THE BEST PIZZA. My husband has been coming here for his entire life and introduced me to Buffos. The owner is amazing and genuinely loves this place and everyone that comes in. He's amazing with kids and just a great guy. The food is amazing we get a pepperoni pizza and I've also tried the chicken sandwich, chicken fingers, and pastas and it's all great. They also have trivia on Monday nights which draws out a big crowd and is really fun. They have an outdoor patio which is really nice also on a beautiful day and you can walk around and check out other spots in the area. I believe Buffos is 100% a staple it's the best. read more

A good quick lunch and very good offerings on the Highwood Illinois, Sheridan Road strip. A very coal large place with ample seating inside and out on their sidewalk dining patio. It seems to be an excellent venue for parties of large gatherings. The decor is newer, clean and the rooms spacious. They were surprisingly busy on a weekday as hot as it was. I imagine at night it gets pretty busy with the beers they have on tap. It would make an excellent game hangout. Calamari was our appetizer a standard bar/restaurant version but decent nonetheless. I opted for a cooling Chicken Caeser Salad which was large and fresh and crisp and filling. My friend went with the Italian Beef with peppers, he said was as good as it was large and a side salad also appeared very fresh and crisp. I can't comment on the restaurant service or ambiance because we order out for pickup. The order was ready when promised and accurately. (We got everything that we ordered) We both ordered burgers, along with sweet potato fries. Mine was a Beyond burger with all the fixings including cheese. I was surprised that it wasn't a slice of cheese but a cheese spread. The bun was especially good, and that's something coming from someone who normally rips off large chunks of bun to save on calories & carbs. My husband had a Teriyaki grilled chicken sandwich, and he says that their grilled chicken sandwiches are really good and this one was really good too. I visited Buffo's around 8 PM after work. The front staff were friendly, but our experience changed once our food arrived. When we asked for a spatula, the staff member rolled her eyes and dropped it off without a word. We later realized we hadn't ordered fries and placed that order separately, which seemed to frustrate the same staff member. She made comments about us in Spanish, assuming we wouldn't understand, and continued speaking negatively even while serving us. She also removed Parmesan and red pepper from the counter shortly after -- probably so we wouldn't use it. I understand everyone has long days, especially near closing, but this felt unprofessional and uncomfortable as customers. Hoping management can address this, because the initial service was great and the food was good. read more

I may have been to Buffo's once, long ago. We were in the mood for pizza, and we decided to give it another try. You order at the counter, they give you a number, and they bring your food to your table. There were two rooms and we sat in the back, where they have a few video games and old photos on the wall. We ordered a pizza with cauliflower crust, half order of fried mushrooms, buffalo wings and a chocolate chip cookie that we asked them to bring out once we finished our pizza. Signals got crossed because the cookie was brought out, warmed, as soon as we sat down. This is a Highwood institution, with old school vibes. The wings and fried mushrooms were ok. The crust on the pizza was in some parts gummy and chewy, and in some parts overcooked. I got a gummy piece, and the toppings all slid off. It's hard to do a cauliflower crust, but when it's done right, you almost can't tell. The toppings were generous but it was very difficult to eat the pizza. And the cookie that was brought out right away was no longer warm and it was a little undercooked, but the outside was dry. The restaurant was filled with families, sports teams, regulars. I'm sure they will continue to support Buffo's but I think I will go to my favorite old school retro pizza joint (IYKYN). read more

Decided to try Buffo's, and unfortunately for me, it's a one and done. From the moment we walked in, I was over it. When you first walk in there is a counter with multiple stations to order and a pick up for online/phone orders. No one was at the stations except for one lady who was on the phone. We stood around with no greeting for longer than it should have been. We finally walked over to the online counter and they said we could order there. We ordered wings (it should be stated they are breaded), mozzeralla sticks, fries, a 8" specialty pizza half and half, and a fish sandwich. We paid for our food and got a table number to sit. The food came out in a decent amount of time. They weren't too busy so the dining room had plenty of places to sit. They closed the back section of the restaurant as it was late evening. We got our food and that's where everything went downhill again. The wings were not specified that they were breaded. I didn't mind that but the person I was with does not like them. Their pizza did not do it for me. There was way too much sauce not enough cheese and for for both specialty halves it lacked flavor. The fish sandwich wasn't any better. I mean you could tell it was just a frozen patty but with that the outside was barely crispy and the inside was slimy. Apparently Buffos use to be the spot, wish I would have experienced it then because right now it's a no for me. read more

This place is NOT handicap accessible at all. The fact that it says that when you look at the restaurant on open table and yelp is ridiculous. I am in a wheelchair and there is no parking at all. I could potentially have gotten in there in my wheelchair if I went around to the other side of the restaurant. The main entrance is not accessible, it has a stair. Disappointing. read more

