We rented a truck here two weeks in advance. We rented a 12 foot truck. We chose budget because it was less expensive than the other companies. However, upon renting the truck we were told we had to buy $450 worth of car insurance or we could not have a truck. We were never told about this. We have excellent car insurance and every time we have rented a car or a truck in the past, they have used our own car insurance. This $450 with a car insurance made them level with Penske who has newer trucks. We drove all the way to Riverside from Texas and had people waiting for us in big bear to fill this truck and we had no time to shop. This was a total bait & switch. I highly recommend if you are reading this review that you call Penske because our truck was horrible. Only one tail light worked correctly the other one i could barely see. The truck road rough and had horrible gas mileage and was dirty. The day prior to our rental date, when we were driving to California from Texas and could not make any changes, they said they did not have a 12 foot truck but would give us a 16 foot truck for the same price, to which we agreed because we had no other choice. The next morning-we arrived in Riverside California to rent a truck. They promptly told us they had no 16 foot truck, but they would give us a small moving van. The van would not be big enough so we declined. We waited about 45 minutes to see if a 16 foot truck would be turned in which it was not. It seems that they only have one. They gave us a 24 foot truck instead. We filled about 12 feet of this truck with furniture, which made the drive from California to Texas quite uncomfortable, especially with the wind storms we drove through. Not only will I never rent from this budget again, I will never rent from budget again. This experience was horrible. read more

Why oh why didn't I stick with U-Haul instead of going with their retarded step-brother Budget??? My experience was so bad it was stranger than fiction! Call it "Lift-Gate". Never ever EVER again will I do business with these clowns. I had used U-Haul to move my belongings into two storages, and I thought I'd go with Budget to move everything from there into my new house- Bad bad bad decision. I called the location but they didn't pick up, and so I was re-routed to the Budget National Appointment Center where I ordered a 24 foot truck with a loading ramp for a Saturday pickup. On the morning of the big move I called them to tell them I was going to be a few minutes late, only to be informed at that time that they only had a truck with a lift-gate available (instead of one with a ramp). With U-Haul I had used the ramp and it worked out great for me, and so I wasn't happy with the idea of having to use the lift-gate instead. I protested this development, and instead of being apologetic or consoling the woman curtly told me that they had to cancel 3 other people's reservations due to not having enough trucks available (i.e. I was one of the lucky ones), and so I could either take it or leave it because if I did not want it then she could simply call back one of those other clients and give it to them. She also made it clear that she was busy and did not have time to talk to me. So I told her to give me a few minutes and I'd let her know of my decision. I really wasn't keen on the lift-gate and so I called up the National Center to complain, and to see if another location perhaps could get me the truck I wanted. They couldn't, but they did tell me that there was a truck with a loading ramp available at the same Riverside location available for the next day at the University location, and I could call the location back and reserve it. When I called the local store back with the news, the same woman snorted that the National Center was wrong, that there would be no truck with a ramp available today or tomorrow, and she doesn't understand why "they" keep telling people that. Clearly they have an issue there of one hand not talking to the other. Deflated, I said that I would then just have to accept the lift gate truck and keep my appointment for today. I arrived determined to make the best of things but the story only gets worse. Come to find out that you have to keep the truck running to operate the lift, otherwise the battery will die. I was going to be unloading deep into the night with my new neighbors having to listen to a truck running and costing me who knows how much in gas. As I voiced my concern to the guy working the counter, out comes an obnoxious overweight woman with bad teeth from the office (the one from the phone calls) who pipes in that the truck runs on diesel and so the gas cost is next to nothing (I don't know how true that is). Now when I made the initial appointment with the National Call Center they assured me that I could use my PayPal debit card to reserve the truck, but that I could pay the initial $150 deposit with cash. But when I attempted to do that, these guys inform me that their location doesn't accept cash. And not only that but they can't take the PayPal debit card either- it had to be a bank debit card. I had just changed banks and only had a temporary card, meaning that basically I was screwed and couldn't get the truck. So now I'm pissed and demanding to know why I wasn't told this when I made the appointment. Her- "Well if you had called us directly we could have told you" Me- "Well I TRIED to make the appointment with you but you didn't pick up and so I was re-routed!" Let me tell you...they could give a flying fuck that I was upset. They were completely stone-faced about the whole thing. The guy didn't say much but the woman was very cavalier about things and just clearly couldn't care less. I get better customer service at the DMV or with the cable company, seriously. Clearly these kind of shenanigans are standard operating procedure for them. I didn't get anything close to an apology or a mea culpa from her. She was like a wooden Indian and the only time she came close to showing a human emotion was when she told me I didn't need to use foul language after I said the whole thing was bullshit. And when I told her that I was very upset and was going to go on Yelp and give them a bad review, she very flatly said, "That's fine". After I picked up my jaw from the floor I told them to cancel the whole thing, and the next day I went with U-Haul. There is no comparison between these two companies when it comes to professionalism. When someone is moving, you can't be playing games with people's lives like that, not having a truck for them as promised, pulling a bait and switch on them and jerking them around. That truck has to be there AS PROMISED, and so you'd better beware if you deal with this company. Good riddance! read more

