This company is far from a professional service. One hand does not interact with the other, communication is terrible and nothing is easy about working with this company. Multiple visits, didn't know what they were doing...replacing parts one after another...trying to run down problems they were creating at big cost to me...Ultimately, they walked away saying they were done and the furnace still wasn't working, but were glad to come and install a new one for me at big price tag...I then hired National Refrigeration who came and fixed the issue Buckley created in 1 hour and a very reasonable low cost...wish I could give a minus stars review... read more

This group uses some very sketchy business practices. Most recently, they sent us a bill for a service contract for the coming year that we never ordered and didn't want. We would recommend that people "steer clear." There are many other companies that are truly local and are honest, reliable and have much better prices for oil and propane. read more

I tried and tried to give these guys a chance. But the reality is that their technicians do not have enough technical expertise to properly diagnose and make the necessary repairs. I have a 8 year old boiler that was overheating one of the zones. I called them initially for a service call and they stated that a zone valve was stuck and they manually unstuck the valve. I was enrolled in a service agreement with them so thankfully it was fully covered. After a few hours it was evident that the fix didn't work. They came back out a few days later and said the motor on the valve has to be replaced. Okay cool. Quick fix. After a few hours it was evident that the fix didn't work. They came back and wasn't exactly sure what to do. But said the actual mechanical valve should be replaced. Okay I said let's schedule it. Another technician came out and said he didn't think the mechanical valve change will work and pretty much left. I had to call the manager and ask why they would schedule a valve change and not actually do it. Personally I think they forgot to order the part. Okay whatever. They scheduled it. Finally a technician came out and changed the actual zone valve. Technician said I was good to go. After a few hours it was evident the repair didn't work. I called and asked that they send an experienced tech. A few days he came out and stated that another taco zone valve seemed to be broken and replaced it. He said he was very confident that this would fix it. After a few hours it was evident the repair didn't work. Catch the drift? What's the point in signing up for a service agreement when they cannot solve the problem. And the service agreement is highly suspect. Parts prices are inflated gigantically so their quote on quote discount with no diagnostic fees and after hours fees are all bs. I ended up calling Sunshine Oil Company out of Bristol RI. These guys fixed the problem in one shot and prices were very reasonable. read more

Forget this business. Last winter they tried charging me for propane that was not delivered. Lucky I was home when the truck came. The driver checked the tank and left without rolling the hose out. I got a bill a week later. I wonder how many times that happens and the customer doesn't catch it? They mock up 200 percent for simple replacements like air filters. That's a big time price gouge and a sure sign of a failing business. They don't keep to their appointments and they don't call you when they're running late. They have absolutely no customer appreciation. They think your time is not important much like the doctors offices that over-book and then leave you sitting and waiting for extended periods of time. We had a service contract with them for 2+ years and then finally switched companies...it was a huge mistake to keep them as long as we did. At the time I thought paying more for fuel and having a contract with them would give me peace of mind. Find someone else. I was recently charged $1.00 a gallon over the prevailing rate for heating oil. This is just price gouging of their customers. As for plumbing, I have had them do work on my oil burner and almost every time (unless it was just routine maintenance) it took longer than expected. I had an indirect water heater put in by them, and it took them over a month to complete the job. I have a current problem right now and I cancelled my contract with them just so that I can have anyone but them come and take a look at the problem. read more

Buckley Heating is trying hard to dig themselves out of years of poor reviews from unhappy customers. I have service contracts with Buckley on multiple boilers. They have responded quickly to and resolved satisfactorily multiple emergency (eg no heat) calls. They made appointments and showed up to perform maintenance work. Their technicians appeared to be qualified and communicated well with me. I'm 2 years in to the maintenance contracts. No complaints. read more

