    The Perfect Martini. Frosty.
    Christina P.

What a fantastic place to have some of the most innovative and delicious food you've ever tasted! I started with the savory eclairs which were quite frankly insanely delicious. Elderflower, asparagus and goat Brie on a delicious bread made for some of the most tasty bites of the night. Then I had the duck terrine, which was aromatic and delicious. Finally, I had the two featured desserts. They were also fantastic and I had a great view of them being made from my seat at the bar. The boldly named Perfect Martini also did not disappoint. I was surprised by how high quality and beautifully done the food was. I would consider this place on par with some of the two Star Michelin restaurants I have visited. Service was also warm, prompt and lovely. I wish I was staying longer so I could visit again! This is a must-visit stop if you are in Vancouver and you love food.

Booked a Gathering ROOTS Under a Cold Moon tasting experience to celebrate my best friend's birthday, and it was a good, solid dining experience. Some of the reviews have mentioned that the dishes, albeit good, lack consistency throughout the menu, with some technical errors peeking through. For our appetizers, we ordered the Buratta and the Acadian Sturgeon Caviar. The buratta with the amagaki persimmon was absolutely exceptional and we added a dollop of the caviar, which really made all the flavours pop. The creme fraiche beignet, which were served alongside the caviar, were buttery and also delicious. Overall, both of the appies were 5/5 stars. As for the tasting course, Burdock root with uni was a perfect starter 5/5, but the Salsify root made me a little disappointed-- the rice was just a smidge under al dente (both of these dishes we had with the caviar-- I highly recommend getting caviar for these, because it really ties in the flavours) 3/5. The Sunchoke and the Rutabaga were solid dishes, Rutabaga's duck breast was cooked to perfection and the duck leg confit hash was splendid 5/5; Sunchoke gets a 5/5 for being an amazing mushroom dish. The desert was Parsnip root, a play on Mont Blanc, which is a classic French dessert, and tbh it was wayyy better than a Mont Blanc. Really unique flavour, not too sweet, simply a 5/5. The ambience inside is cozy and rustic, with warm, glowing lights welcoming you as soon as you walk in... It's a perfect setting for a cold, rainy winter. Service was laid back, but very knowledgeable. Staff were friendly and kind and honestly such a major part of the dining experience. I want to celebrate special occasions here JUST because of the amazing service.

Overall, it was a great experience. The food was delicious. The place was a little small, but there was enough seating space to get some privacy, which we greatly appreciated. The service was excellent. The staff were very knowledgeable and explained each course in detail. Hands down, the parsnip root is one of the most unique and best desserts I have ever had. The sunchoke was also exquisite. The only criticism that comes to my mind would be that it's a bit pricey for the experience served, especially when compared to other local Michelin-starred restaurants . For being such a vegetable-forward menu, the price just seemed a tad high. But definitely, if you are in town, check this place out. They offer a unique take on food which leaves you craving more!

Michelin Star so we wanted to check it out while visiting. Was underwhelmed. We've been to quite a few Michelin restaurants and nothing was exceptional, but the dessert. Wine pairing was solid!

A little pricey but love the progression of the meal and use of seasonal products. The fish mousse was so nostalgic for me and packed with flavour though the fried chicken wasn't as light and airy as I prefer. I love the storytelling and use of the main ingredient from bitter note to sweet. The fish dish was so buttery and delicious. Some dishes didn't wow me but I applaud the overall service and thought out to create the course menu. Ambience was nice for a date night and while it was busy, it felt intimate.

I've been quite skeptical of Michelin in Canada but this has been one of my more memorable experiences. On all fronts, Burdock outshone and delivered an impeccable dining experience. The most outstanding thing for me was the service. Our server was so knowledgeable about the food and the wine pairing. Given it was my birthday, we did splurge on an extra glass of bubbly and the premium pairing - the selections paired each course perfectly. Couldn't have one without the other. For a tasting menu, I was surprisingly full! Each course made sense, though I found it difficult to appreciate due to being so full. However, it was a pleasure to be seated at the kitchen to be able to observe the small team churn out dish after dish. Burdock provides an awesome experience in a beautifully curated setting. Intimate and not too noisy - perfect for a date night or special occasion! Definitely try out their fried chicken as an add on!

Wow! What a fantastic experience we had for my husband's birthday! There were several other birthdays being celebrated that night in the restaurant. I really appreciated how affordable they made their tasting menu, especially for a Michelin-starred restaurant. Zero pretentious attitude, just nothing but gracious hospitality, fantastic food, and a great wine pairing selection that leans heavily feminist! I was too engrossed in the food and company, so only too a few photos. The stand outs for me were the cucumber salad, the crazy delicious dip they served with the buttermilk fried chicken, and the ridiculously delicious savoury profiteroles filled with cured steelhead. Wow!

