Boba in this economy?! I know... I'm supposed to be saving money but sometimes a good boba splurge is needed and Chakaa Tea Shoppe was my stop of the day. Thankfully tea shops have become more regular here in the otherwise asian treat deprived desert. Chakaa Tea Shoppe is located at "The River" which is a small outdoor shopping spot situated around a manmade 'river'. The location used to be a starbucks and is perfectly set up for a tea shop to take up residence. Now for the honest, the tea is about average, I do appreciate the ample ordering options of non dairy milks. This time I ended up getting a coffee with boba as my treat vs my normal tea order. The staff is always super friendly and helpful if you have any questions. The boba was also VERY good and well made vs some places that provided under cooked or over cooked boba. A coffee with boba and a small tip ran me up almost $10 which is a little expensive for my taste but it IS a treat after all and not an every day buy. Of all the times I've come into this location they always seem to be warm inside and prefer to not run the AC. I tend to sweat a little bit which is a bit of a drag considering that they have tons of seating. I probably wouldn't drive to the river JUST for boba but if I'm in the area shopping in need of a pick me up to go this would be a good stop. read more

Cute little boba store in the desert. This shop has plenty of seating and a cute vibe. You can either order at the kiosk or the counter. Drinks were surprisingly good and came out quickly. It's not comparable to the boba you would get in orange county but it's really good for the area. read more

First time coming here. Wanted to find a sweet drink after dinner. It was the perfect refreshment for a warm evening. There was only 1 lady working and she was super sweet and kind. She took care of everything, from taking orders to making drinks. She did great, we ordered a mango green tea and a matcha milk tea. 10/10 amazing! Drinks were fresh and flavorful. Really good tea. Better than expected. Freshly brewed using espresso style machine. I got the Ceylon black tea with boba at 75% sugar with boba and it came out to just short of $8. Price is fair for this quality and area. Beautiful waterfall out front! For average boba drinkers, it is on the less sugary which I like. 100% sugar would fit most palates. read more

Unfortunately this place is quite understaffed and only had one person making the drinks and being cashier (though there's a self order kiosk). It took 25 minutes for our drinks because there was a big group in front of us that ordered a number of drinks and only one person making them. Roasted oolong milk tea with soymilk - 4/5 Jasmine green milk tea with soymilk - 4/5 The tea flavor could be stronger in both drinks, but maybe the choice of soymilk alternative washed out the tea aroma. I love the ambiance in here. It's very chill and calming. It's a perfect study spot while having access to really yummy drinks. Minimal decorations and furniture made it easier to settle in and hang out. The employee was very nice, patient and helpful. There's your traditional milk teas, fruity flavors and even slushies. Don't bother going here. Horrible customer service. I don't know who the guy is but he is the worst. Doesn't even bother asking if we're ready to order. He just walks up to register and stares at you. He was focused more on playing with his Nintendo switch instead of helping anyone out. Did not feel welcome at all. Very cute boba tea shop! There's plenty of cushion seatings, great place to hangout with friends, and get some yummy boba drinks! My favorite drink from here is Matcha strawberry drink! Delicious blends of cheese foam, matcha, and fresh purée strawberries. The flavor is not too sweet, a perfect hot weather treat as we're approaching summer weather. Mixed reviews for us on this boba shop on flavor. I would describe it more as a Japanese style boba, not very sweet and the jelly is added for sweetness. if you prefer lightly sweetened drinks, this is for you! those in our group (teens) where not a big fan, but they are more akin to very sweet boba teas. I loved the jasmine tea, very strong flavor and traditional taste of proper jasmine tea, but you must be a drinker of strong teas to have a pallet for this tea, but well worth it. Rarely do I find a tea house with strong tea, nothing else needed as this tea is lovely on its own! read more

Best boba tea shop in the Desert! After moved here from the Bay Area, took me a while to look for a good boba tea place. I tried different tea shops in the Coachella valley, this is the best I found. I'm pretty picky about boba tea because I've been drinking boba tea since 1980's and had owned a boba tea shop before. Not only the tea is good here but the service is also superior! I usually order Jasmine Green Milk Tea and this time I ordered Mango Matcha Milk Tea, both are very good! One very important thing I almost forgot to mention is that they make good boba here, it's chewy just the way it is supposed to be. Some other places make their Boba either too soft or too hard. I'm also lactose intolerant, Chakaa offers Oatmilk and Almond milk substitutes, just perfect! You probably already know... I'm a tea enthusiast and Chakaa Tea Shop @ the River has definitely earned my stamp of approval. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere is so inviting, cozy and modern with natural lighting and a beautiful water oasis right outside that makes you feel like you're sitting close to a tropical paradise (even in the desert). The menu has a wide variety of teas and flavors to choose from, and their tea experts are always happy to help you find the perfect blend to suit your mood. On my visit, I tried their famous matcha latte, and it was simply heavenly. It was creamy, frothy, and had just the right amount of sweetness. I typically ask for a quarter of the sweetness they would normally use in these types of tea shops and that has, on average, turned out quite well for me. For those of us who are watching their sugar I would request 1/2 to 1/4 of the typical sugar measurement. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable, although a bit understaffed. Chakaa Tea Shop is a not-so-hidden gem in Palm Springs/Cathedral City aka The River, and I highly recommend it to anyone who happens to be in this area and wants a cozy and relaxing environment to enjoy a delicious beverage. For some strange reason this place has a decent service fee. It add it at the checkout. The service and speed here are not worth it. Avoid.

