This used to be one of my very favorite restaurants. We arrived as their first guests at 5pm, and everything was off to a great start. Our food arrived as the place began to fill up to capacity... still only the chef and his wife running the entire restaurant. My food was dropped off an I waited and waited for the waitress to be back to see how things were, so I could request a soup spoon to use while eating my angel hair pasta. 15-20 min later still no check in, so I used the tiny teaspoon that came with the shredded Parmesan. My lemon chicken was too lemony and not enough other flavors to be entirely enjoyable, but it was cooked perfectly. My friends enjoyed their meals too, but again with en entirely full restaurant and one server, there wasn't a lot of attention paid. We had to wait over 25 minutes just to receive our check. I was left with so many mixed feelings. It was a Wednesday night, but they should have known their reservations were full. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. Atmosphere is nice i side and yes the owner and his wife are very nice... but checking back with your tables moments after bringing their food to see if all is as expected or whether something else is needed, an important part of the dining experience. This restaurant is outright amazing. The service? Kind, fast, and accommodating. The food? For starters, my veal parm was the best any of us have ever eaten. It was nice and crispy, yet tender, and easy to cut through. The squash and spaghetti on the side were also phenomenal. The coffee was strong, and the garlic bread was delicious. This was my first time here with my partner and our friends. It was a great and amazing experience that I just can't say enough about. I honestly wish I could have taken the time to share the photos of everything but We just wasted no time getting into everything. We were happily greeted by the owner and I assume to be his wife. He welcomed us into the restaurant and guided us to the perfect seats to accommodate us 4. The restaurant isn't big but it provides the perfect ambiance for a date night. Especially when you can bring your own bottle of wine and or alcohols of choice since it's BYOB and it's only a $2.50 per person charge and your glasses, cups, and ice are provided. It's a wonderful thing and not many restaurants do that anymore. A total hidden gem We started off with the garlic bread. It was phenomenal to say the least, absolutely unlike anything I've had before. It was like a mini baguette that had slices diagonally and the sliced parts had cheese in them and the bread and everything was smothered in this delightful garlicky butter. Careful it comes out hot, I just couldn't wait to dig in. The next thing we had was a special on the board called Grilled Italian Sausage. That was great, I love sausage and it was grilled with onions and peppers. And for a third appetizer, I chose the hot Buffalo mozzarella. Before you assume it is not the spicy Buffalo some may think, it is breaded mozzarella di bufala that is covered in sauce and baked to melty perfection. The cheese is amazing and so fresh. Everyone loved it. It was hot, melty, gooey, saucy, and just the right amount of crisp from the breading. For our main entrees me and my partner ordered the chicken parm to share since we had so many appetizers. So pictured is only a half portion.. I can only imagine the normal portion and plating would be quite large and you would never even think of leaving hungry. Before our shared entree came, we got our house salads with their house made garlic dressing. One comes with the meal and I ordered another one so we could both each have one. The greens were fresh and crispy, no soggy or expired salad bits here. The dressing was garlicky and creamy and the chef/owner put on just the right amount. You'll definitely have to try it! Onto the entree, we asked to split the chicken parm and he plated and split the meal for both of us and we were just in awe when it came. Absolutely bigger than anyplace I've ever been to. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the right amount of cheese and pasta. The sauce was sooo good! You could tell it's homemade and made with soo much detail, love, and care. Just an amazing experience on my tongues palette. As you can imagine we scarfed our meal down. We were just absolutely stuffed. But, I just had to try one of the homemade desserts. We chose to share the chocolate decadence cake with raspberry sauce and was just blown away. It was this thick gooey chocolate cake with not much of that normal cake in it you are use to buy a much better twist. It definitely lived up to its name and was very decadent. It wasn't overly sweet and was just absolutely chocolatey. The raspberry sauce which I normally don't like, but I liked this one. It added a hint of that good berry sweetness that doesn't remind you of that cough syrup you had as a kid. My final thoughts of this place is, I will definitely be back! I might go alone just so I don't have to share!! Lol, I'm an only child so sharing isn't something I'm very good at, especially food but I've learned to do it with people I love. DELICIOUS! I went here for my graduation dinner with 4 other people and we could not stop raving about how tasty and huge the servings are! I personally got the papardelle carbonara and it was delicious. The eggy creamy sauce covered the fresh papardelle perfectly with the beauty pieces of bacon and peas. I would get this again. We recommend the sausage and peppers off their appetizers! All entrees came with a salad with creamy garlic sauce. I tend to not like salad dressing but this was so good. It was full of garlic and not too over powering. We started our meals with FOUR orders of garlic bread! It was that good. Super cheesy with TONS of garlic. The way it should be! It was BYOB so we brought our own bottles of wine in. Our server Sam was super knowledgeable about the menu and was super accommodating. The overall restaurant is small, but very warm and inviting. I forgot how good this place is. As other yelpers note, it's a "hidden gem"--an unassuming little spot on Route 44. Back when I used to go with my family when home from college, our table would pretty much stretch across the breadth of the room. The food rather than the atmosphere was always the draw, which makes this kind of the perfect spot for pandemic-era takeout. You don't feel like you're missing the experience of being in a restaurant and the food is just as good as ever. Actually, it's even better than I remember. My usual dish about a decade+ ago was usually some kind of angel hair seafood pasta with a white wine sauce. This time, I got the shrimp cavatappi rose. Everything here is good but I think the cream-based (especially pink) sauces with a heartier pasta must be the chef's specialty. I now dream about this dish. This is a great place for takeout--the food was still hot even after the drive from Canton to Simsbury. And the portions are huge! I think it worked out to two dinners plus lunch for me. We also had some kind of chocolate ganache torte (I don't recall the name) that was delicious. Buon Appetito doesn't really have the most active social media presence. You can find the menu pinned on their facebook page--yes, it's from 2017 and I think the prices haven't changed! Just need to give another shout to Hoa, it is soft shell crab season and his dish with the crabs served over angel hair pasta with asparagus and lemon saffron sauce is by far the best soft shell crab I have had any where. The crab is perfectly fried in a very light batter and covered in a very tasty lemon saffron sauce. I look forward to this every year at this time. First and last time eating here. The garlic bread was great. The dressing on the minimal side salad was okay. This was the second worst Italian meal I've ever been served. The worst was from my daughter-in-law who turned spaghetti sauce into soup and overcooked the pasta by ~10 minutes. I ordered a basic dish, the pasta was only overcooked by about 5 minutes. The sauce was watery and bland, with zero herbs to be found. While we waited for our food, two sets of diners came into the restaurant and finished their meals before we were served our entrees. Ambiance? 20+ years old. I'm not sure when the health department last checked this place. The ceiling fans are caked with dirt. It just felt grubby in there. Been going here since they opened. This is our go to place for celebrations. Food is always spectacular and the staff is so friendly.

