For being in the boonies parking here is a bitch. Never once have I ever found a spot in the lot and always end up on the street. Ok, the negativity of the review is now out of the way and I can move on with my bad self and talk up Bucks. This is the only place where you can see airplanes hanging from the ceilings, chow down on some of the best eggs benedict and have a Michelle Pfeiffer sighting all at the same time. I learned about this place from a friend who used to be a waitress here. So my wife and I made the trip up the hill to check it out and we were not at all disappointed. The breakfast menu is massive and includes all your traditional favorites and plenty more. The ingredients are fresh and the coffee strong. Keep in mind that Bucks is also open for dinner and the menu looks fantastic and I will for sure be paying another visit soon. read more

I used to talk about Buck's as a must-see place for out-of-towners. Now I think it has become complacent, a tourist trap, and a rip off. Today I stopped by to pick up a milkshake to go. I checked the web site on the way there, and it listed "HUGE MILKSHAKES OR MALTS" for $8.00. With Buck's reputation, and generous breakfasts I previously experienced, I was expecting something big and unique for that price. It ended up being the same size as a medium coke at McDonald's. And they charged me $9.00 for it. When I enquired about the discrepancy, they shrugged at me saying the web site's not up to date. I didn't insist, but you'd think they'd do a gesture and make it right. The shake was actually pretty good (not exceptional), but I felt cheated by the false advertising and lack of caring by the staff. I will no longer be singing Buck's praises. read more

Stopped by late Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of choice in seating and parking. Large outdoor area had good options for sun and shade - great for an afternoon beer and long lunch. While the menu is shorter than in the past, food and service were both great. It was a fun trip down memory lane. The eclectic decor is just the same!!! read more

It was a dark and stormy night last Thursday. A friend flew in from Southern California, and I took her up to Buck's. For a change, parking was easy, and there were only a handful of diners inside. We were seated right away. The server said they would be closing early because of the storm. My friend had the fish tacos, and I had the grilled chicken "sando." My only regret is that I'm a traveler and don't live here to come back often. Do come early they fill up fast. super cute cafe in the heart of woodside! i came here with a dozen friends after finishing a scenic run/hike in nearby wunderlich park. since most of us did the 10mi route, we were quite exhausted and hungry after our workout. those who finished a bit earlier (the speedier folks) went to get a table, but i was told they waited quite a while, at least :30 for a large table. but fortunately, our party was able to have 2 adjacent tables, sufficient for the 13 of us. i was the last in my party to arrive, since i finished last, and took some time to stretch & cooldown, so by the time i arrived, most of my friends had already received their food. i ordered the woodsider omelette, which consisted of artichoke hearts, avocado, mushrooms, tomato & jack cheese ($14). i requested egg whites only and no cheese on the omelette. instead of home fries, i requested a side of fruit, and for my toast, i chose sourdough. the portion size was very nice, as i received a nice, fluffy omelette, generously filled with the aforementioned veggies, and a thick slice of avocado on top. the fruit looked and tasted very fresh, and i was given a variety of different fruits. the sourdough toast was pretty standard. service was a bit on the slower side, partly due to the busy sunday brunch time slot....every table was filled when my friends and i were there. it took a bit of time for me to flag someone just to take my order, and i also had to ask twice for a take out box at the conclusion of the meal. although i got lucky with parking, a spot almost right in front of the main entrance, most of my friends had to park in the rear since the front was pretty packed with both cars & bikes. overall, a great breakfast & brunch option if you're in the woodside area and suitable for smaller or larger groups. read more

I'll be real with you. This is one of my least favorite restaurants in the Bay, yet I've had to come here a few times because my mom and her friends absolutely love it. The shenanigans style decorations and collectibles are interesting and cool for a single visit, but beyond that I've never felt like this is a good restaurant at all. Let's start with what's good in terms of food: their pancakes and iced tea. It seems like their breakfast items are good, but I would highly advise against eating anything that is a lunch/dinner/meat item here. The fries are stale, the meat (sausages and burger patties) tastes weird, and the lettuce is wilted. Moreover, the service is slow and they don't bring what you asked for. If I wanted better food and service, I'd rather go to Denny's... and that's not saying much. Management, please do better. read more

