I moved down from WI 11 years ago. 8 years ago I went house shopping. I was tired of driving around and needed something to eat. I was a mile away from Bubb's Grub and I thought, why not. I walked in and WOW! It made me feel like I was home in WI again. Dan, the owner greeted me and I told him where I was from. He was and is so nice. Bubb's Grub has a wonderful upper mid-west atmosphere. This was a deciding factor in buying the house I live in now. I couldn't be more pleased to this day. The food is wonderful and they have a Friday night fish fry and they serve Walleye. You could not get more WI'ish. He did not stock the beer I like but ordered it so I could have a beer when I ate there. Now that is going above and beyond service! read more

First time I had burnt ends was in Kansas City and they were amazing so tried them at Bubbs and they were yucky BUT second time tender just over sauced and need another name other than burnt ends like steak ends lol. read more

I have tried Bubb's three times. Tried hard to like the place. As a Midwest raised I should be able to find something nice to write about a place that claims Wisconsin roots and Wisconsin pride. But I just can't. Bubb's food is mediocre and overpriced. Frozen crinkle fries from a plastic bag? No. Not even in Milwaukee. The walleye meal costs $22 bucks. Don't bother. It's not bad- it's just not good. And for $22 I expect something pretty delicious. Bubb's walleye meal is small for the price and it is not delicious. Their claim to fame is bbq. Midwest isn't known for bbq, but hey- let 'em try. Well... it's not the worst, but it is a far cry from good. They have a beautiful smoker out back. It's a shame the finished product doesn't meet the expectations this serious smoker operation would suggest. Their sides and salads would have been considered average in 1970. In 2019 they are unacceptable for a sit down $20 per meal restaurant. Bubb's has a Happy Hour- $1.00 off beer, wine, and appetizers. There are only 4 beers on tap- and None of them are from Milwaukee. Definitely not what one would expect. That's a Fail. Who ever heard of a bbq and sports joint claiming Midwest roots with such a limited tap selection? Mostly bottled beer? Hmmmmm.... If you're a wine drinker, take a pass. Stick to water. The available fruit of the vine is a C- for which you'll overpay. On our most recent and final visit we were quoted $5.25 for a Happy Hour glass of Pinot Grigio. When the bill arrived the price was $6. I asked the server to adjust according to what she had quoted. She then backtracked, saying that she had said she thought the price was $5.25. I asked her to verify with management and when she returned to the table she handed me a $1.00 bill, saying that management was sticking with the $6 charge. It was condescending and dishonest. Bush league. Epic Fail. And bad math, too. $1.50 would have been the difference, and an apology (even if it was to say we had a misunderstanding) would have gone a long way toward customer service. Golloly!! Hard not to notice that the reviews are all over the place for this BBQ joint. I know every eater has a style of bbq they like best and though I wasn't real impressed with the sides (coleslaw for me, buttered corn for my husband) but, for my Western grown tastebuds the World Champion pulled pork sandwich was just right. I wanted to taste the meat, I wanted it to be tender and moist, I wanted a nice fresh Kaiser bun, I wanted it lightly tossed in bbq sauce, and I wanted it fast cause I was hungry as hell. I got what I wanted. The sandwich ticked all the boxes, so to speak. I am not a fan of ribs, I do like me some brisket though. So maybe next time I'm in the area I'll give it a look see. All in all, my experience was a very good one. Sidebar: If anyone thinks there's a way to go to bbq joint that's cheap, I'd fall off my pony. We went there last night for dinner and have to say I was not impressed. I ordered the 2 meat combo, ribs n hot link with fries and cole slaw. I have to say first off the service was great. But that's it. I asked if the slaw was mayo or vinegar based and was told it was a combo. It was so runny I needed a spoon. Ribs? Where were they? 3 little ribs that were the end of the rack. No more than 2 to 3 inches long. Even the knife had a hard time cutting thru them. Little to no meat. Almost burned to perfection! Absolutely no flavor. Do they even use a rub? The hot link was so so. I get better ones at Costco. The Texas toast was horribly dry. Looked like it had been sitting for quite a while. No butter. (1) it's hit or miss, 50/50 chance you get juicy brisket or dry brisket. I've come multiple times because everyone has a bad day but for the inflated prices ($60 for a rack of ribs and a 3 meat plate) there needs to be more consistency. (2) I understand food prices are going up because of certain reasons (Thanks Brandon), but when you nickel and dime your customers, you lose them. I wanted to order the three (3) meat plate and wanted three orders of brisket, but was told "sorry can only do two orders of brisket because it's too expensive...". That's for sure, this place is extremely expensive but if I want three orders of brisket, I should be able to order three servings of brisket... put a surcharge for a third brisket fine but to flat out tell a customer no because "iTs ToO eXpEnSiVe" when you're charging an arm and a leg as it is, that's absurd. Who are you to tell me, the customer already paying $60 for a rack of ribs and a three meat plate, I can't have a third serving. (3) This also plays into the "nickel and diming of customers", this place treats their tiny little cups of sauce like gold. Again I have made the mistake of trying barbecue and a little town had the brisket pretty expensive for what you get the brisket a sliced roast beef have no smoke flavor at all it was tender I have to give them that but not a smoke flavor very disappointed there sauce I'm not very good at either and the weird menu on top of everything they don't do onion rings after 5 or 4 whatever time they decide and there was some other odd things on the menu service weather average nothing that stood out he just was kind of going through the motions only song to bring the food take the order never came back to fill drinks or anything I don't was slow so not sure what he was doing the bathrooms were kinda gross think I rather of went to the park they would have been cleaner won't try them again that's for sure read more