When we arrived they sad 15-20 min wait, ok fine. We were seated about 45 mins later. We waited over an hour for our food to come out and it was stone cold. We had a pizza, veal parm, eggplant parm and a hangar steak. The pizza would have been great had it been hot and not soggy. The eggplant was so cold I sent it back. They brought another out fairly quickly. There was one tiny piece of eggplant on the replacement with all pasta. Nothing special at all. My wife's steak was over done but very tasty and the potatoes were amazing. The owner came by to check on us and asked how our meal was. I said it would have been great if everything wasn't cold. He looked mad, at us! Didn't apologize just walked away. The waitress offered us dessert free but we're on a diet so passed and were also heading to the casino and didn't plan on spending hours and hours there. They took 10% off the bill. This place may be better on a week night but we'll never find out as we would not return. The Espresso martini was really good with actual espresso, not espresso vodka. read more

Went there last weekend with another couple got there at 6, and at 730 having only been served our garlic bread and salad that came with meal, and waiting for 30 minutes for the waitress to even come to the table. As we waited, and time passed a couple came in and ordered and was served their food , another group of three sitting behind us same. Meanwhile our waitress kept going outside to her car, and within seconds coming back but never checking on us, updating us or anything. Finally at 715 after being there for and hour and a quarter we ask, where's our food ? The waitress "I'll check " and she never comes back. Finally as she's serving another table that came in after and we see a "takeout order" come and go I say we're done we've been here 90 minutes and nothing. She says it's always like this in Friday and Saturdays it's only the chef/owner in the kitchen and our food was about to come out. Several things , either cut the amount of tables or limit the menu, or get help in the kitchen!!! The restaurant is outdated decor has not changed since last time we were there 30 years ago and to be honest its time has come to pack it in. We finally had the chance to experience this gem of a restaurant after having read so many awesome reviews and were not disappointed! In fact, we were blown away! We opted for take out (although Buon Appetito does have dine-in), and our meals were excellent. From the super fresh garden salad with house made dressing (loved it!), to the parmesan garlic bread (do NOT forget to order this bread, trust me!!!), to their authentic Italian homemade pasta entrees made expertly and with a lot of heart and soul, EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious! Prices are great for the quality and quantity of food you receive. In addition to the fabulous food, the waitstaff was equally fantastic and a pleasure to deal with when we came in to order and were so funny, kind and helpful! Still one of our very favorite spots after living in Avon 15 years. Friendliest servers, consistently delicious food. We love the BYOB practice, because we have a TON of wine and we know what we like. It's so nice to know that an excellent restaurant hasn't changed in all this time. I know some people get bored with consistent excellence - I guess we do not. :) We love that we get leftovers from the generous portions. We love that we know the menu and know what we love. Wow-- my 100th review !! I'm puzzled by some of the negative reviews that criticized the service and interior of this very good restaurant. We had a very nice dinner experience tonight. We were greeted promptly and heard our pleasant server rattle off what must have been ten dinner specials. In truth, it was far too much to remember, a menu insert would have been better. We tried some of their signature garlic bread and it was every bit as good as we had expected. It was fresh, with fabulous texture, still warm, and chock full of rustic garlicky goodness. Our entrees were 1) Rosa Cavatappi with shrimp - very well done and a nice portion, and an entree whose name I neglected to write down, foolishly thinking they would have a website I could look at for reference, but - no they have no website. I had a spinach fettucine in a spicy sauce with tomatoes, mushrooms, sausage and chicken. The chicken was fabulous- moist and tender and outstanding. So often in these sort of dishes, the chicken is a little tough or overcooked- this was cooked to perfection. THe grated cheese was served tableside -off of a block of cheese and a grater- nice touch. Dinner totalled $47 and we took half of it home for another day. It was a very satisfying meal, good value, good service, nice atmosphere. The only mis-step I could fault them on was the unattractive tower of aluminum take-out dishes stacked on a kitchen counter in full view of the dining room patrons. One of the smallest Italian restaurants I've ever been to. Definitely didn't know there was even a restaurant in the cluster of buildings it's in off 44 as you approach the Canton shoppes. But those neon lights drew my eye one day, along with those Italian words in the distance. Yes, there's a restaurant there! Top notch garlic bread. I'd say a definite must-try. The Asiago sets it apart from the typical garlic bread. We tried the chicken primavera and the eggplant mascarpone; both very good. I always go for eggplant parm so the eggplant mascarpone was an obvious choice for me. It's a bit of a deviation from the norm being that it has spinach and Alfredo, but it all works very well together. The decor isn't award winning, and it might smell a tinge of mothball, but the food was really good, the portions were huge, and it was BYOB, so I definitely see us going back! read more

