I had a good experience at Bun Huggers even though this place was insanely busy. This is not an exaggeration as we probably waited 40 minutes to finally get our food. Luckily, I wasn't in a hurry so it wasn't the biggest deal, but I would probably not like to come when it is this busy again. I did visit in between Christmas and the New Year though, which is probably an extremely busy time for them. They even had to close early as they had run out of food. I thought that was the weirdest thing I had ever seen. In any case I won't fault them for that as the food was pretty good. I liked that they had a table out for you to add your own toppings to the burger. I really liked the fries, better than the burger even, and we also got a combo of zucchini and mushrooms, which were amazing. My favorite thing about eating here though was probably the inside look of the restaurant. It was just a really neat place to eat. read more

Really liked the idea of this place, order your burger, then kick it up how you like it. The only thing was it took over 20 minutes to get my burger. After I got it, it was very good and worth the wait. Also ordered onion rings, which I recommend over the fries because I prefer thick fries and these are the shoestring cut. Bun huggers was decent... Can't say that it was amazing, but it was not bad either.. I had the steak sandwich, which was a full piece of steak. It was not sliced, as most steak sandwiches are. Good food, no service; that is Bun Huggers in a nutshell. I guess that's part of the charm of the place? It's a local fast food joint. You go to one end of the counter and give the kid your order, walk past the grill behind glass to see how your burger is going to be cooked over charcoal (which makes the place smell AMAZING outside), get your drink from the fountain, and then pay the SCREECH!!! Nope, stop; don't pay the other kid yet. Wait till they call your number, then you can pay (insert Jeopardy theme music here and play for an eternity). Okay, maybe calling it fast food was a mistake. Go refill your drink and... hey, my number! Okay, now the kid will take your money, but he still doesn't seem happy about it. The burger comes naked, so you get to dress it up however you want at the well-stocked, but basic, fresh fixings bar (for this place to be any more do-it-yourself would be impossible). Now the good part; burger, onion rings, fried zucchini; all delicious. Everything is fresh and tasty and just what you're hoping for. Buyers Beware! I was recently in Flagstaff for a graduation and took the family for a celebratory lunch at Bun Huggers. As I was enjoying my meal. I received notifications that my card was charged additional $5 for the purchase of my meal. I quickly declined the charge and disabled the card for future use. Later that day my card had 3more charges up to $225 luckily my card was disabled. I'm certain there was an employee stealing credit card information. We went to Bun Huggers on the recommendation from a friend...opens at 1230 PM for lunch...REALLY?? 1230? Most lunch places open at 1100 AM. We gave it a try; for $10 you get an over-cooked, dried out burger that lacks any real taste. The little container included small cut up romaine, limp onions and taste less tomato slices. We shared the extra cost french fries, which was the most tasty part of our meal. You had to ask for mustard, ketchup, salt & pepper. You get one tiny packet of each. This was our first and last time going to Bun Huggers. There are so many better places to get a decent burger other than Bun Huggers, at a better price too! read more

