I'm sure there are tons of other spots where I could have tried Detroit Style pizza, but I was actually recommended by a family friend to try Buddy's. Stopped here on a road trip and was pleasantly surprised. Let's start off with the so-so. I had a custom Detroit Style Pizza with sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and garlic with Wisconsin brick cheese. Don't remember tasting caramelized onions now when I think about it, but no biggie. The toppings just seemed ok to me, nothing was extraordinary, toppings seemed like what some other chain pizza sports I've had. My wife had a the hoagie but substituted steak with chicken. Another one that just seemed ok. The bread was great but the chicken needed some more seasoning and the sandwich needed a sauce. Basically is a philly cheesesteak. We had horseradish on the side, but I don't think that really fits with a philly. Since it was happy hour we also got the veggie sampler. I didn't like the zucchini at all but the cauliflower and broccoli wasn't bad. Food was just ok. Now the good. The inside was sparkling clean and it didn't look like other pizza chains. My wife was also surprised and thought it looked cute. I could tell they were a little understaff as well but that didn't affect the type of the service they gave with how busy it was. Phenomenal service. Not great, not bad. It's a decent pizza chain, and I finally tried Detroit Style Pizza in Michigan now!

Appetizers- We got the mozz sticks. Good not great. 6/10. Asked for ranch and marinara. Only got the ranch. NBD Also order the bacon and cheese potato wedges. These were amazing. 10/10. If I come back I'm getting 2-3 of these for the family. Ordered a 4-square Detroit Public TV Pepperoni. Smelled great. Tasted decent. Bottom was so tough you can't cut it. Biting it hurt my teeth and the roof of my mouth. 6/10 Service- On the slow side. It was not very busy. Took very long to get items. Waitress was very pleasant. She seemed to be the only one without help. Price- Cost was about average for quality and atmosphere.

    Onions Means ALL the onions

Sorry but this is the 4th time I've tried Buddy's and it's not just the new staff and unseasoned pans. We got a 6 mile pizza that does have onions... but not this many. I mean like it tasted like we got 10 times the onions as a normal topping. Here is just one bite where I pulled out the onions for the next bite. This one was unique enough as that onion was barely cooked and about an 1" or more in diameter. I love onions but come on. Who wants to eat that and kiss their wife after? Gross. We tossed it.

Oh I wish you could give more than 5 stars! My family comes here QUITE often. Especially for the loaded fries ! like I've said before in previous reviews, I'm somewhat of a French fry connoisseur! The loaded fries have everything you would want and more, gooey cheese, crispy bacon, seasoned to perfection, dip them in the house made ranch and you have a WIN! The tenders, oh chicken tendys! So crispy and juicy. Like I've said before, dip them in the house made ranch, ugh you can't stop eating them! My husband absolutely loves the burgers! Crispy onions atop a delicious hot patty ! Absolute perfection!! I definitely recommend trying a buddy's pizza!

Always happy to be here, they have great drinks and pizzas. It's always clean, they were busy but not overwhelmingly busy that you couldn't find a table. We like sitting at the bar just so we can leave the tables for bigger groups, there were only 2 of us, why take a table for 4?

What a wonderful pizza! We first discovered Buddy's in Ann Arbor one Valentine's Day! It was fantastic! I even called the manager over and said, "You should open one in Kalamazoo or Battle Creek!" Now, they're here! We haven't had an opportunity to try anything else yet there because we love the pizza so much! It's worth a 20-minute drive (one way) for us!

We ordered to go and this was our first time at Buddy's. They do have good options for vegetarians. We got a Greektown pizza, spaghetti in marinara sauce and house salad. House salad was fine , maybe we should've tried a different one - the chickpeas did got blend with the salad , they were boiled and bland; maybe roasted might have added some flavor - but that's just how we prefer it. Greektown pizza was good, the veggies were less and way more bread for us - again our first time trying Detroit Style pizza. However, it did taste good and loved the crunch on the edges. Spaghetti with marinara was a hit! That was supposed to be a side dish but it turned out to be a star. It's simple and the sauce was really good. Overall a good experience - we will definitely try other options.

We have done both take-out and dine-in now. Yesterday we dined in for the first time and had a nice time! I liked that the audio from the televisions were kinda piped in through a speaker so you could actually hear what was going on. I don't see that often! We got the Greektown Pizza and it was so delicious. It had feta and red onion and tomato and spinach and a garlic parmesan sauce. It was served with Greek dressing. Be prepared to spend because prices run about $16 on average for a 4-slice pizza. The meatballs were also around $16 and came with four meatballs and four triangles of ciabatta. So if you have something to celebrate or wanna impress a client, this would be a great place to go! The service was prompt and the ambiance was inviting.

REALLY good gluten free pizza, don't get extra cheese unless you are an extreme cheese lover, it was a lot Lol! Cesar salad was also gluten free and super good. The Individual salad was more than enough for 2 people.

If you're looking for a swanky place to go in Kalamazoo, SkyDeck is your place. I always feel like…read morethe drinks are a good $2 more than the other bars in the Entertainment District, and there's only the 1 bar so you may have to wait if it's busy. Oh, but it's never been busy when I've gone. Background music was playing, and yes you can get a view of the city, but there's a lot of cranes and building going on now, and you're only really 7 stories up. I wish they'd move the smoking section (or get rid of it altogether) since you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get to the bathrooms...