A place this hidden doesn't last as long as it has without being incredible. I think Buon Appetito has been open around 25 years and I've always had amazing meals there. Chicken Oregano is my go to but I will change it up on occasion and I'm always happy with my meal and the leftovers for the extra day because portions are not small. Always loved the fact that they were byob, not that matters with take out only but one day we will be back to eating inside restaurants and you'll be able to celebrate that here by bringing your own bottle. We stopped in on a Saturday for an early dinner at this cozy BYOB. We didn't have reservations and they were gracious enough to seat us, and I am so glad they did! I would however recommend reservations bc it did fill up quickly. This is a hidden gem. The food was amazing-we had the Giobatto pasta dish and Chicken Gorgonzola. I don't know how this place only has 3 1/2 stars. I haven't been here in a while, but the few times I ate here it was the best Italian I've had anywhere in CT. First of all, the menu has so many different Italian dishes it makes it really hard to choose and the garlic bread is fantastic, you might want to order 2. My favorite dishes are the Shrimp Picante ($18.95) and the Sea Scallop Broccoli Alfredo ($21.95). The Picante, has shrimp, sausage, and cherry peppers, in a spicy marinara sauce and the scallops in the alfredo are succulent and large in a creamy parmesan sauce. I can't wait to try so many other dishes here. I know the soft shell crab is seasonal and is a huge contender here. My friend ordered it one time when it was available and he raves about it, as did everyone else in the restaurant. To top it off, there is not an Italian chef here, his name is Hoa and he is amazing and knows exactly how to cook Italian cuisine, so kudos to Hoa for being such an amazing chef and serving such phenomenal Italian! read more

Me and my friends were at the Foxwoods resort and we wanted to have some good Italian food. A lady from the hotel recommended Buon Appetito to us and said was the best Italian spot in the area. So we me and my friends went. Right as you walk in you have an amazing staff that treats you like family which is something all restaurants need to strive for. We sat outside and looked at the beautiful views of Connecticut. Issue with the outside the bees were everywhere!! We had such an amazing waitress as well super friendly and super funny. We had calamari which was out of this world one of the best calamari I ever had. I also got the Gnocchi Pomodoro dish. The gnocchi was one of the best gnocchis I had ever had at a restaurant. That gnocchi dish was made with love, it was such a good dish and I would absolutely go here again if I'm at the FOXWOODS hotel or if I'm close to the area. What an amazing restaurant with amazing staff, food, and drinks. read more

If there was ever a place where looks could be deceiving, this is it. First of all, it's in a non-descript strip mall (if that). Second, the decor inside is spartan. Third, for an Italian place, there's a Vietnamese Chef. But you know what? This place is one of the hidden gems of the Farmington Valley (and Hartford area). It's been here for a while so you only survive on good word of mouth. And those who know, know what you'll get. Melt in your mouth garlic bread. Friendly service, FOUR types of Risotto. Eggplant Rollatini. And Shrimp/Scallop dishes that are fresh without being fishy. Oh, and fresh homemade pasta. Even had the Filet Mignon recently and it was juicy with lots of garlic. Yummy. Been going to B.A. for close to 10 years, although less often in recent years due to business of life, kids' activities, etc. First off, the decor & ambiance is not why you come. It's festive & reminiscent of Boston's north end (cramped, loud, chef 12' away in half-open kitchen). Prices haven't changed in 10 years and it's BYOB, so they're not gouging you to redecorate. Food is really good, slanted northern Italian, but don't expect authentic. Giobatto, Sachiatinni (sp? pasta pockets stuffed w/ Gorgonzola), and eggplant mascarpone are all awesome. Some might stick 'fusion' on the label, but I just think it's flavorful, varied, and chefs are willing to change anything you want, sub one meat for another, add whatever. Love this place! Ambiance is lacking but the food is great. It's BYOB so bring along a nice bottle of wine with you. The garlic bread is a must, especially if you love garlic as much as I do. I've tried several seafood pasta dishes and have not been disappointed. I recommend the Seafood Mediterranean. Yum. I heard the risotto is excellent but it's not served on Fridays and Saturdays. Incredibly good! The restaurant is pretty nondescript from the outside. It is certainly small and inside could probably use a touch up. But the food... There are so many Italian spots around here and after four visits to Buon Appetito I can say 100% they are one of the best. We've hit a good portion of their menu, each dish phenomenal.
