I wish they had more of a vintage section but other than that this is a good place to find a deal on name brands!

i just shopped there yesterday- i am a regular customer. once i found a marc jacobs halter style sundress, 40 dollars. yesterday i spent 137 and got lovely items from labels like french connection, banana republic, abercrombie & fitch, georges marciano...one item was an amazing shirt/jacket- white cotton stripes sewn onto black mesh- it's heavenly! also a gorgeous pintuck front black cotton button down with french cuffs. a really funky/punky cool tierd miniskirt- so 80s! so vivienne westwood! and a striped sweater from delia's with a funny white skull in the weave. i am a photographer and fashion stylist- so i need to have a big collection of stuff. i LOVE shopping at buffalo because i can find the things i need to make photos special. read more

I first discovered 'the Exchange' while living in Las Vegas several years ago and instantly fell in love. On my first trip I walked out with an original vintage Versace sheer cocktail dress for $40!!! I felt sexy and beautiful as I 'rocked the frock' clubbin all night long. So when I moved to Philly 6 years ago and learned they had an Exchange I was stoked!! The selection is not as upscale or cool as the one in Vegas , but you still can go in with $50 and walk out with designer jeans, a couple shirts, and a hat. I would have gave this store 5 stars but there are a few reasons why I did not and I feel it ispimportant to discuss why. The Staff. Oh hipster staff...why can't you smile? Why do you try way too hard to be trendy with your style? Why won't you buy my clothes....you say that bell bottoms are not 'in the moment'???? But they are Miss 60?? 'Um well let me get my manager'....manager comes over looking like a 6th grade pocket protecter nerd ( I am guessing that's the look he is going for?? Plus some sleeve tatts cause, you know, your only cool If your a guy with sleeve tatts) and in the most snobbish, lispy voice, ....."um honey, were sorry, I don't think those jeans were EVER in style".......ahhhhhh. I had to just laugh, oh well ...right? So I do not recommend trying to sell here ( i've been trying to sell for a long time and they are ALWAYS picky...but according to who's or what standard? Those things that make you go hmmmmmm).. You are only going to be disappointed, shut down, and most likely insulted for not being in fashion....whatever that means. But, if you are tight with cash then you can come here and get a lot for your buck. Oh, make sure you are able to give yourself ,at least, an hour in there to shop. It is often crowded and sometimes you really have to search for clothes that fit or that you like. The separation of clothes by size and type is very helpful. I have seen the staff turnover a few times but the attitudes do not. Either they are a hipster, or trying so very hard to be. I know you make very little hourly and have to deal with multiple personalities daily with customers. I know that sorting and putting away, ringing up clothes is not the most inspirational or fun job. But you are working in Customer Service..and the most important person in the store is me the consumer. Please do not treat or talk to me like I am beneath you...I am college educated and make more in a week than you do in a month. Please do not eye me up and down from the moment I walk in then follow me around the store like I am going to steal...it is insulting. I will no longer attempt to sell here but Please have some respect for the people who do. Stop telling people that their clothes are not in 'style' or 'season' when your dressed like an extra in a bad 80's Molly Ringwald movie. And Please, please, please, please, please......SMILE! Life is not that bad. You could be one of the thousandth homless people right outside your shop who would do anything just to have your life. Ok...Buffalo Exchange here I come....practice those Customer Service skills....and next time I will give you 4-5 stars. Peace read more

The first time I went here a few years ago, I was selling and also looking. Sad to say that the taste in fashion regarding the buyers is really....strange. Not to mention their lack of knowledge when it comes to resale pricing. I had the woman tell me my ($40) unworn Threadless t-shirt wouldn't be of much use because "Like, they kind of only sell their shirts at like $5 or something." Do they even do any research?? Nice place! Small selection of item for men though! I didn't like how the racks of clothes were mixed in with the imaginary line for the checkout though! Service was friendly and they even walked around with free candy. Prices are a bit high though for certain items! I would go back here and see what they have next time if in the area! read more

i went to sell at Buffalo Exchange, long lines! Long wait time! And...they were picky about stuff. I particularly found the manager (female) to be extremely rude. She, along with the male manager started giggling on one of the handbags that I had. I think they are not in a position to judge people and make them feel bad when you have a business to run!! I would never go there again, not even to sell and definitely not to buy! The manager said that they don't clean the stuff that is brought in, which is just disgusting! read more

it's pretty good; i can usually find a few things for work here. i don't know that i would get in that long-ass line to exchange trash bags of my old clothes for a few bucks tho. but i'm glad people do that so that i can buy what they don't think is cool anymore, or what they're too fat for now, etc. read more

Dont waste your time this place overlooks top designer items & only cater to a certain style.

