I rented a car on May 30th to do some nature photography in Oregon's Mt. Jefferson area. I paid for the vehicle in advance and shared my reservation number upon arrival at the front desk. They asked for the credit card, and I thought it was for the vehicle safety deposit. On the following Monday, I realized they had charged my debit card $56.10 and my credit card $59.13. I called their customer service (800 number) and spoke to a very unhelpful person. Our box truck was double booked so local guy (Salem, OR) kept pushing a smaller cargo van or wait a few days for that truck to be returned (meaning more time off work at same rates) and stated there were NO other options! Called Corporate to schedule another from a farther location... corporate guy couldn't understand why local wouldn't upgrade us, he called him and made the local guy give us a bigger truck but, he gave us a death trap. Steering pulling hard to the right, shocks worn to the point of altering direction on bumps and transmission wouldn't shift out of lower gears after any hill (about 600 miles into trip) with engine light coming on intermittently. Ac worked for 30 second intervals (Maximum) every 5 to 10 minutes or so and was lied to again by local, lady agent about there being Bluetooth (Hands Free) on the CD player for phone calls before taking the truck. I Called the local office in Salem 9 times over 3 days from 2 different phones (since they weren't answering the first phone) during the trip to complain with ZERO answers or returned calls! Finally Complained to corporate with the list and all 3 return phone calls promised from a supervisor, NEVER happened! I was told that Because I never reported the issues during the trip, there would be no compensation... It's kind of hard to inform someone when NO ONE ANSWERS THEIR OFFICE PHONE OR CALLS YOU BACK! I move a lot due to my job (Michigan to Florida, Florida to Texas, Texas to Oregon and last was Oregon to Michigan) as well as a lot of "In-state" moving. All rentals have always had minor issues (such is life) but, NEVER this many that were this scary, blatantly lied to, coerced or treated with complete apathy from their lack of integrity! I will NEVER rent from Budget or Avis again! Our move was back in August of 2024, I haven't had the time until now to leave reviews other than the initial one on google but felt it necessary to do so!!! read more

Early in the morning, just before picking up the van, I got an email from this place saying they didn't have a van. They didn't apologize or offer a substitution. They do not honor their contracts, and are never open during their scheduled hours. I booked a rental online for a pick up at 12pm for two days and the return time would be 12pm. I didn't have a car "obviously" so my 11yr old daughter and I walked 5 miles across Salem to find out they closed at 12pm and would not open until 7pm. Customer service hotline was very helpful and did compensate me for my troubles with a discount on the rental as well as reschedule my pick up time for 7pm and drop off time of 7pm two days later. When I did pick up the car the girl at the counter was rude and told me even though they were closed that she was there until almost 1pm and that's just how they do it and I should have paid attention to their scheduled hours Upon returning my car at 6pm on the second day they were again closed. I dropped the keys in the box and carried on with my life. I wake to an email saying that I was being charged for the extra 15hrs because I didn't return the car before they closed at 5pm. I was charged for the gap of time which was 5pm-8am, which was the entire time they were closed. The guy I spoke with at that rental location and was also unprofessional and told that in no way did my contract say to return by 7am because they would are closed at that time. Remember I did pick the vehicle up at 7pm I again had to call customer service which was again helpful and took the steps to remove and reimburse me the over charge. 5 stars for customer service hotline operators, negative 5 stars for the location of the rental. read more

I sent up a reservation for a moving truck with this office (via the web) 2 weeks in advance of the day I needed it. Plenty of time. I show up on that day and was told "no truck available. It hasn't come back yet. All the rest of them are broke/in need of repair". So he is operating with one truck. Told me it should be back tomorrow. That tomorrow came and went with no truck. The next morning I cancelled my reservation and went with a competitor-Penske. Cost me twice as much and put me two days behind schedule. All thanks to this guy's shady business practices. We found a bottle of meth in our rental car. The car wasn't super clean which wasn't an issue for us, but when we were returning the car we decided to vacuum and make sure nothing fell between the seats when we found a pill bottle full of drugs. We just spent the weekend with our two small kids in the car. We turned it over to the police who said it was meth, they destroyed it and filed a report. When we called the rental place the guy said "I'll talk to our detailer" and that was it. Really crazy to us. What if we had gotten pulled over? Or our kids had gotten into it? Should have gone to enterprise or orbit, budget wasn't even any cheaper. read more

Now I have received a bill in the mail $52.00 FOR REFUELING. What the heck? I'll warn all my friends and family about the rip off artists running this place. No. 2 the car wasn't even clean. I have read a few of the other reviews for this company and my experience is absolutely the same. I "reserved" a truck to perform an important, time sensitive move and received an email confirmation. I even called that night to confirm (I've had bad experiences before with another company) and was told my reservation was confirmed and not to worry. Today at work I noticed I missed a call and when I redialed it was from Budget. I couldn't take the time to hold for a human so luckily I had a friend who spent the next hour and a half contacting Budget and getting transferred from person to person to find out that Budget had booked 27 orders for trucks and in reality had less then half the trucks onsite to service the orders! We were able to book another vehicle at a reputable company that although was not the dream deal we thought we booked with Budget, we are confident is for real. Don't work with this company and reward their poor service. It's not worth the hassle and high blood pressure to try to save a few dollars. read more

