This bubble tea place is pretty good especially for the ones in the area. I went with my go-to, the green milk tea at 50% sweetness. The tapioca bubbles were a good consistency, chewy and tender. The tea was tasty without being overbearing. The prices were reasonable and the staff seemed nice. Definitely want to try more drinks in the future. I like how large the place is so you can spend time hanging out with friends, drinking bubble tea. As it's basically walking distance from me, I've been here countless times, often with coworkers discussing my professional struggles and my future, and even with people I thought would be prospective dates, that never ended up that way. Its sentimental value to me is difficult to replicate anywhere else in town, even at its direct competitor Hello Tealicious. While I'd probably say that place is slightly superior, Bubble Island's taro smoothie is spectacular and I always top it with lychee boba to sweeten what is normally not a sweet ingredient. The prices are very fair and the interior a quiet oceanic green, and there are plenty of card and board games to play by the wall. This place is AMAZING! My wife and I come here at least once a week. I usually get a strawberry smoothie with tapioca. My wife usually gets Thai Tea. Their tapioca is big and absorbs flavor well unlike some of the other Teahouses in the area which have shriveled little tapiocas that have no flavor. I would recommend this place as the #1 Bubble Tea this side of Houston. I just wish they stayed open later! read more

Went here as an alternative because The Teahouse Tapioca was temporarily shut down. This place is FANTASTIC! Plenty of teas and coffees to choose from and at a much more decent price than The Teahouse, plus the drinks are delicious. In the photo is honey green milk tea with lychee and mango boba and the coffee is a cappuccino coffee with added hazelnut and normal boba. Both are delicious. Service is wonderful also. This place made me SCARED to even attempt to order Bubble Tea goodness on my trips to Houston. As a transplanted Houstonian, stuck in the Big Haired Shiney Shoe land of Collin County (aka, Plano)... I have become addicted to bubble tea. I have heard Oprah and Dr. Oz talk about transferable addictions... and mine went from Starbucks and Snow Cones to Taro Milk Tea with Tapioca Pearls. Last time I came home to Houston for a visit, I had actually succeeded in talking my best friend into trying a bubble tea. BUT, we made the mistake and came here. She ordered a Coconut Milk Tea and I ordered Taro. First they wanted to use Non-Dairy Creamer instead of Milk, um EWWWW... and then they must have been on Crack because when they put our two drinks on the counter and called out our order I was suprised. BOTH drinks were the color of my childhood bathtub water on the East Side of Town (NorthShore/Channelview) when the Ship Channel would turn over. Ah, the memories of Rusty Baths. Where was my purplely goodness? No-where to be found. Simply put, it was NASTY! and the Pearls were rubbery. I was actually scared to order Bubble Tea in Houston on my most recent trip. After posting a Request for Help on Yelp, I was given a lot of suggestions, but never really found myself even remotely near that side of town. But, my cravings won over and we decided to try the place across the street. The guy behind the counter looked at me funny when I asked if their Taro was purple. I just had to inform him about the disaster that is Taro within eyeshot across Bay Area Blvd. If you want GOOD Bubble Tea... go across the street. I don't know how things turned out so badly for some of the other folks that visited, but for me, Bubble Island has been consistently nice to visit. I've liked their milk tea and smoothies; I got characteristically purple Taro when I ordered it. The almond milk smoothie is one of my favorites. I think the boba are alright, but I tend to love putting lychee jelly in the bottom of my bubble tea. Try it sometime! There are several jelly options as well as the tapioca boba to put in the bottom of your tea. Bubble Island's highlight for me has got to be their fabulous shaved ice. I am a HUGE shaved ice/snow cone aficionado. I might even write a monograph on it. I am for serious. These guys do a GREAT job with the shaved ice. You can choose from a couple dozen different toppings, and of course, finish it off with sweetened condensed milk, or fresh fruit and ice cream. I think I ate at least 6 of these delicious things over the summer. They're my new addiction, and they've been fun to eat every time. Be sure to try it with the Amy's mango ice cream on top of fresh strawberries! Plus, it's a good place to hang out. In the golden days of Bubble Island (about 5-7 years ago), this place would've easily earned a 5 star rating from me on account of how delicious the drinks and snack offerings were. We used to come here almost every other day, order our bubble tea or slush or whatever, maybe splurge on some delicious coconut butter toast, and pass the time just hanging out or playing the games BI keeps on hand. Unfortunately, BI has changed management several times since the original owners sold, and it just hasn't been the same ever again. The ingredients were changed, the recipes were changed, the prices were changed, etc. They seem to continue to change. The games are still there. The decor hasn't seem to change TOO much. But nowadays, you won't catch me stepping foot in here. Now before I get into my rant, let me clarify one thing. I continue to hear from friends who still go, from my sister who goes after school at the nearby CLHS with her friends, and from a friend who once worked here during the golden days - the milk tea is still good. I've never had it myself, but it seems the milk tea (the plain, regular ol' milk tea) has managed to stay fantastic. It's everything else on the menu that's the problem. In Clear Lake, the options for bubble tea and milk tea are veeeery limited, so I get the feeling that Bubble Island thinks they can get away with serving what they call "bubble tea" and "tapioca" because most people won't know better. And sadly, they're right. This is just personal opinion, but I feel like those who rave about BI's drinks just don't realize that this is NOT legit bubble tea. This is sugary-flavored-syrup-icy bullcrap. Go down to Tapioca House (aka Tap House) on Bellaire Blvd and get a drink there, THEN see what you think about Bubble Island's nonsense. But as I said, Clear Lake has very few options for bubble tea, so BI is probably going to continue getting frequent business. Sigh. Not only does the change in the drink quality disappoint me, but the increase in price is just ridiculous. The economy may suck way more than it did 7 years ago, but good lord how on earth is it possible that BI gets away with selling their INFERIOR drinks of today at a HIGHER price than they did way back when everything was delish?? I'm astounded, really. To summarize: if you want bubble tea in Clear Lake, this is probably only one of about two places you could go to. I'd rather go through bubble tea withdrawal then get BI's "bubble tea". You might get something resembling bubble tea, but if you know better, you won't believe for a second that their flavored icy crap is the real deal. read more