Food was amazing!! Every single dish they brought out was tasty with the exception of the corn risotto. It had a bit of an odd kick to it and I didn't like it. However the servers rectified immediately and made another without the spice which I thought was a bit better. Service was impeccable. I love how two servers brought out the dishes at the same time so we didn't have to wait for everyone at our table to get the dish. Initially from the outside it doesn't look like the place is anything special but inside was quite cozy. I loved how the dishes came in unique plates. Highly recommend.

Walking along Main Street, found a small lit sign "Burdock & Co". Not sure what to make of it. On the quiet side of things. Reminds me of "Nighthawks" a 1942 painting by Edward Hopper. Opening its door, the sweet voice of Sade singing "Smooth Operator" filled my ears. The place is a cozy space covered with reclaimed wood paneling on the walls and ceiling, giving a warm welcoming familiar feel. Unique and individual lighting adorned the space, reminiscent of vintage furniture stores that were prominent along Main Street decades ago. Our server Jesse, at first shy, then reveal to be a very knowledgeable and thoughtful food enthusiast. She described the menu items with precision and detail. Seems she has had toast master training, answering an inquisitive individual like myself without any filler words. Her work for us was impeccable. We have ordered a "tasting menu" of 5 courses with this time of "citric" theme. 1. Lisbon Lemon stracchiatella cheese, Lisbon lemon & Foxglove Farm ginger ice, hosui pear & endives 2. Bergamot rosemary smoked Sieglinde potato, black garlic, potato skin cream, shaved bergamot 3. Sweet Lime Akami tuna, pork hock & leek, rose hip & sweet lime chili paste, shiitake glaze 4. Rangpur Lime lamb collar with koji cured crispy belly, fermented sunchoke, charred grain risotto, Rangpur lime & mountain huckleberry 5. Meyer Lemon parfait, malted milk chocolate cremeux, salted biscuit & malt caramel. ---------------- Started with sourdough and rutabaga appetizers. The dishes after followed each other like a crescendo that started with a small beat. Each dish was more lingering than the former. My thoughts were running away to the idea of rise of the proletariat. Vegetables that were once mere garnishes to the mains are celebrated here. For the first time I noticed their aroma, their musical notes, their essence. They are the stars of their own. And rightfully so. Coming from Landscape design background, Head Chef Andrea Carlson favours local sourcing and essence over sensational. Many who don't understand the subtleties of things, will not appreciate the sheer discipline and art that is in each dish. Every element cooked to perfection, every sauce cooked either to complement or contrast to bring out the ingredients' true essence. Harmony and chaos in a symphony of culinary perfection. Not to mention deliciousness. The meal is like encountering a masterful seductress who leaves you with an aftertaste like no other than a bittersweet romance. Sweet in reminiscence but bitter in parting. .........Until we meet again.

We have been wanting to try Burdock and was able to get a reservation on the day of. In June and July, they have the "flower gazing under the berry moon" menu, which consists of six courses including one dessert. It is priced at $150 per person. The ambience in the restaurant is quite casual and intimate. The service throughout the dinner was 10/10. For the food, the only down side is probably the portion size. Almost every dish was bite size (or couple bites), and there wasn't a lot of protein in most of the dishes. However, as you can see from the photos - the presentation of each dish was all on point, you can see the amount of effort put into it. Our favourite dish was the Magnolia (spot shrimp with radish/kimchi) and the one that fell short was the Elderflower (halibut mousse with cabbage). Overall a great experience, we may come back again when the menu changes.

What can I say? When people come to a Michelin star restaurant, they definitely have certain expectations. Although it's not everyone's cup of tea, but to me, Burdock was not a disappointment. We were contacted the day before our booking to check in with any food allergies, which is rare from my past booking experience. We can tell that they took the extra step to get to know their customers before preparing the meal. They sat all their dine out customers beside the bar table, which is right on the outside of the kitchen. I loved the scene as I can see how the food are prepared and hot the kitchen staff are functioned. All the staff are trained to have a good kitchen etiquette, they talk among each other with short sentences, to inform each other what they are doing etc, which is very impressive. All the ingredients are weighted and cut precisely. Their plates are pre-heated in the oven, so when the food is ready, they will be placed on a warm plate to prevent being cold. Sometimes the change of the temperature could also change the taste of the food. I like how they taking every detail into consideration to enhance people's dining experience. The portion of the dine out menu is very generous and prepared with all local farm grown ingredients. The owner has a 100 miles rule which means all the food ingredients should be coming within 100 miles. Burdock also owns their own grocery store in Chinatown, and they have their own farm. I like to support local community and buy from local farms whenever I can. This farm to table concept definitely make me very happy. All the dishes has this earthy, and fresh taste. They incorporate the ingredients together to maximize the flavor. For example, the steelhead was prepared with dill cream sauce which helped to bring out the freshness of the fish, rather than minimizing the fishiness. They also used a lot of Asian ingredients and cooking techniques on their other dishes such as the pork pate, fried chicken, and the dessert (diplomat with the glutinous ball). I enjoyed every bite of it. Their servers are very knowledgeable. For each course we were given a brand new set of cutlery and plate. There was always an introduction before each course. I saw their head chef standing by the end of the kitchen for quality control. If the dish is sent out in the wrong order, the server will be called to kitchen for a short brief. I'm very impressed with this dining experience. Each of them were working very hard. Even during dine out period, they still try to maintain their normal high standards which can be very hard when mass production is required. I am very proud that Vancouver has a rustic appealing restaurant like this, and will be back again!

