    Shanghai Box

Bul Box prides itself on the build your own bowl concept, something that most people are quite familiar with. So what did I do when I visited Bul Box? I didn't build my own bowl. With many different pre-made combinations, I felt that this would be the best way to evaluate the restaurant and try an assortment of different items and flavors. Overall, I think Bul Box does a great job at providing a lot of variety and the food is relatively decent. I certainly prefer some options more than others, but that's why you try the food! Malibu Poke Box on white rice: This was you standard poke bowl. Mine came with tuna and salmon and other things to garnish the bowl. Everything tasted fresh and the flavors were relatively balanced except for the ginger. I wouldn't choose this on return visits, but it decent and un-problematic. Tokyo Box on white rice: I came right as they closed and the employees were super nice about me ordering at the late hour. As a result, they were missing the curry potatoes, but that wasn't a problem with the bowl. This was easily my favorite choice, the teriyaki chicken was good and all of the flavors meshed really well together. I'd order it again, with the hope I can try the potatoes with it! Shanghai Box on white rice: This was easily my least favorite box, the textures and flavors simply did not work together. There was raw broccoli with grilled veggies and fried chicken. The accompany it were some underwhelming green beans and picked cucumbers which just made this one super confusing. I definitely would not order this one again, but I thought the ginger chicken was on the money. Service is usually pretty good at this Bul Box. The employees don't seem to know what goes in each bowl, but they eventually figure it out and are kind. The interior is vibrant and clean. I could see myself coming back. Knowing many of the ingredients, I feel I can make the perfect bowl for my standards.

This is the Asian Version of Cava and Chipotle. With peppy music paired with a stark environment this spot is perfect for lunch, dinner or catering.

Bul Box in Morrisville gets a solid four stars out of me. The food we had was fresh and delicious. Everything was relatively quick to prepare, healthy, and affordable. No matter if you dine in or take out, every box is prepared the same way and presented beautifully. If only there was a Bul Box closer to us in Chapel Hill, we'd be more frequent customers. There are currently three Bul Box locations in the Triangle: (1) this one in Morrisville near Wegman's, (2) one in the North Hills mixed-use development in Raleigh, and (3) another in Raleigh at Transfer Co. Food Hall. This location in Morrisville is nice, inside and out. It opened in July 2020 and still looked new when we were here. Both the indoor dining room and outdoor patio (uncovered) are spacious and were clean. The setup is fast-casual with orders prepared on-demand in an assembly line format (like Chipotle). Drinks, like organic tea and non-GMO Tractor Beverage Co. brand soda, were self-serve from beverage dispensers. The kitchen is open and ingredients were out on display, whether they were box-ready proteins and veggies on the line or fresh greens in the fridge and containers behind. During our visit, poke boxes were priced at $12 per box, signature boxes with preset ingredient combinations were priced at $10.49 or $11.49 per box, and you could build your own box starting at $9.89 per box. Certain ingredients could add to the cost of a box such as avocado and seaweed salad (+$1 each). There were two poke boxes and five signature boxes to choose from. Bul Box's schtick is eponymous. Their boxes are essentially the same thing as bowls, but they serve food in boxes to be different. The cuisine type is mostly Asian and Hawaiian-influenced (poke). "Bul" means fire in Korean and is most commonly associated with the Korean food bulgogi (marinated and cooked beef). Here's what we got: * Kona poke box with tuna with brown rice ($12) - cucumber salad, roasted beets, banh mi pickles, cherry tomato salad, seaweed salad, crab salad, crispy onions, spicy mayo, and teriyaki sauce * Malibu poke box with salmon and half & half brown rice and mixed greens ($12) - citrus kale salad, bean salad, pickled red onions, avocado, rice puffs, spicy mayo, and teriyaki sauce * Shanghai signature box with noodles ($10.49 + $1.50 for the noodles) - ginger chicken, bok choy, eggplant, roasted veggies, rice puffs, scallion, yum yum sauce, and sweet chili sauce * Seoul signature box with kimchi fried rice ($11.49 + $1.50 for the kimchi fried rice) - bulgogi beef, citrus kale, kimchi, banh mi pickles, romaine lettuce, eggplant, fried egg, scallion, sesame seeds, and gochujang sauce * Thai signature box with brown rice ($10.49) - Thai chicken, jalapeno, cucumber salad, banh mi pickles, roasted veggies, chopped peanuts, cilantro, Thai basil lime aioli, and peanut curry sauce All of the boxes were tasty. I enjoyed everything I tried. Without a doubt, my favorite box was the Seoul signature box. It was also the most eye-popping with the fried egg on top. You can add a fried egg to any box for $1 extra. It's already included in the Seoul signature box. The beef bulgogi was savory and full of flavor. The eggplant was soft and yummy. The spicy gochujang tied everything together. If you want to go extra Korean, I do recommend ordering the Seoul signature box with kimchi fried rice. The box I had the biggest gripe with was the Malibu poke box with salmon. The staff simply did not put enough salmon in the box. The Kona poke box was different because it included crab salad in addition to the tuna (or whatever fish you chose; spicy tuna was the third option). If Bul Box had more generous portions of fish in their poke boxes, I'd recommend their poke. The Shanghai signature box was probably my second favorite followed by the Thai signature box. I ordered noodles with the Shanghai signature box, but I'm not sure they were worth the additional $1.50. The chicken in each box was prepared differently. The Shanghai chicken was battered, fried, and sauced while the Thai chicken was grilled and a leaner cut. The bok choy was crisp. The jalapenos were plentiful and potent (spicy). We originally planned to dine outside on the patio, but wind gusts were about 15-18 MPH, so we dined inside. There was only one couple dining inside when we arrived and they left by the time our order was ready. We were the only indoor dine-in customers for the duration of our visit. For the entire duration of our visit, from entry to exit, the kitchen was constantly busy filling takeout orders. Most were for individual customers who came in to pick up. Bul Box has a designated pickup area next to the register. There were also drivers who came in to pick up orders for delivery. You can order and pay online by following the links at https://bul-box.com/. Service was great. There were three guys. They were polite and worked efficiently. No problems. Drake music played the entire time we were here.