We switched to Buckley from another local company 10+ years ago. Everything was pretty good until more recent years, as other reviews suggest. We have a toddler and recently our wall-mounted thermostat stop functioning and our heater would not turn on. Requested for a service via their website -- no response. Called the office and was promised a call back -- no call back. Another call and got an appointment, but got cancelled on the day b/c their technicians aren't available anymore. Couldn't reschedule on the spot b/c they need to check with the technicians, and promised to call back. Still no call back. Fortunately, it has been fairly warm these couple of days but it is expected to become cold in coming days. It is extremely frustrating that they keep breaking their promises to call back, while my family endure cold nights. It was not like this before, but then I found these more recent reviews here and elsewhere -- and, unfortunately, they did not surprise me. So I averaged the review to cover their repair/maintenance services and their pricing. First the good. We have a service plan with them, and have used it a number of times. The techs are always helpful, friendly, and have been on time for us. We've had no problems with the service, and appreciate their accessibility round the clock. BUT.....their service plan requires you to buy their oil, which gets us to the bad. THEIR PRICES SUCK! I just got my tank filled yesterday, 12th October 2022, and they charged me $6.609 per gallon for fuel that "may contain up to 20% biofuel." When I went online to a local competitor, they are charging $4.87 per gallon. $1.74 difference? So my "full" tank (they ever only fill to 3/4) cost $280 more than it would have with a different local company. Over the course of the winter, that's going to add up to about $1500 extra. Not sure their service plan (which is not cheap either) is worth it.....take the $2000+ in savings and used that as an in house emergency repair fund. One final note, it would be nice if they would tell you what they are going to take you for with their oil pricing when you order a delivery. The only way you can find out what they're charging is to call the office and get someone. Although, with their prices, I can see why they would hesitate to publicize it. Could not be less impressed by this company. Failed to deliver propane while we are on an automatic refill plan. Propane ran out and they told us it would be a week to get us heat in mid January. My elderly parents are full time Narragansett residents and have been longtime customers of Buckley. (50+ years) They called over a month ago with central A/C problems. (Leaky air handler) 3 service calls and a month later the A/C is still not working. Buckley has not responded to their follow up calls for an update. They have had NO A/C for the entire month of July with temps in the mid 90's. I finally took it upon myself to call customer service and spoke to Ellen who said she'd have a Field Manager call me back immediately. (I'm still waiting for that return phone call). It is a shame a company treats longtime customers this way, especially elderly customers who have given them tens of thousands of dollars of business over the years. Do yourself a favor and find another HVAC company. 8/20/20 Review Update - Upon seeing my Yelp review, I was contacted 2 days later by Petro Home Services. Apparently they are the new owners of Buckley Heating and Cooling. They sent out a master plumber the following day to provide a temporary fix to get the A/C up and running, while my parents waited for a part to be ordered and installed. After about 3 weeks, the AC been repaired and is running as normal. They also provided my parents with some credits for previous work that was unsuccessful. Absolutely no local contact to help resolve problems and on several occasions have tried to charge for " Inspections" which they initiate and are completely unnecessary. Have spent hours on the phone with random customer service reps who typically are pleasant, but they have no authority to resolve problems. Prices are not competitive, and you get locked in to staying with them as they hit you with additional fees if you try to leave. read more

A tech calls me at 10:00am to service the boiler but the house in question is 35 minutes away and has a tenant. Later, I call to find they rescheduled me for 4:00. At 3:00, someone calls me to cancel completely. Thus, my busy tenant and I have just wasted the entire day. They now want to reschedule after ruining my entire day. My propane does my water, heat, grill and gas cooking stove. This was in March before all the craziness started. Customer for 11 years. Zero stars. They delivered oil to my house last week without notice despite having asked to receive a courtesy notice via phone, text or email the day prior. They charged me 5.09 a gallon. It cost $700 to fill half of my oil tank. I called to have them explain this price to me...They said my cost is based on my usage. I'm a single mom of one who keeps the heat at 62 when away and never higher than 67 with a Nest thermostat. My oil is only for heat. When I asked them to explain what that meant they put me on hold for 5 minutes. When they returned they told me they have submitted my request to cancel my service with them. I am outraged. He was courteous, explaining everything he was doing and the area was cleaned to perfection before he left. Great work by this young man. Horrible company! Over a dollar a gallon more expensive than anywhere else eg: $7.38 last week when the cash on delivery prices are $5 and change. If you suspend an automatic delivery, you will get a call from the dreaded "Loyalty Department" who will try to bully you. Just called customer service and she couldn't tell me what their oil or propane prices are today. Said it's because she is at a call center in Long Island. We got the same ridiculous "notice" that Buckley was going to start charging $99 annually if you didn't use a minimum amt of propane. We agreed to get Buckley propane tanks installed when we had them install our backup Generac generator. (The installation was a mess in terms of scheduling etc. but the generator has been fine). So we have their tanks and may not use the minimum since the generator doesn't use much to run it's self-test. As someone else mentioned in their review, this new policy backdates to 2023. If we had known this we wouldn't have had them do the installation and wouldn't have agreed to get their propane tanks. Now we feel stuck with it. We have 1 more year on the generator 2 year "free service contract" and then we will give up on Buckley for good. We already dropped them from oil and HVAC . I don't know why anyone keeps putting up with this group. JUST AWFUL. read more