If I could give negative amounts of stars, I would. We booked a reservation to pick up at 4pm today, my wife got a ride to their facility, arrived on time, and the entire place was closed, and she was stranded there. I called their national "customer service" line and tried to be kind and clear about what happened (I don't yell at customer service people in their position b/c I know it's not their fault), and the woman just said that they close at four and I should have known that. I explained that I booked online through their company website, and even called the previous day to confirm the reservation. At no point did anyone warn me the business would be closed. I spoke to a supervisor who just kept repeating "let me be honest with you, there's nothing I can do." He also informed me that sometimes, if someone books close to closing time, the employees just assume we won't show up so don't stick around until 4. I get that sometimes people flake on reservations, but that's no excuse to leave work early when you have an appointment on the books. We held up our end of the agreement. My poor wife was stranded at the airport while I was at work over an hour away. At a certain point, he indicated he wanted to help make it right, so I asked if we can move our reservation to the following morning as soon as they opened (assuming the employees actually show up on time and do any work). I also asked if there was any kind of courtesy discount we could get for our inconvenience - I am not trying to scam them or take advantage, but if I were in their position I'd offer something to ease the frustration. I would have accepted a "no, sorry," but instead he hung up on me, and I hadn't gotten a confirmation of our revised appointment. My wife attempted to call them twice before I called and was also hung up on both times, and neither of us were rude. There is no customer service at this business. I wasn't expecting much other than getting what I reserved, and apparently they can't handle that. DO NOT AND I MEAN, DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! This company has absolutely no ethics and they are willing to not disclose anything just to get money. We had a rental through Costco 3 months ahead. My boyfriend was the one that had made the reservation, but when he got there, he was told he needed a credit card, which he doesn't have. I went over and said well he can use mine. No questions asked, he took it, took my drivers license, charged and out we go. We had it for 5 days, and when we came back we dropped it clean and with a full tank of gas. I check my credit card statement 3 days later and what was $248, turned into $409!!!!! I immediately called the representative for an explanation. The guy was completely incompetent, first he said we were charged the full week rate, yet, I had only used it for 5 not 7 days. Then he put me on a "brief" hold and came back to tell me that we should have never even left the parking lot. WHAT! They switch the reservation to my name, and they never thought to add my boyfriend as the driver. He also said that there was an extra charge due to me being 24 yrs old. They switched everything to MY NAME! with out me being aware or it being disclosed to me! The guy was no help, he just said "READ THE FINE PRINT, and Budget already requested for their money, nothing we can do!" If I would have known they were going to charge it to my name, and add $125 for being "underage" or that my boyfriend was not even the main driver, I would have taken myself somewhere else. If he would have been stopped, he would have gone to JAIL! These people have absolutely NO morality, and they don't give one shit about it. Also, which is another detail is the car was dirty, they bullshit cleaned it before giving it to my boyfriend, just pathetic excuse of a company. I can't belive Costco backs them up, and I will gladly tell everyone I know to not use this company. Then, my husband received a phone call yesterday and they don't have the car trailer. We were told they would call back in the morning if it didn't show up. No one ever called. We live 30 miles away from the store so my husband called them before he left. They still don't have the car trailer. So, we had to cancel the reservation and are scrambling with U-Haul to find a truck. (Now hoping that they don't charge our credit card anyway seeing the reviews!) I wish we would have read these reviews before getting into this mess! This is the absolute worst customer services we have ever gotten from any truck rental... EVER! My husband and I were told where to park, we left our vehicle there, and when we returned it had been STOLEN. We were offered no compensation except for a ride home. They never offered to compensate us anything at all. The cameras were down in the parking lot and they absolutely did not care. Do NOT trust them with your vehicle. Eventually Our car was recovered by local police after substantial damage having been done. Budget never took any responsibility for anything at all. I am a person that really plans ahead and I reserved my rental truck the same day I gave my 30 day notice to my landlord. I received a confirmation email from budget three days before my move that my truck was confirmed and ready for my move day. At 3:00 P.M. on Friday I am at work and my cell phone rings. It's budget telling me my truck is no longer available. Seriously?!?! I have to try and find a moving truck in the next two hours for a Saturday move the next day?? The customer service was horrible and felt no sympathy. Just kept saying you reserve the price, not the truck. What does that mean?? With no truck there is no price!!! They said an inventory manager would call before 5:00. Yep, they never did. I called Uhaul and they worked hard to find me a truck close to me but said I was extremely lucky to get a truck on a Saturday with such short notice. I will NEVER rent from Budget again! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would, because that's how much this location cares about renting trucks and giving a damn about customers. I reserved a truck online on a Thursday, 3 days ahead of schedule, got a confirmation number, and got ready to move. On Friday afternoon at 4:45, while I was away from my phone, I got a call from the location: "Hi, I see you have a reservation for tomorrow at 8 am. We, uh, don't have a truck for you. You can call us after 11 tomorrow to see if we'll have one." WHAT? We were MOVING that day and could not wait until 11 to "see" if they'd have a truck! I called right back (around 4:50) but there was no answer. There would never be. I called several times that night and the next morning getting the message "All of the customer service agents at this location are busy serving other customers", and I kept being put into Budget's automated system. When I finally was able to get to Budget's "customer service" (after the system kept hanging up on me), I was told there was nothing they could do - except have me drive (at my own expense and me pay for the additional mileage on the truck) to a location a half hour away. Why couldn't they do that for me? They clearly had trucks at the other location, so basic resource management and customer service would say ferry a truck down! But alas, no. Saturday came and went. We made use of our backup plan and got moved just fine (luckily it wasn't raining so we used a friend's flatbed trailer) - no thanks to the absolutely inept Salem Budget truck rental office. DO NOT rely on these jokers if you're moving. The U-Haul here isn't much better, but at least they had a truck the last time I needed one. read more