Finally had the chance to try this famed Michelin star restaurant. DOVF was the perfect opportunity for me to get a glimpse of the artistry behind this establishment. Place is small with only a few proper tables. Otherwise, You sit at the tiny bar with barely enough room, and it fronts the kitchen and plating as well. What they dont tell you at booking, is that if you are doing DineOut, you automatically get bar seating, and cannot request to be transferred to a table as its only for the regular menu. A bit discriminating in my opinion with prior warning, and after asking for pre-payment. Unto the food...for artistic presentation and cooking techniques, they surely live up to the michelin standards. They take ordinary ingredients and turn it into something extraordinary. The complexity of their sauces and fusions, showcases the talent behind the kitchen. For appys...the pork pate was nothing to rave abt. It tastes like any average pate. No wow factor. The other appy was a bit sweet, and could pass for dessert. For mains, the pork shoulder...the execution was a bit lacking. The pork shoulder we had was a bit chewy, despite being cooked sousvide. ( the have a sousvide machine in the kitchen) . The bokchoy that came With it was poached with rice wine and gave it a good bitter/sweet contrast. The fish was great. Excellently prepared and cooked just right. The sauce emulsion that accompanied It was superb. A glimpse into molecular gastronomy. The desserts were probably the best dishes. The mt Seymour was decadent layers of goodness all assembled nicely and the parsnip puree with glutinous rice balls was an excellent example of fusiong east and west. Now this is another establishment that you come hungry and leave hungrier. But then again, every michelin restaurant is mostly like this. The one thing that i found really appalling was the fact that the cook assigned with assembling the pate's and desserts kept in using his barehands to handle and slice the food. Wouldve been ok if he was touching only that. Since i was seated at the counter...i saw him touch his hair, clothing, put his hands inside his pockets and suspenders, open and close cabinets, hold a wash cloth, use the same wash cloth to wipe counters, chopping boards, and surrounding countertop areas....and handle food all at the same time. Another line cook was using her phone while cooking, and had no issues putting her phone on flat on the food prep areas. I highly doubt they get a michelin if the judges saw this part. Lastly, service was impeccable. Servers very knowledgeable of the menu and very attentive to your needs. Since i didnt get sick after, i may give them Another try next time as a regular diner and not during dineout. I may get a better experience and proper seating. I do believe the kitchen got overwhelmed doing 2 sets of menus so they kinda fell apart and rushed Things and got a bit careless. Cheers! Happy eating!

Published on Main - Vancouver, BC…read more We chose Published on Main for dinner because it's one of the participating restaurants where we could use our Amex Platinum dining credit. Since it's also a Michelin-starred restaurant, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally experience it. Our dinner lineup was: Aebleskiver Milk Bun Belgian Endive Dungeness Crab GBP Gnocchi BBQ Beef Striploin Most of the dishes are designed for sharing, with the exception of the Aebleskiver, which is served individually, so we ordered two. It's a round, savoury dough with herbs and pine nuts, topped with Kaluga caviar. The dough itself was delicious, but the caviar wasn't quite to my taste. I prefer caviar with that distinct salty, creamy and buttery flavour, while I found this particular Kaluga very mild and almost tasteless. Everything else, however, was fabulous. Dungeness Crab - My absolute favourite of the evening. Beautifully executed and packed with flavour. Belgian Endive - A very close second and probably one of the biggest surprises of the meal. Who knew endive could be this memorable? BBQ Beef Striploin - The Michelin-worthy dish for me. Beautifully prepared and a great way to finish our savoury courses. The Milk Bun and GBP Gnocchi were also excellent and rounded out the meal nicely. The atmosphere is polished but not overly formal--I'd describe it as business casual. Most guests were dressed accordingly; you could probably count on one hand the number who weren't. Despite the restaurant being busy, I didn't find it loud at all. We could comfortably chat and hear each other throughout dinner, which I really appreciated. Service was cordial, professional and knowledgeable. Each dish was presented with a clear description, adding to the overall dining experience without making it feel overly ceremonial. Overall, Published on Main lived up to its reputation. With the exception of the caviar not being to my personal taste, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The Dungeness Crab alone is something I would happily return for. Definitely a restaurant I would recommend to friends and family--especially for a special occasion or if you're looking to put that Amex Platinum dining credit to very good use!

