I'm not sure what the fuss is about. My pizza was OK, but no more than that. I did like the pepperoni, it had nice flavor that was noticeably above average. However, the rest of the pizza seemed a little under-done. There were a few crispy bits at the corners, which was nice, but most of the crust was rather limp. Just a simple Chicken Caeser Salad Well, here's what surprised me enough to Yelp em. The two girls behind the take out counter had GREAT personalities, and were easy to get along with. It was apparent they loved working there and understood customer service AND.... The Caesar Salad Dressing was obviously a dressing of their own craft. The service was top notch. The staff from the greeter, to the waitress to the manager they went over and above. Here is the reason for the 3 star review: The food. My wife grew up at 6 mile and Shields where she had dined at the original Buddy's many times. In addition we have lived less than a mile from the Warren location. 1 - Marrisa, our waitress, was prompt and great. 2 - Four of the four square pizzas were good but not great. 3 - Bill, the manager, was not accommodating, rude and not customer oriented, even for our disabled family member with autism. Concerning for the Buddy's - Warren location since another review 4 months prior to our experience tonight where a disabled adult was denied service and Buddy's appears to have violated ADA laws. 4 - Cost: $88 including tip for four adults for 4 pies and 4 sodas. After some quick research, we read great things about the food at Buddy's - Warren on Yelp and online. We were excited to experience the unique Detroit style pizza for the first time as a family. Unfortunately, our dining experience was a stressful one at Buddy's in Warren. We were with a 60+ person group from out of town that made reservation weeks in advance. Seating outside of the back room in the main dining area was promised if we filled the back room. When we arrived, my wife, myself and our son with autism (18) asked for a empty small table ( FYI -- there were other empty tables near this one) in the main dining area near the back room as the back room quickly filled up with our large group per our reservation. My wife spoke with someone and we were told we could sit at the small table so my son proceeded to sit down calmly. As we started to sit, Bill, manager, came up said we could not sit there and "he was the one who made decisions where people could sit". Standing right in the middle of the restaurant (!!), my wife tried to explain to Bill, manager, we needed a table since our son with autism didn't do well in tight spaces like the back room and our group was promised additional seating, if needed. Bill was not receptive nor accommodating to our concerns at all. Bill said the empty table we were beginning to sit at "was for other customers and stated the 3 of us would have to be added to the waiting list" even though our group had a reservation made well in advance and the group was promised additional seating in main dining area, if needed. Bill proceeded to walk away. We then sat at the table for a few minutes stressed (and embarrassed a bit to be called out like this in the middle of everyone) while we discussed what we would do next. My wife went back to the front and Bill then said he had changed his mind and we could now sit there. All that crap we had to go through and now we can sit and eat?! We wondered if Bill would come back to our table and say something like ' Sorry about earlier and the seating issue. We are very busy and appreciate you all patronizing our restaurant. ' It didn't happen. Bill walked by our table multiple times and not a word, not a kind gesture, nor any attempt to relieve the situation. Not a word. First - Buddy's - Warren (Bill) needs to improve their customer service skills. Second - How about some general understanding and/or accommodations for disabled persons in society that may need a little additional support or flexibility?! We didn't want much. We only wanted a table to enjoy a meal as a family. If you don't get some ADA training for manager staff and get this figured out soon at Buddy's - Warren, you may have an ADA lawsuit on your hands one day. Not implying we were discriminated against here but overall, there is a level of indifference at this restaurant towards those with disabilities -- especially per the prior review 4 months ago stating you denied service to a disabled person with the service dog that you asked for service animal paperwork ( illegal per ADA ) and then asked them to leave. We will not patronize another Buddy's ever again and I hear Jet's pizza in the area is a very good option. We'll probably give them a shot later this week! I'm sure Jet's would be a much more pleasant dining experience. read more

You know how a taphouse has 100s of beers on tap? This is basically the taphouse of Detroit style pizzas. There are plenty of signature pizzas and even a customize your own pizza option. There is a 4 slice option (think personal size) and an 8 slice. And for the indecisive eaters (like myself), you can split your pizza between two choices! Whaat?! Pretty nifty. I chose the antioxidant and the margherita. The margherita was tasty as I am a huge fan of basil. The antioxidant was slightly impressive. I expected more artichoke on it, but got thin single layers. Overall not bad. The breadsticks are great, but that dipping sauce was something else. You can definitely taste the herbs in that sauce! read more

Service was great but the pizza sure has gone down hill. We ordered the Motown Museum 8pc and the toppings were terrible. Updated review August 2017 when I was back in town. This gluten-free pizza surpassed the last one. Hands-down the best GF pizza I've ever had. I'll definitely return next time I'm in town. Kudos to fabulous gluten-free pizza! I went knowing it wouldn't even compare to their excellent non-GF pizza. I was proven wrong! House-made dough that certainly stands up to their non-GF pizza. Buddy's, what can I say, it's a Detroit institution! I've been to various locations around the Metro Detroit area. The first one I went to was their original location on McNichols and Conant in Detroit. Along with having some of the best Detroit style pizza, they do have other items on their menu. Very few people look past the pizza, but their pastas and salads are excellent. The thing I like about the Warren location is that most of their waitstaff has been there for many years. That means that if you have been going there for a while you get to know the waiters and waitresses that give you excellent service. If you are visiting from out of state, make sure you visit a Buddy's location to sample our great pizza. read more

