The moment you walk in, the retro 1950s diner ambience immediately transports you back to classic Americana dessert culture. They've apparently been serving Sacramento for over 37 years! - Hot Fudge Sundae -- made with Gunther's vanilla & chocolate ice cream, topped with whipped cream, pralines, and a candied cherry; beautifully presented with warm hot fudge drizzled all over - Lemon Raspberry Cake -- moist sponge cake layered with lemon, raspberry, and whipped cream; balanced sweetness with buttercream-coated sides The red booth seating and vintage Americana decor really complete the nostalgic vibe. Service was friendly and quick, and the overall ambience was cozy, retro, and diner-themed. Rick's Dessert Diner definitely feels one-of-a-kind, I'll have to stop by again next time I'm passing through Sacramento.

" He was making small talk with her and he asked her if we were her family. She asked him which one he thought was her "PARENT." He replied that he thought I was her grandmother. I'm 54 years old and have a 30-year-old daughter and my niece is 25. I don't even know how that would be possible. I was right next to them sitting at a table with my brother so of course I heard, and I got up and I said what's up with this grandma stuff, and he said that he answered her question and told her that he thought I was her grandmother. Honestly, I felt completely insulted like you're not supposed to say things like that to your customers or even about your customers. I felt myself getting ready to go completely off on him, so I walked away and went to sit back down. He had the audacity to tell my niece some people can't handle the truth. It's so baffling to me that a manager would say something like that. I know employees sometimes say inappropriate things, but he should know better!! This was supposed to be a nice family outing and he ruined my night. Luckily I have confidence in myself and his comment didn't give me a complex or make me like I look old. It was also disappointing because I went in there specifically to get an eclair, which is normally a decent size. For some reason, it was the half of the size and the same price.

If I remember, they had lines out the door during that era. Now, it's still a quaint little shop and serves mainly ice cream and a few goodies. We went here after eating next door at Saigon Oi. Inside is really small and has maybe one area you can sit in. They do have a decent selection of ice cream and it looks good. Like most other ice cream places, you can choose your flavors and toppings and eat it in a cup or cone. Customer service was great. The person serving us was really friendly and was great with my niece and nephew. The owner rung us up and was really friendly as well. I did not eat the ice cream, but the service and the way they looked makes me think it is decent ice cream. Great place overall and I may come back to try this if I go to Me's kitchen again.

This parlor is apparently known for ice cream puffs (which none of us tried to be fair) . I believe it's a slightly warm donut with ice cream in the middle and what they are named after... The parlor had limited ice cream flavors (nothing traditional that I would usually go for - or settle for s simple as strawberry by itself) and while a couple flavors sounded interesting, they missed the mark for me. I ended up with the Thai tea and vanilla and the Thai tea flavor was extremely light. My son liked his strawberry cheesecake milkshake. My friend liked her pina colada ice cream scoop with coconut shred topping. The others seemed to like their one scoop ice creams but we all took time to decide. The establishment is small. A couple of tiny tables inside and a bench seating inside. There are also a couple of tables and a bench seating outside. The line started forming at 8:30 with about 5 people behind us and 2 workers behind the counter so we didn't have time to get pictures without lots of people on the background. :(

All of their ice creams are coconut milk based instead and the three I tasted were SO.DAMN.GOOD. My man ordered the salted caramel and it was delicious, but not what I was in the mood for that night. I was on the fence between the blueberry cheesecake and the peach cobbler. I really wanted a scoop of both, but I just wasn't that hungry. I decided on the peach cobbler, and I'm still dreaming about it. The sweet peaches, the essence of cream, and that buttery slightly salty crust. From the street front this place doesn't look like much but when you go in, there are a couple tables and a counter you can eat at and then there is a massive kitchen in the back. There is a good variety of flavors including a dairy-free vanilla that might be some of the best vanilla frozen yogurt I've ever had. My husband is very lactose intolerant and typically yogurt shops only offer a sorbet as a dairy free option, so he can actually get a flavor he likes. There is also a really good assortment of toppings. There are cookies, candies like Reese's, fruit, nuts, and my favorites, which are mochi and jelly. The only con is the parking situation. We live in the area so we just walk, but we used to live a couple of blocks over and parking is pretty awful. This is a very busy area where a lot of families visit to go to restaurants, so not only is it hard to find parking, but the drivers are a little wild because they're unsure of where they're going. If you can, I recommend parking a few blocks away and walking over. Once you're there, the location is great! There are really great places to eat and drink and shop. I got a Double Shackburger (no cheese) and a single hamburger (as a side because, why not?). For the hamburger patty, I also had it cooked well done. I also came with a party of 4 on a busy Sunday. The tables available were clean for the most part, just had to wipe the table 1 more time (had a crumb or 2). The food came fairly quick, as quick as other locations I've been to in the state. The buns were amazing as always! The favor came through, and honestly, I ate my first burger too quick with how good it was. The Hamburger was also very good for how plain it was (I ordered it that way)! Ordering the patty well done also gave it an extra crisp, however, sacrifices some juiciness, but still wasn't dry. Overall, if it wasn't for having to wipe the table a bit more prior to getting my food, this place would've been 5/5 for me!

Earlier this year, I tried their Korean BBQ Burger in New York and absolutely loved it! Recently, I tried their Avocado Bacon Burger, and it did not disappoint.
