Maybe 3 is to low, but 4 is too high. Service was poor. The young lady tried, but taking 20 minutes to come to our table. You could do better. The wine list is solid. The minestrone soup was thin, watery and lacked flavor. We both had linguine and white clam sauce. The dish was very good, but the portion is quite small. Not sure I would go back. read more

The food is really good, the atmosphere is intimate and interesting with the ktichen in the middle of the bar type seating area (although we usually sit at a table), the waitstaff are always friendly, the wine selection is quite extensive. I recommend the pasta entrees and the creme brulee. Classy, although nice shirt and jeans is okay. read more

Service was marginal at best! Took forever for dinner. Never saw server again for a second drink, tea, whatever. Server took glasses from first drinks and never offered another. Asked who was the manager; answer was that no manager was present; only her son who said he was not in charge. Food was good but service and knowledge of the menu was lacking. Unacceptable for this area and this price. Third experience like this here. Unacceptable. Unprofessional. They can do better. Find another place for dinner. wow reading other reviews you would think this place blows you away-not so, not even close. I have eaten there 2-3 times in the last few years as it is a friends favorite place, why I don't know. I am disappointed each time. While I don't mind spending $25-40 for a meal I expect a reasonable portion, The soup portion was 3-4 ounces in a VERY LARGE bowl,the clam pasta was about 3/4 of a cup. do not go there hungry, better yet don't go there at all. I will not be talked into going there again. Service was below average as we had to remind the staff we ordered drinks. While the food was average there are much better places in the area. read more

I made an online reservation for our wedding anniversary for 7pm. They called me on the day of the reservation at 3:30 and left me a voice mail saying they had a table at 7:30 but I needed to call back within 30 minutes. I called them an hour after they called and they told me they only had a table at 5:45. I will never try again. read more

Food that's cooked with attention to details & a team that clearly loves working here as it serves without pretentiousness. It is a busy place and reservations are advised but the staff was gracious enough to let us dine even when we landed 15 minutes prior to closing time. The portions are designed to feed you and let you savor the food while not stuffing your mouth. I'd recommend sitting at the bar- the team enjoys the work it does and you can see why the food tastes genuine. The staff doesn't rush you through your meal and pays attention while not being pushy. We've been to Bucci's four times and have never been unhappy with the food, wine or service. read more

I recently dined at Bucci and what an experience. I absolutely loved this place! a little pricey but worth every penny. I went for a nice dinner with my family and sat at the "bar" as they call it. It's basically a seating section around the kitchen which is the best place to sit. We went on a really busy night and we were able to watch all of the different foods being prepared. I saw prepared because the chefs here make creations, they don't just cook. They have a system and carefully create each meal and plate it and make it to perfection. It's quite an experience when you get to see your meal being prepared and all of the fresh ingredients being put into it and plated, makes it that much more enjoyable. The staff are incredibly rude. We talked to one guy at the front desk and he walked away. 20 minutes later, I finally get my food. It's cold. The food was poor at best and the service was even worse. The eggplant parmesan was cold when served and the waiter was nowhere in site. Once he appeared, he argued that it was cold because it sat on my wife's plate for 20 minutes. When he picked-up the plate he accused her of lying because the bottom of the plate was still hot. He was very condescending and stormed off in a huff. My pasta was not very good either, the sauce was very heavy and sat on my stomach long after the meal ended. This isn't a review about the food. Why? Because it never came. 2 hours, multiple inquiries as to the painfully slow food service and no entree. No apology from the manager - in fact, no contact from the manager. We wanted to sneak in a pre-Valentines dinner a day early and beat the crowd. Only 41 reservations according to our server - a slow night. And still Bucci managed to disappoint at every level. Our sense is that if you're not a regular and eat at the bar, you'll get your food whenever the inept kitchen gets around to it. read more

This place is all about subtlety. There is no flash, no flourish, just EXQUISITELY prepared food delivered elegantly with a smile. The quality ranges only from excellent to outstanding. We usually save this place for a special outing - I don't know why- but tonight we just stopped in for dinner. The service isn't the best but the food certainty makes up for it. I have been coming to this restaurant for almost ten years with my husband and children. Rather than just telling you honestly that they do not want children, they give you the lame excuse of not having tables despite several tables obviously being available. Although I've had a few past rough moments waiting for a table with similar stories to those told below, I still think the food is great. Tonight my sister and I arrived with no reservation. Luckily we had our choice of either a table or the counter. We chose the esteemed counter, of course. Despite the poor service we had a lovely dinner. Our food was fresh, flavorful, well seasoned, with an artistic presentation. We had a corner table and enjoyed one another's company, finding a little humor in our server's obvious dismissal of us in preference of other diners. Once she asked me a question with her back to me. The brussel sprout/cabbage salad was light, crunchy and had a good zip. My favorite part of the meal was the cream of eggplant and cauliflower soup - robust flavor achieved. I had the seafood trio special and the hubs had the meat trio - each item was prepared perfectly. Of note, the tuna "tare tare" was seared, it was tasty, but it's not tare tare, which is raw. Would I go back? Maybe. read more