This Buffalo Exchange is terrible and has a very unprofessional staff. Some of the employees come off very rude and and their buyers are unexperienced. Due to the many occasions I've come into this store hoping to find treasures along with satisfactory customer service, I will no longer waste my time with Center City's Buffalo Exchange. i love this place,when i find the time and money to go searching. the selcetion is great ialways find more then 6 items i NEED. everything here is so cramed up against each other though but thats to be expected. i d however wish the staff where more helpful. the clothes are great but theres 3 mirriors in the whole store aside from the dressing room. with over 8 staff members there at one time Id think some one was able to give me decent if not friendly opionin on the fullfy bright orange tube top they have.( joking!!!) I love the store though and i spend way too much money but everything is 100% worth it!. read more

I've been to B.E. in San Francisco, Oakland, and Eugene, OR, and have always been able to find some nice items. When I saw B.E. exchange on Chestnut ST., I thought, "oh goody". Well, even though every time I'm in center city I check them out, I have yet to find anything worth purchasing. I wish they were a little more discriminate in what they consign. I have to agree with other posters about the quality of their clothes; they could do better. read more

After reading many of the reviews, I still decided to give them a shot. I was particularly apprehensive because I am not a "young urban hipster". Wow, that sounds old. Anyway, I'm in my early 40s but I think my style is a combo of classic + edge + trend. I brought four pieces; VERY gently used Uggs, Nine West booties, Madden Girl knee high boots and an Eddie Bauer jacket. They accepted everything but the jacket. The downside is the 30% cash or 50% credit. I should have done more homework or either turned and left with my stuff but laziness won out over possibly receiving a higher payout (at least for the Uggs, they were $230 original price) at another store like Once Worn in NoLibs -- I really didn't feel like lugging everything back home on SEPTA. I took the cash and left. On a side note, I was treated well and didn't get the feeling they were judging me. As a matter of fact, the buyer told me I had some really nice boots and if I had anymore boots/shoes bring them in. All in all, a decent 1st visit experience. read more

I love this Buffalo Exchange location! Once you are knowledgeable about the items they are looking for you can make decent money. I usually just do the store credit since you get more money. The staff was very friendly and professional. read more

Wow... I am really disappointed, reading some of the reviews of how customers are being treated at this store.I taught it was just me when I visited the store last year. The lady that was accepting used clothes that day said she is from NYC to the lady in front of me who only sold 1 regular black blouse and something else and she accepted hers with a smile and was super nice to her.. When my turn came she kind of looked at me with discussed face and was kind of cold and only accepted only one Michael Kors mens shirt very bright green color, I had also ladies pale mint color rain coat, short like cape style and it was French brand, she did not accepted it because she said it was yellow on the neck collar. It was only worn ones, and I worn it with a turtle neck and i had it sent to the cleaners. I think it was her excuse not to accept it. I was very mad how she treated the lady customer in front of me and how she treated me. I think she racially profiled me because I have an accent, what she did not know is that I work with the media in Philly and NYC and I deal with a lot of designer brands and charity organizations including celebrities and I do get a lot of free designer clothes. So she and the store lost on my content. Sometimes you just don't know who walks into your store. Don't judge a book by its cover........ I will never visit this store again.. read more

i had to hold my breath to try to sell. i had a chinese woman looked like she is being trained. she unfolded and folded my stuff.reject i could swear the training is to look at seller based on age weight race etc.. never mind refusal of service is against the law based on appearance. your looking at clothes not me.isnt that violation the law or civil rights act ?to add to the awful experience a woman was sitting peering over her shoulder watching her work like she is in training. horrible. i was informed by the web and in person they buy for fall now... i brought variety of stuff she rejected most for no good reason but picked a knit which the woman told her $5 meaning i make $1.50 laugh out loud ..they are inconsistent with buying and what they pay.. i saw a macys charter room mens shirt on the rack.. how is that unique?.. fraud advertising they buy nothing but they advertise they buy so people haul in lots of stuff to be rejected..no consideration.. read more

First of all, do NOT sell here if you actually want to make money. Second, except for one or two of the sales people as well as the managers, the staff can be very rude. Third, whether the store buys your stuff or how much they decide it is worth all depends upon who is working at the counter when you stroll inside and whether he/she personally likes it, with the exception of ceratin brands (you can sell the worst Free People clothes and they will give you a good price for them). I really think the staff needs better training on purchasing (in addition to social graces). Several staff members have no clue whatsoever about vintage items, for example, and the store is really losing out because there are buyers out there for vintage stuff, at least in my opinion. I would agree with the other reviews when it comes to the store being hit or miss as far as clothes. I have bought a few pieces of worthy priced clothes (last month, a super cheap brand new Miss Sixty rain coat) but other times I have gone in and walked out with nothing. Recently, they seem to be taking a "harder edge" on what type of jewelry they are willing to buy/sell which is disappointing. They seem to only want to buy/sell very, very large rings and long necklaces with big pendants. While there is nothing wrong with selling this type of jewelry, I don't understand why they are limiting themselves, especially because their accessory racks/cases are never full. Overall, I would say to stop in if you have the time but if you don't, just keep motoring-- you probably are not missing out on anything that great. read more

