Also, lots of items to choose from on the menu. I came by with a few relatives so we tried a good number of things on the menu. We got the avocado cream, shaken yogurt strawberry, avocado smoothie, and kumquat with salted plum. All delicious. I really enjoyed the avocado cream. The ice cream is so velvety and pairs so well with the coconut and avocado flavors. The avocado smoothie took long and was icey, so I'd skip it next time. We finally had the chance to dine-in in one of the many restaurants in San Jose's Little Vietnam area. Buon Me Cafe is located in the Grand Century Mall within the commercial block of a Walmart Supercenter and Vietnam Town. The atmosphere is made to resemble Vietnam in the 60's & 70's with vintage-inspired and nostalgic interior that recreates the cozy atmosphere and street vibe of old Saigon. Aside from the retro murals, there were displays of antique relics like a tricycle scooter (outside by the door), charcoal clothes-pressing iron, gramophone and a cast metal manual sewing machine. It felt like I was having a meal in a museum with sentimental memories of my grandparent's house in the Philippines. A older gentleman approached us to take our orders but immediately retreated and summoned a younger server who spoke English. She was helpful and attentive. For our caffeine fixes, My wife got the creamy and sweet Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng) while I had the traditional Vietnamese Phin Coffee set of civet coffee (cà phê chồn). This elaborate coffee set-up was served in a tray with the paperless metal filter pour-over system, carafe of condensed milk, cup of jasmine tea and a glass of ice cubes. I learned after that this was representative of an authentic, premium Vietnamese café experience as intense, slow-dripped phin coffee is almost always served alongside a complimentary glass of hot or iced jasmine tea to cleanse the palate between rich sips. Our adventurous Friday brunch continued with us sharing the Stir-Fried Ribeye Skillet (Bánh Mì Chảo Bò Ribeye Xào) and Fried Chicken Cartilage (Sụn Gà Chiên). Bun cha hanoi - comes with veggies, noodles, and meats inside a bowl of sauce broth which has plenty of flavor but more on the sweeter side. All of these items were on one big plate. You can drip the noodles inside meat bowl to get more flavors too 2. Banh trang tron - which is mixed rice paper. I came to try the food this time, and it did not disappoint! My friend ordered the sizzling plate and really enjoyed it! She said it's one of her fav dishes to get for Viet food. I got the broken rice plate, but the meat was a little different from what I'm used to having with broken rice. It came with a bone-in pork chop, which made it a bit harder to eat compared to the BBQ beef I usually get. I normally don't like anything coconut, but the matcha coconut juice was surprisingly so refreshing! Once you mix everything together, it kind of has a pandan-like flavor that I really liked. My mom wanted to roam around this area so before we did that, we decided to have lunch first. For lunch, we ordered fried shrimp cakes, bun dau mam tom, and 2 Buon Me special noodle soups (one with egg noodles & one with rice stick noodles). The only items I tried were the fried shrimp cakes and bun dau mam tom. Both dishes were good but through personal preference, I prefer the shrimp that's in the fried shrimp cakes without the shell. Customer service was nonexistent. After the waiter came to take our orders, we never saw him again. At the end of the meal, my mom went up to the cashier counter to pay and had asked to add a serving of vermicelli noodle for to go and a few take out containers. They told her that someone would bring the containers to our table. A little while later, she went back to the counter to ask for bags. Had a great dinner here Sat late night. We had a group of 6 and they had a long table we were sat at. Service was a bit slow and not the most attentive but when they did come by they were very helpful, answered all our questions, helped to stir our fried fish and taught us how to eat it. We wanted to try something new. Friend suggested Buon Me Cafe. The menu was big... plenty of options from rice, noodles to baguettes. It wasn't too busy on a Friday night and was quickly seated. Restaurant is rustic with wooden chairs, tables and couches. Mural and big display on the walls. We started with mixed rice paper salad. Instead of vegetables, it's cut up rice paper with mango, nuts, quail eggs and chilies. It was different and we liked it. Great way to start a meal. We tried the sizzling filet mignon pot. It had sunny side egg, pate, sausage, filet mignon, cheese and other stuff. Served with a baguette that you can dip on the sauce. It was delicious.... Might be too heavy for others and can be shared. Meat was tender and juicy. What a combo! Would try the ribeye version next time. We ordered some desserts to close out our meal. First, we had the avocado cream. I suggest mixing the two cry cream with the avocado cream. I was ok with it. We also ordered the sweet dessert. It came with lychee, Pandan, and seedy drink. Great way to end the evening. I haven't tried anything here that I didn't like! I come here with friends and family all the time, it's our go to when we want a variety of Viet dishes & we just want to hang out to chat as well. They have both common Vietnamese dishes and street food that you can only find in the streets of Vietnam. + Their drink selection is top tier. It's like a café and traditional restaurant all in one here with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, a super clean environment and all around has the vibes like back in Vietnam. The workers are nice and provide quick and pleasant service. I've had their bo kho (a bit on the thicker side but still tasty), hu tieu (dry or also with soup - both are delicious), bo luc lac (super tender beef), banh mi chao (super tender meat with a tasty sauce that pairs well with the crispy bread), nem nuong cuon (just like the famous one in SoCal!), banh trang tron (so good i love the toppings and how the sauce is mixed in perfectly well without compromising the texture), this one chicken rice plate with mung bean sticky rice (a bit on the sweet side but still good), and the spicy noodle soup (i think this is their take on korean army stew, it's not too spicy and it's good). There may have been more dishes that I've tried but these are the highlights!! As for drinks, you really can't go wrong with their blended yogurt (i love the peach or mango or passion fruit one), egg coffee, and matcha drinks. In terms of price, it is a bit more expensive than other restaurants serving similar dishes. BUT, I think it's worth it because you can't find all the same dishes in the same place, they have a huge variety here and they do it all so well. Both times we've been here, we've ordered bún chả Hà Nội and nem cua bể: absolutely delicious! The chả cá là vọng was a new dish for me and the lightly fried fish with heaping piles of dill was a great combo. You also can't go wrong with their sizzling plates: they come with fresh bánh mì! Not to mention, their drink menu is quite extensive and almost every table ordered some type of drink. We couldn't help but order an avocado smoothie, but need to try other drinks as well! Pretty cool that the sticky rice was cube shape. The Spring Roll sampler was good too. I like the nemnuong the most with good sized sliced sweet sausage. I like the orange sauce the most too. Paired the best with all three types of spring rolls. Hu Tieu Noodle bowl was ok. Not the best one I've had. I got it dry style which means soup on the side. The bowl of noodles had a slightly sweet salty sauce which could be fish sauce. The soup was really good though. Meaty flavor broth but oily. The food comes out hot and there may be a bit of a wait but nothing unusual if the food is being made fresh on a cast iron skillet. This is my second time here and I ordered a #26 while my friend ordered a #25. I found mine to be somewhat salty and needed to drink a lot of water to get it down. My friend thought theirs was fine and was very good. Service here is always a miss in my opinion. The first time I came here was with a large group and they got our orders correct but set it down on the wrong side of the table. As it was a large group, we couldn't see what was happening and there were confusion when most food arrived and things were missing. It would have been better to ask the table on both sides (We had 4 tables put together) whose order they were holding. It didn't happen this time around but our waitress never came back to check on us. We needed extra napkins and most importantly, water refills. Popped by for lunch on a Saturday right at noon and the place was completely packed, ended up waiting about 15 minutes for a party of 3 before getting seated. You add yourself to the waitlist in person on an iPad and the restaurant shares a large (but very busy!) lot with the rest of Little Saigon in San Jose. 4 Roll Sampler (4/5): Nothing crazy, just solid summer / spring rolls with a variety of fillings. My favorite is always going to be the one with a fried spring roll in the center for that added bit of texture, but I did like that they also came with a flight of sauces: classic peanut, fish sauce, and my favorite which had a base of crab butter. Banh Mi Chao Bo (4.25/5): Beef was super tender and the sauce is deliciously savory with a bit of tomato flavor. Their version comes with a block of laughing cow cheese, a meatball, and runny eggs. My only complaint is I wish there was a bit more steak, but absolutely delicious and paired exactly how I wanted with the freshly toasted baguette. Hu Tieu Nam Vang (3.75/5): Solid rendition, but didn't blow my socks off. Nice chewy noodles and okay amount of toppings. Broth unfortunately was just okay. We came here for dinner on our last night in town. When we walked in, we were seated within a minute. It was not very busy for a Sunday night. We ordered the summer roll sampler, Hu Tieu rice noodle soup, Mi Dac Biet soup, bun cha Ha Noi, and a strawberry smoothie with popping boba for my girls. Everything was very good. The broth in the Hu Tieu was especially flavorful. My bun cha was quite oily due to the fatty pork, but it was still really delicious. Walking around Vietnam town and came across this cute cafe! The decorations outside are so pretty perfect for Chinese new year. The cafe had a lot of drink selection and food. The service was very nice and fast. The food was delicious we got the soup rice noodle and the meat dish with bread. The pork spring rolls were yummy especially with the crunch inside. We popped in here for lunch. There was a bit of a wait but it wasn't long. My tablemates ordered a crispy pork ban mi. This was very good. I ordered a shaking beef garlic noodle. Noodles didn't have enough garlic but beef was flavorful and tender. Restaurant is clean. Service is indifferent. No one came by to refill out water. My noodles showed up after everyone finished their sandwich. Deduct one star for meh svc. read more

Came back to try some dishes. Service was good, especially for Asian restaurant. We opted to sit inside as it was too hot outside and people were smoking. The shaken beef with red rice (you can change for garlic rice or noodles):3.5 stars. Good amt of beef and tender meat. However it needed some flavors. We ask for lemons and salt and pepper and dip it in that. Got the #32 which I thought was crab eggroll but it was shrimp egg roll. 3 stars. It was decent and crunchy (freshly made) but it had one shrimp and minced pork and veggies. Liked the accompaniment of veggies and vermicelli but will not be getting that dish again. read more
