The perch here is wonderful. So is there very beefy chili, but that is only served as a special occasionally. Nice folks, too.

What a cute, AUTHENTIC, wonderfully GREASY spoon place to take a driving break and get some GREAT, old-school diner food!! I first "discovered" this place a year or two ago on a road trip, but it was already closed for the evening, and I've been wanting to come back and check out this great fast-food alternative for a while!! Well, a recent trip home to NY for an early holiday visit with my family was a perfect opportunity to give this old train converted into a cozy diner a try!! We got there on right at about 11:30 a.m., and were happy to have beaten the lunch crowd. You order from a menu posted over the cash register in the entry, then find your seat in the dining car. There's a pretty standard selection of burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, and fries. The Mr. loved the HUGE quantity of fries that came with his swiss and onion burger, and as much as I coveted that same mountain of fries, I subbed it out for a tossed salad with my philly cheese steak. Quick service, reasonable prices, AWESOME decor, including tons of OSU memorabilia, what more could you ask for?!? Wish we lived closer, we'd be back often. If you're in the area, or just passing through, this is 1000% better than any boring, nearby fast food option. Just be sure to check their hours, and come HUNGRY!!! read more

As a fan of OSU, and an even bigger fan of kitsch, I was excited to come here. The converted train car was a really unique dining experiThe staff was very friendly and attentive, and I loved looking at all the Buckeye memorabilia decorating the walls. The best thing my party ate was the fried mushrooms (not pictured). My patty melt, for which I had high hopes, was cooked to death and the bread seemed stale. The sweet potato fries were overcooked and over-sugared. The Mac and cheese was a bit slimy. The BLT came on soggy bread but had a very generous portion of bacon. Quirky lol place we spotted up a hill from the road. We were on a road trip and were hungry so we drove up the hill, by the tepee and Native American Indian on horseback statue. Lll The restaurant was in a train. Literally. There is Ohio state kitsch everywhere. Big fans. You go in the door. Order your food and they bring it to you. Interesting. The quantity of food is more than enough. The fries were delicious, especially with the malt vinegar. My husband ordered the Firecracker. He said it was really good. My son ordered chicken wrap and macaroni and cheese. He left nothing on his plate. I ordered the fried pollock sandwich. The only complaint I had was the batter needed to be seasoned. Cute little diner, great food. We had a burger and Turkey/Bacon Sub. They came with fries. The fries were also delicious, boardwalk style fries and they even have the vinegar on the table for them. Hostess told us orders only accepted until 715pm. Great little diner. Have stopped on multiple occasions when traveling through the area. The burgers are tasty and the prices reasonable. Like the name implies- there is memorabilia of all things Ohio State. The train theme of the diner includes the option of dining on an actual train car. Decent place for a one-time visit. The kids enjoyed the experience and the staff was friendly. Food was overpriced and it appears from the online menus, prices have increased significantly in the past 3 years, up 40%. The cheeseburger on Yelp shows $8.99, but the price is now $12.59. Among other increases, expect to spend 50% more than anticipated. If you're on a budget, don't trust the menu pictures online when researching a trip there. The bathroom door knob was about to fall off, so it didn't feel safe to have a quick moment of privacy. We stumbled across this place on our way to Cleveland from Indianapolis. It was unique. It is an actual train car. They even had a sleep car with a table set up in it. There is Ohio State memorabilia all over the place. At first my wife did not want to go in because she was a Michigan Wolverine, but she got over whatever fan thing she had to get over and we went in. Outside of the train gimmick the food was excellent. You place your order at the counter then pick a table. They bring your order to your table. I had the horse radish burger with bacon and it was delicious. It was a little longer wait than comparable restaurants for our food and it was also a bit pricey, but the food was good and the staff was very friendly. They even had a small train that kids could play on outside and they had a rope that you could pull to sound the train whistle (after putting in 25 cents) and another rope that you could pull to ring the bell for free. I highly recommend this place (even if you are not a Buckeyes fan). This is a must stop if you are in the area (or even close), especially if you have little kids. My daughter was thoroughly entertained and did not want to leave. To top it off, the food is very good. One of the best burgers I have had. read more

The food is excellent and very fresh. When passing by Belleville, OH I would recommend stopping by even for the experience in dining inside a railroad car. Ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger and it was amazing along with a side order of home fries. In addition, I ordered the peanut butter/chocolate cheesecake and that was delicious. Good for being in the middle of no where Ohio. I thought my pizza burger was 2-3mins over cooked but still edible if a tad past well done is your thing. I can always trust Yelp to point me in the right direction. We were in town and looking for a quick lunch place and this place popped up. It's called the Buckeye Express and once you get there you find out why it's called the Buckeye Express because I could be fairly certain they're not Michigan fans LOL It's an old time steam locomotive with a tender and a car with a caboose. It's attached to a permanent structure style building which in houses the kitchen and bathrooms. I talked to the owner he did say that the landlord found the train in Virginia and shipped it up to Ohio and he relocated his restaurant there 9 years ago. Overall it's pretty neat to be in an old-time actual train car. There are televisions and Buckeyes paraphernalia hanging around. Their specialty are burgers but I had a grilled chicken sammy which was delicious. And not normally a fan of flat top grilled chicken. My only complaint was the fries were fresh cut and they were a tad overcooked and we're pretty greasy but would not accept any vinegar which is kind of my thing. We read on a review site their burgers were amazing ... so we did a road trip to go there. Both of our burgers were overcooked/dry, and the fries were greasy. Other than knowing you walked into a railroad car to eat, it really didn't look like one on the inside. More so just a long skinny room with lots of 8x10 framed train photos on the walls. You order and pay at a counter as soon as you walk in (which they still have up the COVID plexiglass divider, weird). The only "service" is someone bringing your order out, and taking away the plastic food baskets and plastic silverwear when you're done. Their prices are a little high for the experience. This diner is one of the filthiest places we have eaten in a long time. There were more flies than diners. The food tastes like fair food. If you go near the train engine outside, you better have a tetanus shot. As far as service goes, you basically serve yourself. You order at a counter, get your own drink and seat yourself if you are able to find a clean table. The torn gravel driveway is another sign you should dine elsewhere. Such a cute idea for a restaurant! My husband works on the railroad so we were drawn to this place. Good bar type food, at a good price. Nothing was too out of this world with flavor. My salad could use a few more vegetables and a little fresher lettuce. The whole place could definitely use a scrub down too. I lost my appetite a few times after seeing some of the filth they allowed in the bathroom and dining areas I would hate to see the cleanliness of the kitchen. Our party of 3 had not been there in years, 1 was a first time visitor. First impression when getting out of the car was a feeling that the outside needed updated and refreshed. Going inside further showed a need for updating. Service when ordering went smooth, food arrived timely. Nice portions of food, friendly wait staff. Flies were an issue during our meal. I got the 1/2 lb bacon cheeseburger with fresh cut fries and my wife got the 1/2lb mushroom and swiss both burgers and fries were amazing but the appetizers we ordered were nasty at best, we got the fried pickles and they were so over cooked that the breading had crumbled off half of them before they got to the table and the onion rings were almost as bad . This is the perfect diner to have next door to Splash Harbor. My kids loved it. A real train to ring the bell plus a tiny play train to climb all over next to the real thing. The train car seating was full so we had to sit around the corner in the regular section, but my kids didn't even notice or care because they were in the train restaurant. Once inside you place your order at the front cashier station then you pick your table and shortly after your food gets delivered to you.
