This is a really cute matcha shop tucked in between the shops of el paseo. I really liked their interior and liked their attention to detail of all the little things such as their cups, napkins, and presentations of the products they make. I felt their matcha Fri is were beautifully made and good quality matcha, I just felt that their flavors were on the muted side, and I couldn't get a taste for much of their unique syrups. The only downside could be that it is a bit expensive about $9-10 a drink, but understandable since they're using high quality matcha. It was a little cramped in this space but they're making do with the space they have and it's super cute inside! I've been here twice and loved it each time. The first time I got the iced strawberry matcha with oat milk, and the second time I tried the iced hojicha with banana cinnamon and oat milk. Both were super yummy and beautifully presented. I do wish they offered larger sizes, but everything was still really good. I went on a Friday around 11:30AM. There was no wait. The interior is nice, but it's not a sit-down cafe but rather a grab-and-go, as there are no tables and just a few stools to wait for your order. The staff were welcoming and kind. I had issues with paying with my card, and the cashier was very patient and assisted me. I got the honey lavender matcha and the banana cinnamon matcha, costing a total of about $22. I love how the alternative milk options weren't an additional price, but I think it's that way cause the drinks are already quite pricey. Both drinks were good. If I could give the drinks a rating, I'd say a 7.25/10. The cinnamon banana could have used less cinnamon, but I enjoyed the banana flavor. The flavor of both drinks overpowered the matcha flavor. Cream tops that coordinated with the flavors would've definitely elevated both drinks. The matcha itself was alright. I'm not sure if it's diluted, if they aren't using a lot of powder, or if they aren't using a super high quality matcha, but a greater matcha flavor would have been appreciated. I admit that I have incredibly high standards for matcha, but compared to cafes in OC, these drinks aren't up to par. If I'm ever in the area, I'd visit again, but I wouldn't come just to get a drink here like I did this time, as it is almost an hour drive for me. I don't think approximately $9.50-$11 is a justifiable price for these drinks, but I have hope that Buena Matcha will continue to refine and improve their drinks to be of higher quality and satisfying to their customers. read more

I really wanted to love this place again, especially after how great our first visit was. The vibe back then was warm and friendly. The owners were there, taking orders and making drinks, and you could feel the care they put into everything. It made the experience special and made us want to come back. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like the complete opposite. The staff working that day seemed completely uninterested and honestly, a bit cold. No greeting, no smile, no "thank you" just an overall unwelcoming vibe that made us feel like we were bothering them just by ordering. It really changes the whole energy of the place. I visited after someone recommended this new matcha spot on El Paseo. I ordered the Banana Cinnamon Matcha, and my partner got the decaf version. The shop is cute--clean, neutral tones, soft lighting--and the staff was very nice. Unfortunately, the drink was underwhelming. Aside from two banana chips on top, I didn't taste much banana, and it was a bit watered down. I had seen the looong lines when BM opened and considering the onset of Hell weather (but it's a dry heat!) into the Coachella Valley, I thought that a matcha on a hot day would do the trick. The interior is small but lovely, with clean lines and a warm, uncluttered atmosphere. I got the banana cinnamon matcha, which came with a liberal helping of fresh sliced bananas and soft, powdery cinnamon. Aesthetically the drink itself looked good enough to, well, drink. The matcha was creamy but not heavy, and definitely not watery. The flavors all coalesced into something that was very refreshing and nicely balanced. Every flavor was working together, and not taking away from each other. Yes, the drinks are on the expensive side (about $10 with tip) and the sizes aren't going to make a Big Gulp sweat. But you're essentially getting a Rolls Royce product, and sometimes you gotta shell out Rolls Royce prices. Would I make BM a weekly habit? Probably not. But I'd happily concede that I'd be getting a superior product when I do go. read more

It's not bitter so it doesn't need much sweetness or milk which is really refreshing. I've tried one with coconut and one with almond milk and both tasted great, sometimes one milk is better but not here. You really get to taste the matcha and also enjoy the other flavors of the syrups , not just taste the syrup. The inside of the cafe is also very cute and aesthetic , it's very cozy. First, I understand the owners put in a lot of money to create an aesthetic place but you cannot price your items based on wanting to make money back fast.
