The atmosphere is very retro with lots to look at. The over all vibe is very warm, relaxed, and welcoming. Ultra casual too, though if you do choose to dress up a bit you won't feel out of place either. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The bread they bring to the table is warm and has a soft interior with only a slight crunch on the outside. Very enjoyable. They have a nice sized drink menu with standards and specialty drinks. I had a Mediterranean Cosmo and found is very tasty and light. They have a large food menu as well, with plenty of options for all tastes. We started with the bruschetta which is Roma tomatoes, mozzarella, red onions, basil infused olive oil and balsamic vinegar served with parmesan crostini. It was delicious. The bread was still soft while having just the right amount of crunch. The toppings were fresh, plentiful in amount and large in size not to mention full of flavor. A great way to start the meal. For my meal I had the penne basilica which is penne pasta served with chicken breast and broccoli in a parmesan and pesto cream sauce. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the broccoli was perfectly cooked. Warm and soft with just a hint of crispness. The sauce was perfectly executed. As someone who loves to cook I can tell you how hard it is to get a cream sauce right. Often times it can be so thick and over powering that you can't enjoy any of the other parts of the dish. This sauce wasn't like that at all. It was light, flavorful and very enjoyable with out over shadowing the other ingredients. A delicious meal I will absolutely be ordering again. For dessert I had the double dark chocolate cake. Which is dark chocolate cake with layers of chocolate frosting on top of chocolate sauce. What can I say. If you love chocolate you will love this cake. Moist, creamy, decedent, deliciousness. Additionally if you are like me and like icing more than cake you will absolutely love this cake. I'm a huge fan of Buca and I have been for many years. This is a great place for family style Italian food and birthday gatherings. My only complaint lately is how much the portions have shrunk. We used to struggle to eat the huge portions and always had enough to take home. Now it's barely enough to share and definitely not enough to take home. They still have amazing service and delicious food, but the prices are not cheap. If the prices remain high and the portions continue to shrink I don't think I'll be visiting Buca as often unfortunately. read more

The ambiance and service was excellent. However, the two of our four dishes were not as tasty as expected for menu prices. The chicken limone was good but the lasagna & fettucine alfredo was bland. My husband's all time favorite dish is lasagna and although it looked fantastic the lack of flavor was a let down. We went for our daughter's birthday staff sang to her & comped a martini sundae big enough for all of us which was very nice. Meal for 4 with 4 dishes/leftovers $190 i/c 20% gratuity. Met a friend at the Lombard location for an early dinner. Walked right in. Friendly hostess and waitress. Excellent service. I accidentally dribbled dipping oil on my pullover and Chisele came to the rescue with club soda. The cheese on the antipasto was so yummy and made the salad really pop. For our main share we chose the Spicy Chicken Rigatoni. Spicy Delicious I was stuffed but couldn't stop. Just one more noodle... one more We finished with cannolis. One lemon and one traditional. We came here for an early Mother's Day dinner for our mom. The food was delicious and it wasn't overly packed. Our waitress was wonderful, very attentive and energetic. The main reason why I have to give 2 stars is because I became very sick after dinner. As you may know, it is family style so we all ate the same thing. I was able to rule out that it wasn't the food. I was the only one who ordered a glass of red wine. I could tell from the first sip that it wasn't the best glass of wine I've had but it didn't taste sour or anything so I didn't think to ask for a different wine. I should have. I went here with two of my friends. Everything is priced and served family style. So it's important that you can agree on what you are eating as a single dish is going to be gigantic and cost you $30 plus. I don't like that it's that way for even the salads and desserts. I mean one person wants veggies so now we all have to eat and pay $20 worth of veggies and like the same vegetable? I felt like the food was that of every chain restaurant. Standard but good. It's not going to amaze you or be unique but it won't disappoint. We had the bruschetta which was served in a gigantic martini glass, again decent but not a culinary design or anything. The lasagna was great size for 3. We were all decently full with just the bruschetta and lasagna, one more dish we would have been bloated and taking home leftovers! I would highly recommend signing up for their email club as their regular prices are kind of high but they constantly are emailing promotions for $20 off which makes it a decent value of going. The restaurant wasn't busy at all yet they choose to sit us