What a fantastic dining experience we had here Mother's Day weekend! My mom and I went to visit an old friend of hers on the Saturday of that weekend; my daughter was with us. After our visit, we wanted to pick a nice place to eat dinner, and because my kiddo said she wanted pesto, I went to faithful Yelp to look for a new Italian spot to check out. I will admit that I was a bit hesitant to try Buon Gusto out at first, not being from or too familiar with the area, and then there was the wait, but I am so glad we held our spot in line for a table. We were sat in the line of view of those who are waiting to be seated. I thought this would make me uncomfortable at first, but I hardly noticed them. Our server John was super friendly and attentive, very personable. One of the owners that we talked to also was social with us when I asked him about his restaurant and the influence for the menu items. I did not get his name, but he let me know he has Greek and Italian roots, which makes sense seeing that there are a lot of Greek/Mediterranean items on the menu as well. I believe he said his Italian ancestry is from Sicily, which was nostalgic for me because Sicily was one of my favorite weekend trips back when I spent a summer in Italy. Anyway, on to the food. I ordered the Penne Marco Polo which came with a delicious cream sauce and served with shrimp, broccoli, mushrooms and artichokes mixed in. It was one of the best pastas I have ever had! My mom ordered the chicken piccata - it was good, but she did have a complaint. Her plate arrived drowned in the wine sauce. I do not think it was supposed to be that wet. My daughter ordered the kids fettuccini, and our server was able to modify it so that it would come with pesto instead of the alfredo or pomodoro sauce. Have always loved this place, used to live close, since moved and can't find an Italian place that feels like this one. Every server is a dream, tonight John served us and went above and beyond with service. Bread came out, (delicious and full of garlic) but our little ones aren't huge on garlic. We asked if it was possible to get it without and he said he would see what he could do. Not 5 min later, we had fresh baked bread without the garlic. Food was exceptional as always! read more

My best buddy and I loved this spot on first sight. We rendezvoused here for lunch this afternoon. It is half way from each of our homes. How convenient! It is the kind of old school I Italian restaurant that we grew up on. The menu is so familiar and wonderful. All of the old favorites; Oso bucco, Veal scalopini, all the pastas! It was the pizza that we fell in love with. Just a simple large cheese pie is how we evaluate a new favorite. This pie is the "real deal". The crust was thin and crispy, the sauce was just right, the cheese was melty and hot and gooey. We loved it! We will be back to try the sub sandwiches for lunch next week! Hugeeee portions!! We got to go food but once we got there to pick up our food, kinda wish we stayed for the energy. Seemed a lot bigger than we imagined and very old school Italian. On my most recent visit, I had the opportunity to try one of their calzones. My friend and I split a large calzone and it was really good! I can't remember the last time I had a calzone but I'm happy I had it here. For the price, I felt it was worth every penny as the portion was massive and it was very flavorful. It had the right amount of every single topping and I felt like I wouldn't have been able to eat it all on my own. Also, the service was absolutely excellent. It was extremely busy in here on a Saturday night but the server and bussers often brought us water and cleared the table of plates when needed. They have the best lobster ravioli. I use to work a few minutes away from Buon Gusto and I would order this entree at least once a week because it was that good. My overall rating for the taste is definitely 5 stars however I rated the restaurant as a whole 4 because I do wish they would be a little bit more generous with the portion size. It's about $20 something dollars for about 4-5 raviolis. They do give you complimentary bread which is nice and the bread is always fresh. I like to dip it in the pink vodka cream sauce with some parmesan and chili flakes on top. Literal chef's kiss. Came here on New Year's Eve, expected a long wait, terrible service, and decent food. I'm happy to report that only one of those was correct. Also the bread that they gave was so addicting we had to eat it twice. Caprese My girlfriend loves this classic food and you can never go wrong with this: It's literally three ingredients. It was clean and good, although in my eyes it was missing some kind of acidity to it. Margherita Pizza A very juicy and good pizza. A lot more dough than I thought it would have judging by the looks, but still very good. Spicy Vodka Pasta Maybe it's personal preference, but there was a sweetness to the sauce that I did not like. It reminded