I had a craving for tapioca the other day while I was out running errands and did a feverish search on my Yelp app to find a place nearby. Luckily, Bubble Island was on the list and only a turn away from my previous stop. The place is easy to miss, merely by size alone. It's a small shop in a large shopping center, but I managed to find it. Inside it's pretty plain Jane, but the man behind the counter was standing ready to take my order. The menu is pretty extensive and had me in a "what shall I get" state of mind. After asking a few questions about the best option for an iced coffee not overloaded with sugar I settled on a Caramel Iced Coffee with tapioca. In a mere 2-3 minutes my drink was ready and I was out the door. I may have stayed longer but the only other patrons were some tweens gossiping and I just didn't feel like hearing the drama. My drink turned out just how I wanted...caffienated, creamy, and slightly sweet with tapioca! It brought back so many memories of my high school days when my best friend and I would drive all the way to the Southwest side from the East side just to get tapioca drinks. I sipped on my drink for quite a while...as the large costs only a mere $3.88! You can't beat that Starbucks! I was pleasantly pleased with this little homegrown establishment and the next time I'm in the Clear Lake area I'll definitely stop in again. read more

There's only two places I know of in Clear Lake where you can get Bubble/Tapioca teas and this one is so much better than the other one that it shall remain nameless (and unreviewed by me). The inside is a little dumpy with some cheesy posters adorning the walls and cheap Ikea furniture filling up the place but the menu is quite large with lots of coffee, tea, smoothie, and bubble choices. There's also a shelf with some board games and free Wi-Fi which is always nice. The staff is usually pretty helpful and Bubble Island provides a punch card so that after your tenth purchase you get a drink on them. My favorite drink is the Honey Milk Tea (I usually substitute soy milk) with almond pudding. The almond pudding really compliments the milk tea and the honey makes it just sweet enough. I actually like to add a little cinnamon to my honey milk tea but I was told by a staff member that the cinnamon "doesn't mix well" so I just add a little myself through the massive straw hole and all becomes right in the world. read more