i shop here often, but i must say their selection you have to dig to find the good stuff. but even then the stuff would still show signs of wear. ive sold clothes here before and i don't understand their standards when it comes to selling clothes. ive brought in designer/nice clothes never worn items to sell such as a never worn banana republic top and they would pass on it. they would even pass on shirts that ive BOUGHT FROM THERE. so thats just really annoying. read more

First off, they open at 10 with a line of people waiting at the door to sell clothes, yet they only have one buyer til at least 1030, so the line keeps getting longer and longer. The buyers they do have take their sweet time too, even though they hardly buy anything and what they do buy they give you peanuts for at best. The employees are all think they know it all hipster douches. I have taken 3 bags of clothes there and they have bought nothing, and these were great quality, in season, clean name brand clothes. I took the same exact bags the same day to Plato's Closet and got 97 dollars cash. Do not waste your time here. They also wayyyyy overcharge for the clothes they buy, and the ones they do buy are all hipster garbage, ugly shirts, ugly sweaters and worn out clothes. Just take a look at what is on the racks, it makes you say "they bought this trash and not my stuff!!??". If I could give them zero stars, TRUST ME I WOULD. I visit the store today around 2:00pm to drop off some clothes for resale.I have to say I was not happy of the way the store workers there.I,mean,there were 2 people looking over my mostly jeans and apair of shorts and skirt.They turned down \"all \" my clothing,2 bags of it.I did not agree with the ,the type of jeans I had will not sale because they were flair bottoms,slightly,wisket,cargo pockets,washed or the worn look and faded look.I have seen these jeans in other stores that are selling with the skinny legs.For one thing I know about clothing for years into fashion of what is in style and what is not. Fashion of all types repeats and maybe a little up date to it. I even felt not welcome,and not people friendly at all.They should not be that strick on what you bring in.That`s the case I should had took them to the Salvation Army! At least there they are always happy to what you bring.People will appreciate the clothing more since there are people in need of clothes there.It was a big turn off.I looked at clothing while still standing at the counter and from a far and seen nothing impressive. this thrift store is either a hit or a miss no inbetween ill go and buy alot of things or leave with nothing.

originally my mom and i came to to sell her clothes to the thrift store across the street ( second time around) and my clothes to buffalo exchange, but you had to make an appointment across the street, so we hauled the stuff over to buffalo exchange. you have to wait about 10-15 minutes before they look at your stuff. when it was finally my turn I get this girl who has no idea what a name brand even is or even a sense of what is trendy or stylish. every five seconds she would have to ask the person next to her if something was good or not. she kept stressing that they weren't buying summer clothes anymore, so God forbid if something was purple or showed some below- the- knee skin, (even a dress) its an automatic no. The only good thing is they accepted some of my moms clothes ( jones new york, forever21, j.crew) Now onto the stuff they sell. back before buffalo exchange expanded and doubled their space, everything was pretty much reasonably priced, now its like 17 dollars for a top from marshalls. why not just pay 17 dollars and get it at marshalls for brand new?! This guy next to me at the register bought 3 shirts and a pair of jeans and it rung up to 90 dollars!!! why would you spend so much on used clothing?! at that point it would just be cheaper to buy brand new clothes at urban. read more

i've gotten some good things here but i question the buyers expertise, and find it very "interesting" to see who they take clothing from and to hear the reasons for them not taking certain items. i've heard them say "oh, we don't take sandals w/ toe prints" but then there are tons of smelly shoes in poor condition on their shelves. they claim to take high end, on trend items but have shoes that are not a current style from JustFab. i feel as though they discriminate w/ who they buy from, depending on who the buyer is. i was told that you can ask for another managers second opinion if you feel they should buy something which means everyone is not on the same page or trained the same way. having worked in the fashion industry in NY for many years, and sold to boutiques on Walnut Str in philly, i am aware of how to spot a quality garment/item, so i know what to bring when i'm going to sell. i have sold some things there and picked up a few good items but i see no consistency w/ what they claim to want in terms of items and what is actually on their floor. what i don't sell to them, i take to other boutiques w/ higher end inventory (bella/greene street) and have been able to sell w/ no problem so i'm not that put out, just annoyed that for all that wait time and poorly managed line, they will take a tacky, dirty shoe from online over a current style barely worn shoe from Anthropologie b/c of the person who brought it in. the one in NY, if its still there, was much better. read more
