Our 35 year old roof started leaking during the rains in 2024. Build Brothers came out and tarped the leaks. We decided to combine a reroof and solar power installation and got several quotes from different companies. The quotes were similar, and based on our dealings with Byron and Colton, we chose Build Brothers for the project. The roof project was done quickly, and we have had no issues and are happy with the work. Once the roof was finished, they put up the solar panels. Once they were done, it took about another month before the final approvals were received and the solar system could be turned on. There was one issue discovered, but Build Brother's came right back and made it right. Recently, one of the micro inverters failed, and one of the panels was not producing. Their technician came out, and had it replaced in less than an hour. We are very satisfied with the work, and do recommend them. read more

We recently hired Build Brothers for our solar and roofing project, and the experience was solid from start to finish. Evan, our service advisor, was especially great to work with. He was professional, attentive, and respectful of both our concerns and our budget. He even went the extra mile by personally taking a sample of the shingle to our HOA to secure approval before the install that was moved up. Because we were trying to complete everything before the soon expiring tax credit, the timeline really mattered to us. The Build Brothers team was fast, responsive, and even moved our install up by several weeks, which we truly appreciated. The final result looks clean and well done, and everyone on the roofing and solar crews carried themselves professionally. We did experience a couple of small glitches such as receiving a plug installation for the charger when we had paid for it to be hardwired for safety reasons, and the team initially bringing a regular charger instead of the universal one we purchased. Given how many customers they are trying to help before the tax rebate ends, we understood how these hiccups could happen. What mattered most is that they handled both issues quickly and with no hassle. Overall, we are genuinely glad we chose Build Brothers. Let me break down my journey with Build Brothers and our solar panel escapade that began in 2015. Imagine this: August 2015, we're settling into our new home, eager to embrace solar power. After sifting through bids, we opted for Solar Universe/REPower, led by Ian and Byron. They pitched these impressive LG280 watt panels with Enphase's M250 micro inverters, along with a promise of a "brand new composite roof" that would seamlessly blend with our tile roof. I was thrilled enough to even pen a glowing review on Yelp. Fast forward four years, a fierce "El Niño" storm rolls in, causing chaos. We called in Jason Christ from SDS/Roofing/REPower/Solar Universe, assuming it's all under one roof. Jason sorted our roof, and we were pleased enough to update our review with props to the team. We even had him add four extra panels, thinking it's all good vibes between the companies. Then, in 2022, our system starts acting up. I reached out to Byron, only to find out our Enphase Envoy system is outdated, and I missed the boat on upgrading. Now, fast forward to this year, 2024, we get an Electric Vehicle and decide to take a closer look at our production numbers. Cue the shock when we see our bill has skyrocketed. I tried every avenue to contact Build Brothers, but it felt like shouting into the void. When I finally got Byron on the line, it was all silence, leaving me hanging. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I bit the bullet and shelled out over $10k to fix the mess. And here's the kicker: turns out our panels were on the fritz, barely producing any power. No assistance from Build Brothers, nothing. I even reached out, hoping for a shred of understanding, but Ian's excuse about being too swamped was like a punch in the gut. Seriously, I thought they'd have my back, but it was like I didn't even matter. Their excuse? They are saying that Jason's company was an outside company and his work on our roof voided Build Brother's warranty. Pretty sad that when I posted a review about Jason's work, Byron responded to the review and thanked me for my kind words. But when I needed help with a warranty claim, Jason's company is now being treated as if he was an outside company at the time. Look it up, the timeline says it all. By the way, I made an attempt to contact Jason's company, it turns out that Jason died of cancer last year. So here's the bottom line, if you're considering Build Brothers for your solar needs, think long and hard. Trust me, I learned the hard way. And it's mind-boggling to think they were too busy to even give me the time of day, especially when they raked in $8 million in contracts last year(Ian's words not mine). Thats .000375 of a percent if you calculate what I had asked for with the labor costs ($3k) vs their $8million contracts last year. ‍All I was asking for was help with my labor costs I paid towards Jamar Electric, an excellent company who I might add. read more

