If I could give a -10 I would have. I rented my car through Costco travel. I was supposed to receive a hyundai venue or similar for 566. Unfortunately when I went to check in and pick up said car. I was told that an economy car would not be a hyundai venue and that all they could offer me was a Chevy spark and that it would not accommodate my suitcase, car seat or my 4 year old child. I then was told that I could upgrade to a different car but would have to pay the difference. I informed then it should be a free upgrade because they dont offer mu car and was told no and that instead of paying 566 I would be paying 709 instead. There was another family who also got their car at the same time i did and budget did not have their car and offered then a free upgrade. Also the person who checked me tried to strong arm me to get the extra insurance for the car after i told her multiple times i wouldnt need it, due to having insurance. She told me i should consider it due to theft, i again stated i didnt need it. She also tried to strong arm me into pre paying for gas, after i jad told her 3 times i didnt need to pre pay and the car would be returned full. She was extremely pushy and argumentative. The car I was given as an upgrade was extremely outdated. Car's tire pressure was off with 1 tire being 39 psi and 1 tire being 25 psi. Also the car felt as though the transmission was going out and felt as though it would stall everytime I stopped. The window wiper blades made driving every unsafe due to old blades. While it was raining I could barely see. This has all together been a horrible experience. I have contacted costco who has sent emails regarding my issues with no response. I am half tempted to revoke the charges on my car for the rental due to the lack of care and honoring a free upgrade when the company did not have the car I was supposed to get. read more

