The ratio of cheese to other ingredients is a bit better here than some other pizza places nearby but I overall found the preparation to be a bit plain for me. The food didn't have any extra herbs or spices to really distinguish it from other places nearby that serve pizza or pasta in a similar style. The service was quite fast however and it wasn't much of a hassle to get in and out quickly from the spot, though it can be slightly challenging to find the spot if you're not familiar with the area. read more

Haven't ordered from Mugs in a couple years. Back then the Chicken Parmesan was the best! Not anymore! I put my fork into chicken, tried to cut it, but the piece wouldn't cut. I pulled it up and a NAKED rubbery piece of chicken came up. NO breading at all. Was told when I called, "it must have melted off"...! Never have I ever heard of such a thing! I am very unhappy with the service on Superbowl night! We ordered our pizza with mugs around 3:00 pm and let them know we would be picking it up at 4:40. Plenty of time to get it home before the game. We picked up another order minutes before from Chillis. My husband went in to Mugs and waited 45 minutes along with about 14 other people. No one was coming out with pizza except the delivery people. I went in and asked my husband what was wrong? They had all paid the cashier and yet no one was getting their pizza. I told my husband to ask for his money back and returned to the car. I called Mugs and a machine said they were closed! After having said that aloud, others agreed they all wanted their money back. The game had started 15 minutes ago and we were all going home without our pizza. There were no apologies from Mugs and they told us if we wanted to wait, it would be another 40 minutes. We didn't even get a chance to eat or order food from the local Buffalo Grove Illinois location. Was tired today after a really long and stressful workday. Once home at 930P, I looked for a local pizza place for comfort food dinner. Their website says "Open Everyday 3 PM to 3 AM." I was thrilled! I completed my order online and was ready to place my order, and the website said "We're no longer taking orders today" or something similar to that. Just infuriating. Well that was 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I went to some other place that promptly took our order and delivered. While waiting for that delivery, I was still so ticked off I called the same Buffalo Grove location instead. My "important call" kept hearing the same &*($% looped recording that they were very busy taking orders for everyone else but us, apparently. It's now two+ hours later and I'm still angry. I discovered no "contact us" email address readily available. Their loss, since I'm now typing with fingers fully loaded with froth and frustration that others can now experience instead of management. The wife and I don't usually order pizza but we had a weak moment. Mugs was the local choice because we don't eat pork in the house and they offer ground beef as a topping. It's a decent substitute for me. I really like thin crust and we didn't want to drive to far. Mugs delivered. The pizza was to have been thin but the crust and bottom seemed fairly thick as far as thin goes. The sauce was tasty. Cheese was plentiful. The medium was plenty for two of us and we had about 4 squares left over. Try the Italian beef and spicy gardinera on it for a real change of pace. read more

Ordered Italian beef combo, 1/2 lb cheeseburger, wings, 2 slices of pepperoni pizzas and chicken tenders for the kids. Everything was pretty good. Except the chicken tenders were a little burnt. Italian beef combo came with gravy upon request which was really good, the burger was big and satisfying, you can't find that price anywhere else. Almost couldnt find the 0.75cent bacon in the cheeseburger though, It was a nice surprise in the middle of our meal. Wings were crispy, came with ranch. I gave this place a try because I'm new to the neighborhood and wanted to know all my options. Location: A little strange but no big deal. One of those places where the back of the restaurant faces the street, and you have to dip down a side street to get around to the front of the restaurant and parking lot. Staff: Seemed ok. Looked like a father/daughter team were up at the counter, all seemed nice and professional. Delivery men lounged in the parking lot waiting for work. By the looks of them, I see why there are so many delivery complaints on yelp for this place. Hot wings - Flavorful breading, but not hot. Tastes similar to Jewel "wing zings" except that the Jewel "wing zings" are better. Breaded mushrooms: Pretty good. Standard quality, comparable to what you'd get at any sports bar/greasy spoon. Sauce was just ranch dressing, but good enough. Pizza: reminded me of the pizza you get served at kid's birthday parties. This is not exactly a compliment. Serviceable, even tasty depending on whether or not I had drinks before reheating it. Long story short, this is the place you call at 1 am because everything else in the area is closed. Not that there's anything wrong with that. In my opinion the suburbs could use a few more questionable late night offerings. That said, be aware of what you're getting yourself into. Not a good start from a customer service point of view. I ordered over $50.00 of food. The ribs were the most disappointing of all. I order a full slab. The top and showing half slab of a decent quality though the second half had to come from leftovers of a half slab order and was fatty, small and uneatable. I did however like the taste of the sauce. I thought I would give them a second chance and called the next day to order dinner again. I have been in Buffalo Grove over 20 years and spend $1,000 to as much as $1,500 a month just on takeout food. (Yes busy and lazy at times). When I called to order, I started explaining my issue with the ribs and was transferred to the manager. After explaining the poor quality of the ribs and that I was giving them a second chance and that I order out a real lot (Dengeos, Wildfire, Real Urban, Lou's(love them all), and most every local establishment I was expecting a new restaurant would offer at least the same if not even more customer service than the others. Whenever I had issues with my order at the four above mentioned they would always offer to send new food ASAP, credit me for my next order and have even sent me a complete new order with all food fresh and warm! I got nothing but - oh well I will check that out in the future, instead of - oh what are you ordering tonight and let me send you a half slab to make up for your bad experience last night, but nope, nothing to show concern or to make up for bad quality of food. In my opinion, a few more reviews like this and getting steam here in Buffalo Grove may not happen. I did notice at your other locations bad reviews dealing with customer service and phone clerks also. I did however take the time to call the Arlington Heights location and asked for the name and number of the owners and was told they could not do that but that one of the owners were coming in that night and they would give my message and phone number to the owner. I work part time at a nearby hotel. One night I went to work and had a real taste for fried shrimp, so I checked the Mug's menu and decided to order it. Food was delivered promptly, but overall it was nothing special. I guess there's a downside to ordering seafood from a pizza place - but if that's the case, they shouldn't offer it. One more thing of note - most pizza places in the area go out of their way to offer hotel staff - and sometimes guests too - a decent deal (many restaurants do as well) - most likely because hotels and their staff are in a position to refer business to them. Mug's doesn't do that however - in fact, there was a delivery charge with my shrimp order and it was noted that the money from the charge does not go to the driver (in other words, customers should tip the driver too). So I can pay full price for a meal at Mug's plus delivery plus tip OR I can pay a discounted price, typically no delivery charge but usually a very decent tip to the driver from another establishment.