I wouldn't know what the food is like because we never got to eat. This place refused to serve us because I have a service dog. I was told to produce "papers" proving my need for said dog. Stopped here for a work lunch. Another great Buddy's location. We quickly were seated and ordered. We had a deadline of one hour for lunch, but we had a little extra insurance - the instructor! The greek salad came first and took the hunger pangs off. The pizza took awhile, understandable as it was the height of the lunch rush. We getting a little worried, but it arrived soon after. A nice combination pizza with the Motor City cheese blend - the crust as nicely carmelized as always. When the pizza was served we asked for the check. This place is always hopping. The other day I had dinner with a friend. My husband and I sometimes have lunch dates at this location. This time I had the breadsticks for the first time. I've been missing out. They were delicious, soft, and perfect. I ordered a Cobb salad. It was good. I didn't realize it had blue cheese on it. I like the Motown Museum pizza but occasionally we like to get the chicken fingers w a side of spaghetti instead of pizza and it makes for a nice l meal for two. The chicken fingers are amazing w/the really tasty buttermilk ranch. The spaghetti is great too but occasionally, they don't put enough sauce on it. I typically order from Door Dash but I'm certain had I dined in, they'd have put extra sauce had I requested it. I love dining in at this Buddy's! It's a decent size for the whole family, they have TVs around for sports and of course a bar! This was my first time eating in while on my new gluten free lifestyle and our waitress made sure they were extra careful for me since I had celiac! They bring your pizza out in tin foil on its own pizza tray. With a clean pizza cutter and spatula to prevent any CC. Our waitress was on top of our drinks and was super nice! Not sure what's going on here, but I've officially lost my taste for Buddy's pizza. It's a little disheartening since I grew up loving it, but now that I know I've had better (and the quality from this location has gone down) it's not such a big deal. In the past, I had issues with the pizza not being piping hot when in the box (or delivered to the table). It should be STEAMING. In the past, I had an issue with the pizza being soggy in the middle, based upon how the juices settle and perhaps the dough was stretched thinner in the middle? Now, what I've found is that twice I've tasted the pizza and the dough just tastes like cardboard. Very little flavor to the dough itself (other than the oil it is baked in) and the shocking part is, it was tough. Someone is over-working the dough or doing something I don't know, but it is tough at the bottom. Not crunchy like Jet's pizza. Tough. Like overworked dough. So fix your guys issues. But I can't guarantee I'll give you guys another chance, since I've given three of those already. read more

Went on a Friday night, at 6pm, parking lot was full and expected (and willing) to wait...walked right in and got a table for 6 people! Their pizza is great. It really is a Detroit original! Tried the multi grain crust and enjoyed it! We had a bit of an issue with our salad......a huge long hair issue....but management took it off our bill, and table, immediately. (there was a hair right on top of the salad, before any of us ate it...and to prevent it happening with all of our food again, they remade the whole order, which was very nice of them.) Iconic Buddy's pizza! Delicious foods of all kinds. Pizza is unbeatable. HOWEVER - when I placed an order, one of my pizzas was wrong. When I called, I had asked to get a correct pizza. It did take another 35 minutes and I did have to take the incorrect pizza back. They did offer a $10 credit for our next visit. FINISHING ON A GOOD NOTE!! Later that evening, the manager called and, again, expressed her apologies and stated that she would offer us a full pizza credit (instead of the $10) This gesture made my night and redeemed my thoughts about this location. Now, I stop in and pick up pizza(s) for people who want to try Detroit Pizza... (DC/MD/VA area) I have brought Jets because of convenience and NEVER disappointed!! In this case it's been about a year since I've been to the Warren location, I ordered up 4 - 8 corner pizzas , different topping requests and an antipasto salad. When arriving I opened up mine and knew right away ugh. So I went ahead and air fried a pc of mine (excellent process to bring back to fresh in restaurant) and yes Ugh!! It was like a ordered a thin crust. It was Terrible!! So disappointing. I opened the other 3 and same thing. Needless to say I won't be giving those pizzas to the people who requested these pizzas. Conclusion, I will be bringing them Jetts... never been disappointed. Sorry Buddy's think you lost a customer. Ordered for pick up at 11:27 and you were in time but quality was Terrible. As far as I'm concerned Buddys pizza is the best pizza in the world. I'm from Detroit and I've had Buddys Pizza since I was a kid back at the Conant location. The quality has been consistent over the years and it is always just such a treat to enjoy a slice of pizza. Buddy's has been doing Detroit Style pizza since the 40's. I ordered a four piece margarita pizza and a chicken tenders appetizer. Pizza - square style only at Buddy's. Which I love when I'm in Brooklyn or in any of the five boroughs. In Detroit, not so much. It wasn't awful, just didn't do it for me. The crust was the highlight. It was crunchy and Parmesan crusted. The dough, sauce and cheese were just ok. Chicken Fingers- ok, these were awesome. Lightly breaded and they looked made to order and fresh. No frozen chicken here. They were the highlight of the meal and I would eat here again just for the chicken fingers. The staff was friendly.
