The kids took me out shooting and I reciprocated with taking them to Burger Basket for lunch. Never been there but drive by it enough. We sat inside and the old days decor was cool. The burgers were delivered fairly quick and measured up nicely. Good beef, decent trimmings. The bacon was a bit thin. My tots were crispy and good. The large portions of curly fries were undercooked, but cooked enough to eat. Prices were a tad less than average. Overall, for a stand alone burger joint, I approve. I saw this place on my way home and hoped it would be one of those greasy burger places that are delicious. This wasn't the case. The menu had so many options I was a bit overwhelmed. Ended up ordering a philly cheesesteak with fries and fish and chips. Granted, I shouldn't have gone to a place with drive-through seafood ‍ but I was curious. Philly cheesesteak had barely any cheese or mushrooms and the meat was ground up and not thinly sliced. Fries cold and unseasoned but they did provide salt packets? Fish and chips were okay. So I've eaten here a handful of times, mostly when I have actual cash (they do not take credit cards) and happen to be on the right side of the street to get in. I have only ordered the bacon-cheeseburger and fries, the price of the meal is a little more expensive than average take-out fare. The burgers are alright. Handpressed, lopsided, greasy as all get out, but pretty tasty. The fries are a little lacking. They remind me of the fries at Red Robin, but not as cooked. The drive through can be a real hassle. Because they "hand make" every burger, it tends to take about three times as long as a normal drive though, so be prepared. I have never been inside, but every time I get in line there seems to be at least a handful of cars in the parking lot and customers seated at the windows. I'll still probably wind up here once or twice a year, when the craving for a really greasy burger hits me. read more

We have been here many times for a "home made burger". It has always been fine. My husband loves this place. We stopped in for some burgers to go. I walked over to the gas station for some reasonably priced drinks. I came back after 10 minutes (don't ask) and he was waiting. The people in front of us were still waiting, too. I sat down and the order for the people before us came out. Great, I thought, we are next. The previous customers came back in and said that their order was not complete. The customer dug through the bag, then the cashier dug through the bag. "Oh, this is yours!" Ummm, ok, great. Decided to ignore the negative reviews and try this place on a coworkers recommendation. We got two burger meals and it cost over $30. My husband asked for no thousand island dressing with mustard and ketchup instead. When we got our food his burger was drenched in mayo for some reason? My small burger was fine but the onions on it were sliced so thick that really all I could taste was onion. The fries were fresh but they were totally unsalted and really bland. The lack of professionalism and care for the customer was prominent in my visit to this establishment. I feel like the staff purposely messed up my order due to the fact that once we checked the order in the vehicle before driving away we realized it was everything we didn't want. We walked back in and the lady simply took the bags ran to the back kitchen and immediately handed us the proper bags and didn't apologize or say anything about the fact that she had totally given us everything we didn't order. I had been here a few years ago. They didn't use to let you use your debit card (which didn't bother me because I always have cash) Just as an update you can use your cards now. My last 2 experiences here were horrible and the food wasn't even that great..... I just finished a small burger with bacon and cheese and it was actually a very good burger. Also all the people that are working here are very friendly. I can only assume that either new ownership or management has happened here. How about "What would you like on that" instead of this madness? I'm thirty two years old, I'm pretty set in my ways on burger toppings at this juncture of my life. I pulled out my credit card and was told they don't take credit but I could use the ATM machine in the corner of the place. I told the lady I wasn't going to pay an ATM fee for a $7 lunch. She said she'd take $2 off my order. I told her "No thanks" and left. What is with these weird business owners that don't want to take credit. They don't want to pay a 35 cent fee per transaction but they'll take $2 off my order? They'll risk alienating younger consumers who live on plastic so they can, do what, exactly? Save $60 a month? Insanity. Any good business owner takes plastic because we young'ns don't carry paper. I didn't eat the food. I didn't buy anything. What was once a favorite is no longer. Burger Basket should not be allowed to serve food until they fix some MAJOR issues. I arrived to an empty dining room and two employees eating and playing on their phones at a table. They looked like guests until one got up and walked behind the cash register with her attention directed at her phone. It wasn't until after she arrived at the cash register was the phone put away. She took our order, payment and began preparing our shake and sodas without washing her hands. Employee #2 came from the dinning from straight into preparing our food without washing her hands. I witnessed employee one say she was going to bano which is bathroom in Spanish. She did in fact go to the rest room. A moment later a group of customers came in and she followed without first rewashing her hands. She handed out food in the drive through, took orders from guests at the counter and handled cash. Stopped in here on my way back to Portland. They have a sign for drive-thru so I tried that... I stopped at a window that seemed to be the right spot and began looking over the menu. After about 5 minutes of waiting I peered into the window and gave a little wave to the girl at the counter. She kind of just glared back and ignored me. This is an odd place. It is silent with a unfriendly vibe. The owner stocks the place, walking back and forth, in and out of the kitchen and circling the dining room. He stops occasionally to drink from a bottle of water and lean against the counter and survey his surroundings. The signage is overwhelming, nearly every burger, size and topping, is listed across a wall resembling hieroglyphs. The restaurant itself is really a time capsule. Not of the cool and retro, but the cheap and stingy. The food is average at best and again the cheap, penny pinching ownership rears its ugly head. The single positive taken from this establishment would be its cleanliness.. So if you are looking for an awkward experience with an underwhelming fair, this may be the perfect place for you. I took the fries home, added some cajun spice and salt and broiled them, but they were still lousy. The burger was just OK - sloppily put together with less than quality ingredients. 3/12/21 Out for an impromptu mini road trip I found myself in Salem. On the road I need two things: a fun playlist and a milkshake! Saw DQ, was looking to turn around when I noticed Burger Basket. I don't eat much fast food, but prefer a throwback local to a chain. An older lady, obviously Hispanic (I only mention that because she's been slammed in other reviews) was working the drive-up. She could not have been more pleasant or friendly. I got a cheeseburger, fries and a black raspberry milkshake. Burger and fries were hot, fresh and tasty, and I noticed and appreciated that the fries were not salted. The milkshake was FAB, but when I heard that unmistakable airy slurp at the end (you know the sound!) I wished I'd ordered the bigger one. There are a number of surprisingly, to me, unflattering comments here, but I'm glad I popped in. I'm an hour away in PDX, but will definitely visit again the next time I'm in the area. I have eaten here many times over the years, as I work nearby. It seems every time I come here it gets a little more... lacking. The portions have dwindled from a huge burger and a pile of tater tots to a pathetic, charred, yet greasy thin pressed hockey puck and roughly 15 tots. The sauce is still good, and overall the burgers taste alright for what they are. What sealed the deal for me tonight was the ketchup. When you leave ketchup on the table from open to close everyday, and dump more into the bottles each night, on top of the old, you're basically serving rotting ketchup. The ketchup was fermented. I discovered this after my son squirted it all over his burger. While his 8-year-old tastebuds didn't detect the soured taste, I truly hope he doesn't end up sick. Food has always been great for me. Today I walked in, completely empty, no customers-perfect! I see the owner talking to an employee-they are arguing about something. They both look at me and walk in back to never come back. The cook sees me and smiles politely and after 5 minutes tries to get the employee and owners attention to take my order. Car pulls up to the drive through and the cook greets them and tells them it will be a minute. She tries to get the owners attention again with no success. I walk after 8 minutes of waiting.
