I really love this spot...just wish their hours were different! I've only ordered their iced sea salt coffee twice and it is both tasty and strong! The staff at the location are super sweet, helpful and hardworking. I went in with a group of four and we sat outside. Once our drinks were ready they brought them out to us which is nice! They have a variety of drink options, an option for anyone. The only downside is parking. Parking in Chinatown can be tricky since it can get busy really quickly and parking can be hard to find. read more

Nice little place run by a pair of awesome people. The menu is typical of a teahouse but the location is great and the decor is nice and minimalistic. Their peach green tea was on point; the flavors of the peach and green tea were balanced and the sweetness didn't drown out the tea...ness. Their popcorn chicken is more "pure" in the sense that they don't just give you a box of fried batter and skimp you on the actual chicken. Each bite was perfectly crisp and full of chicken meat and the seasoning was light - which is something I should learn to appreciate more haha. The most pleasant surprise was when they gave me and my coworker 10% off for being a neighbor - we work down the block and this gesture (promotion) was key to securing us as return customers. Having now sampled most of the Milk Tea spots in DTLA, I can pretty confidently say that Twinkle Brown Sugar has retained the crown in my mind. However, Bubble U made a strong showing thanks in part to their excellent contemporary macarons and more quaint atmosphere. For reference, Bubble U points of comparison in DTLA are: Twinkle Brown Sugar: Five Stars Milk+T: Three Stars TeaShot: Three Stars Boteaga: Four Stars Little Fluffy Head Cafe: Four Stars Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The service and atmosphere at Bubble U are both excellent, and you've got a nice cozy coffee shop vibe as opposed to the more commercial settings at the other Milk Tea shops in the area. I was well taken care of, and my tea and macarons came out quickly. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $4.50 landed me a standard Hong Kong Style Milk Tea with boba, which is a price point that is reasonable compared to the competition. Additionally, my macarons were $2.25 each, which also is somehow par for the course in the macaron department. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Everything at Bubble U was good. For starters, while I wished that I'd been offered the levels of customization that are standard at say a Twinkle or a Milk+T like ice quantity and sweetness, the default here at Bubble U was just about right, with mild sweetness, no ice, and the emphasis of the sweetness coming from the boba itself. The boba was smaller than usual and while it didn't taste as fresh and almost 'fuzzy' as you might find at Twinkle, it did the trick. The macarons were excellent as well, and both consistency and flavor came together in the right way with what was some fun contemporary fillings like cream or caramel. Single Star. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I really enjoyed my trip to Bubble U, and I'd say with Twinkle and Boteaga it's in my top three Milk Tea spots in DTLA. Star. read more

The decor was aesthetic. The cups were cute too. But the drinks?! The rose matcha was powdery. If you're a huge matcha fan, maybe you'll like it. The black sugar milk looked good but it tasted like flavorless milk. When stirred with the cream on top, it tasted worse. The honeydew smoothie was basic but tasted the best out of the 3 drinks. All of these drinks were at regular sweetness. Not worth the $6 per drink. The self-service kiosk was quick and easy. I liked ordering with it instead of waiting in the long line. read more

Walking around Chinatown and since it was like a bajillion degrees out (thank you LA weather), decided to duck in here for a refreshing drink. Pros: - Super cute shop. It was well styled, and the macaron display was super inviting - Friendly staff - Menu was large and varied in terms of drinks. They had a few snacks, but mostly drink driven Cons: - My friend and I came in during a weekday afternoon I think and they were super busy. It seemed like everyone was looking for a refreshing drink on a hot summer day. The line was not long, but it took a while - Seating was limited since they were so busy - No real A/C. I was hoping it would be cooler in the shop, but it wasn't much better than the scorching heat outside. It must have been a combo of lots of bodies in the small space and not much A/C to begin with - Good luck with street parking Would I come again? Probably not read more

This was my first visit to Bubble U, but I chose it precisely because they had savory food items on the menu and I wanted a snack to go with my boba tea. The girl at the register was unable to answer any of my questions about some of the items on the menu so that didn't help. I asked her what the squid balls were and she had to run to the back to ask. Then I asked about the egg pudding and she once again ran to the back to ask. I stopped asking questions after that because I realized it was futile so I ordered the items I was familiar with. I ended up going with the chicken wings. They're lightly fried and had a nice lemon zest flavor. The tea was nothing special. read more

Bubble U is my favorite boba place of ALL TIME don't @ me!!! I noticed that the overall consensus of these reviews say that the price of these bubble teas is a little higher than your average boba but you're pretty much paying that extra bucks for a top notch quality bubble tea. I've been to a lot of boba places especially in the 626 where it is known to be boba central, but nothing compares to Bubble U. The main reason why I always go back to Bubble U is because their Boba always remains consistent. There never has been a time where the boba was too hard. It always comes out with the perfect texture and temperature that just enhances the overall bubble tea. Bubble U has a great selection of different Teas whether it be a fresh tea, fruit tea, or milk tea. Also they have seasonal teas that are always refreshing! My go to Bubble Teas are the Oolong Goddess and the Passionfruit Black Tea Boba. Every time I order these and they come out perfect. I highly recommend getting the Golden Boba as your boba option. P.S. they have non dairy options such as almond and oat milk which is a plus for me! read more