The fact that you can't see it's layout from the ground floor lends to the allure. All this is to say that I created a legend in my head that sadly wasn't true. Skydeck was interesting, fun for a night, and not much more. Perhaps it's for this reason that I gave it an average rating. But I also think that there were a few flaws regarding the space and I'll lay them out here. First and foremost, you pay a premium to be in this space, both in the form of a cover ($10, nothing insane) and an apparent tariff on the drinks (maybe it's handling fees for hauling it all up so high?). Either way, you should expect to be a bit gouged for cash. Not all of the drinks are insane, but mixed drinks are pricey, and some of their "signature" drinks top $12. Now, initially, this might seem like a fair trade: a bit extra for high quality drinks and a higher quality view. But here's the rub: it's a small space, it's packed, and the edge seats go first. For me and my group to enjoy the breathtaking view of Kalamazoo, we would have to stand or share tables. It's difficult to blame them for being popular. That being said, I don't really feel like we received the main feature of the venue. A friend of mine put it sagely: it's a great date spot, or celebration, but you don't go their to drink. You go there for the experience. Therefore, this won't become one of my "regular spots." Here are some positives to end on: -Amazing view of the city -Great ambiance, especially at night -Wonderful service -Elevator!

We arrived exactly at 4 PM after seeing this weekly promotion on social media. Upon arrival, the venue was empty, yet we were completely denied access to bowling due to a private event, and told that no bowling customers would be allowed until 6 PM. Before anything else, I want to clarify an important point: "Free" does not mean customers should be treated poorly. Free events are often meant to introduce people to a business, attract new customers, and create a welcoming first impression. Offering something for free does not justify rude behavior, dismissive communication, or shifting responsibility onto customers. Respect and basic courtesy should apply regardless of whether an event is paid or free. What bothered me most was not being turned away, but the blame-shifting that followed. When a business publicly advertises "Free Bowling Wednesdays" and encourages people to show up at 4 PM, it is reasonable for customers to rely on that information. Adding the word "limited" on social media posts does not communicate that no bowling customers are allowed at all until 6 PM due to a private event. Those are two very different messages. Instead of acknowledging the lack of clear communication, the responsibility was shifted onto us as customers with statements like "you should have called." This is unfair. Customers should not be expected to double-check an advertised public event by phone when no such instruction was mentioned. What made the experience more disappointing was the lack of empathy no apology, no ownership of the confusion, and no attempt to acknowledge how frustrating it is to arrive on time to an empty venue and still be denied entry. This review is not about complaining. It's about accountability. Clear communication and basic courtesy go a long way, and this situation could have been handled very differently with a simple acknowledgment and apology.

Had they informed me that a shorter bowl would result in me getting in sooner, I would've selected a shorter timespan. Either way, I decided to give them a chance, selected a seltzer (the cheapest at around .35 cents/ounce) and my drink came out to $10! It left me confused. Then proceed to go drink and watch the bowlers and there were 3 open lanes out of 4. For 20+ minutes, not a single group came in to bowl. As I was watching, it became increasingly clear that the host at the entrance wasn't trained to ensure everyone gets a chance, or for clear communication. Only positive? My drink was good, the few customers in there seemed to enjoy themselves. Just don't come to bowl, you wont get in. Look at the previous reviews, I am not the first to complain about this. Also, it looks like whomever is supposed to be checking these reviews doesn't care as there seem to be no responses to rectify these issues.

Here's what I felt missed the bar... First, a speakeasy's initial location of "secrecy"... I don't think the top floor of Monaco Bay is that difficult to find. In fact, there is a giant "Gatsby" sign lit up outside. Even if it is modern, perhaps an unmarked door at the entrance could enhance the overall feel. Second, the expectation of innovative cocktails that take you back to an era. The specials were the same as Monaco and the bartender didn't know what the night's special actually was... There's a lot of potential here to boast old custom cocktails from scratch- with a modern twist. Third, the atmosphere. The exposed brick, dark woods, and lavish style add to the tone. Would be really great if there were candles on tables instead of incredibly bright lights drilled into the floor. I did enjoy the unique lights hanging above the bar though. The decor played into vintage modern, but it's lacking some authenticity. Also, the DJ seemed to just play popular culture. Would have loved to hear some swing or jazz remixes instead.

I was so excited about this option when I saw it on Instagram but there is so little mention of it in the menu (basically an, "ask us about our mini cocktail flight" at the bottom of a page) and no leaflet showing the flight details or price. I'm very much a person that likes to try a little bit for everything so once I remembered it after we left, I had a moment. I got a Gin Fizz and the bf got a Blueberry Vanilla Mule. The gin Fizz tasted very much like lemonade, even with the addition of cran flavoring. The Blueverry Vanilla Mule was very strongly clove. If you like clove, you'd likely like that one. We decided against getting second cocktails since happy hour had ended, but got a flight to try their stuff. We like the liqueurs but they are hard to sip straight due to all the flavor they pack. Our favorite was the Pink Peppercorn Gin out of everything we tried. I'd highly recommend it especially if you don't know much about the company. The interior has a 20s speakeasy feel, which I really liked. It's a little fancy but comfortable and welcoming. The drink menu was pretty large and it was tough for me to choose which drink I wanted after the flight. I ended up with the blueberry margarita because it was on happy hour. It was really great! Not too sweet. Nate got the cherry black Manhattan which we both enjoyed too. I loved the flight because we got to try pretty much all of the spirit offerings, including their amaro, Oaxacan green corn bourbon, and pink peppercorn gin, which were all unique and very tasty. Our bartender was knowledgable and very kind - great service. I'll definitely be back!
