I took one look at the Budget line rental counter, which was probably thirty people deep while they only had two people working the counter. Then I looked left and right and saw the Avis and other rental car companies counters that were well staffed and not busy at all and decided to skip the line. I went online and cancelled my reservation and then hit the Avis counter to the right. I immediately got a car, but didn't have much of a choice of cars as they were low on inventory and I hadn't reserved one. But the Corolla I got was dirty, the floor mats needed some washing, and the person at the garage apologized but I took the car anyway. However, a month later I got a bill that "required cleaning" and sent photos for dirty dashboards and seats. When I emailed to the suggested email address I got an answer saying they would not look any further and I had to pay the bill. The car had not even been under my possession during the dates of their claim. My advise: TAKE A VIDEO OF THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE of your rental so they don't randomly charge you for things they come up with. read more

The attendant was really friendly, too friendly and a fast talker. She glossed over a lot of details and very nearly stuck me with an extra $40 in fees per day, even after I said "no, thanks, just the car". Making it even harder to keep a close eye on them is she tried to say that the nearly double rate was just because of security deposit so I wasn't seeing the actual rate. But then I was reading through the fine print on the screen and happened to notice the fee and called her out. She then agreed to remove it and recharged me. Be careful! I appreciated that I was able to pick my car from any in the lane but the garage attendees were not very attentive at all, just like walking away and slowly moseying around before approaching me as I sat there in the car at the tent as they had requested me to do. Approximately 75% of the passengers on that flight were active-duty Marines attempting to return to base before their required 7:00 PM check-in following their four-day Memorial Day leave. My son was among them. With no available replacement flights to San Angelo, these young Marines had no choice but to rent a vehicle in order to fulfill their military obligations and avoid being late returning to base. I personally checked online pricing and found that a one-day rental through Budget was being quoted between $70 and $80. However, when my son and the other Marines arrived at the Budget counter to rent the vehicle, they were charged an outrageous $211 for a one-day rental. The oldest among them was only 23 years old. The only apparent difference was that they needed the vehicle immediately at approximately 5:30 PM instead of later in the evening. This was not a luxury purchase or a vacation convenience. These were active-duty United States Marines placed in an impossible situation on Memorial Day of all days -- a holiday meant to honor those who serve and sacrifice for this country. Instead of showing any level of decency, understanding, or appreciation, Budget took advantage of a group of young servicemen who had no alternative and desperately needed transportation to return to base on time. Charging more than three times the online quoted rate under these circumstances is not only exploitative, it is morally reprehensible. Rented an Electric Car this time around for 5 days, and it was a good way to be introduced to an all-electric car. Usually using Budget FastPass means being able to skip the line and go directly to your car. My name did appear on the board, with the location being marked as 'CNTR'. I thought this meant the CeNTeR area, where I could choose my car. But no...it meant 'CouNTeR'...so needed to stand in-line anyway. In retrospect, it turned out for the best since I needed to add a secondary driver to the rental. The counter agent was deliberate and accurate, but we came at a well-staffed time so was able to be done under 30 minutes (definitely what is considered 'fast' depends on the type of business one is doing). The Hyundai Ioniq 2023 was fun to drive. The 2025 model now is compatible with the Tesla superchargers that are more prevalent than the CCS chargers that the 2023 needed. We discovered this through trial and error, not with much help from the rental agency itself. And after doing come simple calculations, it looked like it was actually more expensive to pay for electric charging than filling up using gasoline (since gas is cheaper in Texas and we used a supercharger). "Piece of $h!t Car" - Adam Sandler Booked through Costco, initially it was Enterprise but I cancelled that for Budget as I was saving about $20 more. BIG MISTAKE. Enterprise had no line. The Budget here had a line almost to the door (see pics). Waited 1.5 hours in line. Only one agent at the desk. After about an hour and with the line growing longer, two more agents show up, presumably, after their lunch, because after the two agents got there, the other one disappeared. Our agent was very abrupt. You can tell he hated his job. We were friendly to him but he was irritated at the small talk. He sent us out to an EMPTY lot with no car. We looked confused, and an employee in the garage said the agent probably booked the car a few seconds after another agent booked it out. We