Came to this place because it smells absolutely amazing from the outside, it's always packed. I think the burger is not worth the cost, I've made better frozen burgers on a grill. That's not to say the food was bad, it wasn't, but not worth what they're charging. You have to put all the toppings on the burger yourself which again beckons the question why does the burger cost so much, it's an average patty at best. The fries are good so no complaints there. Burger was okay...had the biggest one they offered (1/2 pound) and that was def a pre-cooked measurement for the weight. Was cooked well and actually tasted pretty decent. The bun seemed store bought but "ok"... The service was lame with one exception...there was a young guy there that took our order and refilled my drink one time, very nice at every opportunity...but the two girls working there were very grumpy to put it nicely...like they didn't have the time of day for us...seemed put out when we asked for the FREE REFILLS, which we had to go up to the counter and ask for... The place wasn't that clean at all (one of the lettuce bowls in the condiment area had no tongs)...1/2 the bowl of lettuce was turning brown... The doorways and window sills were not very clean at all... I have to agree with one of the other reviews that said with a little bit of effort and pride, this would be a great place. This was the first time I'd gone to Bun Huggers and I can definitively say I will be returning. The guy who took my order was really nice, and waited patiently with a smile for me to decide what I wanted (I did take a bit of time). I got my burger really quickly and it was delicious! I don't think I've ever dived into a burger like that, it was tender and juicy, just cooked to all around perfection. The "fixins" bar was clean and well stocked and added a nice touch to being able to create your own burger. I didn't see the salad bar up close, but it didn't look too good from a distance. The fries were a bit of a disappointment, especially after seeing all the amazing reviews on here, but their mushrooms were tasty! Ate here with my parents and was very disappointed. We did go later in the evening, around 6. I loved the idea if a bar style for addi add topping to the burger but it looked as if the toppings had been sitting out all day. I was afraid to even touch the mayo. I had heard about this place and was highly excited to go try it out. I was looking for a place with just a good ole hamburger, with great taste and value. NOT what I got. The hamburger was just like your typical school lunch burger on a store bought sesame seed bun. After your food comes out there's no plates, (since I ordered for 2), it came out on one round serving tray with the fries. Not really conducive to put you condiments on. Oh did I mention the mediocre food for a wildly expensive price? 2 bacon cheese burger, two fries, two drinks = $30! Long story short, the quality food did not even come close to equally the cost. I came to Bun Huggers a few days ago after passing by it earlier that day. After looking it up on google and seeing a 4/5 star rating, my family and I decided to give it a try. Overall I thought it was pretty good. I liked the burgers and having the fixing station is pretty neat and convenient. The best part was the onion rings...OMG so good! The only part I didn't like as much were the fries. Even though they were nice and hot, they were definitely old because it tasted stale. Took the family up to Flagstaff to see the changing leaves on a Sunday. The place was packed with free range, spoiled little soccer kids. Their Scottsdale wanna-be parents putting them all at a table while they sat and ignored them at another. On to the food. It was passable for a good burger. Want flame broiled....Burger King. This place was like a child got turned loose with a grill. WAY over cooked, and putting the "fixin's" bar where everyone breaths all over it and drops other foods into the bins is just disgusting! Now for the staff. We waited over an hour for 3 burgers! There where 6 employees behind the counter. I'll lay it out linearly. One takes your order, one runs the grill, one stands next to him staring at the grill and wrapping the food and texting, one highly trained mans the soda fountain, one makes fries while texting (possibly texting the kid wrapping the burgers) and running the register, and a manager who seems to only be there to flirt with the young lady running the soda fountain. With all that manpower, they still can't figure out a productive system to get people served. I watched as people who ordered after us where given their food long before us. When I brought this to the attention of the Manager, he proceeded to tell me how a regular size hamburger takes waaaaay longer to cook than any other size burger. And directed me to look how small their grill is, and that they do the best they can. It didn't help that just as he directed me to look, they push out 5 burgers of a guy who had been waiting all of 5 minutes. While chatting with the Manager, the cook looks around for my ticket and clearly says "Ooops" and what do you know...my food gets cooked! 'Well that was a bummer', were the first words coming out of my mouth as I left the place. Every time I travel north, I always wanted to try it. My dreams are now shattered. My burger was dry and tasteless. If I wanted to dry out a burger I would attempt to grill one at home. I had bacon cheeseburger and fries ...my burger was super yummy and cooked perfectly, bacon was nice and crispy and just cooked..I really wanted more of this burger...decided to share a meal with the husband and regretted it afterwards. I did not care for the fries too much, but when I dipped them in ranch they were pretty good. My husband has been wanting to eat here and we finally made it happen. The menu was simple and we quickly found what we wanted. I had a chicken breast, hood the bun. My chicken was charbroiled too too long. All I tasted was burned chicken. I was hoping to mask the taste with some type of sauce and only found the standard ketchup & mustard. Delicious... On a recent trip to Flagstaff to escape the heat down South, my girlfriend and I ate at Bun Huggers for the first time. This also happened to be the first time we ate meat for over 6 months, and unlike the last time I had a burger after going veg - this one was the bomb! The charbroiled non-greasy burger served up was perfect - we both had the Fiesta Burger (green chiles and pepper jack cheese). Cheap and flavorless beef, the "fixin's" are all on par with iceberg lettuce, and the place is dirty. Truck stop food is preferable.

If you come here stick to the dining side of this two part venue. Avoid the bar like the plague. Horrible atmosphere for daytime drinking. Way too bright in here for a dive bar. Service average at best. There is a large collection of bar regulars here that want nothing to do with tourists and while I cannot blame them don't waste your drinking dollars here.