Would give ZERO or less stars. Set up an account for gas last march, and also had a guy come over and help me with bleeding my heat (This first part is nowhere near the worst, so read on after)--we figured out there was a broken pipe in one zone. We didn't use that part of the house at that time so they guy sweat cutoff valves on the zone. Done deal right? I redid the heating in that zone a couple of weeks ago, over 30 sweat joints, none of mine leak. Turned on the circulation to that zone and the valve the guy sweat on there starts pissing water. What kind of "professional" can't sweat a pipe?? WORSE: They had an outstanding balance on our account, never sent a bill and within 3 weeks of it sent it to collections! AND terminated my account. I paid off the collection people and then went IN PERSON to the office to correct the misunderstanding. They assured me that they were setting up a new account. Never got called back. Last week I went again IN PERSON to the office to see if they could get me some heating oil. Account was not "set up" so I gave them 450 cash to put in the tank. Delivery guy called me up to ask if he should fill it. I told him JUST PUT THE 450 IN. He showed up the next day when I wasn't home and filled the tank, so even though my account wasn't "set up" (WTF??) he put in 526.10 worth of oil. Not that I mind, was going to bring them down a check for the difference tomorrow anyway. WORST: Today they came when the baby sitter was here and asked her where the gas tank was--she called me to confirm, and I assumed my account was finally "set up" (WTF) and maybe he was checking the gas level in preparation for a delivery. I get home tonight at 7:30 from work and my wife tells me "they shut off our gas." I go outside and THEY HAD TAKEN THE DAMN GAS TANK. Luckily we use the gas only for the stove, but we have 3 kids and can't now cook for them. THERE'S SOMETHING HORRIBLY WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

I'm very disappointed at the price gouging that is happening. I was charged $5.75 a gallon when COD averaged $4 the same time frame. I called customer service to ask not to receive automatic delivery to find out that if I stop automatic delivery then they have to cancel my entire service agreement that I just renewed in January and paid almost $400 for. We were without hot water and heat for ten days with not one person getting back to us with status!!! we had to call several times and re explain our issue. We have a gas boiler and they had us down for issue with propane tank. I can't say enough good things about Buckley Heating and Cooling! I will be a future customer for all of my HVAC needs. I contacted Buckley less than a week ago about a mini split ductless system for my basement. Bill, responded very timely and scheduled an on site visit. Bill was prompt, professional and emailed me a quote within 24 hours. He was able to accommodate my request for install. The installers (Kevin and I am sorry I forgot the second Technicians name) were prompt, professional and left the site in perfect condition. No additional clean up by me was needed. The system is up and running, less than a week after my first contact. Impressive! read more

The only thing we have that uses propane is the heater for the pool. We didn't use it for a couple of years because, well, propane is expensive. With the stimulus money last year, we decided to spend it on something we wouldn't normally do and, with a local business. We got propane through Buckley. They filled us up and lit the pilot light for us. I don't like messing with propane. This year, more stimulus so, more propane from a local business. I emailed them to see if they'd light the pilot too. They said they would. I wasn't home when they delivered. When I got home, the pilot wasn't lit. I emailed them asking if there was an issue or, if it wouldn't light for them. Here's the response I got: "If there is an issue with your pilot you would need to have a service technician come to diagnosis the problem. Do you need a technician?" I replied: "There shouldn't be anything wrong with the pilot. I paid $900 last year to get the heater going" Their response: "Ok great... then you should be all set." They're kind of missing the point here. They said they would light the pilot and they didn't even attempt to. UPDATE: They called to clarify their policy. If a driver comes to fill the tank and the tank is empty, they will light the pilot after they fill it. We still had 20% fuel in our tank when they filled it so they didn't light the pilot. They say "It's a safety issue". I'm not sure how it makes a difference if the tank was previously 20% full or not. The tank is still 100% full when the driver lights the pilot, right? I honestly thought they were calling me to say "We told you we'd light the pilot so we're sending someone out to light the pilot". I don't understand the safety thing. Every year when the pool is closed, they shut the gas off at the heater and shut the valves off on the tanks. The pilot goes out. When the pool is opened, turn on the gas and light the pilot. read more