next to the booth with a young toddler. Where do I start, from upper management to the wait staff to the ambiance and top notch customer service, I love this place! I called in looking for a place to do my wedding rehearsal dinner and Chad was the most nicest and genuinely helpful manager I spoke to out of 10 restaurants to accomodate our needs. We lucked out with Kaitlyn and Chisele as our servers that night as well! Not only did they be forward with us that what we ordered was too much but they checked in with us through out dinner to make sure we were doing okay and if anyone from our party could add more to the tab. This was my first time eating at Buca di Beppo. Our waitress jazelle (spelling) was amazing and so sweet! My kids and i ordered the calamari and the bruschetta appetizers. So delicious! Came here on a Saturday night at 6:30pm because the restaurant we intended to eat at had a 1.75 hour wait. We hadn't been to Buca in about 20 years because we don't live nearby and thought we'd try it. We walked in the door and were pleasantly surprised to see quite a few people waiting to be seated. Turns out it was just one large party and a small family who were seated within seconds of us entering the restaurant. We provided our name and phone number which I assume is so they can text you when your table is ready. We were told there was a 5 -10 minute wait so we sat in the only two chairs in the waiting area. We waited about 8 minutes to find that there were about 4 other tables seated in the restaurant so the wait time seemed extremely unnecessary. Ordered Caesar salad, stuffed shells, and mozzarella garlic bread. The wait for food to arrive one plate at a time seemed pretty excessive. It kind of felt like our wait person might have forgotten about us given how packed the joint was (please read that as sarcasm). Caesar salad was wilted when it arrived at the table. The stuffed shells gave off a vomit-like essence that I attributed to maybe the cheese(?) but it was fully supported by the off-putting texture of whatever was crammed in those dry shells. Two redeeming factors of the meal: the olive oil and bread were delicious and the mozzarella garlic bread was the only thing that made it into the take home boxes. As shocked as I was at how badly Buca missed the mark, I was absolutely stunned when the $100 check was dropped at the table. As the meal went on, my husband and I both got progressively congested for some reason, as there was a definite mustiness to the place. I remarked to my husband that it felt like we time traveled back to 1999 when we walked in the door. He said he wished he could go back in time by two hours and decide to avoid this meal altogether. This chain is not just okay, it is consistently okay. You don't have to worry like I do when going to expensive pretentious but allegedly authentic "Italian" restaurants that don't even have spaghetti and meatballs on the menu. This is authentic Italian-American food, but you should know it's served family style only. You're going to have leftovers if you come by yourself. The small plates are for three people (or two of me), and large feeds 5. So, this is most fun with a medium sized group. I enjoyed eavesdropping on a very sweet Mexican-American family of women sitting near me. They were so kind and loving, this is the perfect place for this. Also sitting near me was a group of high school friends who were acting very grown up, though there were no adults with them. This is a good place for this as well. Celebrated my mom's 88th birthday. Everything was delicious and wait staff was very accommodating.

Bought two pastas for a family size of five so the trays were big. Had to throw on some cheese on top to give it some salt, very stingy on the actual sauces/toppings. If I wanted regular pasta, I would just boil it at home. Paid $115 for mostly flavorless pasta. I hope being stingy is worth it, because I can't see this place surviving too long. This has been our holiday go to for years and it's sort of a tradition so we go this year and we couldn't get a reservation until 45 minutes before closing and I asked them on the phone well if we're going to be rushed out of there and get horrible service I would rather not Everybody knows the food is not cheap here they assured me it would not be the case. Let me tell you that is not how it went, we got our drinks. We ordered our appetizers when we got appetizers. We had no plates for all of us to share them. We had to either eat out of the containers they were brought in or just hold it in the air and eat it. The waiter never came back and checked on us, even though we had asked for plates, we ran out of drinks, and the kicker was about 45 minutes after we ordered the server finally reappeared and said we aren't making pizzas today when somebody in the party had ordered a pizza OK if they weren't making them all day you knew that when we made the order now it's past closing time we still have no food and you're just telling us this so we had to take the rest of what we'd ordered and now split it amongst everybody at the table I had to get my napkins I had to get my own straws and in cases