Location is excellent and service was good. However, we did not like the food at all. The restaurant is overpriced compared to its food quality. Some of their omelettes are priced at over $20, but they should really be closer to $10 when you consider the taste and the quality of their ingredients. This is my 2nd time here for breakfast but didn't get to do a review the first. Woodside is a nice location and had nice weather both times I visited. Restaurant ambiance inside reminds me of a small town diner with lots of quirky memorabilia. The outdoor seating is very nice especially with the sunny weather. They have umbrellas and rolling sun covers if it gets too sunny. Staff is very accommodating and service was quite fast. Food was awesome! There were 15 in my party and a few of us ordered the rib hash--meat was very tender and flavorful. I also tried the vegetable omelette last visit and that was pretty good (and healthy ). I stop in every time I'm in the area, and every time I learn something new. There's so much to see at Buck's, it's like a museum and depending how packed the place, you can't always see what you want. Luckily most patrons are curious too, so they don't mind you wandering around, staring at the walls as long as you give them enough space to savor their meals. Struck up many a lively conversation here. Friendly vibe here, lots of artifacts and the food is good. I wish they'd change up the menu, improve the food more, especially since the prices keep going up, but....maybe I came on an off day. read more

What a weird but charming place. It's in the small town of Woodside (is this area their downtown??). Parking lot outside shared with a few other shops. The inside is filled with all sorts of interesting memorabilia. It's like being transported back in time, and also to maybe a place like Tahoe. The place is pretty big and good for groups. The menu seemed like very average American foods - breakfast eggs pancakes, lunch sandwiches, salads, soups. I think the only thing that keeps me from giving it four stars is that it's on the pricier side. My prawn salad was $19. They were big prawns and that's great but $19 salad is on the "fancy lunch" side of things and this place is not very fancy. It has diner vibes with luxury price tags. Service was very friendly and staff paid good attention to little details. I spilled my water on the table (don't know how I did that) but the waitress while passing by came and wiped up my small spill. She also came by and wiped the table of a tiny piece of coconut. Hadn't been to Buck's in years so we headed down on Sunday am. No crowd at 8am and got a nice seat. When placing our order the server asked if we wanted toast and I said sourdough......got the bill and they charged $5 for 2 pieces of toast. Really, $5 for toast 2 pieces of toast when your spending $17 and $18 for eggs and hash?? All the other restaurant's I've been to include toast when you order an egg breakfast.. Even more surprised I had to ask for the little Smuckers jelly packs. Guess I'm lucky they didn't charge me for those. read more

Finally tried Buck's after decades of living in Silicon Valley. Our expectations were a little high, since we have heard good things, but we were seriously disappointed. When we walked in, no one greeted us or even acknowledged us. The man behind the host counter ignored us for several minutes. Finally, after nearly 5 minutes, he told us to follow him to our table. Once seated, it took over 10 minutes for anyone to come take our drink order or offer us water. We should have just left when we had the chance, but at this point we were too hungry to try and find somewhere else to eat. Eventually a waiter came to our table and took our order - Eggs Benedict and a piece of Bucks "Famous" Coffee Cake. The food took about 20 minutes to get to us, and it was extremely lackluster. The eggs benedict had decent flavor, but the yolks were hard and the hollandaise was separated (like they had been on the hot plate for a while). Also, the side of potatoes was laughably small, literally only 3 or 4 bites total. The coffee cake was some of the driest and flavorless coffee cake I had ever had. We practically couldn't eat a bite without having to guzzle some coffee or water to keep us from choking. Our waiter never came by again to fill our waters or coffee, so we never even got the chance to tell him the food was bad. On top of all that, the prices are outrageous. I get that this is Woodside, so I expect some markup, but 9 dollars for a small piece of inedible coffee cake is just sad. I am glad I finally tried this place, because now I know to never go back. read more