Horrible experience. If I could give no stars I would. My friend and I flew to Portland to visit a friend in Salem, then went to get a car to drive up to Washington. I had a reservation months in advance but when we arrived we couldn't get our car. He ran a credit check since I was using a debit card but I wasn't worried since I have good credit. For some unknown reason it was declined, so we tried my friends credit card and license. Her license expired a month before but she showed the receipt that proved her new license was in the mail but they would not accept it. As a last effort we offered her passport as a second form of ID but nope, he told us he couldn't help us and that they were closing so we had to leave. He was unfriendly and offered no solutions to help us. We stepped outside to try calling a different rental place. When we tried to go back inside Budget, we realized they closed and locked us out of the store! We called enterprise on Pine street in Portland and they were very helpful, friendly, and said they would accept the two forms of ID we offered budget. Bottom line, don't go to Budget, go to Enterprise!!! read more

I rented a 16' truck and car trailer to move to Oregon from California. They must have gave me the worst truck they had to send to Oregon. As soon as I loaded the truck and started driving for a little bit, the brakes when pressed would shake the steering wheel a little. As soon as I started coming down Grant's Pass the steering wheel would shake violently and the front of the truck would shake. I was able to maneuver through the pass with little pumps of the brakes. Scary. Of course when dropping the truck off and calling customer service I was told they found nothing wrong with the truck. Good luck to the next guy/girl I hope you don't die. I was lured into Budget Truck Rental by an advertised rental rate of $19.95 per day. Before leaving the office I had paid $127.81, which included insurance and an appliance dolly. About a month later, I received a bill from Budget for an additional $425 in damages to the truck. First of all, I had the truck for six hours and returned it in exactly the same condition I received it. Secondly, I purchased insurance, which I tend to think is specifically for covering damage, which again, there was none. I'm deeply disappointed in Budget's mode of operandi. This is my second time getting a truck for moving stuff. Kicked myself that I rented with them again because the experience was the same, but you will find they are the cheapest and I got a discount through my work. Well you get what you pay for. The way they check out your truck is very old school and I even heard one of their computers wasn't working. Everything was paper. The truck itself was fine but they will nickel and dime you to get "their coverage". Every customer that was in there had a bad experience so I know I'm not alone. The staff in there is not friendly and are very frazzled. I think the CEO or president or someone of this company needs to come look at the dumpy office they have to work with and the lack of customer service skills these people have. Also the technology that needs to be upgraded (maybe provide tablets??). The gal was saying "I've been so busy I haven't had a break and won't get one until we close." I have twice rented a car through Budget rental at the Salem Airport. The first time Sashi was very helpful in lining up a car for after hours pick-up through Hut Shuttle...and it worked perfectly. The second time it didn't work so easily as Sashi was away...it worked perfectly when I dealt with regular rental hours. Much respect for the extra effort that Sashi put in to help me straighten many things from renting the car, to the straightening out all the charges and what they did or did not do in India. We reserved a luxury car for our vacation. We were told it would be $300.00. When we arrived to pick up the car, we were given a small " mid-size" Chevy Cruz. A great car if you are only two people and very little luggage not built for 4 people with luggage to travel 3500 miles. I am very disappointed that when we told the lady at the counter that we reserved a luxury car she told us that it would cost more to up grade. Vacationing on a budget does not give you a choice after you plan it out and can only budget for emergencies over the planned expenses. Budget car rental you are a big disappointment and we will not be using your services in the future nor will we recommend you to anyone we know looking for a rental car. Cannot believe this company is still in business. First address to return truck was wrong, took us to a car repair shop. Called phone number, no one answered. Finally found the return lot, employee, Terry was rude, fouled mouth, bad attitude and driving around the lot screeching tires and so fast thought he would hit someone. He evidently didn't like where we parked the truck even though the sign said park anywhere. Finally found a nice person to check us out and they just said he was in a bad mood. This is at 8:00 am, not like he was near the end of his shift. I will steer clear of Budget for any vehicle that I need to rent if they are going to hire people like this to run their shops.