I know it is an institution. But the food and the seating is just fair. Had to say it. The seating is old and sparce. There is another meeting room in the back and there was a child's birthday party going on in it. Not a romantic place at all. In fact it was not appealing to eat a meal inside. Had pasta and it did not have flavor. There is better tasting options nearby. Once you order you sit at a table and they deliver your food. I think if they remodel the place, it really would help. Piping hot, out of the oven is the best way to enjoy their slices. Buttery and with their crispy crust, those first bites and grabbing for the next slice is where it's at. Speaking of their thin crust pizza. The bottom has a crunch to it, but the thickness is closer to some varieties of a (thinner) Chicago pan pizza. It's not quite as 'thin' or cracker thin, in that manner. Per reviews it's all about their thin or double decker pies. A thin pizza can take 15-20 minutes for preparation and bake time. The double decker can take up to 45 minutes. Buffo's has been a bookmark in my collection for over a decade. Finally got a chance to check them out the other day while visiting Highland Park. It's a very, short drive away. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to wait on a double decker so I opted for a specialty thin crust. The pizza zesto had spicy sausage, pepperoncinis, mozz and sauce. Best eaten when hot. Eating cold pizza, later that day was fine as well. But after it sat in the fridge a few days it wasn't good at all. The cheese does not taste like quality and the sauce was forgettable. I'm familiar with the brand. Friends and family that grew up in these parts are fond of them and that reflects in many of the nostalgia reviews. But, is it a pizza destination?? No,. A detail I didn't realize ordering by phone is that they have specials on food. Had I known about their carryout Halloween pizza special, that could have hit the spot and allowed me to order something else to try as well. My partner ordered 2 orders of wings from Buffo's and made sure to ask the woman on the phone if they were breaded and would be safe for someone who has an allergy to gluten. The woman ensured my partner that they are safe for someone who is gluten free (I also heard her say this over the phone). When we opened the boxes, they were clearly coated with something and not gluten free. My partner called the restaurant to ask if they can remake the wings so they are gluten free or if we could get a refund. The woman on the phone was incredibly rude and handed the phone to someone else who was extremely dismissive and crude, saying they would not give us a refund and then hung up on us. We called back and asked to speak with the manager who refused to take responsibility for his staff and mistake and told us that they would make us other food, but it had to equal to the price of the wings and if it was less than, they would not provide us with the difference. When we walked in, the front staff were overly bad-mannered, impolite, and callous. I am very aware that restaurants cannot promise 100% gluten free and this is not the problem. The staff seem to be so unaware of their ingredients and are willing to gaslight their customers into thinking they are in the wrong, when their staff made a mistake. This could have been easily resolved, instead, the restaurant tried to take advantage of us. We will not be going back due to the disgusting customer service and their complete dismissal of food allergies and sensitivities. read more

This place is amazing. I've loved this place for years there French fries there so big and potatoy (I know that potatoy is not a real word) and fluffy and there burgers oh my God there burgers. Are so delicious always juicy and cooked to perfection. My favorite thing is there hot sauce each and every flavor is amazing and spicy and they go so well with there French fries. Went last night ! I forgot to take a pic of our food! I got a personal pizza beef and green peppers ! It was tasty! Loved the cheese and beef! It made me want to get a beef sandwich! If I'm in town and I want pizza, there is no question where I go. If I want a char burger with the works, this is where I come. If I want a beer and cheese fries, this is the stop. Buffo's is a staple in Highwood and the North Shore and if you haven't been, then you are truly missing out. There is a huge selection of pizzas and I mean huge. Want an Italian beef or sausage? It's here. The burgers are char broiled and taste the same as I remember since I was a kid. There's also a great selection of chicken sandwiches. GREAT pizza, GREAT! Thin, crispy crust. Pizza Zesto - spicy sausage, pepperoccinis and mozzarella. Tangy, cheesy and GREAT. This resto is open and serving during these COVID times. You go inside and get/pay for beers. They'll bring your pizza out, but the patio is basically self-serve as far as napkins, leftover containers and what not. For me, this is FINE. A pretty awesome looking Old School pizza place in downtown highwood. The only bad thing about this is there was a lot of kids running around and to the various video and claw games but aside from that this is a great pizza place the pizza sausage and pepperoni were excellent and this pizza business has many workers and is a staple of the community I'm guessing the overall layouts looks like a classic Pizza Joint and I reckon generations of families have come here on more than one occasion to enjoy parties and so forth. read more

Generally speaking, happy staff reflects the quality of food you'll be receiving. And as soon as you walk through the door, you're greeted with stoic faces wondering if lunch service is over yet. For people who haven't been there, like this tourist here - you order in the front and they give you a table number so you would sit where you like. They don't however tell you where to get water, or that the extra plates and seasoning is self serve. I ordered an Italian beef thin crust pizza. While waiting, I observed a few things. Some local law enforcement and Army people came by, a few tourists and locals alike, and some kids on a Sunday afternoon. Everybody ordered the fries - must've been a thing. The individual pie was, okay. Pretty large so you won't leave hungry. It's hard to pin point why but the Italian beef would have been better in a sandwich (which they have). This is the it restaurant because it has all of the usual sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs and of course their pizza and pasta options. The kids meals are $4.25 generally comes with fries (hamburger, hotdog, chicken tenders, mac n cheese, grilled cheese are some of the options). All burgers are flame grilled, and the kids size buger was honestly large enough to be for a light earing adult. Ita served on good bun that holds up. Had it with the works. The wait for a thin crust pizza was 30mins so we opted for something faster ie burger, pasta and fried mushrooms. All were standard looking. Fettuccine Alfredo lacked any defined flavor had to add parmasean cheese in abundance to make it somewhat flavorful. Garlic bread was forgettable. Burger was thin, but was good with all the toppings that were added. Napkins and utensils are by the cash registers so help yourself to that, as there is nothing at the tables. I'd come back next time for pizza which did look yummy with a crispy thin. (probably order right when we park our car to eliminate some of the wait time). Should be plenty of seating for any family. If I could give a 0 I would if I could. If you're trying to go to the trivia night for the first time it's not even worth it they only prioritize their regulars. I had a group of 6 people and literally the owner didn't want to put two available tables together to allow for my group to have a table along with the fact that I called ahead of time to see how early I should be 6:30 was what I was told I arrived at 6:20pm. The owner basically told me that he didn't have time to service new customers. I've never felt so disrespected in my life and I've never gotten so upset at a restaurant manager.