I had read reviews about this place stating they don't actually reserve a truck for you when you order it in advanced. Given that, before I reserved my truck online, I called and asked the front desk there to look in the computer and tell me exactly what was available. He stated they only had one 16' truck left so I ordered it. I also asked him if the truck would definitely be there for me and he said as soon as I put my CC info in, the truck would automatically be held for me. I was still slightly skeptical so I came in as soon as they opened to ensure I got a truck. I waited for 10 minutes while the one receptionist took 3 phone calls, all in which she informed the callers there were no trucks whatsoever available and their CC would be reimbursed. The first thing she said to me was, "did we call you last night and cancel your reservation." After 30 minutes, she told me I could only rent a truck if I returned it to that location, even though I ordered a one way trip. She was short with me and rude even though Budget was clearly the ones who screwed up. She gave me a shorter truck and because we didn't get what we reserved we had to leave 3 pieces of furniture on the street for free! She told me there were only 4 trucks for 12 reservations. By the time I left at 8:30 am, there were already 3 people standing in line to pick up a truck behind me. So granted their prices are significantly cheaper than their competitors in the area (Penske and U-haul), if you need a truck, I highly recommend you show up at their door and make sure you're the first one there because a reservation by no means you'll have a truck waiting for you! I normally rent U-haul but Budget was offering half the price. Or so we thought. Booked a 12' truck with Budget for the next day with my daughter paying the $79 and I would drive it. The next morning I get an email saying that I would need to purchase insurance and it was a separate charge of $100 or more depending on the coverage we wanted. U-haul has insurance starting at $20 so I don't understand why Budgets cheapest is $80 more. Cannot cancel at this point or $75 cancellation fee. We then go to pick up the truck and are told we now have to pay a separate $25 because I was driving and she was paying so we had to pay for 2 drivers. We are also informed we have been given a complimentary upgrade 16' truck. Bigger truck meant harder for me to drive as well as more gas. Mpg was an 8 gallon difference and we were not offered a discount or to put a little less gas in it or anything. We were basically told we didn't have a choice in the complimentary upgrade. We also had to drive an hour out of the way to drop the truck off because they don't have as many drop off locations as U-haul. Get to the drop off location and all I can see is a tight driveway. I cannot see if there is another way to get in because of tall bushes surrounding the parking lot. I pull in to see that 2 other smaller trucks are blocking either way to the actual parking lot. All I can do is park where I am at. Then a worker comes out yelling I have to move the truck to the other side bc the dumpster cannot be blocked. He refused to move either of the 2 other trucks so I could pull in. Instead I had to have the police block both ways on the road so we could back out onto the busy road that I cant see because of the tall bushes to pull around to the other side. Just wow. Basically hidden fees, crap complimentary upgrade, crap truck, and horrible customer service. I forgot to mention it was raining and our cab leaked. They never gave us umbrellas or raincoats. Not only did they rent me faulty equipment but I was then held hostage by Budget rental truck mid move from CA to KY.. in Arkansas... 2 drive days lost and I was not allowed to move the truck because they found out about said faulty equipment and said they would call the police and report the vehicle stolen if I willingly put myself in danger... i had to pay for hotel and food in a gown I didn't know ... with my dog with me... alone.... and still not help fixing it... read more