Variety at this place, good BBQ, the brisket is very good. These people hustle for there money and know how to serve you. This is kind of a strange but comfortable place--Texas roadhouse meets "up north" Michigan/Wisconsin bar. A very woodsy feel with a few cigar store Indians and some western memorabilia make it a nice place for an early evening dinner when the weather is cool. The food we had on our one visit yesterday was good, but not great as you would expect from an advertised "BBQ championship" winner. The ribs were very tasty with a pleasant smokey flavor and just a bit of char on them. Not the best ribs I've ever had, but very good nonetheless. The Bubb's Grub sauce added a nice spicy tang. Unfortunately, the ribs were not very meaty, and $18.95 for a half order with 2 sides and a tortilla or toast was pushing it a bit. The full rack is a better way to go, and you get some to take home. The cole slaw was good but a little soupy. The garlic mashed potatoes and the green beans were good too, but nothing special. However, the barbecued pinto and black beans were excellent with a nice Smokey flavor and just a hint of spice. You might want to add the pickled jalapeño slices that accompany the ribs to the beans to spice them up. But why do so many restaurants continue to use canned or jarred peppers? Fresh jalapeños or serranos are very Inexpensive and easy to slice up. And they add freshness to any dish where they are used, and they also show that the restaurant cares just a little bit more about their food than the average place. The service was good and friendly, but some of the food came out barely warm and had to be reheated. Overall, this was a nice experience and recommend it for a laid-back, casual meal. One last comment concerns the Wisconsin connection. The Friday fish fry is promoted as a typical Wisconsin fish fry, and there are cheese curds on the appetizer menu. But how come there's aren't any classic Wisconsin beers on the menu? read more

