Delicious lunch with attentive service for a party of eight (two small, and six adult.). We thoroughly enjoyed our hamburger, chicken wings, shrimp & crab salad, "perfect salad" (kale) and kiddie burgers. The drinks were good: coffee, tea, and orange-guava juice. Desserts were a big hit, too: we shared a peach cobbler and a boysenberry cobbler, both a la mode. Our waitress was very nice, and very effective. The service left much to be desired. The place was nearly empty, servers passed our table regularly, yet getting water glasses refilled was a major ordeal. The food was good but overpriced. It's hard to describe, but between the friendly service and the let's just say entertaining decor, you'll have fun. The food is great but very expensive. This is the perfect place to go after a long hike. I have been going here for the last couple of years and have a tried alot of their dishes. Buck's is one of those hidden gems... filling for both the eye and the palate. Eclectic decorations and great Americana comfort food. I wish the beef wellington special was on the menu all the time, even if the price was a tad bit high. It was delightful and melted in my mouth.(One of the few times I will break from my gluten free diet restrictions) Also Nadine is the best server/manager ever! It's nice to see when management also helps out with tables instead of sitting behind a counter like at some restaurants I''ve seen. She's honest and works hard at what she does! Pretty crowded during the weekend, and lunch, but the prices are reasonable. What is the best is what's on the wall. It's like a freaking museum! I could be there for hours just looking at the walls. It was my first time having Buck's. Apparently, it's a biggie in the valley. People waiting to be seated were overflowing out the door. I went to pick up a huge lunch order for my company, and their service was great. I had a spinach and eggplant salad, and it was flavorful. The employees were really nice and friendly. The only downside is that the parking lot tends to get really packed during peak hours. I would definitely go back and try some more of their other food. read more

I went here this past weekend for Brunch. The parking terrible, but that's to be expected. Lucky for us, we found a spot right in front. We called about 45 minutes ahead of time to reserve a table, and once we arrived were told that our table would be ready in a few moments. We decided to head over to the bar to get some drinks. When we got to the bar area, the bartender/waitress asked if we were eating in the bar, and when we told her we had a table, she walked away... Our table was ready in 5 minutes, and we proceeded to the table, WITHOUT any drinks. After we were seated, the same bartender/waitress came to take our orders. It may be that she was very busy, or we were seated in a bad spot (table right by the front door), but every time she came by, she was half yelling at us over her shoulder as she walked away. The food was great!!! We ordered the Pescadero artichoke stuffed with crab and shrimp, a plain cheeseburger, and some pancakes (very eclectic tastes...). We had no complaints about the food. WE WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! Food: My husband and I went to eat at Buck's today. This place is way over priced for the cheap quality of food they are serve there. Half of our food came burnet and it was old and dry. They charge $3 for real maple syrup, when it should be free. When I left the place I was bloated because the food was so disgusting and low quality. Service: was way horrible than the food. Most of the people who work there have attitude, especially the tall white blonde lady with glasses. She sat us down with an attitude never brought water and milk that was requested for coffee. She kept yapping with her old costumers and while we sat there for half hour without water and milk. She seemed to have no manners at all. She never said Hi she never made eye contact and if we asked for something we would act like she didn't hear us. She brought me tea and no plate to put my tea bag after I was done steeping. She served us our food and never came to check if our food was good or everything was okay. We wanted to send our potatoes back, but no one ever came to ask if we needed anything else. So we had to eat burnet bad food and left there feeling sick to our stomachs. For this entire experience we paid $47,23. The worst breakfast and service we ever had. read more