Budget deserves zero stars! My experience with Budget at the Honolulu International Airport was a nightmare from the start through to the last day. First, the agent couldn't find my reservation, despite the fact I had a fast break confirmation number and had my entire booking printed out on paper. I was first in line, but still had to wait over half an hour in the very hot, humid garage while the agent, who seemed like she didn't know what she was doing, took forever to get me a car. Finally, I was told what parking stall to find the car, but had to take photos of the entire vehicle as I wasn't given any paperwork to mark the numerous scratches, dents, etc. that were on the car and dirty seats. In fact, I was never provided any paperwork of any sort! Not even a basic contract! The car was washed on the exterior, but the inside windows weren't cleaned and the seats and doors looked like they had sunscreen on them. The next day, I saw a hazard warning on the dash indicating the rear right tire had only 21 psi so I had to quickly find a gas station at night to add air which I had to pay for. The hazard light came back on again noting low tire psi so I filled the same tire up with air again. At this point, I was terrified to drive the car back to the airport as I was staying 25 miles away and didn't want to get stuck on the highway. So, I kept calling the Budget office in Honolulu, but of course they don't ever answer the phone. You keep getting transferred to Budget's ridiculous national phone tree with a recording that asks you what country you're in and what company you're with (i.e. Budget, Avis, etc). I was never able to be connected to a real person and I called during the day. The recording just kept hanging up on me when I kept trying to connect to a representative. I was also not able to talk to a real person for roadside assistance. The only option was to receive a text. So, I called reservations a few times and got a real person, but they just connected me to the same useless phone tree. I called reservations again and insisted on speaking to a real person who would connect me to a real person in roadside assistance. That finally happened, but the roadside assistance so called "supervisor" was very rude, didn't care at all and told me I would have to pay Budget to change the tire and then dispute the charge with their nonexistent "customer service" department. They also said the other option is I would have to call my insurance company and pay them to change the tire. In other words, there is no such roadside assistance with Budget. This all took over an hour of complete aggravation causing me to become incredibly upset that no one would help me. Budget gave me a car with a bad tire and didn't care at all. This should not have fallen on me. Their faulty tire wasn't my responsibility. I was so upset and couldn't sleep all night knowing I had to drive that car 25 miles to bring it back to the airport on my last day. I filled up the tire again with air hoping it would last to get me to the airport. It did, but shortly after I got on the road, the check engine hazard light also came on the dash, which made me think Budget never serviced this car at all and it likely needed oil. When I returned the car to the airport, I told the two attendants what I had been through and told them not to rent this car to another customer again until they thoroughly service the car. I also told them how you never can talk to a real person and that roadside assistance basically doesn't exist. They both were nodding their heads as though they've heard all this before with other customers. Budget is awful! They do not care about customers nor their cars at all! Run away! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My wife left her wallet in the rental. Instead of doing their job and turning it in, the staff played "finders keepers." When it finally reappeared, every debit and credit card was missing and already being used for fraudulent charges. The IDs were the only thing returned -- almost like proof of who they stole from. We had a flight that same day. The AirTag showed the wallet sitting in their parking lot, but we were told there was "no possible way" to get it back. After pushing back, one helpful woman finally stepped in and returned the wallet and IDs. This place doesn't run like a rental car company -- it runs like a corner store with cars out front. Lost and Found? More like Lost and Stolen. The only saving grace was the manager, so we think, who at least tried to help. Everyone else? Clueless, careless, and likely complicit. We rented a car for anniversary trip on the island of Kauai. On day 2 after a boat excursion we went are rental and it wouldn't start. We didn't purchase roadside service and we were never asked to. We called any way and a 2 1/2 hours later a truck came. They couldn't jump start it because the starter was malfunctioning. We ended up getting towed and a new car plus Budget was kind enough to refund a days rental because we lost a half a day of our vacation. We thought was it. We thought wrong. Budget charged us $541.69 for the service of towing their malfunctioning vehicle. Customer service told me it was because we didn't purchase roadside service. The reviews are true. Finally happened to me here. Super busy. Busiest of all the other car rentals at HNL. I should have paid a few more dollars for Alamo. Was so rushed after waiting almost one hour in line. Make sure you to check what you signed and get invoice print outs/receipts, even though I booked through Costco Travel. Budget back doored a liability insurance on my rental agreement after I told the worker I don't want anything. Also, no receipt or invoice, no papers, no emails, ever, even after I dropped off the car. Worker said just leave keys and you're good to go. Kinda shady and fishy I thought, but they were so busy. Still never got an invoice or receipt until I called 2 days after returning the car and they only gave me half back of something I didn't want. I would think in America, especially a big company like Budget, you wouldn't get charged for something you didn't agree to and with no receipt or invoice at time of purchase. Every car I've rented had over 25k miles which is a lot for a rental at these price points. I booked at $40 a day, and denied their insurance. Yet Some how i end up paying over $75 a day??!! However, can't go above 2 stars due to the poorly maintained vehicle, which was taken out of service immediately after I returned it, as well as the frustrating customer service online and over the phone. I will never rent a car from this location again. They advertised a mid size SUV with a picture of a new Toyota RAV4 when I made a reservation. When I went to get a car the rep tells me they only have Kia Sportage left. The rep tells me the car is a year old one. (2024) But I verified it's 2021 from the registration card. While driving I found out the window of the passenger side does not work, makes a disturbing noise when driving on the freeway and the windshield wiper does not clean properly. In addition the Back up camera is scratched and the image on the screen is blurry. Management, you should be transparent with customers. Very disappointing experience. read more