It's really good, and there are so many choices that I'm probably gonna go back and try something new for awhile! It might be a little sweet for others, but I have a sweet tooth so I can handle almost anything. Yes, it is very quiet, but maybe if someone mentioned that they could start playing music. They do have board games for whoever wants to play and more space than I thought on the inside. There were 2-3 people working today so the service wasn't hectic or nonexistent. It would have been nice if they were more informal about what's good on the menu since it was my first time, but still my drink was amazing! I had honey milk tea with Tapioca balls. BI is one of a few tapioca places in the Clear Lake area and after going to most of the tapioca places in Chinatown, I still consider BI's drinks to be good. Even though the business has seen several owners throughout the years, the menu with wide selections, method and quality in the drinks have remained the same. There is the option to reduce the sugar content here and the servers are pretty loyal to the requests. The tapioca has always tasted fresh and is a bit tougher and less softer than tapioca (but good) served at other places. There is a nice selection of blended coffee flavors here. read more

The milk tea at Bubble Island is the nectar of the gods. Not the green milk tea, not the thai milk tea, or any other fancy variation; just the plain, original milk tea. The only place that has even come close is Momoko's in Austin (and that one is actually a Chrysanthemum milk tea, not a true black milk tea) or this one random milk tea vendor in Taiwan (where tapioca milk tea originated) that sets up shop down the street my Aunt's house. It has the perfect tea flavor (some places lose the tea taste with all the milk and sugar that's added), with the right sweetness and creamy consistency. In my entire 5 year patronage of Bubble Island, I think I've only tried one other drink, because I never wanted to have anything other than milk tea. So, I can't really speak for any other drink, but they don't look too appealing. But the milk tea... My god, the milk tea! I'm in love. read more

Realizing that my friends and I have never tried bubble teas, we decided to go and change that! This was the closest location to us and since we have no previous experience with bubble teas we were pretty much lost when we got in there! There are so many choices and combinations that it can be quite confusing but the lady working was very helpful and patient with us. I got an almond shake with tapioca, it could have been much better if the almond flavor wasn't as artificial and strong. My friend got a mango slush with strawberry bubbles, which was delicious, and my other friend got a caramel turtle coffee drink with tapioca, which tasted like just cold coffee. Tapioca balls were perfect consistency, the tea had just the right amount of sweetness, and they didn't overdo the ice....I hate dropping $4-5 on a drink only to find that the container is filled with 50% ice. The price was good too...not as cheap as Star Snow in Chinatown, but much cheaper than the overpriced Teahouse. read more

I drove around one day and noticed this place. OMG.. I was like a kid in a candy store... so amazed. This was my first bubble tea/tapioca experience. So NEAT. ...the way the texture of the tapioca felt in my mouth... it's definitely not like tapioca pudding. This place offers sooooo many flavor choices, it was hard to pick just one. I had the lychee frozen drink and my son had the watermelon. The watermelon tasted JUST LIKE watermelon....but not great as a frozen drink, for my taste. The lychee martini was so good!!! It'll be hard to go back and try something different. (I really want to get it again and and some vodka.... reminiscent of a lychee martini - my favorite) I am definitely a fan...and will go back soon! The place looks like an ice cream shop...and they serve more than just drinks. They also have a lounge area where a few teens were playing a board game. The green milk tea I had was awful. The tea tasted over steeped it wasn't very creamy or sweet. In all a very white version of the good stuff that wasn't good at all. The girl was on her cell phone talking a majority of the time I was there it was vey very quiet and felt cluttered and dead. I think my son was smart not getting a drink from here. I took one to my husband and he cringed the moment the drink got in his mouth. It was so not worth the effort of finding the place. I couldn't find the other one, which is supposed to be in the strip mall across from Bubble Island, so I came here instead. It's your typical bubble tea vibe, with some small tables, games, and young'uns in newsboy caps behind the register. The most important thing in rating a bubble tea establishment is the bubble. The bubbles here are chewy, but on the harder side of chewy. Still, it's a little better than average, as a lot of places overcook their bubbles and you get a mushy mess, and the goods are cheaper by $0.50 or so. I suppose you make up for the cost in gas--ha! Overall, Bubble Island takes care of your bubble tea cravings, though don't come with high expectations. read more