New to the area and have now tried Buck's twice. Was really hoping the second time around would wow me.....but I remain wow-free. I can generally appreciate all the old decor and the history the locals must feel connected to here. But the fact is, the food is really awful, the service is only so-so and it's very, very grimey. It could use some serious updates and I hold to my common theme of 'stick to a few items on the menu and really do them right'! The other local favorite in Woodside is Alice's. I absolutely love Alice's! Food is always just right with many classic items, but some unique and very well prepared items as well. Always good. I ate with my friends on a Saturday night. One of the bartenders was a friend, so we decided to visit and eat. The servers were nice. I got a spicy garden burger. I liked it. There was not a lot of people and the bar was quite. The inside of the restaurant was cute. The hot fudge sundae was delicious. The lemon drop was too bitter for me. It's basically a diner. Slightly expensive for what it is. But here's why I would never go back: Abysmal service. I came on CRUTCHES and waited while FIVE staff people passed me by, including the hostess, and no one acknowledged me. There was no one else in front of us and we waited at least 5 or 10 minutes for a table. My friend dropped me off, parked the car, and when he came in, STILL we waited. It didn't improve. Staff was pleasant enough but the waitress was but impossible to find. Food was dropped, she didn't come back to check. Water was empty most of the meal. Had to ask twice for refills. It was like everyone was avoiding us. We waited forever for our dirty plates to be bussed. I couldn't wait to get our of there. And it was NOT busy. And seriously, $4 for a cup of coffee? read more

I like the food here, and the decor is fun and entertaining. It is a great place to stop for food after a hike in the surrounding hills. The service is always excellent. The walls are covered with interesting displays (Warren Buffet's wallet, the original packaging for Windows version 1.0, etc.). And the food is always quite tasty. Entertaining if you think of this place as a museum. It is hard to justify the premium price they charge for less than mediocre foods they serve here. You can get much higher quality food for less than 1/2 the price they charge here just by driving down into Palo Alto. Don't come here unless you're a regular or local. They play favorites. I came here several months ago with my boss(regular) and ordered the artichoke crab plate($23) and it was so big I couldn't finish it. Came here again with my gf and we ordered the same we had to share it because it was too pricey for us. When the food came out it was like a joke. We were so hungry and I don't like to complain so I didn't. They gave us 2 small artichokes that were under ripe, with the hearts(best part) missing, 5 green beans, 2 broccoli florets(bite size), and one cherry tomato. More respectful and fair business practices are needed. When. approached staff to sit down outside for lunch, I was told they were full and it would be ten minutes. I waited outside the whole time at the check in stand. Within a few minutes a table just a few few feet away from me became available. Seconds later, three men walked up and sat down at this dirty, uncleared table without any staff saying a word to them. With the original hostess no where in sight inside or outside, I turned to staff outside and explained the situation. I was not prepared for the response, "We're full and you're just going to have to wait." Nothing else, so I left. I'm glad I'm not the three gentleman who knew they took a table while I was waiting and had been. I'm thankful too after owning and working in restaurants myself for many years, that my only and sole response to this situation would not have been what Buck's staff chose to do/say! read more

Awful! Just had dinner there after not dining there in years. Needless to say I was excited as I remembered Bucks being a fun, odd, and all around neat dining experience. Walked in and wasn't greeted right away. Asked for an outdoor table for 4. Won't do that again because it was more like a table for 100 if you count all the flies but hey, that's what you have to deal with when dining outdoors so can only be mad at myself. Anyway the food, my wife ordered the chicken tenders which looked like 10 inch long burnt breadsticks. They had absolutely ZERO flavor and the ranch dipping sauce tasted like milk with a little salt and pepper. We had also ordered a fried calamari appetizer and the calamari itself was undercooked and slimy and the breading wasn't sticking and fell apart as soon as it was touched. I ordered the Chinese Chicken salad and it was just ok. They put a TON of fried won-ton strips on top and give a decent amount of chicken but it seems dry and overcooked but salad also lacked cabbage big time. I will say that the dressing was very good. For many years, my husband and I looked forward to stopping at Buck's whenever our business took us in their direction. Not anymore. We were there last week and won't be back. Husband ordered the signature Buck Burger. It was a burger peeking out of two squashed, yellowish halves of bun. It had one scrawny leaf of lettuce on it along with so much sauce that it squirted out of the bun whenever he tried to take a bite. Nothing else on the burger and no other embellishments on the plate except for some fries. Not even a pickle. We've had better burgers from our local drive-thru joint. I had an entree salad that was closer in size to a dinner salad. It was dressed, but only barely enough to give it some faint flavor. The service was also not very good. My husband's iced tea was only refilled once. The sparkling water I ordered came sealed in a glass bottle that did not have a twist off top and the waitress did not stick around to open it for me. A glass with ice was not offered, guess she just assumed I preferred to drink out of the bottle. We had to flag someone down so we could pay our bill, which added insult to injury because it came to over $50.00. What a disappointing ripoff. read more