I have been with Buckley since the Buckley family owned it. They prided themselves on customer service and every encounter was pleasurable. They have since been bought out by Petro and their service has been so horribly terrible that I would rather gt a root canal than deal with these morons. First they messed up my propane account resulting in a large bill that I still do not believe was mine. They decide they wanted cash on delivery in order to provide propane. It was more convenient for me to simply deposit $1400.00 on my account to insure monthly deliveries with no worries. yeah right. They then update their online portal and since that point it has been virtually impossible to track my balance or usage. For the last 9 months I have been told that they were working on the website and it would be fully functional within 1 days. More lies, its been almost 9 months. For convenience sake I decided to get oil from them also. Another fiasco, they quote the most expensive oil prices in Rhode Island. When I questioned this they offered me a price $.90 cents less than the original. I agreed to sign a service agreement for oil. two days later I received a call saying they needed permission to pull a credit report. I asked why it was necessary since I maintain a credit balance on the account in excess of two tank fills. I was told that he didn't know why but that they were not interested in y business if they could not pull the report or I could pay the current street price, a dollar more than the cheapest available. I opted to get my oil elsewhere and instructed them to refund the credit balance on my account. If they didn't want to [rovde my oil there was no rationale to allow them to keep my money and earn interest in it. Was told it would take 7-10 days to receive the check. That was on 4/16. Today is 5/4 still no check. I called and after voicing my concerns was placed in hold and then disconnected. I called back and spoke with a different person, who told me I had a positive credit on my account of $77.00. I voiced my concerns as the entire amount was supposed to be refunded, I had not authorized them to keep any of it. She also could give me no information on the whereabouts of my $600.00. She offered to email internally a sales rep, for what reason I do not know. She promised me that someone would call me promptly. I would avoid doing business with these thieves under any circumstances. They are sooo nice until they get your money then they dont give two shits about you. Do Business with them at your own risk. I will wait 24 hours then file complaints with the state division of business regulation and the BBB. I had to rate one star but they are not even worth that! Update: I finally got a call back and low and behold I have been waiting over two weeks for a check that they never sent. The excuse they gave was feeble at best. I made it clear that I expected them to cut the check and send it certified and registered in overnight mail since they wasted my time for over two weeks. Jenna, thank you for the response to my original post. What you can do is expedite my almost 700$ check. If you wish to speak to me you can try the number associated with my account. FYI after the first call I received a call from someone who claimed to be with customer service. I spent over 20 minutes with her on the phone and outlined everything and also gave her several suggestions on improving customer service. Obviously that was a waste of my time also, as the check was never sent. I will say one nice thing. My propane, on automatic delivery, works like clockwork. At this point I will retain your propane service because quite frankly it is not worth the time to change to another vendor. Update: I spoke with Buckley today and a lot of misinformation was cleared up. Actually spoke with someone in the local office who took a huge amount of time and answered all of my questions. I will remain a customer as they acknowledged the limitations of their credit department which is located somewhere closer to the midwest. Upgraded rating as a result. read more