me of the Rose Buldak flavor. Not my style of spicy vodka, but idk it might be how it's supposed to be and I'm just used to Americanized Cheesecake Factory style. Dropped in for lunch and decided to enjoy the comfortable outside dining patio. We were seated immediately upon arrival by the very friendly staff and provided with menus. There are lots of pasta dishes to choose from and I decided to go with the "Athena," which was butter and mizithra cheese. I enjoyed lounging and talking to the friendly server upon ordering my selection. The server was very helpful in describing the wide range of menu choices. He was very attentive and quick in bringing out our drinks. When the food arrived, I was impressed at the wonderful portions of pasta. It was fresh and steaming from the tray. Once at the table our waitress (I didn't get her name) greeted us with a warm smile. She took our order and was off. The rest of the staff was nice as well. Everything was good EXCEPT the bread they handed out at the start of our stay. It was stale. I'm assuming it's normally better since we went in on a Monday night. Change the bread and these guys have 5 stars from me in my opinion. We were huge fans of Spaghetti Bender in Newport Beach. Sadly it closed down after many years. A craving for something to fulfill our favorite restaurant drove us here. Although not quite as charming or personable as Spaghetti Bender was, we love it in a different way. Food is really good. Portions are big enough to have leftovers for the next day. I really loved my pizza toppings: sundried tomatoes, olives, feta and sausage. The crust was not my favorite. It was a cracker type thin crust which was a little dry. Like a traditional wood burning oven style. I see now on the menu that they have a thick crust so I should have tried that. My husband and nephew loved their subs - they were giant and tasty. Went here last night for dinner with the bf and son, after trying beechwood pizza and not wanting a 45 minute wait when it was already 7:20pm. Glad we came here. Wait was not long at all, maybe 5 minutes if that. We sat outdoors and I'm so glad we did because it was quieter and cozier than indoors. I liked the homey feeling, as my bf said. We ordered a glass of muscato to share and it was crisp, light and delicious with our dinner. We started with bread while looking over the menu. Wasn't anything worth writing. My son ordered their gnocci in pink sauce. Bf and I eyed the same 2 dishes on the menu so he ordered the lobster ravioli and I ordered the penne alla pastora, which is Italian sausage, penne pasta in pink sauce, mushroom topped with a huge layer of ricotta cheese and baked. It was delicious and the portion is huge. We polished off the lobster ravioli and even though we split both dishes, had the alla pastora to take home. Son took home a small portion of his gnocci and said the pink sauce was good. Noticed he didn't order any protein with his gnocci I had assumed everything came with a protein, so next time I'll make sure he has at least a side of Italian sausage because all he ate was a gang load of carbs. SMH Kinda bummed they only serve Pepsi for soft drinks instead of coke, but it is what it is. Not sure what "starry" is on the soft drinks menu, but I might give that a whirl next time. Second visit for us. Funny... it's been here for years and our good friends had been coming for years but they just introduced it to us a month or so ago. It's convenient for us to meet in the middle and it's a good size restaurant. Servers have been very nice both times. Tonight we had Julia and I asked her "which one" between a few dishes I was torn between. I went with the Oso Buco and it was really really good. Gave my husband a bite and he said we are sharing it next time. He had his vongole (clam linguine) which is one of his go to dishes in any Italian restaurant, but he has been spoiled by Manila clams elsewhere and always hoping other places would be as good. My girlfriend ordered what I had last time but substituted vegetables for the pasta. When dishes were brought we were in awe of the portion sizes. She also loves oso buco but hadn't tried it here so I gave her a bite. She was wowed as well Love that they don't charge corkage fees and although we were full and packed up a lot of leftover food, we were happy to have gelato after and the chocolate chip espresso was oh so good. Very unheard of nowadays. There's also a cute and long bartop and of course you can order your own drinks here as well. The menu is large and there's a lot to choose from no matter what you're in the mood for. I opted for a simple build-your-own pasta choice with rigatoni, broccoli, tomato, garlic, olive oil, and sausage. They asked if I wanted the sausage cut which was a nice touch - you can ask for any of your meat to be pre-cut with your meal if you want! I also spied a calzone on someone else's plate that looked delicious, as did all of the other food around me.
