I recently went to Buck's for a Sunday lunch for the first time in years with my family. We all had a great meal with excellent service, great food, and fantastic outdoor seating which is dog friendly so our English Cream Golden was able to join us too, who the waitress brought water for . The entire experience was a notch better than what I remember pre Covid. I ordered the Benedict vs Florentine which was well cooked but particular kudos to the chef for the side of potatoes (which most places treat like an after thought). I happen to be in the area and I was super hungry. I remember this place was on 85 and decided to stop by. They currently have a bunch of outside eating and indoors is also open. The girlfriend ordered a chicken sandwich that she really enjoyed and I ordered the crab stuffed artichoke and beat salad. I don't know what kind of sauce/aïoli is on that artichoke, but damn is it good! If there's one thing I love is a good beat salad. All the ingredients were there on this one, but there was a little too much salad for my taste. It would've been perfect with less salad, more arugula and more beets and pears. If you eat inside, you will be blown away by all the memorabilia and decor. There is a ton of history and just a bunch of stuff to look at! It's a fun little spot. Had lunch outdoors. When ordering at the window, the woman taking orders was very helpful. I was interested in the Crispy Chicken Salad, but didn't want the breading. I was going to order a different salad but she offered to substitute grilled chicken for me. Perfect! Our orders didn't take very long. My salad was good sized, and especially liked that it wasn't drenched in dressing - just enough to keep it moist, and it allowed the other flavors to come thru. LOVED the combination of the crunchy almonds, the sweetness of the chopped dates, the tender leaves of lettuce, the creaminess of the goat cheese against the tangy dressing. The only item that didn't suit me were the cherry tomatoes - usually I love them, but they didn't work for me In this salad - easy enough to ignore them though! Spouse had the Mushroom Rueben Sandwich, which he devoured. I had a few of his fries, which were tasty and crisp. This is a comfortable country diner, decorated with lots of interesting artifacts. We ordered vegetarian omelette and eggs benedict. The spinach and roasted tomatoes that were used in the omelette and eggs benedict were both premade mashes instead of freshly prepared spinach and tomatoes. This was a big disappointment. They definitely lowered the quality and expectation of the egg dishes. The stand-out of both the dishes was the roasted (fried) potatoes. It took me a few times to "get" this place but now that I have, I love it. I love the kitschy decor, I love the retro salad with iceberg lettuce and other tasty things like garbanzo beans and the best garlicky dressing, and I love that this is my favorite burger almost anywhere. Menú for breakfast was limited but enough to pick something out. Strong coffee, good looking shakes. Overall priced a little high but I guess it's California. Attentive waiter, interesting items displayed throughout the restaurant. I had the Ranchero Bowl with avocado and the $3 for avocado was not worth it. It was just ok. Little Buck plate was enough but the amount of potatoes served was not enough. Side order of potatoes for $6 was not worth the price but they were good and crunchy. You can see it from the side of the road. It's in a plaza with other shops with shared parking lot. Parking for weekend brunch is very difficult to find. Come here more for the the quirky diner vibes than the food. Food was ok. It came out hot and well cooked, however nothing stood out for me and it was very overpriced. Lots of flies and bugs when seated outdoors, constantly had to swat them away from my food and drinks. They do have picnic tables so great for large groups. read more

An iconic institution! It's enough that the space is beautiful and ornate! Add to that the kind wonderful staff. The warm cozy atmosphere. And the surprisingly delicious food. I think their pizza beats Delfina. Their tacos beat lulus and Tacolicious. And they are the only ones who have big hearty salads.. Top it off with a chocolate shake and you are golden!! read more

One tip to start out with, is make sure that you are leaving enough time to find a parking space. The parking lot across the street is a members only parking lot with security guard. For the best thing to do is go into another parking lot or hit the back and wait for about 5 to 10 minutes for someone to leave. Another thing too is that the outdoor seating is super crowded and the indoor seating is plenty fine with lots of great booth seating with some great window views. The bloody Mary's are to die for! I'm definitely gonna go back and I'm gonna have the eggs Benedict with a beautiful side salad and he's amazing looking crispy potatoes that go with it. I had a Ranchero Bowl and it was ok. The waiters and waitresses are working super hard and right now with limited supplies, you might not get everything you want. Came here for brunch a few months back but never got around to writing a review. We loved their revamped menu! We got the Eggs Benedict, Fish Tacos, Fried Chicken Sando, Mac n Cheese, and Brussels Sprouts. Everything came out quickly and the food was great! Not amazing, but definitely up there. The milkshakes here are really good too. There's also plenty of outdoor seating (with umbrellas too for shade) and the wait times usually aren't bad. We got here around 11am on a weekend and only had to wait less than 10 minutes. read more