asked him if we had to stand back in line. He said no, just cut in. We got filthy looks from people who were already waiting in line. The agent didn't even address us. We had to tell him we had no car waiting for us. He didn't even apologize. He sent us back out. We got a filthy car. It was caked in grime, and all the way from Washington too. The inside of the car was also not cleaned but my husband didn't want to deal with that agent again, or wait in line again, or get filthy looks again, so we drove off. The windshield was so dirty, we had to go to a gas station to squeegie the dirt off, as the windshield wiper fluid was empty. Returning the car was confusing. The person waving us in waved us into a lane that had a parked car, no one was moving. After a few minutes, we got out of that lane and waited in another lane. Not moving again, but there were people pulling in behind us, getting their luggage out already. No one came to our car and after a few minutes, we got out. The guy who was supposed to inspect our car was yelling at the guy who was directing people into the wrong lanes. We gave our key to the guy and made sure he walked to the correct car. Ay caramba. It was a hassle and multiple safety issues. The agent insisted I take a huge 4dr truck. I don't mind an upgrade. But she stated they did not have the vehicle type I rented. The 1st truck had a spare tire on it and an unsecured flat tire in the bed of the truck. Going 70 mph on the highway. Not safe with a spare tire. Let alone unsecured stuff in the back. I return back to the check in counter. The agent saw me. Did not acknowledge me. And took her time chatting up another customer. Meanwhile my delay is getting longer. She give me another huge truck. This one was dirty. Fuel tank was not full. (I always return full). Not worth the hassle of getting the over charge is fuel service. This truck had one tire that was 28psi. When the rest of the tires were 35psi. Already late, I did not have the time to go back and swap vehicles for the 3rd time! I took it. Hoping it was just low and not a slow leak. IT WAS a slow leak. Now I have to deal with that.... Stopping every day to spend money at a gas station to fill air. My days in Dallas are 12-15 hr days. So I don't have time to swap out cars and other locations close at 6pm. I did end up making it to a budget shop downtown where Trey, stayed late to inflate my tire. I really appreciated him. I short, I lost of a lot time dealing with a sub- par vehicles and paid more for gas since it's a huge truck, filling air in my leaking tire, and general concern for my safety. Ms Allen took me to the front desk and James Cunningham, completed my paperwork and took care of me.... Sigh...what to say? Everything about this rental from Budget was an abysmal experience. I had a reservation for 12 pm pickup from DFW airport and upon arriving at the rental car location, the line was down the building. I was shocked. I thought it was because it was a Friday and perhaps it's the uptick before the weekend. But nope, it looks like this is the norm for this location. With 3 employees working the counter, the line to get my car took 2 hours. Then after getting the paperwork, I went out to the lot to retrieve the car, which there was another line that took 30 minutes. It also looked like Budget ran out of cars, because the car I got was from Avis and it was a huge Ford SUV when I had requested a compact car. Anyways, at the end of all that, I was just glad to have gotten a car. It doesn't seem like having a reservation helped the process either. I got my car 2.5 hours after waiting in line. I prepaid for a FastBreak car rental and got a text when my flight landed telling me to pick any car in Zone 2. There were no cars in Zones 1, 2, or 3. No one was at the Budget desk in the garage, so I had to wait in line for an hour. I was then assigned a different car in the Avis lot, only to find someone else already in it because they had rented the same car to him as well. When booking I noted the daily rate to be under $50/day. I chose to rent the car for a week at a much lower rate. I returned the vehicle after two days. I figured I would NOT get an extra low rate of $185 divided by 7 days. I was charged at a rate of $70/day rate ( before taxes and charges) rather than the under $50/day rate this vehicle indicated to be at the time i reserved, at the time i picked up, and at the time of return. After an experience with a long line at a Budget location last October, and given the expected crowding in conjunction with the eclipse weekend in Dallas, I reserved the car over 6 months in advance and also signed up for their Fast Break program to skip the line. Just before the trip, I got an email from Budget about having to do some last minute registration about Fast Break. I filled this out, though it seemed more like I was re-doing the rental... We arrived at DFW airport and took the shuttle to the rental car facility. Budget had a sign that basically said that if it was your first time using Fast Break, that you should go to the Avis counter to check in... Ok. I did that and they confirmed me and told me where to go next. I went out to the garage and a helpful lady there pointed me to 'zone 3' and said that I could pick any vehicle and go ahead. To Budget's credit, this was all done pretty quickly and was much