Absolutely do not rent from this budget car rental. I got a car in a damaged condition at pickup and there was no one to go over the damages with. I did end up taking a video of the car at pickup. I get a letter in the mail after my vacation saying I owed them $2000. I tried to talk it over with customer service even showed them all the proof of the vehicle being damaged at pickup. Unfortunately the charges hold. And they are saying it's for a dime size crack in the windshield for a mazdacx30 and since they have to replace the windshield I have to pay $2000 for that. We stopped to fill up the gas tank in the town just before the airport and made sure to top it off until the pump handle clicked. The car was full. We then drove the 20 miles to the airport, assuming we were good to go. Apparently, we were supposed to drive three miles past the airport to find the "closest" gas station or risk being charged. Despite having filled up, the company charged us $70 for a full tank, which is absurd and completely unjustified. I know a lot of my fellow Yelpers have noted this Budget office takes forever. In all honesty, I can't leave a bad review for that reason. Sure - it's frustrating to have to wait 45 minutes to an hour to rent a car after being on a flight for so long but it's not the fault of the team running this branch. The world is reopening and we are seeing almost-post-covid traveling numbers so as the floods of tourists flock in from all over the world -- these guys are doing their best to handle the overwhelming number of requests for a rental car. Our service was great -- no issues with the associate that checked us in and once we got through the line, we were in our rental and well on our way within minutes. I don't blame this team for being understaffed. It's already difficult to find talent as it is and we have to also understand that there are hundreds and thousands of tourists coming into Hawaii now. After arriving in Honolulu from Dallas, Texas (8 hour flight), collecting our luggage we trekked over to get our rental car that we had reserved through Budget. Well, everyone and their brother was doing the same thing! The line was super long and continued to grow even after we arrived. At least it was fun people watching while we waited- at least an hour. Two young guys behind us were able to talk about this long wait for the entire hour!! How many ways can you say it? Well they could and did. It would have made you cry if it wasn't so comical! Avis is right next to Budget and nobody was in their lines. In fact some of the Avis agents (different uniform) were helping to pull from the Budget, which was much appreciated. I'm sure the lines get really long when a flight gets in and then after everyone is taken care of it's slow again. I'm just glad we had a car available when we were called to the counter. I actually arrived early because of my flight so I checked in with the office to see if I could get the car early. Unfortunately it is spring break so I could get it more than 30 minutes early which I totally get. We did the paperwork but when we went upstairs to get the car we ended up waiting almost 1.5 hours for the actual car to show up. The manager on duty promised to comp our gas when we returned the car. Fast forward 4 days they messed it up on the return. I guess we just got lucky, but we had nothing but a positive experience with this budget location. We were staying in Hawaii for 5 days with 2 children who still sit in car seats. So getting an Uber for every place we went to was out of the question. This place offered us the best rate on a van with the hotel package we had booked. It was a short bus ride from baggage claim; less than 10 minutes. We probably waited half an hour in line when we first arrived. They found our reservation and got us out the door quickly. The vehicles are located downstairs and after about a 15 minute wait, they brought us our van. It had a small dent on the bumper but no biggie. It ran smoothly throughout our whole trip. Definitely no complaints. Drop off was easy as well. We trekked in some sand from our adventure to the North Shore, but the attendant said it wasn't a problem. I paid a lot of money to rent a vehicle for 9 days and my initial van was absolutely disgusting. The interior was sticky to the touch, dirty, and overall bad quality. I asked for another vehicle which the employees were accommodating on that front. However the replacement vehicle wasn't much cleaner and I needed to hand wipe it down to get the interior cleaned. I will never again spend $600 to rent a dirty vehicle again from budget and I would urge others to rent elsewhere. On top of that they tried to upsell me on all kinds of other coverages that already come standard with your personal insurance. Customers beware of their "GAS" charge scam at Honolulu Airport!! I received a car less than full tank on the day I rented the car. The car attendant said to take a photo and return it at the same amount. Upon returning the car, I returned it at FULL. The gas gauge was at FULL. But I still was charged an additional $22 @ $7/ gallon. I was not even provided a receipt and was just told to check my email. Luckily, I checked and I didn't get an email so I asked for a print out and noticed this small and unusual charge of $22. Apparently, the customer rep. stated even though the gas gauge is at full, the cars have "gas chips" that their monitor reads upon return of the car. So you are automatically charged if the gas chip notices a deficit- even with the gas gauge needle at full. There was no refund and no manager on site ("called in sick"). I bet many people are scammed and many don't even check their receipts. This sounds like a class action lawsuit. read more