We always loved Buck's breakfast and brunch (and all the objects everywhere!), and now we love the outdoor space they put together and the wood-fired oven pizzas. The only reason I give it 3 stars and not 5 is the service, which tends to be quite lacking. In fact, when we recently went with a large group (we had a reservation), they made us feel like nobody wanted to deal with us, they simply avoided coming by our table. Horrible service. I'm a former waitress so was particurally disappointed. Host told us wait was 10 mins, it took them 30 mins to seat us. Its fine if it takes longer, but train your hosts to give guests accurate estimates. When we asked for an update, he sat us and then we waited for 10 mins at our table and no one brought us water or greeted us or anything. We went ahead and just left. You should hire more servers or train your staff to bring your guests water while they wait to be greeted. If someone had brought us water we probably would have waited. Not a good visit . Went for a hike and stopped here after with friends. Ordered the wings since they were really well advertised on their menu with clam Chowder with a Blue moon. Zero Customer Service We came here after a walk to get some food and coffee. My partner and I waited in line to get food and my parents wanted to go sit down. We were second in line and my parents found a table to sit down. There were 4 empty tables, but my parents were told that they couldn't sit until they have ordered. They tried to explain that we are in line getting food but no, they were not allowed to sit even though my mother is standing with a cane. My partner got a little frustrated so he told the cashier when we were ordering. Then we proceed to the table to let them know we ordered. The waitress who told my parents they cannot sit came over with such aggressive tone "What is the problem?", we asked why couldn't they sit 3 mins early since there were many empty tables? She proceed to argue with us about rules are rules. Okay but I thought there are also customer services in the service industry? Buck's used to be a full priced, not overpriced place that had great food. Sadly it is under new management. It was one of the few places that had buckwheat pancakes. I don't know if it is because of covid or not but the waiter, who was pretty darned good, said they took buckwheat pancakes off the menu. They need to change the name to "No Bucks". Very sad. We ordered the 2x2x2 (eggs, bacon and pancakes). Eggs and bacon were okay, pancakes not flavorful at all; more like cardboard, Even with syrup. Croissant French toast was tasty to my 16 y/o but too sweet overall. The Belgian waffle was awful--soft not crisp on the outside and not cooked through. The coffee cake was the WORST we've ever ordered anywhere: Dry, tasteless and downright unappealing. Took one bite and was done. It boggles my mind that the restaurant was full for breakfast. Clam chowder looked dark and old unlike the picture I saw. Taste? Taste like old potato and vege chowder... a lot of old greeny leaf vege in the chowder and I couldn't tell what they were exactly. I've eaten at Bucks numerous times over the years (mostly breakfast items) but today I finally wanted to take the time to express how delicious my food was. I stopped in this afternoon halfway through my 5 mile walk with my husband. We were seated on the patio and it was quite pleasant. I ordered the Heirloom Bacon Lettuce Tomato sandwich that arrived with delicious French fries. I enjoy making BLT's at home but this sandwich was served on ciabatta bread and the tomatoes were the most delicious I've ever tasted at a restaurant. My husband had a healthy Chicken Salad and completely cleaned his plate. We both had a glass of local wine, La Honda Sauvignon Blanc which was the best compliment to our meals. The service from the time we walked in the door was outstanding! We walk past Bucks every day and I have a feeling we'll be stopping in more often. read more

After reading their online menu, we decided to invite two of our closest friends to have lunch with us at Buck's. We had never dined there, so we were really looking forward to it. It was better than we had anticipated. Two of us ordered the soup of the day (asparagus) and one of our guests had the onion soup. The soups were outstanding! We ordered two crab sandwiches with melted cheddar. Our other guest ordered an open-faced hamburger with fries and I ordered the Harry's Bar Filet Mignon Sandwich. At $24, the Harry's Bar Sandwich is a great bargain given that an 8 oz filet mignon runs about $40 and up. My iced tea was divine and one of our guests agreed. The ladies loved the crab sandwiches. Our only complaint about the food was the Caesar salad that comes with those sandwiches--it didn't taste like a Caesar salad (The best Caesar salad continues to be at our favorite restaurant in Carmel). This would be very easy to remedy! Their homemade cole slaw that comes with the sandwiches was sweet and delicious. Our other lady guest loved her burger. My Harry's Bar filet mignon sandwich smothered with onions ($1 extra) was heavenly! Believe it or not, we had room for dessert, so we ordered two Hot Fudge Pies with Peppermint Ice Cream Candy--wow! It was the best peppermint stick ice cream I've had since Edy's in Palo Alto closed many years ago! Our other guest had the Hot Fudge Sundae with gobs of homemade whipped cream. Our waitress had a full station and we arrived at the busiest time of the day but she spent time with us describing the dishes we asked about and she (Karen) was wonderful! Double Smash burger had plenty of meat and cheese and a soft bun. However it was a bit rich and needed a little acid for balance. A few slices of dill pickle could fix that. The two stars is for the interesting decor. I went there for breakfast and ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was soggy like it was frozen before it was cooked and the portion size made me think "where's the beef?" The wait staff was rude and non existent. I can only think that this place gets a lot of attention in the area because there isn't anything else and for the strange and unusual decor. For the things that matter this restaurant at least during when I went was very lacking and would not recommend it for a delicious meal or good service. Came to Buck's after the boy read a story about it in a book somewhere. I came on Yelp and should have trusted the reviews to not come here, but I don't like to tell him "no" especially over something as silly as where we should eat. Arrived into the parking lot where there are plenty of bikers and motorcycles. Parking is plentiful but not much in the shade. We came inside and stood there blindly as we waited to be helped. What looked like to be the owner having a full on conversation, we felt ignored. We contemplated leaving, when we made eye contact with a woman who would later become our waitress. We looked over the menu and saw that prices were quite high. We thought okay, portions must be big. We decided to share a burger, order it medium. Boy, were we so disappointed. The burger came out burnt. Needless to say, we didn't want to send it back as we've already spent about 30 minutes of our time here. Thank goodness for having ketchup to drown the burger in and to trick our psyche into thinking the burger is moist. There was a measly amount of fries, and our burger was lucky to be maybe 1/4 inch thin, think McDonald"s thin. It certainly didn't look fresh, had that perfect circle shape and tasted frost bitten. Service was decent, was never approached to see how our food was. By the time she did came, she saw our plates were empty and asked if we wanted more. We figured we'd spare ourselves stomachaches and remove ourselves as quick as possible for Buck's to explore elsewhere in the area. Bottom line is even if we were starving, we wouldn't return to Buck's. It was an epic fail! read more