I first tried Bubb's Grub over 2 years ago and was very good. I have been there several times since and it gets worse and worse every time I have come. I gave it one for chance and have decided it is not worth ever going back. I started out with the Wisconsin cheese curds. Came out warm on some soggy ice burg lettuce. Ordered their pulled pork and beef brisket. They were out of the Beef brisket. Had to order the chicken instead. Dinner came out and tried the pulled pork again. Worse than the last time. Dry and tough. The chicken was this little piece of dried out bird. The only way to put some moister back into the meat is to smother it in the BBQ sauce that they bring to the table. (you get better BBQ at Famous Dave's) Lets talk about the service. They seem to have a lot of kids running around in there. Nobody seems to do anything. You get seated and then takes forever to get somebody to come over to the table and take your drink order. Waited over 15 mins the last time I was there. The sad thing was they were not very busy. Very slow to come back and check on you while you are eating to get refills or anything else you might need. The only thing they were quick to do was bring the check! Those who live in Tucson are VERY LUCKY to have Bubb's Grub!!!! SERIOUSLY LUCKY!!!!!! I love BBQ and search for joints in every city I visit. I've been lucky enough to have dined numerous times on some of the finest Texas BBQ in Austin, Texas- Stubs, Rudy's...etc Bubb's Grub is REAL DEAL Texas BBQ! I'm from SoCal and can't find REAL Texas bbq here.....some good bbq, but nothing that brings back memories and flavors of Texas. I was visiting Tucson last week and drove north just wandering around......I saw a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere (ok, I'm from SoCal.....this seemed like the middle of nowhere) it had a big sign that said "WORLD CHAMPION BBQ" with a big painting of Texas on it...... I went back to my hotel and told the wife that we were having bbq for dinner. If you see a restaurant that says "World Champion".....YOU MUST STOP AND EAT. My order was take out so my review is for the food only. It turns out they were world champion for their bbq sauce and pulled pork....I think in 1998, forgive me if I'm wrong. The pride and joy of Texas bbq is brisket.....this was some of the best brisket I have EVER had; almost tender enough to cut with my plastic fork, a nice amount of fat running thru the meat, incredibly juicy, and the smokey flavor, spice, and crust was out of this world...BRAVO Bubb's!!!! YOU ROCK!!!! You must be proud of your brisket to offer "burnt corners and pieces" as an appetizer! Oh I wish I had 2 stomachs that night! I also had the pulled pork.....Fantastic, and the bbq chicken....Fantastic... The beans were great, smokey, and spicy, not sweet. Their bbq sauce is just wonderful, their spicy bbq sauce is wonderful, and their mustard bbq sauce is wonderful. Some say a bbq sauce is truly special when you would consider drinking it just by itself......Bubb's is pretty damn close! The menu is huge and has so much variety....but since I had only one chance I ordered the staples to test their Texas authenticity. There are plenty of sandwiches, appetizers, salads, and sides. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all my nerdy bbq questions. I loved Bubb's so much that I would certainly pay to overnight their food to my home in SoCal. I've done this once before from a North Carolina bbq joint....that's how much I love bbq! They even serve Texas toast!! I just feel like cursing right now.....F&^K YEAH Bubb's! If you live in Tucson and eat here all the time....I ask you to slap yourself once in a while before you sit down at Bubb's to appreciate and remember how lucky you are to have this quality of bbq in your home town. Ya know I forgot to review this place a while back, so this is based on a visit from November. Have had BBQ in various spots through the country including the BBQ belt of the south. We were on the far NW side of town, far from our home, and looking for a place to eat and watch a football game and this place was really a surprise, meats, wings, fries. The pulled pork equals the very best that can be found in the Carolinas and I have not been able to find brisket that good in Texas outside of a competition. Neither sophisticated or elegant, Bubb's has awesome food and great service. Bubb's starts with a real smoker located behind the restaurant - the first requirement of any good BBQ. The ribs are meaty and tender. My personal favorite is a rack of beef ribs. They are big and good. My wife's favorite is the smoked prime rib (available on weekends) which is unique and excellent. The meat combinations, including chicken, provide just about all you could want. Sides are good. Sports fans will find the bar a good place to keep up with your team. read more

Several employees seemed to notice me, but none took the initiative to ask if I was there to eat. At my "patience has run out point" a server finally came over and took me to a table. Love..love....loved it! Hands down the best BBQ I have eaten by far. My girlfriends and I stopped in and it was an experience I will never forget. Our server Linda was very helpful with suggestions, funny and very quick with our food and drinks. We met the owner Dan and he was down to earth and very nice. We pigged out. Their wings have the best rub I have ever had...and boy were they crispy...and not greasy we also shared pulled pork and brisket that was so juicy and tender. If you have been to almost any bbq place then you will be familiar with the style. The atmosphere of this place is traditional "BBQ" western ranch house style. We stopped here on our way to the Ford dealership and it was a pleasant surprise. So far the best BBQ place that I have been to in the Tucson area. We liked it so much we went again a week later when we came up to buy the car from the dealer in Oracle and we brought friends the second time. If it was closer to Tucson then we would go more often. Food: this is why we eat out at places like this, to enjoy juicy meats and tasty sauces. This place hits the head of the nail. Both times I ordered the three meat platter and I have to say that their chicken is wonderful. The private label sauce is one of the best that I have had.
