I usually don't like to leave these types of reviews but our horrible experience validates this one. The first major issue was the fact that they will not split checks for you and will actually put all orders on one bill and make you figure it all out. We had a large party and the server stood around while we all had to figure out what was owed for almost 30 minutes. We got a manager and he stated that their policy is to only split a check up to 4 ways, regardless of how many parties are involved. I used to serve tables many times before I got into real estate and have never seen a restaurant with such a dumb policy. I asked to reduce the server's gratuity from the forced 20% on a large party to 15% since we had to spend our time doing her job and the manager said he could not accommodate that. FYI, they like to calculate gratuity based on AFTER they add in sales tax. So you are paying their forced gratuity on sales tax as well. Service was awful, slow, and we had to refill our own drinks multiple times. The server could not even clear our table properly like you would expect at most restaurants with this type of atmosphere. The food was mid. The only thing this place had going was the atmosphere. If it is this difficult to figure out how to split payments with multiple parties and is supposedly "policy", I can't imagine this business will last and certainly won't recommend them to anyone. read more

Me and my son in Law have been trying to try this place for a while. The place is unique and has a great staff! I believe our main server was Ben. He really helped me select my beer of choice. We had the large charcuterie board. This was the best one I've ever had! The pretzel was hot and delicious. We split a Reuben to try it so good! My daughter ordered a macaroni and cheese and loved it. We never got to go outside because of the weather. Only has 2 bathrooms that are shared by men and women. I am of German heritage. I lived in Germany for two years near Bitburg. I dine at German restaurants whenever I get the opportunity. I love German food, music, wine, beer, and culture. So I cannot understate how amazing this gem in Jacksonville is! I honestly felt like I was back in Germany eating in a real Gasthaus. From the ambience and music to the service and food, THIS is authentic German dining! Not a place with generic recipes and Oktoberfest table cloths. This is real German food, made fresh, and is absolutely wunderbar! I had an ice cold Bitburger beer just like I used to drink when I lived in the Fatherland. The pretzel appetizer was just the start to this awesome dining experience. Then they brought me my Meister Teller's wurst platter which honestly, if that had been my last meal, I'd be more than fine with it. My wife had a Reuben sandwich that was better than anything you'll find in this whole area. Our bartender and server, Chase, was phenomenal! Great hidden gem! I decided to try this German restaurant for my mom's birthday dinner. Please note, they do strongly advise making reservations during the weekend hours. I didn't know this . We traveled 40 mins to the restaurant only to learn they were fully booked and it was about an hour wait. Our party of 4 was starving and disappointed. Upon learning that we were celebrating my Moms birthday, Belinda at the front tried to move things around and they were able to accommodate us! I read some older reviews saying that the service lacked: our experience was a complete opposite. Our server Abby was efficient, helpful, friendly and wonderful! And the food: amazing! Well, we went on a Sunday at 2:00pm. One waiter for the whole place. So they lose a star for slow, Un-concerned service. Probably the worst potential racist service we've had in Florida. It is smaller than the pics make it look and it's inside and behind another shop. Making it harder to find. They do have a descent bier garten in the back. So there is that. We we don't know about the food because we didn't get to eat. We sat around waiting and then all he did was come over and ask us to move to another table. we waited a half an hour or more. an hour and a half wise it was 3 o'clock. He had a party coming in at five. He was asking us to move to another table because he had a party coming in at five. The guy was a jerk. I didn't care that we were leaving either without eating you never said sorry no nothing so I wouldn't recommend the place. It is quite frustrating because we drove all the way from Jax Beaches to try it. But we didn't even get water before the waiter was asking us to leave. I get the feeling it's because my wife is Asian as he served everyone else but seemed to ignore the fact we were there. We got our own menus from the bar. The cook was there and he was nice but has his own job. Even the three guys next to us got their beers but us he never even offered water and then he came and asked us to leave before 4:45 and it was only three so I really get the feeling that he's just the problem. All items were delicious, just terrible service and the server who never introduced himself, young man was rude wearing number 19 with a beard. Never caught his name. I had to go inside to get a to go box and then go back to track him down to get our bill that we asked for 15 minutes prior to that. An amazing hidden gem. The front of the bar looks like a small, unassuming shop, but once inside, it has a true speakeasy vibe. The ambiance is fantastic--ornate and atmospheric by the bar, with an open, airy space in the back. There's also a private party area you can book. If you smoke, the back area is smoke-friendly, but if not, staying inside is the better option. The beer selection is excellent, with a great variety, and they also have ciders. However, if you're looking for non-alcoholic drinks, the options are pretty limited. The waitstaff was a highlight--friendly, engaging, and really made the night fun. Their kitchen was backed up so initially we weren't able to order any food for about 30 mins but we weren't in any rush. They took our drink orders and they came out fairly quickly. We shared the pretzel with cheese sauce and mustard and the two flatbread: mushroom and bacon. I really enjoyed the pretzel. It was warm and soft and paired really well with both dips. For the entree, I ordered the currywurst. It was fine but I actually preferred my friend's dish: the bratwurst. Oh and their non-alcoholic "beer" called Christmas was very good. This is a cool secret German pub. It's hidden away - tucked behind a vape store. They have a nice interior bar that is dimly lit and serves good schnitzel. Their beer garden in the back is great with groups. Beer selection is excellent. Food is good but expensive and overpriced. Decided to spend the day in Murray Hill which means we had to spot in at Buchner's Bierhalle. We came in a little past open and were able to get a table inside. I will say they had most of the tables inside full or at least with reservation signs on them so make sure you plan ahead. Once seated it's time for beer. I love that they had so many German Beers both on taps and bottled since they are some of my favorite. I of course had to get 32oz stein since, 1: were at a German bar/restaurant and 2: you can't get them at most places when when the option is there you take it. We of course had to order food too and got plenty to share. We went with the Wiesn Vesperplatte (charcuterie board), The Pretzel, and a large Jägerschnitzel. The Wiesn Vesperplatte was great filled with some of my favorite meats and cheeses: Ziegenkase Herbed Goat, Genoa Salami, Smoked Gouda, Emmentaler, Mortadella, Prosciutto. You can't go wrong with it when going with a group. The Pretzel is a must of course. Perfectly cooked and fluffy. The Brown Mustard it comes with is very good but when you are getting a pretzel you have to get the Bier Cheese. Yes, it is extra but it was worth it. The 10oz Jägerschnitzel is my favorite when it comes to Schnitzel. The Mushroom Gravy is creamy and just takes it to the next level. We did get the gravy on the side because some of the friends we were with had never had it but they gave us plenty for dipping and they loved it. I will say it is pricey at $37 but with a group it's great to share. We of course will be back since we are huge fans of German food and beer and unfortunately there just aren't many options for that in Jacksonville. We of course will be back and once it cools down will be ready to spend sometime in the Biergarten. read more