This place feels like it has changed since I'd last been here years ago. The menu is different. There are fewer breakfast items than before. Also the wait staff seems to offer you an up charge on everything you order without telling you there is an extra fee. You have to ask before he will tell you what he just offered comes along at an extra cost. Echoing another reviewer, lots of flies. For a Saturday morning at prime brunch time it wasn't full and you could easily get a table. Perhaps that tells me all I need to know. That was a pain in the a**! I went ahead and ordered their special of chilaquiles. I've heard about this dish but never had the chance to try it. It was delicious. The tortillas were crispy and the green sauce was delicious. Definitely order this if it's available. Also tried their croissant french toast. It was good but could've been a bit crispier on the outside. You can do a half order if you want to add it to your meal. Husband got the ham and cheese omelet. He said it was good but how hard is it to whip up one of these? The homestyle fries were seasoned nicely. I prefer these over the hashbrowns. Service was fast and efficient. Superb friendly service. Menu with a variety of offerings. Good, quality food in a unique, historic atmosphere. Was surprised that had Numi Jasmine tea bags as it does not look like that kind of place. The fresh fish tacos were delicious. If you get a hamburger, tell them light on the sauce (or best, on the side) otherwise they put too much and the bun slides off/falls apart and you have to eat with a fork and knife. I measure by three different things in comparison to Taco Bell: Though Buck's is known for its fresh food and crazy decor, there is also some interesting facts behind this place. In the beginning of the creation of Tesla Inc., Buck's would be one of the go to meeting places of both, Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Later on Elon Musk would jump on as CEO of the company and the meetings kept continuing here. As a Tesla fan this was a must visit and my personal mecca driven by my love of the company. The mere thought of the ideas discussed here in such a cool, kooky place amazes me to no end! Another cool tidbit is that apparently Mel Gibson has eaten here several times, but I digress... DECOR: Buck's is located in a beautiful mountainous area of Woodside, California. This place is absolutely alluring filled with greenery all around with small town vibes sprinkled in with mom and pop shops. Once you go inside you're bombarded by miscellaneous items that hang all over: a zeppelin, planes, sea mammals, spacemen, and tons of other objects; think of it as a high end Silicon Valley themed T.G.I. Friday's. I loved everything about Buck's' Decor. It's a sight to see! Two stars for its amazing decorations! SERVICE: I think to the staff working I looked out of place, and I admit I felt slightly unwelcome at first, but as I was seated the service was friendly and quite attentive throughout. It wasn't very busy so disappointedly the food took longer than I anticipated considering I ordered a salad. Only one star for service here. FOOD: I ordered a dinner special of Vinaigrette Salad topped with Filet Mignon. The time waiting for my meal was the perfect for a read the entertaining menu of Buck's of Woodside. Surprisingly nice brunch, if you know what to order! I'm a French Toast expert - so of course I go that. I saw a table next to us get something with just a big pile of awesomeness. It turns out that was the Huevos Rancheros and my boyfriend's brother got that. My boyfriend got something a little plainer with the 2 by 2 by 2. Our server was really nice & friendly. She even immediately got extra strawberries when I asked for them with my French Toast, no extra charge. *French Toast (made with butterflake croissant, strawberries on the side) - Very good! Incredibly moist and soft, yet it was cooked fresh with that great slight crunch on the outside. I really enjoyed this dish. The strawberries were nice, but there wasn't very much (maybe 2 or 3 sliced up?) though our server did bring us more when I asked. However they were clearly NOT fresh - frozen & thawed, or refrigerated for a long time. *Huevors Rancheros (two soft tacos, avocado, tomatoes, sour cream, yellow rice, carrots, peas, cheese, black beans, cilantro) - Like I said, a big pile of awesomeness. The tacos were a little old and soggy, a little stale even. But all the ingredients were great all together. It was just missing some protein. *2 by 2 by 2 (2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 pieces of ham or sausage) - We replaced the sausage with chicken/apple sausage. For the life of me I couldn't taste the apple at all, nor the chicken. The pancakes were a little dry and plain. Fruit should really be a requirement when it comes to pancakes. The eggs, which we got scrambled, were fine. Not a very impressive dish. The place had a lot of "personality". Lots of mismatched chandeliers, random knickknacks, decorations, posters. Overall a little pricey ($10-$15 for each item we ordered) but meh, nothing else was open on new year's day (haha it was our 3rd choice after driving around Palo Alto a while). read more

This place is a trip. Airplanes, zeppelins, tobaggans, masks, photographs, and a slew of stuff on the ceilings and walls to look at. Reminds me a bit of a museum. Our 15 minute wait was not even that - in more like 5 minutes we were seated in a booth by the window. Perfect vantage point to watch the parking lot or examine the main dining room. The three of us ordered 1) sweet potato fries with blue cheese dip, 2) marinated flank steak salad with tomato, avocado, grilled summer peaches, roasted corn and feta cheese, 3) the savagely popular Buck's soft tacos (one chicken mole, one shredded beef), with salsa fresca, beans, rice, sour cream and guacamole, and 4) spinach salad with blue cheese, crumbled bacon, hard-boiled egg & creamy vinaigrette dressing. Food is just okay, nothing to jump up and down about. The sweet potato fries portion is a little stingy for three, but lots of dip to go with. The guys said their salads were "okay" - not bad - one said his the flank steak was cooked well, the other liked their crumbled bacon. My soft tacos were okay - the chicken was a little dry, the shredded beef was better. The guacamole was olive drab in color, not exactly appetizing. Good service, friendly staff. If anyone is listening/reading these, I think the displays could use a bit of a spring clean - the stuff overhead looked pretty dusty. I would probably not eat here again, but I might pay "admission" for a chance to look more closely at their walls. read more
