So cool that this place is at SanTan Mall now! What a great addition to have to enjoy some awesome boba drinks!!! The menu is limited to the normal stuff you'll find at Asian boba places, but there are still some really delicious drinks to choose from. I always get the Taro slush drink, I think it's called "King Taro" or something like that and I get it with their infamous white boba. I like it a lot more, kinda reminds me more of the tapioca vanilla flavor you get. Yooo and I'm not trying to be racist or anything, but Fat Straw caters more toward the "white" crowd, meaning they name their drinks cool names, and have flavors that usually are not seen at let's say "Boba Tea House" or "Lee's Sandwiches". I get it, it's popular amongst the younger crowd and stuff but I am limited to the kinds of exotic flavors I usually want, but I totally get it! Also, man the fat cups are super cute, definitely annoying to try and put in your cup holder when you get to your car, but so cool! Our first time coming here and last. We came in to check it out and they have a lot of options so we were looking over the menu for a while before finally deciding. No one else was in the store, we weren't in anyone's way. The girl taking our order named either Nellie, or Mellie seemed angry to adjust a part of the order and was snippy and rude. Mediocre. After searching for boba spots in the area, we found Fat Straw, located in the huge, beautiful San Tan Mall and decided to give it a try. After seeing pretty good reviews and that they serve their drinks in fat cups like Purple Kow/Half-and-Half and we decided to give it a try. Each drink has a custom menu name and has a description of what is inside. They also have 2 "fat cup" sizes - fat cup and baby fat. I ordered the "matchacha" which is a match milk tea made with coconut milk and honey boba and bf ordered a mango tea made with green mango and mango popping boba - he substituted the popping boba for honey boba. The matcha was overly milky and had no matcha flavor while the mango tea tasted too syrupy, borderline cough syrup flavor. The pearls were disappointing as they didn't have honey flavor and a gross over-cooked texture that basically crumbled in your mouth. We were so disappointed in our drinks. I don't think I can be too critical of milk tea places back home after having this experience with Fat Straw. read more

I always love a good boba milk tea place and Fat Straw was definitely not the same cookie cutter place. It has definitely gotten a trendier look and design. Sadly while the service was fast, the boba milk tea left a lot to be desired. It was neither sweet enough (pretty tasteless), and the panda boba as they called it was undercooked. I think they also give you just enough to generally cover the bottom of their insanely wide cups (which didn't fit my car's cup holder argh). Not a fan of this spot. Not authentic to any bubble tea I've ever had unfortunately. Came into the shop today and workers weren't in masks, customers weren't in masks, nor are anyone in this area :/ it did make me feel uncomfortable knowing the workers aren't wearing it. The branding and shop was cute and how they played the theme throughout the store and on their products. I got the Love Story and The Original, and was not surprised we didn't like this place. The original tasted not bad but the tapioca balls were hard! The love story drink was waaay too sweet and they didn't allow us to adjust the sweetness. It tasted like syrup with popping boba.. eek. I am more of a fan of real fruit drinks and even more of a fan of chewy, soft boba. I stopped in at Fat Straw while walking around San Tan Village. It's normally really busy so I jumped at the chance when I saw only a couple of people already in line. I got the Baby Fat Enchanted Tea with Vanilla Boba. I've never had Vanilla Boba before but it was good! .. Apparently they're one of the only stores that have it! This is not your typical, Asian boba joint, but for being in Gilbert, AZ it certainly counts! If you like drinks that aren't overly sweet or too fruity and like the hint of tea, I suggest getting ICE AGE with HONEY BOBA. Seriously the most refreshing drink. And the cups remind me of the well known Half&Half boba in LA. The staff is also insanely friendly! I've been here far too many times since they've opened. It's so dangerous lol. I know good boba shops, I lived in California practically my whole life so I KNOW good boba/tea. Now, usually good boba tea shops are owned by Asians -- not being racist, but they got the flavor profiles and textures down