I have been a loyal Budget customer for the past couple of years, renting a car many times a year for my business. I have had issues with other locations in the past, but Budget's corporate has always taken care of me so I stuck around (also, the locations in airports have always been great). Well, I can't say the same about this particular location. The customer service is AWFUL. There are two girls who work there and they are the only ones I've seen. One is as dry as sand and never once cracks a smile, the other is smiley but neither of them are capable of understanding the simple concept of CUSTOMER SERVICE. At my most recent visit, I was returning a car that I rented for a few days. When I picked it up, they would not honor my coupon from the Entertainment book because I did not have the coupon on hand. Well, when I called (it was for a free double upgrade) the girl on the phone asked for both of the numbers on the coupon and said, and I quote, "Okay, you're all set for a full sized car. See you on Friday!" - so it didn't really cross my mind that I needed to bring it. Well, I apparently I did. That was annoying, but whatever. Then, I get my car and not only is it filthy on the outside, but when I went to check the tank, it was less than half full. I have NEVER rented a car that didn't come with a full tank. So, did they charge whomever returned it $7.99/gallon but never refill it before the next customer got it?? I told the girl who walked around the car with me, "It's a little under half a tank" and assumed she wrote that down. I was running late so I signed the paper and was on my way. Fast forward to when I returned it. The girl goes out to check the tank and tells me that it's below where it was supposed to be. I even commented to my husband as I was returning it that I was returning it with a little more gas than I got it with. It was right at half a tank. EXACTLY. The girl says that she is going to charge me $7.99/gallon unless I get it to whatever point she imagined it should be at. I asked for the keys back so I could go and look. Again, RIGHT AT HALF A TANK, if you were being really picky which she obviously was, the ticker was maybe 2mm off of the 1/2 tank sign. So, so minimal, I'm not even joking you. Maybe it was where I parked?! No sane person would say that it was enough "under half a tank" to warrent a gallon of gas. Again, I was running late and literally did not have time to drive down the street and put gas in it for this rediculous reason. I asked her how much she was going to charge me. She said $14!! For 2mm on the tank ticker?! This was a tiny compact car and 2 gallons is probably 1/4 tank in this car. She would not budge. I got pretty heated at this point and she offered to just charge us for 1 gallon, so I said whatever and left. Once I got home, I looked at my paperwork and the woman charged me for the full TWO GALLONS. Oh man, the nerve. Long story, but yes, I am done doing business at this particular Budget location until the management can hire people who are a) competent, b) at least quasi-friendly and c) have a sliver of customer service skills. I really don't understand why these things are so difficult. Oh, and there was an entire stack of CD's in the car's dash. Do they literally not check or clean the car at all after someone returns it? Do yourself a favor and go to a different location or try a different company. If you have issues, call Budget corporate. They are always great. read more

Save your time. DO NOT rent a truck from here. First they don't have the smaller trucks (or so they say), the counter staff is bordering on rude and they could care less if you get a truck or not. Don't bother with the online reservation as it doesn't hold the truck for you. When I called to confirm they had my truck they said there were numerous breakdowns with their trucks so they did not have one for me. This might be true because on a trip up to NoCal I counted 3 yes 3 Budget Trucks on the side of the road, hood up. Pay the extra money and rent from U-Haul!! Don't even bother with this location!! Every step of the way they will throw you two steps back. No cash, fine, went and deposited the cash back into the bank, the card you use to pay has to be and can ONLY be the drivers. They changed the price of the truck on us 3 times, said they didn't have a truck when it was sitting right there on the lot, asked my marital status as if that would change the situation! Then when trying to pay, the card situation arose and he said it was policy! We rented 4 months ago and there was no policy! Every "policy" that Shane was quoting was NO WHERE to be found! There sure a a lot of bad reviews here. My experience was very opposite. Making the reservation was easy. Receive reminder emails. Went the day before to make sure I felt it was the right size for my move. Spoke with Shane who was polite and helpful. Showed up at 8am on Saturday. Was helped by Eileen who was great both at the check out and the return. Truck was clean and easy to use. There is a Mobile station 4 blocks away which is convenient to fill it up. read more