Came back home and needed to rent a car to drive to my nieces funeral. I was so out of it and when I returned the rental, I forgot to take my belongings and I know I left it in the car because I changed my footwear before driving down to return the car. I still don't get how they recover my sunglasses that was in the console but wasn't able to see my sandals that was behind the driver side back on the backseat? I would think they receive the car from me, clean it and someone should have seen the footwear in the back seat then put it on the side and write the car rental license plate return it to the lost and found. We called the company who advised us to come in and exchange the vehicle. We were told it would not cost us anything extra as we had it in our rental agreement that it was covered. On day 14 we turned the new vehicle in and left the island. A week later we checked our credit card statement, and budget had double charged our card. We called budget who told us that the charge was a mistake and should not post and not to worry about it. A few days later, both charges posted. We called budget back, who told us that there wasn't anything they could do and to call our credit card. We called our credit card and started the dispute like budget told us to do. It's now been 4 months, and budget had argued our dispute saying it wasn't a duplicate charge and was actually correct. Do not trust this company with your money at all. read more

This place is ridiculous! We rented a Tesla and had to return the car three times since each car we got had a rapidly deflating tire. We had to drive a little and park overnight to then discover in the morning that one tire had deflated to 34 psi. Tesla recommends tire pressure of 42 for the model 3. They don't know how to take care of these cars. Each car that we tried was so poorly maintained. Then after finding one that wasn't damaged we rented it for more than a month. Then they accused us of damaging a tire and trying to charge an additional $100+ without providing proof. We asked for documentation and pictures and got nothing. We took very good care of the car as we own several teslas back home. This is unethical and an outright scam. We will notify Costco of this poorly run operation as we rented through Costco. read more

The day I arrived I wasn't sure if I wanted to rent a car or just use a share ride. Good thing I booked online and it was super quick. Highly recommend doing it online so once you get to the counter they'll just verify the informations. It took me a couple of minutes to book while waiting in line. My car was ready sooner than I expected! The lady guided me of what comes with the vehicle, sign away, and was guided where to go to pick up and also where/how to drop it off. Super easy, well worth my budget for the short trip. And def. Will be using them again if ever I visit back. My vehicle was clean. I also made sure to take a picture or have a video of the vehicle before leaving the parking structure so I know the condition of it before returning. After dropping it off within 48hrs I got the final charged price and was impressed of how easy booking and returning was. read more

I returned the Jeep to the Honolulu airport that I rented from Budget with a full tank of gas. I was charged $117.10 for returning the Jeep with only 5 gallons of gas, which was objectively and patently false. I filled up the Jeep at a Texaco gas station 1.1 miles away from the Honolulu airport, and I have the time-stamped receipt to prove this. Now, I have had to spend over an hour, with one very disrespectful and condescending customer service representative, to get this refund. I should NOT have been charged this $117.10, and I should NOT have had to spend over an hour getting this refund. I will NOT be using Budget ever again. You just lost a customer. read more

My reservation was for 1400. They told me to wait 15 - 20 minutes while they serviced a vehicle for me. SEVEN people came after me and got cars. At 1450 I went back to the desk. At that point they told me wait "just five minutes". I got up at 4 this morning. Been on a plane for 10 hours. Tired and hungry. Really annoyed. They brought the car at 1458. Of course they started charging me at 1400!!! When I asked them to change the contract they said the price would go up. Automated message kept saying if we provided flight number they are aware of the delay and will stay open til the last flight lands. Arrived past the closing time, took the shuttle over and guess what? They were closed. Called the number again and spoke to an incompetent representative who would not let me speak and was trying to transfer me to a different Budget that was also closed. The other option was to wait til 5 am for them to reopen. It was 2 am and no one was at the airport anymore. Another couple was also told the same thing but luckily found a ride. Our recent experience with Budget at the airport was great! We arrived on a Thursday around 2pm. There was a line, but it moved at a pace that is expected when being assisted with a car rental. Turow was our agent. We were called over with an Aloha and a smile. He was very friendly, courteous and ensured we understood our pricing with additional options such as insurance, etc. Thank you Turow for your excellent service! We got the car we reserved and retrieving our vehicle was very easy and seamless. The jeep was thoroughly cleaned and exiting the parking lot with the QR code was a breeze.
