If you're willing to wait, this is a unique and fun dessert spot that serves really beautiful and delicious (though expensive) desserts. Parking in Vietnamtown is always a pain, plus there seems to always be a 30+ minute wait, but if you're not in a rush I do think it's worth it to come back at least once. There is a paper waitlist that they verbally call names from, so I suggest you wait in the area. There is only a small amount of seating, and it does get a bit cramped. That said, the service is quite good. The servers are quick to take your order, and the food is quick to come out. The food is very Instagram-ready, sometimes to the point of photogenic, almost to the point of being a little more difficult to eat. Aspects of the food are separated or deconstructed in a way that requires more assembly than I might normally like. That said, the flavors are pretty good, though I wish there was more of the key flavor in some of the items (e.g. more salted egg custard in the Salted Egg Custard Toasted). There are a lot of Southeast Asian flavors, like pandan, mango, and coconut. Compared to the soft opening, everything runs quite smoothly now. This was my first time visiting NaYa. I'd seen long lines when it first opened, but even now lines are quite long months after opening. Our party had 7 people so it took longer to get seated. They use a manual waitlist and will call your name once tables open up for your group. Staff were nice but could have managed table placement more smoothly. If you have a larger group, they will prioritize seating the smaller groups even if they are after you on the waitlist so make sure to check with a server. The cafe itself is quite small. Although there is outdoor seating, there isn't a lot of place to stand and wait for your name to be called. Our server double-checked with us on our order after we initially placed it, but they unfortunately got it wrong at first and had to edit it which added a few minutes to the wait time for the dessert to get to the table. We ordered the Mango Sticky Rice Bingsu and the Black Thai Tea Crepe to share. There is Crepe and Crepe Cake on the menu, but only Crepes were available when we went. The difference between them is that the Crepe only has cream inside, while the Crepe Cake will have actual layers of cake. Out of the two, the bingsu was more refreshing while the crepe was rich and decadent. Both were good, but on the pricier side at $18 each. The mango pieces for the bingsu needed to be chopped smaller and we could have used more mango sauce. Given the long wait and pricing, I'm not sure if I would visit again. I'm honestly a little shocked at the ratings for NaYa, as people are pointing out, yes - the wait is quite long, the shop is quite small, the seating is not ideal, the water is warm and it tastes like my childhood hose water - but despite all that, this is some of the best bingsu i've ever had. I have had the SF location, and the menu is similar now I think - maybe the SF menu was slightly more extensive, but it had the main attractions I think. I tried the melon and mango sticky rice bingsus at the SJ location, and wow, I was blown away. The shaved ice is so milky, it actually tastes like eating milk, and as it melts, it doesn't reveal itself as ice with some milk flavoring - it's genuinely shaved milk. You don't need to drown the ice in condensed milk to taste something. I would love if you could layer it with some red bean or something, but the fruit and ice are delicious on their own. I was also so shocked that the mango sticky rice came with actual mango sticky rice and it wasn't just a gimmick flavor. Mango sticky rice is one of my favorite desserts of all time, so I loved that. I was intrigued by Thai influenced shaved ice so the mango sticky rice shaved ice was an easy choice. I thought the mango itself and the sticky rice were actually very good. The mango tastes like Thai mango and not Mexican mango. However, I wasn't a fan of the shaved ice. I would describe NaYa's shaved ice texture as similar to Korean bingsoo, where it is creamy versus icy. However, it is not as fine as Korean bingsoo, which I would prefer. I do think naya has some very good ice cream so it's definitely something to look forward to when you order any of the items with ice cream. Some things to note are that it does get pretty busy sometimes, and the seating outside is a little bit iffy but it's doable. If you do sit inside the cafe, it is a tight space, but it's not the worst. The pricing is quite reasonable and you get a decent portion to share between 3-4 people. The service was reasonable. Omg I've been wanting to go to the SF location for the longest time, but now I don't need to because they opened a location in SJ!! SJ needed this especially because they close at like 12 or 1am, and I feel like SJ doesn't have any dessert shops open that late at night. We had to try the mango tango bingsu because I feel like that's what they're