In the one and a half to two hours I spend in this Budget over two days, the owner was training 4 people, so things were rather disorganized. When I first arrived, I first felt bad for her, since some people were arguing with her and swearing at her. However, I soon saw why. The owner of this Budget has the most dominant, holier-than-thou attitude. She does whatever she pleases. One couple were renting a car, so one of the employees being trained asked the owner if they had the car the couple wanted. The owner said: "I don't know, just give them this car instead." She had a similar attitude for everything else. I was renting the smallest moving truck available. Though I had made an appointment a week or two ahead of time, she of course didn't have any left. She instead gave me a larger truck. (She didn't make me pay any extra, so I wasn't too angry. But people usually want certain sizes for a reason, and the one I got ended up being way too big and clunky). They were very disorganized. No one ever seemed to know if they had certain cars or trucks. (And knowing shouldn't be that hard, since, as Budgets go, it is a pretty small lot with a small selection of cars). Also, we had gotten a quote when we made the reservation, so my wife gave up her credit card to pay. After it was swiped, the owner said the total was 20$ more than the quote, so we disputed this. (The owner had added in some insurance thing that we weren't quoted, without telling us. She said we HAD to have it, then went on to say we didn't. So it was really confusing). We got the quoted price, but the owner said she can't swipe a credit card twice in one day, even though she cancelled the transaction, so we had to use my credit cards. I went online to reserve a truck one day before going to the location to pick it up. I show up to pick up the truck just like the website told me to. The guy behind the counter just said "sorry we don't have a truck for you". I told him that I went online and made a reservation and he just said "you should have done it sooner". He was very rude and I didn't appreciate it. They did not even call me to let me know they didn't have a truck ready. Had they called me, I could have made plans to get another truck and now we can't move because no places in the area have trucks ready. He also lied and said that he didn't call me because their system is down and they didn't have access to my phone number...but I could see my name and info on his computer screen. These guys suck. Experienced the worst service ever, do not rent from here!!! There were 2 people who assisted me, Shane and Renee. First and foremost, Shane was very kind and courteous to me and have nothing but great things to say about him. Renee on the other hand is the worst customer service representative I have ever dealt with. Not only is she unprofessional, she was rude and offensive. Basically, I reserved a 12' moving truck and was given a cargo van (Nissan NV200) instead and was told by Renee that the interior dimensions were equal. How is that possible when the cargo space of the 12' moving truck is 380 cu. ft. while the cargo van is 122 cu. ft. When I returned the cargo van, I complained to Renee she was mistaken and as a result, I ended up making multiple trips instead of a single trip to move furniture. She then proceeded to tell me with a sassy attitude, "You should have called when you realized the truck was too small. Customers do this all the time when they return rentals to try and get a discount." First if all, I would not have asked for a discount if the van was big enough, but took her word on it since she is an employee of Budget and would hope she knew what she was talking about. Secondly, they were only open till 2pm so how could I get a hold of them, and besides, they didn't even have a 12' truck available so what good would that have done. When she asked where I got the specs of the truck and van, I told her from the Budget website. She then had the nerve to say the website was wrong and that she was right. In the end, all they gave me were 25 free miles (which didn't make any difference because I ended up driving 100 miles more than I was expecting). Renee's unprofessional, abrasive and offensive demeanor alone should warrant her to get fired but somehow she still holds a position there. If you do decide to rent from them, which I hope you don't, have anyone but RENEE help you!!! read more

They totally canceled my reservation due to the credit check, and then said we could no longer rent a car. Never coming to this shit place again!!!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IV EVER EXPERIENCED. A boy named Shane was the one to assisted me to rent a truck. First off, I had an appointment for 11am to rent one of their moving trucks and no one helped me until after 12. Second, I was told that I would be paying around $80 for it and He said I had to pay a fee of $24 if I was under the age of 24, then, if you didn't want to pay the $40+ for the insurance then they have to call YOUR insurance. That doesn't make any sense to me. So I left. I took my business to uhaul and I was only there for 5 min. The nice lady got me a truck for less than Budget. I wasn't forced to pay for insurance and she said the $24 underage fee at Budget was a bunch of bullcrap. and on top of all of that, they still charged me. I will NEVER recommend Budget to anyone and I will never be using their services again. read more