Boba was over cooked or sat in liquid for too long so it doesn't provide the satisfying chew. Also the boba it self was not sweet which means it's not authentic. Authentic boba are made with tapioca flour and brown sugar. I know as I visit multiple times the birth place of boba in Taichung, Taiwan. read more

This is the BEST tea/boba spot I have ever been. I ordered the watermelon slushee with lychee jelly, and the wifey ordered the mango pomelo and they were both excellent and quench the thirst . Unlike other places, they use REAL fresh fruits (not powder like others). I was shocked that the nice lady took out a big watermelon, cut it opened and put big chunks of real fruit in making my slushee , and let me tell you, it is night and day compared to other places. I highly recommend going here for real fruit slushee or other drinks you won't be disappointed. read more

Most boba places they use powder mix and make the tea super sweet and you can't adjust the sugar level. Here they use real tea and milk which you can actually taste. I always get the house milk tea with boba and 50% sweetness. Their jasmine green milk tea also very good. The ambiance is very nice, great for students just hang out and chill, study. I found Chakka and was happy to make the 10-minute additional drive in the opposite direction of going home to satisfy my carving. DRINKS Wintermelon Tea (noncaffeinated), 25% sweetness level, with crystal boba. The drink was really good and just to my liking. Not too sweet and good flavor. The staff kindly swapped out the boba with crystal boba too. Roasted Oolong Milk Tea and 50% sweetness level. The oolong milk tea was so fragrant. The boba was ok. SERVICE The 2 ladies were smiley, friendly, and very helpful. AMBIANCE Chakka is a cute and very clean shop about 6 months old. The string lights help create a vibe. PRICE The price was fair. For 2 drinks it was around $13. PARKING Plenty of parking since it's located in a big plaza call The River. I know where I can find good boba milk tea now when I'm in the desert! I am pleasantly surprised with this boba place and I'm happy that this place gives some life to the River. We came here for the first time and ordered the Roasted Oolong Milk tea and the Bobo Taro Fresh Milk Tea. I had mine at 50% sugar and it was really tasty, also I really liked the boba taste and consistency. The inside is very spacious, they also had merchandise with cute boba plushies. The decor inside and outside was very cute, even the boba cups had such a pretty design. Wait time was a little long, there was an order or two before us and there was only one person working. I really enjoyed it on a very chilly night. My friend has the hot taro milk tea. Environment: Has a couch and several tables to hang out with friends. I wish some music was playing. My friend told me that the last time we came to this place they played country music. Although I don't like country music, it was kinda awkward to talk without background music because it just sounds like a hollow building. Service: the worker took his time with the drinks he made and it is worth it because his drinks tasted good. He also knew what he was talking about when it came to the menu. I highly recommend this place if you're at the River. I would rather come here than get ice cream. I would think it's a good first date place. The boba drinks here are delicious!! Having tried boba from LA/San Gabriel area, I gotta say that Chakaa is on par with the better shops I've been to. We tried their taro milk tea with boba & their brown sugar boba milk. Both were absolutely delicious--creamy, flavorful, & well balanced. Located at The River, is a cute Tea Shoppe. The inside is pretty big with plenty of seating and they do have a mini shop inside with chips and candy. They have a variety of drinks and toppings as well as cup options! They have these really cute bear and gingerbread cups. Their regular cups are really good quality, they're pretty solid and don't bend in like a lot of other boba cups do. I ordered their thai tea latte and roasted oolong milk tea. Their tea is more tea forward than sugar forward (like literally most other boba places in the valley) so I really appreciated that. I had avoided coming to the Coachella valley for more than a week because I have a tea addiction but now I don't have to because I finally found a place that isn't an hour away from m parents place so I'm really happy they opened and I also hope they never change. I would rate both drinks a 10/10. read more

I enjoy collecting boba bottles, so I was happy to discover the CHAKAA Tea Shoppe in Rancho Mirage, which is located in The River at Rancho Mirage. Even though the sign claims it is open, the business seems gloomy on New Year's Eve. was fortunately open on New Year's Eve. With the unique bear cup, I ordered the Super Fruit Tea and Brown Sugar BoBo Fresh Milk with Mango Popping Boba. I was astonished to learn that just 2 drinks cost to about $31! All the decorations you need to decorate the bear cups are in a box. The server asks me if I'm Jackie Chan when my drinks are ready! He claims that I resemble him a lot. Should have said yes to him so I could possibly get a discount :)! Although the drinks taste great and have a lot of flavor, the pricing are too expensive. I have all of the unique cups from various locations; simply add $2 to the drink solely from those locations. Not like this shop where the drink is full price and the special cup is an additional $6.99. Will return the next time to try different drinks in standard cups only. read more
