Be prepared for a wait. It's a small shop. We went around 11am on a Sunday and waited in line for 30 mins and 25 mins to get our food. I don't mind the wait when it's a brand new restaurant. They are working out the kinks. I got the Charleston and my husband got the Nashville hot. I loved the biscuit. It had a great soft texture but hard enough to not fall apart. It's also pretty massive. I loved the pimento cheese (it's definitely homemade), tomato and fig jam combo. I think it could use another topping. The tomato wasn't charred like described on the menu, but I liked it that way. My husband liked the chicken a lot. They use chicken thighs which is much juicer! It had a lot of crispness to it and a decent amount of meat. I thought it had a kick. My husband it wasn't hot, but he has no issues with heat. So disregard him :) We also got the potato salad and Appalachian cider beans. The potato salad was pretty generic, and honestly not that great. The potatoes seemed a bit raw still. The beans were quite honestly not good. They had a very odd flavor, not even a cider flavor and undercooked as well. Also very overpriced for the portions you get. I do think for the biscuit "sandwich" itself it's a bit overpriced. I think a small side should come with it, personally. We would go back though. Buford's has become our local favorite--truly spectacular biscuits, chicken, and sides! Everything is fresh and tasty, with (very) generous portions. One thing we especially appreciate is the care with which the team prepares its gluten-free options (including a surprisingly good cathead biscuit). It's not easy to convince friends with serious gluten sensitivities to eat at a biscuit restaurant, but the staff explained how they prepare everything separately and everyone was happy with their meal (and the lack of any reaction afterward). The place gets very busy, so I recommend ordering ahead. read more

Phenomenal food, and huge portions! Don't expect to get through this in one sitting, I had The Cure and had to take the top half of the biscuit off to finish it. Great & fast service as well, I ordered for pickup and when I showed up my order was ready and waiting to go, and packaged perfectly as well. (They package everything separately so you put it together when you get home and nothing is too soggy, etc.) My girlfriend had the biscuits and gravy and the sausage gravy had just the right amount of pepper, plus you could have feed a third world country with the amount and size of the biscuits included. I took my family there Saturday Just after noon. Unable to serve food after waiting for 30 mins. Didn't even start our order. Didn't inform us of the delay and wait time until I asked about the order status. They said they are busy fulfilling mobile orders. Manager was apologetic, provided a refund and even offered gift cards (which I refused). 1 star is for not charging us for diet coke and iced tea while we were waiting. Good luck to the business. This place is amazing! We came for dinner and everything was so good, the chicken was super juicy and flavorful and the biscuits are the BEST biscuits I've ever had! Especially with some of the maple butter, YUM! My boyfriend had the sausage gravy and he said it was as good as, if not better than, what he had growing up in the south! A good friend and I took a chance and went here for biscuits. The one I bought was the Nashville Hot (I think). There was 2 pieces of chicken and the biscuit was the most perfectly cooked biscuit I've ever had. Soft on the inside and slightly brown on the outside and it was huge. It tasted better than I could have imagined and paired well with their lemonade. The feel of this establishment was warm and welcoming and we didn't wait long for our food. We arrived a few minutes before closing and our orders were still taken and packaged to go and they still offered a table for us to sit and eat our food. Man, all these negative reviews are wildly nitpicky. Maybe I should go around to every cheesesteak joint and post "IT'S NOT HOW THEY DO IT IN SOUTH PHILLY". It's been a while since Buford's took over the old Senor Ramon's place (and Puccios before that...) but it's one of the only nods to "the South" we have in downtown Leesburg. I've had the biscuit + gravy and the Charleston, both extremely solid options. I've never had an issue with the service, but that probably brings me to the 4 instead of 5 stars. It's a weirdly laid out building. I would imagine that service to the outside/back and even inside is tough to do. It's always been a weirdly laid out building, so I don't really know what can be done there. And also, plan on leftovers. The biscuits are the size of a small baby's head. read more

I got the Nashville hot chicken biscuit, and while it was absolutely incredible in its own right because of its uniqueness and hearty, monstrous size biscuit, I think I had a little bit different expectations for the Nashville hot part. There wasn't really enough on it for me to get the distinct flavor I was hoping for, BUT-- I went inside and asked for a side of honey, and that gave it a good amount of the extra taste I was hoping for. My wife and I drove up from DC to check Buford's out because I love fried chicken biscuits. We ordered the Classic Chicken Biscuit, the Nashville Hot Chicken, and the Virginian (country ham). Being from Nashville, I had high expectations going in for the crispy friedness of the chicken and to discover their take on "Nashville" hot. Unfortunately, although the biscuits were very good, neither sandwich hit the mark. The outside of the fried chicken wasn't crispy. The hot heat you'd expect from a hot chicken sandwich wasn't present. Neither had much taste, except for a pickle on the Nashville Hot. The biscuit is large, so most of what you get flavor-wise is that. Was pretty disappointed. However, the Virginian was great. Salty country ham, cheddar, and honey butter. We savored this one for sure. Knowing one out of three sandwiches was good, and that the rest of their menu could be amazing, I would still recommend giving Buford's a shot. The first thing that struck me about Buford's was its warm and inviting atmosphere. Situated in a historic building in downtown Leesburg, the restaurant screams both Parisian coffee shop and southern hole in the wall. Before this place, Leesburg was missing a legit breakfast spot. For weeks after they opened there were lines out the door. My wife and I finally got in on a cold day and tried the gravy sampler...it was amazing. The biscuit was dense and fluffy at the same time...no idea how that's possible. The flavor was like a warm hug on a fall morning. The gravy was seasoned so well and it was the right amount of richness. There is something about a restaurant that only makes a certain amount of food a day and if it sells out then you have to wait till the next day. I don't hate it. Had their Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and it was magnificent! I have had Prince's, supposedly the originator of this now world-famous fried chicken sandwich, but it's been years so can't remember enough to compare the two. Judging Buford's interpretation without comparing, though, I can say it's one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've had in recent memory. The outer crust is *chef's kiss* perfect, and the flesh is tender and juicy. They got everything right. The biscuit also left nothing to be desired and was buttery, had the right amount of salt and richness. I also liked the purple cabbage slaw on top. I did takeout, but while waiting noted that the restaurant was more spacious than it appeared from outside (a few outdoor tables are available). and there is a roomy enough eating section indoors (technically two rooms). The decor is cute--assorted size cast iron skillets adorning one wall. The sandwich after tax and tip is closer to $20, but I think it's totally worth it. read more