Loved their unique kind of flavors here! They have a lot of matcha drinks to choose from which I really appreciate and I went with the Luna matcha tea. It comes with 3 different things inside the drink which I forgot what it was but you're supposed to mix it all up before you drink it. It has a super cute design on top of the drink. I also got boba with it and I was glad I did. My bf got the burn burn latte which he really liked as well. You can really taste the tea and it wasn't so sweet to the point that you can't taste anything but sugar, which was a plus! I had a sip of it and I liked it as well The tea is fresh and I would love to try the other drinks that they have as well. They had some specialty drinks that looked really good. read more

I think this was the best or one of the best bobas I've ever had. It's also 3 min walk from the Chinatown metro stop! Luna Matcha boba: the matcha flavor was really good and their foam wasn't cheesy but it still had a good salted flavor. Also had the cutest picture of pikachu on top. The boba was a bit smaller than normal but had a rlly good flavor and texture. I got the taro pudding as well and this was one of the best boba toppings I've ever had. I debated getting this for so long especially because I don't usually like pudding in my drink and it was already expensive, but I'm so glad I got it because it had a wonderful silky texture and taro flavor. Interior: Small but very aesthetic with props like plants and lightbulbs along the wall. Nice service, but they were sold out of everything!! I ended up ordering a rose matcha and it reminded me of strawberry milk and matcha. I thought I had ordered regular boba but ended up with agar so I exchanged it for a jasmine tea, I thought I ordered just a plain jasmine tea but I ended up with a jasmine milk tea. Not much flavor unfortunately. Nice service though read more

I stopped by here one hot hot day in LA (what's new right?). The shop was a lot smaller than I expected, but nonetheless it was cute. There's a bar and a few tables if you're looking to stay. I ordered the Original Milk Tea w/ grass jelly. It was pretty yummy and the grass jelly tasted really fresh! One thing to keep in mind is the teas here come unsweetened. This threw me off a bit because I'm used to them being a "normal" sweetness and then you can reduce or add from there. But, after taking a couple sips I came to enjoy the unsweetened version a lot more than their sweetened counterparts. Plus, it's always better to reduce your sugar intake anyway right? I'm really looking forward to stopping by again! But, definitely not looking forward to dealing with the parking situation. There's only street parking or pay to park in a lot. It's a bit frustrating, but sometimes good tea is definitely worth it! read more

This is by far the best boba place in LA, no joke. I don't think there's anything within it's vicinity that taste as good as the drinks that Snow and Terry (the owners) make! When I used to work at the Bank, we would get our drinks here. Phone orders or by walking across the street. Honestly, I don't think I've ever had any complaints with their drinks but they have came a long way from when they first opened. They have made many changes and adjustments to their menu because they don't just settle for okay. They strive to be better. Even though I'm opened to a wide range of drinks, my usual go to is always sea salt green tea. Their green tea is not underbrewed or overbrewed, just the right amount of sweetness, and their sea salt and cream is great. I've had places were their cream is too cheesy or cream taste like whipped cream. I'm not really sure about their parking situation but definitely get your boba here! read more

So many tea spots out there. Everyone is just trying out do the next person with the next special item. Now it's off to that creama craze. I did enjoy this spot. Located central of Chinatown across from BofA. Small tea spot and some snacks. Tried there burn burn tea both the pineapple and latte. So how much did I enjoy it, welp let's just say during my journey of waiting for Howlin Ray's i went there twice. Sometimes all you need in life is that right amount of burn and that's what the latte does. reminded you of that nice creme brulee taste, but w/cheese. Tea flavor was good. If you ask me, i prefer the latte over the pineapple tea. read more

So I went in the morning toward the area and a bubble u employee told me they don't take phone orders which is obsurd. I drove back to work and my coworker ordered online. The drinks got delivered by ubereats and it got delivered to the wrong person or it got lost. I called bubble u and asked if they can do a phone order this time because our drinks got lost and they rudely said no. Their main goal is to sell boba to customers and bubble u can't do that. Your website isn't user friendly and glitchy. There is no parking near your shop unless if you want to pay 8 dollars. Also, a girl pretended to be a manager on the phone. Don't let the fear of covid ruin your business. No taking phone orders does not prevent covid. read more