Several days later I received a phone call from a woman who identified herself as being from Petro. She inquired if I intended to keep my followup appointment at $95 plus tax on July 26th, to which I expressed my complete shock and an absolute "no". She asked again being sure to mention the $95 plus tax charge--I provided the same response. She seemed indignant at my response and hung up the phone. Kudos to Bill Riely and the crew at Buckley Heating and Cooling. I recently remodeled my house in Charlestown,RI. I contacted Buckley and was connected with Bill Riley. Buckley installed a 500 gallon tank ( looks like a mini sub) but low and behold the tank was a little tilted and grungy looking. I contacted Bill and he promised come spring it would all be straightened out. Low and behold a crew showed up yesterday, in the middle of a Pandemic and spent the better part of a day leveling and powerwashing the LP Tank. Most places would stop there but to my surprise this morning another of the crew Painted the tank White to match my Trim and Vinyl Fence. Talk about over the top in service and customer expectations. Forget the multinational conglomerates. Stick with Buckley Heating and Cooling. Hats off to Bill and his service crew!!!! read more

This company are liars and will bully the corporate will upon the customer instead of doing the right thing. Reading several other dissatisfied reviews there is a common theme. They do what they want, charge you for their communication mistakes, then bully you when you call them out. Advice, if you do choose them, get anything in writing and do not expect the customer service on the other end of the phone to be competent. Took them around 2 months to install my new Heating and cooling system. When they put venting in took them 3 times to get it right. Went 2 weeks in the hottest part of the summer with no air, 3 days with no hot water ( they messed up so bad they ended up replacing my hot water tank for free). Then when all is suppose to be done and right inspector comes and they have to come back to fix a vent. When I try turning furnace on for the 1st time in Oct nothing, they have to come back and fix that. I have a playroom and a craft room in my basement, and while the kids and I have been down there I have been telling my hubby I smell something he would go down and say he didn't smell anything but then he was down there one day working and he could smell it so he decided to spray the lines and he found a gas leak (We have been trying to figure out why my blood pressure has been off the roof and I always have a headache, falling to sleep at weird times). So we call Buckley and they say they will not even send anyone until the fire department makes sure it is safe for them to enter. Fire department comes makes sure the gas is off and clears the house. We call Buckley back at 12:23 and they tell us some one will be there between 1 and 4 which means no heat until the problem is fixed and I have a 5, 4 and 2 year old. His thoroughness, attention to detail, his willingness to explain what he did and needed to do was remarkable. I have used Buckley heating the first time back in June. They installed two boilers at one of my rental properties. I had multiple quotes from different companies, Buckley was the second lowest, however, I liked their service and asked the rep if they could match the price. Not only they matched the price, they also gave me a little more discount. They installed the boilers in a very timely manner and cleaned up right after them. Very impressed. The second time I used them was in November on my primary home, they showed up the same day and fixed the issue. Again very impressive service. I am extremely disappointed with Buckley, for multiple reasons. Recently, we had instructed the delivery man to only fill our tank halfway since we were moving out at the end of the month and our lease only requires a half tank fill. He did not communicate this with his managers, and they came out the following week and filled out the rest of our tank. We were given no notification about this second fill even though we received an email for the first fill. Customer service agreed with us that this was a communication error from the driver and the fault was in their system; yet, they are still charging us for the second fill. They said they would call back in one day to confirm...it has been a week and we still haven't heard from them. The company has shown inconsistency, poor communication, and a lack of responsibility. I would highly recommend looking for another oil company. As my roommate described, Buckley seems like a "predatory" company and are not committed to their customers as a business should. read more

Hired Buckley to install the new Mitsubishi mini splits for our home. They installed what I was asking for and made suggestions but didn't oversell me on things I didn't need (I had 2 other companies supply estimates who did just that). First and foremost there needs to be a quicker response time. After my initial call at 11 pm (on hold for 20+ min), where I expressed urgency as the house smelled as if there was a gas leak and was told to call the fire dept, I was assured someone would be here before 1:30 am to check the tanks. We relayed information to Buckley from the fire dept that there was a small leak and the gas was turned off. At 1 am there was a cancellation and we were told someone would be by in the morning. We went the whole night with no heat, it dropped to below 50. not until AFTER the landlord called Buckley did we get a serviceman after 11 am (on a weekday) .. This would have never been a problem if we got our propane delivery like we should have as we are signed up for automatic delivery! Now 5 hours after the initial man showed up we are still waiting on someone to fill the nearly empty tank (the first serviceman put 8 gallons in so we could have heat). While the people we dealt with were helpful, they seemed to not have a lot of information to give us, signaling there is serious administrative work and increase an in communication that needs to be done within this company. read more