We made a reservation and then the day we were supposed to pick up our truck they called and told my husband that they had no truck for us and would provide us with a different truck. They called back several hours later to tell us they were cancelling our reservation. I called budget and they set up a new reservation at another location which they also cancelled. I stopped in to inquire about renting a truck, she gave me a quote, but she said to go online and I might be able to get it lower. So I did, the price changed twice in a matter of three minutes so I called her back. She said, oh yeah, prices change every hour, you should just take that price. Also told her that I just wanted to get the truck today and the tow trailer tomorrow and she said it was fine and they would help me connect it. Get there and its a different story. Was told they couldn't help me and I had to take the trailer the same day. Then she went on to tell me that no other rental places would operate like that, which was wrong because uhaul does help you connect. She doesn't even apologize and then she asks who I'm going with and when I tell her I'm renting a truck from enterprise, she looked at her co worker and said something under her breath. They are rude and just want to get you in the door and make you feel that they are the last choice. Never again will I rent from Budget. I would rather pay more for better service. read more

I rent here often, everyone is very helpful, and try's to make sure they help you as much as they can. People need to understand that sometime when someone rents a truck/ car and you rent a truck/car and that someone doesn't bring it back when its due back there will be no truck/ car for you. Getting mad at the people working here is a waste of time. What you should do is call and conform that everything is ok with your booking the day before, I would ask if anyone has it out and what time will they be back with what you rented, and always have a back of plan just incase. read more

NEVER EVER EVER use Budget Truck Rental. Pick up for our reservation was 2 and a half hours late (which online reservation states they can not guarantee a set time which is fine however with all the other issues its important). We asked the women at the desk if this truck would be okay pulling our tiny car on the trailer through Utah canyons and the Rockies, she assured us it would.Day 1: We left Riverside CA and about an hour and half into our trip (just outside Bakers CA we had a blow out on our trailer. We sat in the desert for 3 hours waiting (with our 2 small dogs) for 'Roadside Assistance' (I know this is also an outside contractor again it is important). He told my fiancee (who was driving the truck) that the tire was completely bald and that is what caused the blowout. We are now more than 3 hours behind schedule mind you and have to now pay for 2 hotels since we never made it to our first destination we were still charged. Day 2: Truck almost overheats through the Utah Canyons so my fiancé has to turn the A/C off (100 degrees outside) to make sure this doesn't happen where we then end up in a monsoon. The cab of the truck was not properly sealed and the cab became flooded as my fiance was rained on throughout the remainder of our trip through Utah. mixed with the sweat from the heat and then the rain and then back to sweating to make sure there was no overheating a rash appeared over half of her back. Next comes Colorado where again truck gets to the point of almost overheating and having to drive in 90 degree weather with no A/C. Day 3 we arrive safely(in Iowa) somehow and return the truck 2 days later. We head to the drop off location where the trailer pops off the ball of the hitch and the trailer goes under the truck snapping the emergency brake line. Thankfully there was neighbors around who helped us pull the trailer out from under and get it back on the ball. Well the Posi Lock Trailer Coupler was just spinning around and would not latch properly. We were given a faulty tailer with bald tires. We attempted to contact Roadside again (which we should have to document this as they are saying this is all hypothetical) I was on hold forever when the the trailer was being pushed back into a safer area (off the busy street we were on) when the lock came down and reattached. At this point we just wanted to return the truck and not wait another 3 hours for roadside. We returned to location which was closed. She called Customer Service immediately and was told they could not open a case until the 'contract was closed' She called the next day and was told they were 'escalating the issues since there were issues with the trailer' and that she would have to contact them back on the 31st. I have worked in customer service for over 6 years now and with issues like this why would you EVER tell the customer to contact YOU back? She called them back today a day early and a decision was already made and we would be reimburse NOTHING. She asked to speak to a supervisor. The phone rang and rang where my fiancee was then hung up on and had to call back where she finally spoke to a supervisor named Mike. He would cut her off to 'explain' how this wasn't their fault. She then asked for him not to interrupt so she could finished her issues. He then told her that this was all hypothetical and there would be nothing they would be doing BUT he would notate that 'she disagreed'. If you want to do business with a company who doesn't care about their customers ESPECIALLY their safety all to save a couple of bucks Budget might be for you. Everything will be your fault and they will treat you as such. They will rent you unsafe equipment and it will be your fault. Beware of this company and pay a little more money to use Uhaul or Penske. read more