Stumbled upon this place while I was in the shopping Center.. I got the BYOB spicy tuna poke bowl.. it was sooo good, the service was quick and friendly too. I got the Cusabi, gochujang and Thai Basil lime aioli sauces all of it together was so yum and flavourful!! I'll definitely be back to try the chicken bowls too.

I've been eyeing Bul Box for a while now and so it was really difficult to pick out which boxes to try first. The two of us tried the Shanghai Box (Ginger Chicken, Bok Choy, Eggplant, Roasted Vegetables, Rice Crunch, Scallion, Sweet & Sour Sauce, Yum Yum Sauce) and the Seoul Box (Beef Bulgogi, Citrus Kale, Banh Mi Pickles, Kimchi, Romaine Lettuce, Eggplant, Egg, Scallion, Sesame Seeds, Gochujang Sauce). Placing the order online was very smooth. When you enter the restaurant, head to the left side of the cash register for pickup orders. I was in and out in under 5 minutes! Best part of it was that I inhaled both boxes. My favorite toppings were the eggplant and the beef bulgogi. In the future, I think I'll build a custom box since I want to try lots of different combos, but if you're trying out Bul Box for the first time, I'd really recommend picking one of their tried and true Signature Boxes!

    Kona box with spicy tuna

This is my second time coming to Bulbox at North hills mall. The first time, I was perplexed on what to get and I will say the person at the counter seemed new because I ordered the Kona box and she stated I pick another meat as In chicken or bulgogi with the tuna, or salmon; but that was incorrect. So, the first time was okay, I would've rather had the spicy tuna or salmon instead of the chicken. This second time I had it done packed. I got the Kona bowl again with spicy tuna and I added edamame. I suggest you get the dressing on the side if you are going to eat later. I was not happy with the wilted lettuce that was in the box, and ended up picking it all off. Next time, I would probably skip the lettuce and just get the rice, but the Kona box is definitely my favorite. My mother had the bulgogi bowl with the fried egg and hers was also good.