Took my deposit and promised performance on a small rental property and no contact for weeks until we had to call and demand deposit back. Now have a LARGE issue on a personal home . Where the money has been paid and they're blaming us the client . Very very poor customer service and from what I can see terrible work . A situation occurred on my Solar panels were not working, so I called the company and got hold of the receptionist Gloria and she sent out a notice for IAN and Byron. Within hours Ian responded back me and said that they will be sending a technician John to see what was going on with the panels. John arrive the next day and was reviewing all the panels and fix the problem, all panels are working within an hour or less. I am so very fortunate that I decided to go with build Brothers solar panels for my job. Kudos to Gloria, IAN, Byron and John. I'm in the minority here since we didn't have a great experience. We had a roof leak and of the 2 companies that we got quotes from, we selected Build Brothers based on their stellar reviews despite them costing a bit more. I now notice that the reviews are primarily for large jobs, so perhaps that's what they excel at. This review is for a smaller job. In sum, our roof ended up not needing the entire scope of work quoted on in the original estimate. The team lead reported such to my husband when the job was completed less than 2 hours later. When we were still billed the full amount of $2,500 we asked for an updated bill to reflect the actual work done. When we received the corrected bill, we asked for an itemized invoice since the amount didn't seem fair to us. The parts were only $374, so labor and fees were $1626 for less than 2 hours of work, including the initial time for the estimate ($300). Before writing this review my husband attempted to reason with the company, but the owner maintained, "We're aware that we're not the cheapest roofers out there, but we believe we are the best and we provide a tremendous value by doing things right the first time, so you can get back to your life." I am hopeful that the job was in fact done right, but I do not believe what we were charged was even remotely fair for the work completed. read more

We selected Build Brothers for a re-roof project because they have a solar division and could remove and reinstall our solar system. On December 1st their crew worked very fast to remove the solar panels & tile, replace lots of deteriorated wood and re-set the tile. They finished the roof project in two days. It is now January 23, over 7 weeks later and my $20,000 solar panels remain on the ground. I know rainy days impact their work schedule. I did pay the BB roof bill for $23,263 by Dec. 5. Our Electricity costs have exploded which they offered to help pay. And we continue waiting for completion as contracted. A very frustrating situation. Plus our electric outlets in the garage which they used are not working. I paid an electrician $350 to fix it, but he couldn't and said we need to wire a new circuit to the outlets from the panel. After 60 years standing with 3 layers of roof asphalt shingles placed,( the most recent layer, done approximately 30 + years ago by my Dad) it was time to get it replaced. I'd like to tell you about my honest experience with Build brothers. To start I met with Ian, the owner of the company to discuss replacing my windows. He was very informative about the models and the differences between the price and value of each brand. I had previously consulted with a different company about getting a very high-end UV ray-blocking glass. I explained to Ian that I was very much in love with that product. Once he explained to me the differences between the glass and the cost benefits, I was shocked. The other company really increased the price over a small difference. Have you ever heard of a contractor recommending a less expensive alternative? Well, I felt like I was in good hands! Now when the installers came to install my windows they were professional, respectful of my space, and very knowledgeable. They had to complete my project in a few days and I couldn't be happier. Now a few months with my new windows, I can honestly say Ian was right. These windows are great for blocking sunlight rays. It keeps my home cool in the summertime and warm in the winter. Quality of the roofing install was poor causing multiple additional service calls. Lack of adequate supervision played a key role. Same issue with solar install. Not done right the first time. Build Brothers was recommended to us by our remediation company after we had damages to the roof and inside of my house due to the excessive wind and rain in January 2023. My first impression of the company was not a good one after the estimator failed to show up at the agreed time. A different estimator was sent in his place almost 2 hours after the appointment time. Nevertheless, I decided to give them a chance because I knew there was a possibility our solar panels would have to be removed and reinstalled. It took Kenny, the estimator, more than a week to get me my initial estimate of the affected area of my roof. I decided to go ahead with the repairs because the price was fair. It took them over a month to schedule me in and the only reason I was scheduled was because I reached out to Byron, the operations manager, because the estimator was ignoring my texts/calls/emails. The day of the install, the installer informed me that the estimator was wrong and my whole roof needed to be replaced. By this point, I had already made arrangements with the pack out team and my contractor to take care of the inside of the house, well that was pushed back 2 more weeks, meanwhile, my roof was continuing to get more and more damaged as it kept raining and I wasn't getting any answers from Kenny. The roof was installed and the work looks good, but the customer service with this company is awful and laughable, but they are QUICK to invoice and remind you to pay said invoices every few days. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone after my experience. read more