The food was nothing short of delicious. We were mesmerized watching them prepare the food in the open kitchen before we were seated. Our group of 7 tried many of the favorites from the fried calamari, artichoke tosca, spaghetti marinara, scallops, pasta pescare, meat ragu and chicken Bella. Everyone loves their meals. The seafood was fresh and everything was prepared to request. It's not five stars because of the service. While the server was accommodating and interactive, it was unfortunate that he did not inform of up charges for changes and explicitly hid them. This added $$ to our bill that - when we asked about it - he refused to back down quibbling on the term "substitution." In every other case, the waiter would have taken off the charge. Lets start off with the server, he came to the table & with the worse attitude ever told us that his name was Tony. But I heard the staff calling him a different name? He was unenthusiastic at the very least. Not once did a smile crack on his face. This night my husband & I were not feeling like drinking, we were hungry for good Italian cooking & just ordered a couple cokes. This pissed "Tony" off big time. Our decision to drink coke also effected the rest of our dining experience. Tony rushed EVERYTHING. From the appetizers almost being served at the same time as our entrees, to not offering us refills. A couple tables away he had a table who was drinking alcohol & had a bottle of wine & boy was he attentive to them. This was unfortunate for Tony because we are 20-30% tippers. read more

I ordered the veal marsala, which was cooked well and was good, but not excellent. My girlfriend ordered a dish which contained artichoke, which is usually not a problem, but the artichoke in her dish smelled quite bad and affected the other food on her plate. When told of the issue, our server didn't do much about the issue. Granted more than 50% of my gf's meal had been eaten, but it was a sign of a cheap restaurant not to comp her meal. It's the least they could have done. With restaurants like Roma Cafe and Villa within 15 minutes of this place, I can't imagine why we would come back. Average Italian food, below average service. Two stars may be generous. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra 15 minutes to Roma Cafe. You'll thank me later. read more

Had dinner recently with a large party after having pretty good experiences in years past. However, my last two experiences were below mediocre. First, the decor is dated: Light Maple Merrillat cabinets and a pink/cranberry seating color scheme. Also, Brass is out. During our last visit, tables seated after us were served their food first. When our food came, half of our table's food was cold. Due to the wait, we didn't complain - we were so hungry we had to eat. The waitress advised, "When the ticket goes into the kitchen, it is out of my hands." Probably true, but not comforting. Fair food, fair service, fair pricing. The restaurant is like someone's home. Some of the food preparation is done in a large kitchen-like area surrounded by a granite countertop, which doubles as a bar. This is the first thing you see when you enter. There are two intimate dining rooms, and seating is very limited, so I would definitely make a reservation before stopping in. We had reservations for a group of eleven at 6:30 on a Thursday. The restaurant set aside their smaller dining room for us, and it was set and ready when we arrived. The service was excellent - salads and entrees were served by five or six waitstaff so we all received our food at the same time. The arugula salad was wonderful. Light, garlicky vinaigrette was the perfect accompaniment to the bitter greens. The olive oil for dipping was delicious - sweet and fruity - unlike any I've ever had. I ordered the Penne Fresca and sampled the eggplant parmesan. Both were delicious and relatively light for Italian pasta dishes. For the table, we ordered two servings of tiramisu, two servings of a frozen hazelnut dessert and one serving of a frozen coffee dessert. My favorite was the coffee one, but they were all rich and delicious, and there was more than enough for all of us. read more

Our first visit here was incredible! Our server, Luis was AMAZING!! My wife had the minestrone soup and Hot-Hot Spaghetti. On Luis' recommendation she added the fennel sausage. Great suggestion, as it gave the dish a wonderful balance of flavors. I had the Linguine Pescadore, and the variety of seafood was all great tasting. The chef clearly knew how to pick out quality, fresh seafood. We will definitely be back! read more

We thought it was pretty good... cozy atmosphere, pretty good food (although the arugula salad was really terrific!), they have a lovely wine selection and the waitstaff was really good. Pretty darn good Italian food for Grosse Pointe! Pastas are always good and prices are reasonable for the quality. Cioppino is also great! All entrees come with a soup or salad. I compare it to Cafe Nini in the (GP) Village but a little better. Sitting at the chef's counter is a treat! My wife and I always try to go here when we're back in Grosse Pointe visiting our family. This is much better than other pricey Italian places on Mack -- I won't say which but it rhymes with FAR MY CAR-DO(or)'s! :-) I would give it 5 stars for the food, but the wait to get someone to greet you is some times very long (and they aren't usually apologetic). read more

Went to Bucci for the first time last evening. Have lived in the area for many years, but never felt inspired to come here before. Perhaps it was the dark signage. Anyway. They appear to be working on this. Now to the helpful comments. First, reservation were a breeze and we were seated before our reservation time. Our waiter was clearly experienced and very attentive and informative. He knew about all of the dishes and gave real recommendations. I have to say he was one of the best waiters I have ever experienced. The food was so fresh and delicious. The Bronzino was recommended. So fresh and light. My husband has the sea scallops and they were done perfectly. My daughter ordered the same. She was also very happy with the creme brulle. I have read about someone not being pleased with carry out here. I get that, but this really is not a carry out kind of place. It's an experience for dining well which they do very well here. I have been going here since it was Maxine's 12+ years ago and Bucci was the chef then before taking over. Never had a bad experience. Reservations suggested, because, well it's busy! Love the counter to watch the cooking (as a wanna be amateur chef), but it's more cozy/romantic at the tables. I am a fan of slower dining and find the pace wonderful; but I could see where people who like to go quickly could have an issue - but hey, you can't please everyone can you? (try taking a more interesting companion). Food is exquisite, but as noted by others, you might not get a doggie bag. Wine list is more than extensive. I really don't ever see the interesting choices and vintages available; but the house wines/by the glass are quite nice as well. read more

I lived in Grosse Pointe for many years, and in my opinion, this was the BEST restaurant in town. The food and service are superb. Their perch entrees are amazing, and their eggplant parm is, too. Had dinner at Bucci with some friends who drove in from Bloomfield Hills. As always, the food was delicious, but our waiter was about as rude and dismissive as he could've been. On the way home I told my husband that the waiter's attitude really diminished an otherwise lovely dinner. Will go back, but will make sure he never serves us again.