like this, I don't know why we have to be compelled to tip 20%. I do know it's a holiday and they are at work but that's nobody's fault. You could always have another job where you don't work a holiday I'm not compelled to do anything when service is so bad When we got there, almost everybody was either leaving or had already had their food and was paying the bill so it's not like the server had a ton of tables I'm not doing 20% for crap service I'll still tip but it won't be 20% plus the food was nowhere near the same that it has been in prior years The garlic bread had zero flavor zero like I couldn't taste anything the Caesar salad was delicious, the fettuccine Alfredo came swimming in sauce so for $34 it's probably three dollars of pasta swimming in a pool of sauce and I've had this over and over again. This was the worst tasting fettuccine I've ever had in my life and the rest of the party agreed but nobody wanted to complain we didn't want to complain on a holiday, so we just all shut our mouths but none of us were happy with the service, and we were not happy with Feeling like we were rushed out of there which I mentioned when I made the reservation and we definitely were not happy with the food so this is our last year going there and we will find somewhere else to go for the holiday now read more

Went here for dinner with one of my friends on a Wednesday night. The place was not crowded, interior had pictures and for me had a old fashion restaurant look which was cool. The portions are huge they typically feed (for the small) 3-4 people. So we had a lot to take home. Our server was great, she was informative in regards to "house favorites" along with what we were looking for. Appetizers: bruschetta This was good but the tomatoes were chopped so thick and they gave us soo much of it and not very much bread. This year we decided to skip cooking a Christmas dinner and head to Buca! Thank goodness we made a reservation in advance because it was packed! I'm talking no walk-ins and booked fully to 8 pm packed! But luckily everyone was in good spirits and Buca had a solid plan for the day! The food itself was good. Family style. I hate to do this to you Buca because 20 years ago you were THE PLACE when I lived in Chicago! Those days you had delicious family sized interesting options and your bread pudding, well so amazing that I still dream of it! But fast forward to 2019 and the food is bland, very disappointing small portions and waaaay too EXPENSIVE for the quality and portions. I bought a Chicken Salmbacca for 3 for $33 and it was hardly enough for 1 hungry man. You can tell from the package alone that it looks more like a single serving not a meal for 3-4! Thinnest chicken breast I ever saw, must be one emaciated chicken- should be the cover model for Chicken Illustrated, but not in my belly! The small Margarita pizza for $23 is just absolutely ridiculous, it was the size of a $8.99 appetizer anywhere else! So definitely double what it should have actually cost. $60 wasn't even enough food for 2 let alone 4-5 people as it is marketed to be! This was disappointing and very expensive. For appetizers, we ordered the small calamari and it was $21.50. The "large" was 31.00. Talk about seafood robbery! The small is supposed to feed 3 but really it was just enough for 2. The batter was forgettable and it had a red sauce both of which were bland. We also had the chicken wings and those were overfried and verrry salty. For entrees we ordered the Rigatoni and the Lasagna. The Lasagna had a generic thick red sauce and the Rigatoni was terribly bland. The 4 dishes and soda was $80 and tip. It was not worth the trek down or hard earned money. The ambience with the photos/memorabilia and the service earned it 2 stars but the terrible generic Italian food garnered Zero. The waiter was extremely kind, attentive, and helpful which made it a good experience. My biggest issue is that the food is just not very good. We tried a few of their dishes, and it honestly tasted like many had been frozen. I did not think the entrees were very flavorful and the tomato sauce was bland and watery. I'm so sorry to say this, but it reminded me of cafeteria food and not something I would go out of my way for or recommend. I've had home cooked, authentic Italian, and this was not it, despite the type of atmosphere they're trying to create. The larger portions are nice, but the quality of the food overall makes it very overpriced in my opinion. I would much rather have a smaller portion of fresh, homemade food than a large portion of the opposite. It's a shame because I hoped it would be better. Valentine's Day at Buca in Lombard Buca is our favorite family style restaurant. Awesome Italian food, just like mom used make. Servers are friendly knowledgeable and helpful. We're here celebrating Valentine Day with a heart shaped lasagna. As the oldies play throughout the restaurant you are surrounded by old pictures of the Italian classics, singers, actors and what appear to be old family photos. If you have never been here, you will be in for a treat. Every room has a different theme. The food is served in small or large portions.