shorter than waiting in line. But... We selected our first vehicle (a Nissan) and it showed one tire as being under inflated. I didn't want to have to immediately deal with that, so we unloaded the bags and tried a 2nd vehicle (a Jeep, I think). This turned out to be a hybrid and I wasn't even sure that it turned on when I hit the start button (and I've leased an electric car previously). Rather than sort that out, we moved on to vehicle #3 - a Chevy Equinox. This actually started and had all 4 tires inflated, so we went with it (despite my being a former Chevette driver). When we got to the exit gate, the lady there noted that I apparently had 2 reservations today. I explained what was probably obvious - that I only intended to have one. She nodded and left me with the impression that this wasn't the first time she's encountered this. Which leads me back to the Budget email / website. If your communication is so poor that it leads the average customer to mistakenly double up on their reservations, is this a good way of doing business? Are you just counting on some of them not to complain and pay double for one car? I do not plan on renting from Budget again in the foreseeable future (though, in fairness, I had no subsequent issues with the Equinox itself). read more

I rented a vehicle from Budget at DFW Airport and was shocked to be charged a $450 cleaning fee for smoking. I don't smoke and there was absolutely no reason for this charge. When I disputed it, the staff were dismissive and unhelpful. It feels like a scam to pad their revenue with bogus fees. The car was returned in normal condition, and I was billed for something that never happened. I've since filed a dispute with Visa and a complaint with the BBB. I strongly advise anyone renting from this location to take extensive photos and videos of the vehicle at pickup and drop-off, because they clearly don't mind making false claims. Once it was our turn, they said they had to drive our vehicle in from from another location. Luckily that was only about 15 minutes. It sounded like other people in line didn't get their vehicle at all. The "reserve ahead" app obviously wasn't working. Then no one told us, newbies to Dallas, that we would absolutely need to buy a toll pass no matter which freeway we took out of the airport. So we racked up a toll with penalties within minutes of getting on the road, and will probably have to pay again when we return the car. I rented a car and everything was fine. The car had windshield damage so I told the agent and they said I had nothing to worry about. Returned and said "hey, you won't bill me for the windshield damage, right?" They assured me they marked it. They did not mark it. Nor did they care. They tried to bill me $599 2 days after returning the car. Thank God I had taken photos of everything (also people make sure to take a photo with the odometer mileage to "prove" when the photo was taken). So I started the headache process of calling their customer service (1 hour wait by the way) after showing the agent the photos they relented and said they damage was preexisting. If you think the Budget nightmare ends there, think again - they emailed me ANOTHER claim saying I owed $284 for windshield damage. I wrote them a prompt email telling them to stop harassing me but of course they never responded so they billed me $284 and now I have to call them a THIRD time to deal with their unprofessionalism. Take your money elsewhere. All the rental companies are probably like this anyways... if only we had some sort of government protection agency to shield consumers against corporations like they do in Europe, wouldn't that be nice? I found it odd that the app said I was in one car but the worker said choose any car. I went to exit and the person working the gate had to change the car I was in manually. He wrote down the wrong license plate number by 1 number. Now I am getting charged for the car because they said I haven't returned it and they need 5-7 days to investigate. While it may be the fault of the gate worker who may not have been a budget employee, the wait of 5-7 business days to investigate and keep getting charged is unacceptable. read more

These agents are scammers. First the guy lied and said I didn't need to fuel up since fuel was 2.19 and they charged 2.19. When I returned, they charged me for a full tank for $70 instead of just a few gallons. Then he asked me "Do you want to be upgraded to a truck?" I said "Sure!". At no time did he tell me there was an upcharge. We then went out to the spot where the truck was, it wasn't there. We talked to a guy in a red shirt who put me in another truck. This truck was a P.O.S. 67K miles, windshield wipers didn't work and rode like a horse. They didn't update the miles on the truck for the beginning of the trip so I was charged $8700 dollars for a three day rental. Took them three weeks to refund me. I have a $5k limit on my card, I was not able to book any more travel until they figured it out. Ended up disputing the charge with Chase Bank who put a hold on the charge. Finally the charge was fixed after numerous phone calls. I look at the receipt again and the guy charged me for the upgrade. Called again and they agreed to remove that charge. I'll never use Budget DFW again! If I have to, I know what to look for next time. read more