This place was a charming addition to our Sunday morning passing through Leesburg. If I have one piece of advice, it's to order ahead! When we got there around 11am there was a 35 minute wait and the people just kept coming. The restaurant is a converted historic row house and is cute inside with two small seating areas and a small front porch. I believe there is also more seating out back. My partner and I ordered the hush puppies, a catshead biscuit with the gravy flight, and the Cure fried chicken sandwich. I was excited to try the three gravies but the clear winner was the classic sausage gravy. It had the most flavor and umami. After that ranks the mushroom gravy, although it was too salty for my taste. Last comes the chipped beef gravy, which honestly didn't have that much flavor. The biscuit had a great texture, crisp on the outside and dense and soft on the inside. One thing that surprised me was the hint of lemon, almost like a pound cake flavor. Not sure I'm a huge fan of that, but it was still good. Although I was delighted by the novelty of a flight of gravy with my biscuit, if I went back again for that dish I would just get the classic sausage gravy. That being said, the Cure sandwich blew the biscuit and gravy out of the water-- but fried chicken is magical so that's not a big surprise. I loved everything about that sandwich and wish I had ordered it myself. The hush puppies were hot and came with a very sweet maple sugar butter. I'm sure a lot of people like that, but I'm more of a savory person and would have liked them with an herby butter (or even gravy!). But that's just my taste. All in all, it was a very cute place with good food. I'm not sure if I would return as an out-of-towner just because of the wait. It can kind of throw your day off if you've still got a lot of driving to do. But I encourage others to give it a shot... And get the Cure! read more

I've stopped in a few times now, and had the Nashville hot chicken. Both times were equally just ok- I thought it lacked seasoning and could have been hotter or with more sauce. Also was pretty greasy. The slaw was equally bland.. I'm not from the south but I do love me some biscuits, and they were pretty great. I'm sure other items on the menu are good but have not yet tried them, hopefully that Nashville sandy gets better because every town needs a great chicken spot. read more

First time here and was very pleased. The sandwiches were very big and full of flavor. I'm particular about "bread to protein" proportions. With the size of the biscuits I saw coming in I was skeptical but they did not disappoint. My hot chicken San which had two boneless/skinless chicken thighs that were cooked to perfection. My wife had the krabby mushroom sandwich. As a vegetarian she was very pleased but confused as to why they served it with bacon??? I didn't mind because it ate it and it was tasty and very crispy. Only complaint is that our discounts were about 5-10 minutes from being cooked perfectly. They were doughy in the idle which took away from the overall enjoyment. Read about this little gem on eater and had to check it out when we had a mini staycation in leesburg. We came a little after opening time on a weekend and the place was already quite busy! We got the Nashville hot chicken and the classic bufords biscuit. Both were excellent but I did have a slight preference for the Nashville hot because of that extra kick of flavor. The biscuits are hefty, and perfectly fluffy, crispy and flaky where you'd want it. The fried chicken is also expertly cooked to a perfect crispness on the outside, deliciously moist on the inside. I liked the compliment of the mustardy sauce on the Buford biscuit to cut the heaviness. PS they do have gluten free options - which I may have tried but I wanted to get the "real" experience - but useful for a future date of whenever I'm actually ready to commit to a GF lifestyle. read more

Another, unfortunately, disappointing outing at Buford's. We want to like this place so much, but the service/operations are still (after ~2 years) a major gap. We waited for about 20-25 minutes for 3 biscuits before I went inside to check on our order. After waiting for someone to address me at the counter, I finally asked about our orders. I was met with annoyance by the employees who said it would be another 5 minutes (waiting on chicken). 10 minutes later (30+ minutes total), our food began to be brought out piecemeal. Why couldn't this have been done to start with? Why couldn't we have been told up front that chicken would take 30 minutes to prepare? The food is actually good, the prices are a bit high (but portions are large) - but the service has us limiting our visits here to once a year at most. As an aside - not sure how they're staying in business with only 23 hours of operation per week. Perhaps through catering, but if you plan to visit - make sure you factor in plenty of time to receive your food. read more