Portions vary depending on the item, but there are many unique foods to order. - PASTEL DE GALLINETA, this rockfish terrine had a frittata-like texture. the chilli threads were a bit of a hassle and didn't seem to add much, but it was a fun bite to share. 3.8/5 - TORRE DEL ARRANTZALES. an absolute flavour bomb, will be recreating this. the tuna was a bit tough and rough since it had been preserved, but the overall experience of mixing it up to eat was enjoyable! for the level of sauciness this dish delivers I think it would be best served with a vessel to dip. 4.2/5 - CARRILLERAS DE RES. had really high hopes but unfortunately was not a fan of this beef cheek dish. for a slow cooked cut, it wasn't tender; some parts appeared either very lean or dried out. jus wasn't very flavourful nor was there much at all. sweet potato puree had an herbal aftertaste that neither of us liked. the concept was captivating but the execution was off for us. - PATATAS BRAVAS. each bite was its own experience, some bites light, some crispy, and others were soft yet rich in textude. generous portions, we loved this dish while dining and though it was even tastier having as leftovers the next day. 5/5 don't think I've had potatoes this good. - VALENCIANA PAELLA. perfectly al dente rice that delivered addictive bites. we felt this came off a bit too strong on the rosemary, but we were feeling 90% stuffed by the time we had it. interestingly, we loved the flavours of the paella after reheating it the day after, no longer bothered by the herbaceousness. it all melded together super well. 4.6/5

Everything is cooked to perfection with great flavor, and the tare (teriyaki) sauce is really solid. Some of my favorites are the garlic stems wrapped in pork, the chicken thigh with leeks, and the chicken wings. Not sure if it's just me, but everything tastes even better with a beer after each bite. If you want something more filling, the carbonara udon was great too. It's also really cool to sit near the grill and watch the chefs cook, everything comes out surprisingly fast, so there's not much waiting.

For the Temaki promotion, there was only one staff member assembling hand rolls, while the yakitori grill station operated separately. Even so, the execution at the temaki station felt inconsistent and rushed. The nori was not properly toasted and turned soggy quickly, losing the intended texture almost immediately. At a premium dine-in price, that crisp contrast is a core part of the experience. The rice was uneven and overly moist, which affected overall texture and balance. Even when ordering one round at a time, it was difficult to distinguish between the chicken and pork components. The wagyu and garlic beef were the only real standouts and were well executed. The space itself is quite tight, with limited room for coats or bags, making seating feel cramped and not well thought through for dine-in comfort. The warabi mochi dessert portion was also very small. On the service side: The Yelp reservation system was smooth and convenient. Staff were polite in person. However, when I called later to ask about a personal item potentially left at the booth, there was clear difficulty understanding the request, suggesting a communication gap. Overall, while some items were executed well, the consistency and attention to detail did not meet expectations. At this price point--even with the HH menu--execution needs to be significantly more precise for the experience to feel justified.

It's located literally directly above Sip, if that helps. For food, our host had an appetizer platter made. It was mediocre at best. The vegetables were all soggy. Somewhat disappointing. I had the bartender mix up a "strong drink". It was a shot of JD mixed with something out a green mystery bottle. Hopefully it wasn't antifreeze. Came to $4.50. Not bad! My biggest problem (though this is not the only place guilty of this) is that the music is too freaking loud. I couldn't hear anything, and had to shout in people's ears. Yes there's a DJ there (and he's quite good, hello Snoop Dogg, blast from the past), but seriously, please turn it down a notch. The other thing I didn't like is that the interior is quite plain. Yes, it's supposed to look like a refinery, but putting 500 glass jars filled with random food items on the shelves on the wall doesn't cut it. It makes the place look like a 1800s supermarket instead. This place needs some help in the branding department. Overall the experience was okay, but it was nothing memorable at all. There are better places in town.

I always order beef tongue, Japanese fried chicken, and shrimp mayonnaise. These are my must-orders and their signature dishes. The beef tongue is actually quite simple; it's delicious just from being lightly heated. The hot stone slab is served piping hot, perfect for searing meat. Be quick, or it will cool down. The Japanese fried chicken is tender, juicy, and incredibly fragrant. The seasoning is just right. The shrimp mayonnaise is plentiful and a perfect match for beer. The two seasonal or specialty dishes of the day weren't as good, and I wouldn't order them again. My advice is to order their most popular and classic dishes, and definitely make a reservation in advance if you want to come (especially on weekends, as the wait can be up to an hour).
