Warning: Review Coercion & $1,100+ Pricing Discrepancy…read more I used Santa Air for five years and recommended them to many friends. Unfortunately, their business model has changed from "honest and hardworking" to "opaque and manipulative." The Technical Issues: In 2020, Santa Air installed my trane system but failed to properly connect the emergency heat strips. I spent five winters wondering why my house wouldn't stay warm below 30°F. They missed this mistake during every subsequent maintenance visit over the 5 years. Recently, they tried to charge me $1,700 for repairs I didn't need. A second opinion confirmed their diagnosis was wrong; that technician fixed Santa Air's original installation mistake and the actual sensor issue for a total of $575. The Billing Issues: Their current pricing "tiers" (Bronze, Silver, Gold) are incredibly over-inflated compared to other local HVAC companies. And if you only need a repair included in the Gold tier, you have to pay for all the things you don't need in the tiers below it. When I realized the invoice was vague and the work wasn't needed, I cancelled. The Ethics Issue: The most disappointing part was the office's response. They tried to emotionally guilt-trip me. They held my refund hostage, telling me they would only return my money if I removed my negative reviews. I refused to be coerced and had to fight for three months through my bank to recover the funds for services never rendered. Don't let the high star rating fool you--they are actively pressuring customers to delete bad experiences. Always get a second opinion!!!

I had previously reviewed these guys and thought they were great. Well that's until you run into an…read moreissue with them. I've had them come out on 3 separate occasions since November 2025 to resolve an issue for me that never got resolved. They told me it was this then if it wasn't this it would be that. We jumped through the hoops and made all the changes to a tune of $800+. When the tech came out a third time in March 2026 and he literally told my husband what we had been having them come out to fix is how the system was intended to function. Sooo why did I just spend $800+ to fix a non-issue and why wouldn't someone else say that? Fast fast forward to May 2026 another tech comes in to complete regular service and what do you know that issue that the last tech said wasn't an issue turns out it is and now they said it would cost me an additional $1100 fix it. This is in addition to the $275 he had just finished swiping my card for to cover their yearly maintenance plan. I contacted the office and spoke to Frank. We agreed to split the initial $800 cost incurred and split ways and he'd reimburse me once he got the new quote. Sent him the quote but cropped the new company out because it's none of their business who has my business now. Well Frank now says they will not be able to reimburse me for failing to do the job and just charging me for things not needed unless I can provide them the invoice showing without cropping out the new company. I could be doing the repairs myself for all it matters. The point is providing you the next company's information should have no bearing or keep you from refunding charges that should have never been billed to begin with. Needless to say I am not being reimbursed half of the initial $800 agreed upon and Frank will likely come on here and try to justify not giving me my money back. Hope the $400 dollars is worth losing me as a customer forever and all the bad press I'm about to give you around town. I forgot to mention the new company is doing the job Cape Fear Air quoted for nearly half the price.

He was very thorough and spent a lot of time servicing my two systems. He broke down the mini-split and cleaned that system from the inside to the outside. He found that the main HVAC system blower capacitor tested out of range and replaced it upon me agreeing with him. Mike was very polite and courteous. He is very knowledgeable and gave me great advice to help me make good decisions to keep both of my systems running over this winter season.

After wasting my time for…read more2-3 weeks without air mind you and hosing me for $200 and still not fixing the underlying problem. I had to have E&J come out to take a look and look closely they did. Many companies send out workers who tend to try and fix the problem or find a problem and off they go to the next job in like 15-20 mins. Not E&J, they spent an hour looking for this localized problem the other air company couldn't find. Well, a day or so later, the part came in and was fixed. If your air blows cold for like an hour and then it loses it's coldness and you don't have a leak and your pressure is normal. Then it's most likely the fan motor which was my case. E&J waited till that fan motor started quitting because they took the time to watch the Hvac where the other company didn't want to spend the time!

Review for E & J Heating & Cooling…read more Excellent I am extremely impressed with this business; from the beginning estimate to the installation, this business exceeds customer satisfaction! I had originally found E&J on Angie's List and requested a quote online. The next day I received an email estimate for my request at the time, to replace the very old air handler as the condenser was just three years old. The next day I got a follow-up email asking if I had received my quote. I emailed back that yes, I received it, and I would get back to them as I was getting a few other estimates for comparison. Weeks later I requested an estimate from E&J for the condensor as well as the air handler. I had called other companies and was I impressed with Eric's estimate as it was competitive and fair, also lower than other well known companies in my area. Eric was very nice about me asking for proof of license and insurance and emailed the documents to me the same day. He was also willing to rewrite the estimate twice as I wanted to be sure it was detailed and nothing was left out. He came over and measured to be sure we were replacing with the correct size unit, and Jennifer called me soon after about financing. She was able to get me set up with the financing company the next day, which is a fairly low interest rate at 6.4 and they have options for 5 yr, 7 yr, 10 yr payment plans with no early payoff penalties. Eric was ble to put me on his schedule for the following Wednesday, just five days after signing with the finance company. Also, the finance company does not pay the contractor until I sign off that the work was completed to my satisfaction. Eric's crew took pictures of everything (as my air handler is in the attic above the garage), took out the old unit, installed the new unit as well as replaced the fuse (was the wrong size for system), replaced the drain pan and drain line, installed two float/cutoff switches, replaced some pipe insulation, new pad for condensor, cleaned everything up and installed my Honeywell programmable thermostat. Eric and his crew were extremely helpful and professional. They truly care about their customers and give excellent service. This has been the best experience that I've had with any contractor in my 10 years of home ownership. Before leaving after installation, Eric made sure he answered all my questions and ensured I understood everything. He even told me in about a week the unit will be inspected by a third party to ensure the system is up to code, and he will send me a copy of the permit. Eric will register the unit for the manufacturer warranty, and he offers a two year labor warranty as well as a two year maintenance warranty. This company went above and beyond, they even picked limbs up out of my back yard, and that had nothing to do with the a.c. install!
