did arrive around 7pm. The ambiance was casual and welcoming. I'll definitely give it another try when I'm back in the area.

    A dozen Beignets!

I was in town for several days with my parents as a pre-holiday vacation and my parents who have visited Savannah previously said we had to stop by Huey's to get the Beignets! I'm all for fried dough and powdered sugar! :) Huey's is right on the river and the front of the store is just windows so you can see the big ships when they come by. It was a bit stuffy in there and noticed the fans were not on. Our server was very nice and attentive and was able to get them on and cool us off quickly. We went around lunch time but me and dad were still kinda full from breakfast. And frankly, I was there for one thing...the beignets! We ordered a dozen because even though they are best hot and fresh we wanted some leftovers. They were amazing! My dad got the caramel praline cheesecake and it was not a small slice! Mom was hungry and got the fried oyster po'boy which she really enjoyed and I just got a plate of hot fries to share. Even though we didn't have a huge lunch our server was great and really made our visit special. If I ever get back to Savannah I'll be back to Huey's and you should check them out!

This is a popular spot in Savannah on River street overlooking the river facing the convention center. Known for great Beignets, jambalaya and Louisiana soul food serving breakfast, lunch , and dinner. Our server was great and everyone enjoyed their meal.

"World Famous Beignets". They were good but not amazing, I've had better.
    Joel B.

Seafood Pasta was ok. Needed salt; lacked flavor. Came here for the "world famous Beignets" and honestly they were above average, but I've had much better in Washington state. I figured I'd find better ones in Savannah.

Crawfish etoufee and red beans and rice

Huey's on the River is a fantastic choice if you are in Savannah, Georgia. The restaurant is in an old cotton gin and the ambiance definitely added to my overall experience. My server was top notch and offered stellar service. I went with the crawfish etoufee and red beans and rice. Both were excellent. This was overall a great experience and I would definitely recommend here.

Huey's on the River is a long termed restaurant in Savannah. I have been coming to Savannah for more than 30 years for both business & pleasure and make time to visit Huey's while here. Today's visit is with friends from Atlanta and as always the food was very good. I had the seafood omelette which was cooked perfectly (no burnt egg) and loaded with seafood (shrimp shredded crab & scallops). My wife had Eggs Sardou (poached eggs) with the potatoes casserole (potatoes, cheese & spices). Our friends had the Eggs Blackstone & Eggs Benedict, both of which looked good and from what our friends said was excellent! But, before you start the meal you must have beignets. Huey's version is very good with the dough cooked spot on and of course more powdered sugar than you need but still consume. Finally, the restaurant has very good service and the decor is comfortable. If visiting the Savannah area put this on your list. You may also catch Hollywood in town as we did as they were prepping River St. for a shoot of a future episode of Tulsa Kings!

They do serve fried green tomatoes which are yummy. They are served with a remoulade, but just don't get that. Does that help. They also have beignets. Lots of fish. Not lots of vegan options, but soo good!

To share amongst the table, we ordered the cinnamon toast banane and crispy gouda grit croquettes. Thumbs up on both, particularly the croquettes which were the right balance of gooey and structured enough to eat with the delicious sauce on the side. The cinnamon toast banane was not so much toast as cinnamon rolls with bananas foster; the cinnamon rolls were really tasty and the bananas foster was good, though the bourbon flavor was strong. For my entree, I ordered one of the lighter vegetarian dishes - the mushroom tartine with tomato soup. I think it is one of the lighter dishes - certainly lighter than what my dining companions ordered - but it was still quite rich with a fair amount of gouda fondue in the tomato bisque soup. The mushroom tartine/sandwich was really flavorful with the pesto, cheese and tons of mushrooms. The restaurant is quite large with an upstairs seating area.

I got their chicken sandwich, while the rest of my family got the Dubai chocolate French toast, Bubble and squeak. My grilled chicken sandwich had a vast majority of flavors varying in the sandwich. I also got their iced matcha latte with lavender syrup, which I was heavily surprised from how flavorful and sugary it was, I highly recommend this drink to any matcha lovers out there. The Dubai chocolate French toast was beautifully put together and delicious, shared across my family. From what I heard the bubble and squeak was amazing and was not too heavy or dull in flavor and is a great vegetarian option. I was debating between the Fried green tomato BLT or the Caprese Grilled cheese then our server Kristin suggested the mussels and that is what I ended up with and I am so glad I did. These were absolutely the best mussels I've ever had. The sauce was not the traditional garlic/shallot wine sauce but had more tomato and basil reminiscent of warm bruschetta. I had to borrow my husbands spoon to get every bit of that sauce after I finished my mussels. My husband had the famous shrimp and grits which he absolutely loved. He noted it wasn't overpowered with sausage like most other restaurants do but had a perfect balance of flavor. My mom got the lamb burger and also loved every bite. She loved lamb so as soon as she saw that she had no doubt what she was going to order. Both my husband and mom loved every bite. I can see why The Public Kitchen is so popular. The restaurant has some indoor and outdoor seating with a mix of tables and banquets along the walls. It was comfortable without being too crowded. Thankfully, Vic's on the River was nice enough to direct us to the right spot. We arrived at VRG about 15 mins early and were told that we would have to wait/come back at our reservation time. There's a little novelty shop with clothing and items that you can peruse right next door. Finally it was our reservation time and we were led into the restaurant. We were told that the building is historic so there have not been many upgrades or changes, but the decor is really nice. The lights are low so this is a good date night spot. For appetizers we ordered the crab cakes and crab beignets. I will tell you that the most amazing thing on the menu are the crab beignets!!!! Ahhhh....they were firm but soft and the filling filled your mouth with amazing goodness!! THEY ARE, WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE BEST THING ON THE MENU! For the entree, Kelly let us know what the specials were. I had the steak with crab on top with a side of mashed potatoes (it comes with asparagus as well but I'm not a fan so I got double mash). The steak was nice, more medium rare than medium, but my daughter's pasta with artichoke hearts was inedible. She has to take the artichokes out of the pasta and place it on the side. The shrimp and grits were great as well. The drinks were okay. Lemon Drop Martini was great! A woman in my group got the Expresso Martini with a side of Bailey's. After receiving it she asked if there was Bailey's in the drink because the drink was dark. She asked twice and it never came so a person in our party had to get up and get the Bailey's because our server forgot to pick it up from the bar. In the end, I would go to VRG just for the out of this world crab beignets!