The server and manager told me they do not have a no protein option (no chicken) for the Fettuccini Alfredo. I was that the last 3 times I have been there, the servers all confirmed that there was now a no protein option for both the Chinese Chicken salad and the Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo. But the manager even called the owner, (supposedly) and said that they told him this time only they would reduce the bill for no chicken. ($3) The money end foes not bother me but wasting food I will not eat bothers me a lot. Up until recently Buck's has had NO vegetarian option. If you opted to have the protein withheld you were still charged full price. When I heard that they had now had a no protein option I praised them. It now opened up their menu options to include vegetarian options. Me, I am not vegetarian but sometimes just do not the meat. But now the stance of Buck's is pretty much no vegetarian option. They sure do not care about offering dishes that will please ALL their customers. read more

Buck's has a great decore and I had a killer smash burger. The service was excellent.

I've eaten at Buck's many times over many years but this visit hit new lows for food, service, and bathroom cleanliness. My elderly companions both ordered the Seafood Stuffed Artichokes, which were so undercooked that the leaves were inedible. It took the server more than 20 minutes to check back and ask how the meals were. When I told the him the artichokes were undercooked and too tough to eat, he said "oh, sorry." then disappeared for another 20 minutes. I had to go to the hostess to ask for a spoon to scrape out the seafood for my companions and for extra napkins as they made a mess trying to pull apart the tough greens. I went to wash my hands and discovered one of the bathrooms was out of TP and the trash can was overflowing all over the floor. I returned to the table to find that the double espressos we'd ordered had arrived without spoons, or sugar, and one of the espressos had been spilled all over the saucer during delivery. I pointed this out to the new server who had taken over our table (after the first guy vanished). She simply handed over a setup from another table with sugar packets, and took the saucer away, leaving the drippy cup on a napkin. She never brought the spoons, or the replacement saucer. I had to pull place settings from a nearby table so my companions could stir in the sugar with knives, and I could wipe the spilled coffee off the table. On third request, someone else brought a new saucer and allowed that she could replace the espresso (too little, too late). We were celebrating the 90th birthday of an elderly friend (mentioned in the reservation, to the hostess, and when we asked for dessert menus). We even asked for a candle on the dessert she ordered. Although the server acknowledged the request, she did nothing to honor it. But in the end, I was handed a $120 bill for three people, full charges despite the issues we had called out (and not even a courtesy dessert for the birthday girl). The server even had the gall to pre-set an 18% tip on the credit card machine then stand right over my shoulder to see if I'd change the tip rate as I signed the receipt. I didn't ask for a manager to complain because it would have embarrassed the birthday girl who doesn't get to go out much. I hope she will forget the bad food and worse service. I've been looking forward to try this place as it's a Silicon Valley legend and it boasts eccentric and eclectic decorations. The inner decor is indeed fun and I took a self-guided tour as I waited for the food, the kids are having fun playing scavenger hunt as well. Foodwise, it's traditional American fair, I tried the impossible burger for the first time, it's quite interesting. As I came on Saturday night, diners are mostly Woodside locals: family and senior citizens. It's not exactly the SV vibe I was expecting. It's a fun experience after all. read more

Buck's is a "historical landmark" in Woodside famous for meetings that were had and their kitchy, unusual decor which is plastered all over their walls, ceilings, and tables. The food is on the expensive side (my filet mignon sandwich was $21) while being incredibly mediocre. I'm not really sure why anyone would pay this much for sub-par food except that there aren't many brunch options in the area and Woodside Bakery (next door) has 1+ hour waits. It's pretty festive atmosphere. Kids, cyclist, couples and just a gamut of different groups made this place quite lively! The decor was eclectic. We ordered the Pumpkin Pancake with a side of bacon and the Devine's omelette. My pancake had the strong pumpkin flavor that I was aiming for. The omelette was not bad.