right statistically. I have a feeling this is definitely a local American run company. It's located in the San Tan Mall across Forever 21 near the Harkins Theater. The design is like a beehive: black and yellow color themed and honey comb designs. The reason for that is because they carry honey boba, which is really delicious. Boba is a chewy tapioca pearl that is offered to be included in the bottom of your drink, among many other toppings (jelly/fruit/poppers). Boba is very hard to control quality wise for a business because you have to cook it just right for the chewiness and let it sit in a honey/sugar syrup BUT not for too long or it'll start to break down. The menu may be confusing to some, but just ask the girls for suggestions. Go on Facebook ahead to look at their menu. Never tried any of their drink toppings? Ask for a sample. I've tried a couple of their drinks, and I have a few suggestions. For the blended drinks, try not to add too much ice or it becomes too chunky and not as creamy as a blended drink should feel. For example, the tropical island blended drink: the flavor profile Was very good: not too sweet, but too much ice killed the drink because it became more of a slush. I waited for the drink to thaw a bit and liquify and it was definitely a lot better with most of the ice out of the way. Thai iced tea for me is a hit or miss: I usually use that drink to tell whether a boba place is legit or not. It was good, the ratio between tea and cream was perfect. My only gripe was I ordered a large size and paid over $5.00 but didn't get it filled to the top. Boba was perfect consistency though. Customer service was great, there wasn't much to say except that I felt bad for the three girls who were working. It was super busy and I felt they could have used an extra hand or something to not feel as overwhelmed. They were super nice and took the time to say "welcome to fat straw!" Every time someone came in the door. Poor girls were working super hard to get everyone's drinks out in a timely manner while trying to take orders and answer questions. The packaging of the drinks is a bit funny. The diameter of the drink cups are as wide as a donut, how am I supposed to put my drinks in the cipher of my car? All in all, it's not really a bad boba tea shop. A bit pricey but a good place to chill (free wifi) and have a sip of something cold on a hot summers day. read more

So I always used to kinda talk smack about people who were into Bubble Tea because of all the weeaboo culture and high pitched annoying teenagers at the mall who always take up half the hall standing in line. Flavors were awesome with a good taste without being overpowered by sweetness, like most places. Related, they really do a great job with their boba pearls-- perfectly cooked, not hard nor falling apart, and not overly sweet due to soaking in sugar. So disappointed with Bubble Bee yesterday. After driving 40 mins to get boba, I ended up when a drink that was 3/4 ice, with little boba. I didn't have enough time to wait to another drink to be made, I called them after I had started driving and saw the drink was basically ice, the response was "we were too busy so we probably didn't pay attention." Finally a boba place in the Gilbert area. It's located at the San Tan mall making it convenient to grab when shopping. My go-to drink is South Beach with popping boba, it's fruity and refreshing. Chai Tea and Taro isn't bad either. Their drinks have two sizes: fat and baby fat (aka big and small). They recently introduced snow and I decided to try it with a friend. We got Taro and Cookie Monster (see photos). I was disappointed because of the lack of flavor, especially in the cookie monster. It was overpriced as well, being nearly $6 for the baby fat size. Super Americanized Boba Tea joint. I appreciate the blended drink options. My husband got the Almond Vanilla Blended and it was delish. I got the Mactacha Iced Milk Tea, it had the authentic Matcha Milk Tea flavor but was a bit on the weak side whereas my husband's was full flavor. The Boba was prepared well. They call their Boba "Honey Boba" it's just regular Boba prepared the way Boba is for Milk Tea, I assume they describe it this way for the novice Boba Tea drinkers. Delicious drinks. High Thai and matcha are my two favorite. The honey boba tastes incredibly fresh and yummy. Hubby loves the king taro. Says it's the best coconut taro out of all the bubble tea places we've been to. My only complaint is that there never seems to be enough workers during busy times so the wait can be long. read more