We stopped by on a Saturday for lunch. Have driven by several times and have been wanting to try this place out. It was around Noon and we were the only ones around. The 2 employees were very helpful. We told him we had never been there before and he suggested their most popular bowls. I had the Thai Chicken (without cilantro). For base, I got brown rice. He put the chicken on the grill and it was added to my bowl last with the sauce. Hubby made his own bowl. The ingredients were fresh. It was a good lunch. Just nothing really special. Kinda MEH..........probably won't go back. I prefer the poke bowls.

I've wanted to try Bul Box ever since it opened. I've never had Bulgogi beef and thought I'd finally try it here, but the bowl didn't have exactly everything I like so I went with the Tokyo box. So the Tokyo box has teriyaki chicken, a sweet corn mixture, roasted mixed vegetables (which were amazing), scallions, yum yum sauce, curryflower (that was to die for), just the right amount of pickled red onion, crispy noodles, and topped with a maple teriyaki sauce all on top of brown rice. When it was all being put together it didn't look like it would be a lot, but it really is. I also had them add some cilantro for extra flavor. The only thing I'd say is it could have used more of the maple teriyaki sauce. When I arrived I was the first in the door and didn't feel concerned about safety as masks are required. I just wish the employee had gloves on both hands as he was preparing my meal, not just one. They use an environmentally friendly bowl, but the top is plastic so hopefully I can recycle that. Only thing is it didn't snap in place on the bowl and the food had cooled down by the time I got home with it. It's a little pricey at nearly $13 w/tax and no drink, but I hope to return again soon and try some other things on the menu.

Bright, clean, friendly and brand new! When we walked in today, the first thing we saw was hand sanitizer by the door. We were immediately greeted by friendly waitstaff who gave us all the time we needed and patiently answered our questions. My friend and I each chose the Thai box, mine with white rice and his with Kimchi rice (for an additional fee). You can customize your box, or get one made to order. Our boxes were good! The chicken was well grilled and the roasted vegetables were delicious. The boxes were so big, they were almost too much for lunch. One warning though--the Thai sauce was spicy! I like a medium spice, but this was almost too much for me at first. Fortunately, it grew on me. I gave my friend my sliced jalapenos, though, and that helped. There was additional sanitizer at the cash register, everyone wore a mask and the tables were marked to promote social distancing. They also have a separate entrance and exit. We liked that the boxes were biodegradable, and they even had a recycle bin, which more restaurants could use.

Pretty cool incorporating high end Chinese food, and the atmosphere was fancy but cozy. Don't forget to look around, they have lots of cool decorations! As for food, I was a bit underwhelmed. We started with the salt and pepper calamari which had a great balance of mala spice. It was delicious and set high expectations for the rest of the meal. We mainly came for the Peking duck which was honestly just ok, especially considering the price. I thought it'd come with more meat, most of the duck was skin which also seemed to be sweeter? than usual. We also got the century egg Napa cabbage which seemed very overpriced and under flavored. They were more than happy to be able to do so as everything is made per order! My aunt knows I love a good sangria and wherever we go she always inquires immediately if they have it! Everyone else at the table followed suit, but the service wasn't so instant. More on this later. We were a group of 9, with reservations. The table was nicely located and not off in a corner. In my eyes, Morrisville's strongest qualities are their Chinese and Indian options. Low and behold, Inchin's Bamboo Garden, a Indo-Chinese restaurant. I think the concept is cool, but they have some room to improve for sure. The quality of the food is pretty average, with no real outstanding flavors coming through. I wouldn't pick this place over a traditional Indian restaurant, nor would I choose this place over a traditional Chinese spot. I think one of my favorite items here is the chicken 65 fried rice. It is a good coming together of the Indian appetizer with a traditional fried rice. On the other hand, the mixed Cantonese noodles were a bit confusing. The noodles themselves where Chinese, but the flavor was spicy, a little sour, just, kind of a weird combination. I feel like this was an instance where fusion of cuisines created chaos in my palate, I didn't really know what I was eating! The cauliflower manchurian is also interesting, the sauce itself is decent but the flavors are again, kind of all over the place. I couldn't really tell what exactly I was eating and what flavors were in my mouth. I certainly love the creativity with this restaurant and think the concept is unique and fitting with the area. However, I definitely prefer sticking to the single cuisine and doing just the one thing great.