Just had a new roof installed by Build Brothers. The experience went well from the start. The proposal was more professional and detailed than the other firms we called. The foreman, Sergio, was clearly experienced and skilled. The team of workers were hard working and respectful of the property. We had some change orders, and they charged fairly for that work. After the work was finished, I received a final invoice by e-mail, and paid it easily through their QuickBooks link. I would recommend Build Brothers to any of my neighbors. Mike Magiera, "Project Consultant", started by making a narrated video of the roof, which he provided to us. He took measurements, and provided a detailed written estimate. We opted to choose the 30-year Oakridge shingles, which are the mid-tier product with better wind resistance and roof protection. For a small premium, we selected the Owens Corning Deck Defense underlayment, which is the underlayment for a 50-year shingle. We knew we had some bad wood, so Mike provided a rough guide for how much the wood repair would cost. The crew repaired the wood efficiently, and charged appropriately for it. We had requested replacement of all but 2 skylights, but as the work progressed, we found that those last 2 skylights were not in good shape, and also needed replacement. Before starting the job they requested that we sign acknowledgement that roofing creates dust and debris, but even so I underestimated how much debris would rain down through the wood rafters in our living room ceiling. The portion over the garage was done with a Torchdown product. The installation is requires a skilled artisan, and is fun to watch. The finished product looks good, and has passed the test of its first rain storm. read more

We wanted to get solar done and knew we needed a new roof soon. A few people recommended Build Brothers and so we reached out. Within a few days, we had Nick R. come to our house and take a look. We decided to go ahead and proceed. They came out pretty quick and got started on the roof/solar. My only issues throughout the entire process was the lack of communication. All the work that was done to our roof and house was AMAZING, and the workers were all super kind and respectful and cleaned up every day. We even had them redo our porch overhang, and it looks absolutely amazing. And I have never been one to care about a roof, but... our roof looks great. I did notice that our point of contact (Nick) would text us the night before things came up, which was pretty annoying, especially because we would ask him when the next step was and not hear from him for days, then all of a sudden "Oh! We will be there tomorrow!".... Fast forward to them wrapping everything up. A crack was in our ceiling from when they had to replace some wood on our roof. At this point, it felt like my husband got a better response rate than I did so I told him to contact them and let them know. When Nick came out to take a look at the progress and the ceiling, he said the crack in the ceiling was normal, that happens. Which, I get... but lets get it fixed? They also had to upgrade our panel on the side of our house. They had left the Cox Cable box hanging and on the ground (it was previously attached to the house) and we were told we were waiting for permission to operate. We had solar on our roof done at the end of July/Early August. We were then waiting on permission to operate. They had an issue and had not gotten a permit for the panel on the side of the house, so they had to get that taken care of. Which led to more waiting. In the mean time, we got our first bill (in Sept) for the panels and were told we would have solar up and running before we had to make our first payment. They finally got the permit issue resolved, then our solar wasn't working. It took quite a while to get someone out and to take a look at it all. We were told(on 9/23) we would be reimbursed for our first bill since we had all these issues. Finally, on Oct 1st we got our solar up and running. Still have not been reimbursed or had our first bill "taken care of" like we were told. Really, my only issue was the lack of communication. Not to mention, they constantly spelled mine and my husbands name wrong in any of the text messages they sent us. It really just seems like they might be super unorganized and the ignoring your customers messages part is pretty obnoxious. We paid a lot of money for our roof/solar and the lack of communication and days it took for response (even now, we still wait.. because they aren't done yet with all of our projects) is just unprofessional in my opinion. The response was FANTASTIC when they were trying to get our business. Anyways, if you use these guys just expect things to take forever and to not get a quick response time once the projects begin.