Tonight was the night we finally went and I'm impressed. We were greeted immediately as we walked in and we decided to sit outside since it was a gorgeous night. Having been exposed to German cuisine all of my life, I am very familiar with lots of varieties of authentic German cuisine from different regions of the country, Buchner's is close but schnitzel should never be deep fried and having the breading poof up like a balloon on the plate?? Not! Authentic schnitzel should be pan fried to be crispy! The potato salad looked like yellow sliced apples and were mushy, and way too sweet with the dressing/sauce on them...again, not truly authentic German potato salad. My potato pancakes (backers) needed to be cooked longer. My leberkase was okay but was disappointed by such a small piece, and maybe save the tiny (and I'll bet expensive) quail egg with a regular egg. My pretzel was hard and probably overheated in the microwave. All in all, it was disappointing meal but was edible. Be prepared for it to be loud in the bar, and the more beer that is consumed, the louse it gets. This place DOES take reservations, and is highly recommended. Love the bathrooms!! Very clean with lots of shelves for a purse or phone, with easily reachable paper. read more

We went there for a large group gathering of 18 people. They originally would not allow us to order off the regular menu and had what they call a shadow menu. It didn't have much and so no one was happy and then they finally agreed to add Another item as an option after multiple requests/complaints. They had said for large parties they would not allow us to split up the bill per couple or individual and that they would be giving us one big bill that we would all have to figure out who owed what. To our unfortunate surprise they put a 20% automatic tip on the bills total which included tipping on the tax! We requested the manager who responded to our group and his reason for the way they do things is because it would be too much work for their waiters/waitresses to split up the bill! Needless to say, we were very disappointed with the manager's response. The food was not as good as expected so that just added to the frustration. Some of the people in our group didn't get their dinner because it wasn't oversight so they had to cook it while everyone was already served and eating. read more

We enjoyed the German singing and one of their amazingly large and declined charcuterie board, I really enjoyed the deviously sausages and mini pickles.