I love drinking tea and this place serves quality tea! You can taste the bold flavors in both their green and black teas! I like how you can customized the level of sweetness and ice here. The 25% sweetness was perfect for me. The service was friendly and quick - about 5 mins to get our drinks. There's no restroom and no AC...They did have a small fan available. Pretty cool spot. Near Chinatown. Had a wide selection of boba drinks. I got almond milk tea with less sugar. Worth it overall. I usually get taro milk tea but they didn't have it when we went this past week. Wife got warm matcha milk tea with golden boba. I would definitely get the golden boba next time. We were killing some time in Chinatown and needed a caffeine boost. This boba spot was the nearest one on Broadway. It's very small with a few tables and some bar stool seating. The menu is simple with milk/fruit teas, smoothies, and coffee options. You can customize your drinks by sweetness level, ice level, and type of milk. There are a variety of add-ons: boba, aloe, egg pudding, coffee jelly and more. They offer snacks as well: flavored fries, popcorn chicken, macarons, etc. We had the mango fruit tea with boba and jasmine green milk tea with egg pudding. Both were not too bad. This review is really overdue since I came here at the beginning of summer. I wish this place was closer so I could frequent it more. It's a nice little place in the heart of Chinatown but it gets buried amongst all the shops around it, so it's easy to miss. Parking is terrible but that's the way it's always been in Chinatown and pretty much all of Los Angeles for as long as I can remember growing up in California. The service is really good. I dealt with one of the owners. She was a really sweet person. It's small, so there's not a lot of seating. They offer daily specials, student discounts and stamp cards. Anyway, the decor is cute and really photo friendly. The drinks are so refreshing and you can taste the quality. The next time I'm in the area, I'm definitely coming back. read more

This is a solid boba spot. I love the very cute kids boba. The cup has a really cute bear shaped cover and the size is just right. I think it's a little chaotic when u first enter and people are standing everywhere making it difficult to actually order. Everything is self-checkout/ computer operated. Now everyone is familiar with this technology so that slows the process down as folks try to figure it out. The employees only make drinks and call names. However once you order they fulfill the orders quickly. read more

Great place to get boba in Chinatown! I'm not sure if it was because I just had howlin rays so my mouth was on fire or because I've been craving good thai tea with boba (tried to satisfy my cravings by going to other places the week prior and they all sucked) but I was very impressed with bubble U! It can be very easy to miss if you're driving since theres so many different small shops that have their products out on the sidewalk, but if you're walking, you def won't miss it. The menu is pretty similar to most boba shops. I got the thai milk tea with boba and it was delicious! I didn't ask about the sweetness level when I ordered, but when I got my drink, it was perfectly sweet. And the boba was also so good! I finished my drink 2 hours later, and the boba was still soft as if it was a freshly made drink. Most boba will get all soggy and gross if it sits in the drink for too long, but not bubble u's boba. There's some tables to sit at inside, but wouldn't recommend this place for group of 6 or more. The place is tiny and is more of a pick up and to go shop. read more

Only reason why I don't rate 5 stars is because all the plastic, its just wayy tooo much! Super unsustainable and makes me feel really bad about being prt of it. The cup and the lid are just the thickest plastic I have ever encountered, which is super unnecessary, I've definitely had boba in more simple plastic cups. Other than that the Matcha Rose milk tea was sooo tasty! I loved it, will go back next year so my carbon footprint doesn't exceed. Lolol read more

First off, I do not like the tiny boba. And something about the milk tea was off... Can't put my finger on but my two other friends agreed. It had a very mild tea flavor, and I specifically inquired about a strong tea-flavored milk tea and was recommended the roasted oolong milk tea. Came across this place while roaming Chinatown. I'm glad I did because their boba was really good and hands down has the best sea salt foam I've ever had. I ordered an Earl Grey iced tea with the sea salt foam and boba, which was the perfect combination. I ordered my tea half sweet as I always do at boba shops because theyre all typically too sweet regularly. The sea salt foam was a perfect compliment to the earl grey too. It was a thicker foam compared to other boba shops. The only disappointments I really had was they did not have the cheese foam that I saw on other yelp photos. Apparently, it's a "seasonal" thing per the cashier. Another reason I could not give 5 stars is because service was pretty slow. Took about 15 minutes to get my drink. I think they need more employees. They only had one person working the register and one person making drinks, which is crazy because the place was pretty packed with customers. I don't always visit Bubble U because the parking situation isn't very convenient for me. But when I do stop by, it's always a wonderful experience. My usual order at Bubble U is the regular milk tea with boba. The milk tea isn't too sweet and you can tell that they use quality ingredients. Also, the boba consistency is really nice. They serve snacks as well here; the popcorn chicken and macrons are pretty tasty, I definitely recommend. Lastly, the overall atmosphere and customer service here is top notch. The tea shop is always clean and well maintained. The employees are consistently patient and friendly with the customers, which is a huge plus. Explored china town and stumbled upon this little place. As soon as i entered i was greeted and told it would be one moment because they were already assisting the guest ahead of me. They have a great selection of teas and put a twist on drinks by offering toppings. Also the boba was square and not as chewy as most which was a nice change. I tried the original milk tea with boba and they also have a rewards program with stamp card to earn a free one after so many purchases. Nice ambiance Nd decor inside street parking is minimal but there is a lot a block away. Milk tea that is above average i recommend stopping in. read more

Ordered: 1) Lavender black milk tea - regular milk, 50% sugar - pretty good, comparable with Boba Guys ones 2) Iron Goddess Oolong milk tea - regular milk, 75% sugar - decent but TP Tea and Ten Ren is still better.