known for. It came with half of a really ripe and sweet mango, sticky rice, and mango puree to top the snow. I really liked how soft the snow was, but thought it was a tad bit too creamy/sweet. The mango puree was delicious, but I didn't really like how coconut-y the sticky rice was. Came here on a saturday night with my boyfriend, it was really busy when we came around 9 PM, we got sat down after 20-30 minutes of joining the waitlist. Service : There was 2 servers in the front of the house, a brown hair male and a male with glasses. We searched for parking for a while! It's a pretty small shop too but they do have some outdoor seating. It looked crazy busy but they have a waitlist to put your name down hanging at the door so that was nice to be able to see how many were actually ahead of us. Even for a Saturday evening, we didn't have to wait very long at all- maybe 10 mins max! Their staff were very efficient and they were turning tables over very quickly, ready to take orders, bring waters, clean up dishes, and then bring checks right away. They're definitely doing it right! The mango tango bingsu was so delicious. The consistency of their milk snow was so good! And overall the dish wasn't too sweet at all. The sticky rice was just the right amount and the mangoes were so ripe and sweet. We also had the Ferrero Crepe. You get to pick two types of ice cream with it. It's a huge plate so definitely want to share that one, whereas I could probably enjoy the whole bingsu myself if I really wanted to. My only complaint is the pricing. It's a little bit off - both of our dishes were $17.99 each. This is fair for the bingsu in my opinion because of the work it takes for the snow and the various ingredients and plating. Perfect place to grab dessert after a seafood dinner. The group wanted a mango sticky rice and the mango tango did not disappoint. Some may want more rice, however I enjoyed the milk snow part with the mango puree as it was very refreshing. I love Naya, so I was so exciting when they finally opened in San Jose in the Vietnam Town plaza!! We got the Black Thai Tea Crepe and it was so good, just like in SF. The sweetness level Is just right and eating the crepe with the Thai tea cream is chef kiss. We also tried their Mango Bingsu and it was so refreshing and yummy. The shaved ice + mango + sticky rice is such a perfect combo, I would definitely get it again. The reason why I knocked off one star is because the inside is so small. The food may be great, but the management and staff training at this location seriously need improvement. Just look at how my to-go order was packed, especially the ice cream. They put it in a PAPER BOX and a cup with an OPEN LID. Seriously? What kind of packaging is that for ice cream? How is ice cream supposed to survive a takeout order without melting, spilling, or making a complete mess? This isn't a complicated problem. A simple plastic cup with a secure lid would have made much more sense. I honestly cannot understand how anyone thought this was acceptable to-go packaging. It shows a complete lack of common sense and attention to the customer experience. I really wanted to support this location, but the way my order was handled was unacceptable and extremely disappointing. Great food means very little if the basic service and packaging are this careless. Management needs to do better and train their staff properly. read more

First time trying Naya, and we ordered the Mango Tango and a Thai tea. We absolutely loved the Mango Tango! The sticky rice had the perfect amount of sweetness, and the mango was fresh, juicy, and sweet. The Thai tea was also good, although it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed and there was a wait, but luckily tables cleared quickly and we were seated within 5 minutes. Overall, we would definitely come back to try other items on the menu. Our only wish is that the Mango Tango came with a larger portion of sticky rice. I love that they have 2 scoops of ice cream that pairs so well with the custard. They didn't mention they were out of them when we ordered and it wasn't until we noticed it was missing and brought it up that they said they're out of it. Even though the store is small, it is very aesthetic on the inside. The service was quick (but you can tell that the server is a little bit frazzled -- I chalk it up to the store being really busy). Every table is usually taken because they are just *that* popular. The mango tango was a 9/10. The mango was very sweet. The mango sauce did not taste very artificial to me. The sticky rice was a nice surprise because it was WAY better than I had expected. The shave ice itself was very creamy and super soft. The only thing is that I wish that the serving for the mango sauce was larger. If you go during the soft opening, they give you a receipt, make sure you hold onto it because at the bottom of the bill is a 20% off discount for your NEXT visit. read more
