MY brother ordered the Meaty Meaty - he doesnt like a lot of cheese so having a lot of toppings means less cheese. We ordered the Hot Italian. Pizzas came out in relative short order and I immediately noticed our pizza was wrong. I pointed out that we didnt have hot red peppers and basil but instead we had green peppers. I dont eat green peppers as they dont sit well with me. I mentioned to my husband and he also noted as did my brothers family that this was wrong. When the waiter eventually returned - we told him we had the wrong pizza. He indicated that he saw it looked different when he brought it out and perhaps the kitchen just subbed out the peppers. I stated That is fine to do - if you check with the consumer first as i dont eat nor like green peppers. And sure i can pick them off but the ratio of peppers to sausage was more than 2-1 and left gaping holes. Waiter left and soon a manager returned. She told me that they buy both red and green hot cherry peppers and thats what this was and left. Sigh. Waiter came back and said we would get 20% off bill and was All ok then. I didnt care at that point. There is no such thing as a hot green cherry pepper - except it is green before it turns red. We also didnt have the basil as the description stated. I was not impressed with the pizza at all - ans then particularly not impressed that they couldnt just be honest that they messed up. I understand mistakes - just own it! In receiving that generosity, I offered to treat him to lunch at this particular Chili's restaurant near my hotel at the Tanglewood Mall Roanoke. I wasn't feeling at the time and I knew Chili's was kind of pricey, but had delicious fare. My friend was hungry and I wasn't really at the time. We arrived here around 11:30am on a brisk Sunday morning driving up from Rocky Mount. The ambiance was as pleasant as I remember it to be. It was quiet and nice and away from the kitchen, where it is usually noisier than normal. We had booth seating with a window view and that was cool. The service was good, pleasant, and friendly. My friend and I spent about an hour here from start to finish. I basically ordered chocolate molten cake, since I loved these and is relatively inexpensively priced. It really hit the spot after finishing another 50km ultra marathon in Rocky Mount the day before and it was my reward for it. My friend decided to sample a sampler platter, where it looked pretty good and delicious. I also had a strawberry margarita with my chocolate molten cake just because it just made sense. It was a celebration of sorts and it just happened in this Chili's location in Roanoke, Virginia. I enjoyed these conversation and the overall time spent here. Too bad vacations have to end. It was a quick meal before my friend had to return the rental car and head to the airport himself. For the most part though, the meal was good, especially with the alcohol involved. I even got carded and being over 40+ years old. I guess I still look young or something. It was quiet on a Sunday since the NFL season was over after Ty Super Bowl. It can get loud but i was glad it was not. It is nice to have those restroom facilities to use on site as well. The restaurant itself was clean and had good air conditioning, even though it was mildly cool outside at the time (low 50's F). The strawberry margarita paired nicely with the chocolate molten cake that I ordered. It was smooth and definitely helped with the entire meal and conversation. My friend decided to have a 3 item simpler platter, which worked good for him. Everything was tasty and the service was good. At the end of the meal, we paid the lunch tab on the device on our table instead of having the server take the payment to a central pay terminal and do the transaction there. After hanging out and just enjoying Sunday morning in Roanoke while having lunch, we left and went our separate ways. For the most part though, it was a good meal with my friend. We both did the event in Rocky Mount the day before and coming to Chilis was a celebration of what the human body is capable of when we believe in ourselves. As far as parking goes, you have a generous helping of parking spots since it's attached to the Tanglewood Mall. If you are a fan of public transportation in Roanoke, bus route 55 will take you directly here from the 3rd street bus terminal In downtown Roanoke. And of course, there is Uber and Lyft to get you here as well. Best bet would be to get here early enough to secure your favorite parking spot and walk on over. And The Haven, in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Unique from the moment of its conception, this restaurant / bar is more than just a place where you can get a bite to eat and a drink to quench your thirst. It's a welcoming space where people can go to relax, connect, and enjoy good times with those who mean the most to them. From the moment I walked through the door, I felt welcomed. To dine I ordered a Side Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing to start off with and a Grilled Chicken Teriyaki with Fried Rice and Broccoli as my main entrée. The food was amazingly delicious. Two nice size, plumpy and juicy chicken breast cooked to perfection with an amazing fried rice and fresh broccoli. All the staff there handled the opening-days rush in winter weather wonderfully, to the last detail. One of their owners/managers graciously came by my table to say hi and introduce himself. He clearly understood that relationships is key to the success of a business. My friendly and efficient server, Kiesha, provided me with excellent customer service, checking on me at the appropriate times, making sure to refill my Cherry Coke naturally, without me having to ask, and to keep an eye on me, even during rush time when she was serving a large table with a family of four. And her recommendation for the Grand Finale dessert of the Funnel Cake Fries was outstanding. They were the best I've ever had, cooked and served just right with chocolate, strawberry, and caramel dipping sauces. The country fried steak was really good and had a nice crunchy batter on the outside while still being tender inside. My wife ordered the steak and shrimp with green beans. Her steak was cooked well, the shrimp had good seasoning, and she enjoyed her meal as well. One of our favorite surprises was the croissants they bring to the table. They were warm, sweet, buttery, and almost tasted like a dessert. We loved that the first ones were complimentary, and honestly, charging about a dollar each if you want more afterward isn't bad at all. They were good enough that I could see ordering extras. The service was also very good. Our food and drinks came out in a timely manner, and we never felt like we were waiting around for anything. Everything from sitting down to getting our food went smoothly. Overall, this was a great first experience with Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen.
